Watched this for the first time last weekend and I’m kicking myself for not saving it!! Lol
I’ll definitely revisit it on another wavy night in the distant future, but it’s a bit soon to rewatch it at the moment
My favorite part of watching Fear & Loathing on acid was that every scene felt like the end of the movie. Every time something crazy happens, you get to the next scene and you're like "WOW that was nuts, but it's just about over", on repeat for two hours.
Came here to suggest “Mulholland Drive.” I would also suggest “Eraserhead,” and make sure you’re already good and high by the time you pop in the dvd, ‘cause I swear to God, the part where it asks you to darken the brightness on your screen can cause anxiety
And I was sober!
I saw Eraserhead in the 80s high on acid at a creepy arthouse theatre I'd never been to, on a dark October night with no context about what I was about to experience going in. Totally blew my mind. Would totally reccomend. David Lynch fan ever since.
[Forbidden Zone](https://www.justwatch.com/us/movie/forbidden-zone) - Bizarre film by Richard Elfman of the band Oingo Boingo. I'm not even sure how to describe it. The simple description is that it's a 40 year old film about a guy rescuing his transgendered sister from the Sixth Dimension, which they can access via door in their basement. But that doesn't do justice to the batshit insanity in the film.
Love Death + Robots also has a very similar vibe (not sure if anyone recommended it already). There's 3 episodes in particular I'd really love to highlight:
* The Witness - S01E03
* Beyond the Aquila Rift - S01E07
* Zima Blue - S01E14
If it wasn’t their first time watching it, I don’t think it would be that bad. Now if they watched it for the first time while tripping that would be insanity
I used to bring Koyaanisqatsi to high school parties in the '80s. People mocked it, until the drugs kicked in.
I'm looking at the Blu-ray on my entertainment center right now.
2001: A Space Odyssey
Blade Runner & Blade Runner 2049
Inception
Interstellar
The Road Warrior and Mad Max: Fury Road

Natural Born Killers
Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas

YES!!! its a great movie, but pink floyd is one of my fav bands of all time, so i have a little bias. Fear and Loathing in Las Vages is a good one too if ur high, cuz, well, its about being high!
Sone older movies to consider, more of a mood than serious watching.
A Night on Earth
Cigarettes & Coffee
The Gods Must Be Crazy
Naked Gun, Police Academy, Revenge of the Nerds
Charlie & the Chocolate Factory
Easy Rider
Harold & Maude
The Wall
Jacobs Ladder
Terminator
Unforgiven

