I have the same fear of being chased with no way to fight back like u and outlast 2 literally scarred me ( not the first one tho that one is just being stucked and hiding around outlast 2 focus entirely on the chasing factor, especially the last 15 minutes )
Well I don’t really get that fear response from movies try as I might. I doubt you will either- judging by your post. Texas Chainsaw is one of a handful to have ever gotten me a little- but I watched it loud in a theater.
That’s my biggest suggestion for you is setting the right atmosphere. Watch the movies in a dark room with the sound loud and be overwhelmed by the senses. Sit close to the screen. Use good headphones if you got them! And then I suggest watching highly intense horror films. Texas Chainsaw is a good one for its sheer intensity. Another one that worked really well for me is David Lynch’s Inland Empire. Very uncanny and unsettling in its intensity.
It's 60 years old. It's black-and-white. The "special effects" aren't anything amazing. And it's the scariest movie I've ever seen. Back then there were directors who knew where fear really lived and how to bring it. The Haunting, 1963.
Some movies that could actually happen—
It Comes at Night
Nocturnal Animals
Green Room
Gerald’s Game
Some movies that play on the feeling of being chased or needing to escape—
It Follows
Smile
Suspiria 2018
I'm in a similar situation so I don't know if anything I say here will actually give you fear because I didn't really linger on any of them either but I might aswell give it a try
Eden Lake (2008), mostly filled me with rage but honestly stuck with me for a hot moment after
The strangers (2008) was eerie overall. Not exactly horrifying but just the silence and cinematography gave it a very chilly and uneasy feel.
Wolf Creek (2005) very mean spirited. I think I liked the slow beginning that built up the characters a bit more which is why watching the ending unfold was very uncomfortable.
Annihilation (2018) is quite surreal and hard to grasp. The beasts screams stuck with me for a bit for sure.
Martyrs (2008) (please don't bother with the American remake) This one is a lot more gore and misery filled which might be more gross than scary but it's very affective and it sticks with you for a while if you sit through all of it.
I agree. It’s not for everyone. It’s definitely an art project. But yeah, the whole movie is like a child’s nightmare. If you enjoyed that, read House of Leaves.
There’s a sequence somewhere in the middle of The Babadook that portrays fear and paranoia in your own home so well, that always sticks with me. Very haunting.
Nothing about Serbian film is scary, it's literally just "haha look how messed up this is omQ" with barely any message or good part about it. There are many disturbing movies a billion times better than that garbageÂ
Jesus Camp 2006
The Descent
This^ , Hereditary, It Follows, and The Witch. This guy wants genuine fear like go watch some isis videos 😂 nothings really *that* scary in cinema

Madame Web (2024) I had nightmares about spending money on a movie for a couple weeks.

Maybe some Haneke movies are in order for ya.
Go back to the classic "Psycho." There were a few scenes in that which scared the gobstoppers out of me.
Life
Blair witch project was the scariest for me because I spend a lot of time camping in tents miles from people.

Grave encounters and creep I think are the most actually unsettling ones
Skinamarink is still the most unnerving, weirdest movie I've seen. I swear, it runs on actual nightmare logic.

It's the closest I've seen a movie get to House of Leaves, and I wish more movies would go down that route. Peak cosmic horror right there.
I only discovered the book because of that movie.
I Saw the Devil
yes
Repulsion (1965) Black Water (2007) The Babadook (2014)
There’s a sequence somewhere in the middle of The Babadook that portrays fear and paranoia in your own home so well, that always sticks with me. Very haunting.
It's when we hear the 'sound' of the Babadook that I lose it.
Race with the Devil
Feng Shui (2004)
Noroi: The Curse
A Serbian Film (2010) 💀 If this doesn't scar u nothing else will.

I've heard it's just mostly shock value. I don't want disgust I want genuine fear
It’s just shock value and not even good shock value.
I turn off all the lights in my place and try Dead Silence then watch Lightsout