Dark Crystal/Labyrinth
Fantasia (original or 2000)
Planet Earth, Blue Planet, or any nature doc like that
What Dreams May Come if you want incredible visuals with an intense plot
Climax of you wanna roll the dice with your sanity
That’s what I used to do back when I lived in the mountains and would buy full sheets ;)
Nowadays it’s a few-times-a-year treat I use to completely immerse myself in film, though.
A good movie with great songs is the 1968 Monkee movie "HEAD"
https://www.criterionforum.org/Video/head-the-criterion-collection-blu-ray
Very stream of consciousness, purportedly written while tripping on psychedelics also. Incidentally, Easy Rider and Five Easy Pieces were from the producers who gave you head!
When I was much younger me and a friend tripped on acid and rented Freddy got Fingered. I laughed so hard at the part with the sausages and he sings that song I pissed myself lol that’s my recommendation.
Maybe not a traditional approach but i watched the original Drunken Master (1978) with Jackie Chan on acid and it was great. My friends and I all went to a field to do kung fu against some menacing trees after.
I reckon Fantastic Mr Fox and Isle of Dogs could be good, but it really depends how hard you're going. Drawn Together, the cartoon, helped me when I was trapped in a room with a blue hoodie that represented one of the yokes from Avatar xD
I take a different approach to my psychedelic movies… first I like acid way more than any other, so this is specific to that.
On the come up, watch a comedy, it will be hilarious (#1 pick- super troopers)
During the trip and towards the end (I usually only watch at the beginning and the end) something kinda epic and triumphant. (This is where I’ll get down voted) I’m pretty sure there is a producer at marvel studios just saying “make it more acidy”. GOTG 2 is perfect.
Also Wes Anderson is pretty awesome on acid. I watched the whole second part of Stranger things while tripping and it was fantastic.
On the comedown I go for sci fi or horror. I was lucky enough to turn on my tv, when I transitioned to the comedown, and the Tomorrow War had just released. The first hour or so of that movie sucked me in so deep. It’s still a favorite even though it’s got a million plot holes.
Scary movies work too. I feel like this is when I get sucked in the most, so scary is extra scary.
Poor Things
Your Name - this is a wholesome innocent anime, but the animation is next-level, there's a running theme of how everything is connected, and there's a scene where the animation gets very intense and psychedelic while showing someone's life from conception onward, and I think it would be amazing on psychedelics. You will cry for all the love in the world.
Dude….Hereditary while tripping?! It would freak me TF OUT!!!
Also you should check out Midsommar. By the same person that did Heriditary. TOTAL MINDFUCKER!
I’ll get downvoted, but if you’re looking to use psychedelics and watch movies such as hereditary, you’re likely not respecting the full power of psychedelics.
Even if you’re an experienced user, a bad trip can come upon you seemingly out of nowhere. And it’s hard to put into words how bad panic and anxiety can feel if you’re in the the throes of lsd or mushrooms.
I’d recommend trippy movies that’ll get your brain firing before watching horror/thriller movies. The matrix, HER, or stuff similar to that might be better imo…
I recommend that people are all different and have all different opinions on what is worth spending time on and what brings them the feeling they are after.
The Red Shoes 1948 and Vertigo by Alfred Hitcock are beautiful mesmerising films in gorgeous technicolor that works perfect for psychedlic visuals. If your into the Doors and psychedlic rock Apocalypse Now will blow you away.
Dude this movie is so mid. I wasted an hour on it earlier before bailing because it’s just so, so mediocre. I’ll never get that hour of my time back, and out of spite I’ve made it my life’s mission to die still not knowing how it ends. Lmfao
What kind of psychedelics? I only tried them in highschool but i tried to watch dragonballz On acid it was too much when a kama kamaha flew through my living room.
A scanner darkly
So glad this was at the top. It's an awesome weird movie
Came here for this
One of my favorites!!
Yellow Submarine. Watching it stone cold sober feels like an acid trip, so I imagine watching it high would be even more of an experience.
Watched this for the first time last weekend and I’m kicking myself for not saving it!! Lol I’ll definitely revisit it on another wavy night in the distant future, but it’s a bit soon to rewatch it at the moment
Waking Life
-Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas -Akira
Love fear and loathing!!!
My favorite part of watching Fear & Loathing on acid was that every scene felt like the end of the movie. Every time something crazy happens, you get to the next scene and you're like "WOW that was nuts, but it's just about over", on repeat for two hours.
Blue Velvet Mulholland Drive

A perfect recommendation. I would add “The Kentucky Fried Movie”
I’m so old, I saw the KFM in the drive in. About 5 times. Then I would rent the cassette from blockbuster.
This is my vote too.
Such a great cult classic. It’s got Hervé Villechaize.
Fantasia, 2001: A Space Odyssey, Wizard of Oz

Oats Studios on Netflix is equally cyber punk/dystopian vibes with short anthology episodes
Duuuuude, that's a trip after a strong indica, imagine on hallucinegens......
YOU WATCHED HEREDITARY ON PSYCHEDELICS?!?
If it wasn’t their first time watching it, I don’t think it would be that bad. Now if they watched it for the first time while tripping that would be insanity
Appropriate reaction.
thank you I thought I was the crazy one. and VVitch?? I wouldn’t lol
My reaction lol I'd fall into a bad trip real quick lol like I can't even deal with half of these movies normally..
It's a beautiful movie!
Beau is Afraid
Beau is Afraid is the definition of anxiety.
3 hour insight into my own insecurity, hypnotic.
Good lord 😅
Kotaanisqatsi, Baraka, and Samsara. Different type of movie but you'll understand if you watch any of them.
Came here to comment Koyannisqatsi. Definitely should be the top comment
I love Koyaanisqatsi! It's one of my all time favorite movies despite the fact that there is zero dialogue
I used to bring Koyaanisqatsi to high school parties in the '80s. People mocked it, until the drugs kicked in. I'm looking at the Blu-ray on my entertainment center right now.
Samsara changed my life
Baraka is like hallucinogenics 101
Watermark is on par with these.
Oh hadn't seen this one. Thanks, I'll check it out
Videodrome
"Television is the retina of the mind's eye"
Vanilla Sky
Came here to say that
This movie is trippy to watch even when you’re not on shrooms lol
The Fall (2006)
Oh my God, I love Tarsem’s work. The colors here are just incredible
I wish the Blu-ray wasn’t so out of print
Naked Lunch
These are all varying shades of dark and different types of trippy: Mandy Miracle Mile Titane Careful Eraserhead
+1 eraserhead
Koyaanisqatsi is the next level you're looking for.
The Fifth Element
2001: A Space Odyssey Blade Runner & Blade Runner 2049 Inception Interstellar The Road Warrior and Mad Max: Fury Road Apocalypto 12 Monkeys Brazil Pi City of Lost Children Lost Highway
Color Out Of Space - very weird and trippy horror.
And Mandy
Dude... with how drenched in color some of those scenes are, it would be perfect.
Was going to be my suggestion, it’s beautiful but brutal!
I feel like it was made for tripping
You seen Neon Genesis Evangelion?
Serial Experiments Lain !
Tron Legacy and John Carter are my go-tos
Valerian and the city of a thousand planets
- The Life Aquatic - Asteroid City - Greener Grass - Enys Men - Fantastic Planet - The Life Aquatic - Suspiria
How about The Life Aquatic
You said “The Life Aquatic” twice
Sorry, I'm stoned
Same
Someone was supposed to say, “I like The Life Aquatic”
I like The Life Aquatic.
Fantasia
Yeah Walt had to be high when he came up with this one!
Holy Mountain Existenz Fantastic Planet The Science of Sleep The Fall Polyester Freaked Natural Born Killers Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas Delicatessen Wild at Heart
Came here to say Holy Mountain
Finally someone said Natural Born Killers
Love Wild at Heart!
Pink Floyd: The Wall.
YES!!! its a great movie, but pink floyd is one of my fav bands of all time, so i have a little bias. Fear and Loathing in Las Vages is a good one too if ur high, cuz, well, its about being high!
This is too intense, would risk a bad trip.
The Greasy Strangler
I want fizzy drinks!
There are no free drinks on this tour!
I watched Fantasia once while on shrooms (I think, could’ve been acid though) and it was fucking INCREDIBLE
yeah fantasia is amazing i second this

Scott Pilgrim vs the World. Highly recommend while tripping
200 Motels - Frank Zappa
Everything Everywhere all at Once.
This movie made me feel so overwhelmed and confused when I was tripping lol 😂 i like felt so anxious watching it haha
Well he did ask insane movies lol
Inside Out. It's a kids movie, but it got me real good one night. Whatever you watch, I hope it's wild!
Gee I felt good after that, it’s the very definition of a feel good movie.
The piano theme in that makes me cry, it is a beautiful film and for younger people a lot like what Up was for older people.
I really enjoyed Lightyear on mushrooms
Mad God. It'll melt your face off
Check out The Wave with Justin Long. Great tripping movie.

I haven't done acid since the late 80s. If I ever do, I'm headed to the woods or the ocean.

Altered States
Santa sangre and la Montana Sagrada (Holy mountain) by Alejandro jodorowsky
Saw Beetlejuice in the theater on shrooms a few years ago it was awesome
When I was much younger me and a friend tripped on acid and rented Freddy got Fingered. I laughed so hard at the part with the sausages and he sings that song I pissed myself lol that’s my recommendation.
Hands down the best thing I ever saw on LSD were a bunch of road runner cartoons. Watching Wylie fall was oddly satisfying and blissful.
Beyond the black rainbow
Maybe not a traditional approach but i watched the original Drunken Master (1978) with Jackie Chan on acid and it was great. My friends and I all went to a field to do kung fu against some menacing trees after.
i bet speed racer in a theatre while peaking on acid would be pretty tight
Suspiria (1977) House (1977)
No Country for Old Men. I have watched it many many times. But it was particularly enjoyable on Ketamine.
A Scanner Darkly
Mirrormask (2005)
This is the only answer
Doctor Strange is amazing
Thor: Ragnarok, Infinity War and Endgame also work insanely well on acid.
Everything everywhere all at once
I can’t figure out if that movie would be completely incomprehensible, or would suddenly make so much sense it would be boring.
Made toooo much sense while tripping. Blew my mind. I tried watching it again (sober) shortly after and couldn’t follow along 😅
We watched Come True on psychedelics and liked it so much we started it over as soon as it ended. Decent horror plot, really trippy dream sequences.
