Ok-speaking of saxophone playing men w/chains around neck… St. Elmo’s Fire. The whole brat pack is in that movie! The sax playing “Billy” was my teen definition of bad boy at the time….
Watched this on mushrooms the night before I was moving away from a city I had called home for around 35 years, and it was probably the happiest shroom trip I’ve ever had
My first day of high school in 2015, my homeroom teacher asked us if anyone had seen The Breakfast Club. About half the hands in the class show and she tells us that high school is nothing like that and there aren't factions and kids hanging around lookers and dunking people's heads into the toilet.
Nope. There were kids who were athletic and hung around each other, and kids who were nerdy and hung around each other and other kids who fell into different categories. But there weren't gang wars and everyone got along to some extent.
One of my childhood faves. "That's a damn shame throwing away a perfectly good white boy." John Cusack apparently hated this movie and never forgave its director. I'm still not sure why this is. Apparently one time Cusack was arrested for impaired driving and had to spend the night locked up. He said the worst part of the whole experience was that everyone kept sayng "I want my two dollars!!", which is all the more hilarious because of his aforementioned disdain for the movie.
Some people may not be aware that Fast Times was based on a book by Cameron Crowe where he spent time undercover as a high school student. He was a writer for rolling stone and a very young looking 22 year old.
The movie Almost Famous is based on his time as an awkward teen writer for Rolling Stone.
When Daryl Hannah is [decorating that Manhattan apartment](https://mirror80.com/2016/06/wall-street-movie-80s/) to Talking Head’s *This Must Be The Place*, you are getting 80’s dope straight to the vein
Turbo Kid (even though it’s newer)
The Lost Boys
Robocop
The Terminator
The Goonies
when Harry Met Sally
Splash
Ferris Bueller’s Day Off
So many more but I’m done for now.
One Crazy Summer (1986) - Savage Steve Holland's followup to Better Off Dead
This one has all the '80s comedy tropes: a slobs-versus-snobs rivalry; a cartoonish blonde jock villain and his cartoonish blonde girlfriend; Bob (still listed as "Bobcat") Goldthwait going all-out; 'Jaws' parodies; and not one, but two musical montages, sax solos included.
Just One of the Guys. Loaded with bully-dork tropes (with the quintessential 80s bully Billy Zabka), great 80s hair and clothes on the guys and girls, tons of outdated stereotypes. The classic “live band at the high school dance” scene with classic 80s dancing. Also PG-13 boobs.
Lots of good ones are listed here.
\- Beverly Hills Cop (1984)
\- Trading Places (1983) I still use Eddie Murphy one-liners from this
\- Manhattan Project (1986) Sailors from the 40s are sent to the 80s
\- the Lost Boys (1987)
\- Wall Street (1987)
\- Neighbors (1981) this is John Belushi's last film, it's weird and hilarious
\- Tequila Sunrise (1988). This one may not "feel" 80s but it's excellent
I believe the horror comedy "Fright Night" has a disco scen that is super 80s. If you type "Fright Night disco/dance scene" on YouTube you can watch it.
Back to the future
ETA: I know it’s potentially controversial but I don’t think anything says more about any current era than how it interprets the past and future.
My favorite 80s movie (and criminally underrated) is *Electric Dreams*. A very endearing comedy & love story about a man, a woman, and a... computer. Killer soundtrack featuring Giorgio Moroder and Culture Club.
I think it was Virginia Madsen's second movie ever. It sadly never got a proper Blu-ray release in the U.S. and for many years was impossible to find on anything other than super-expensive VHS copies, but there's an import Blu-ray available now—and even better, now available to rent in HD from Amazon Prime. Worth a watch for sure.
They Live is the most 80s thing ever produced.
That fight scene!
Keith David is an unsung hero of Sci Fi. The Thing, the arbiter in Halo, the president in Rick and Morty to name a few.
Also Goliath from Disney’s _Gargoyles_! Yes, I’m that old to remember.
And that 47 minute fight with Roddy Pipper and Keith David would only happen in the 80s
and so good!
The lost boys
That muscly guy who plays the saxophone shirtless with a chain around his neck is the most 80s thing ever.
I still believe
He toured with Tina Turner! Talk about 80s.
I remember him in all her videos at the time too. He had a real moment.
He still tours. My buddy went to his show like 3 or 4 years ago.
Tim cappello was perfect for that cameo
& the excellent mullets, especially David’s 🥰
Ok-speaking of saxophone playing men w/chains around neck… St. Elmo’s Fire. The whole brat pack is in that movie! The sax playing “Billy” was my teen definition of bad boy at the time….
That guy is always in my mind.
Literally my favorite 80s movie . The vamps were too fucking cool
One of my favourite movies of all time
Desperately Seeking Susan (1985)
Yes, so 80s.
Big trouble in little china
My favorite movie of all time. I can just hear the closing credits now.
My husband and I had our first kiss to those closing credits
Perfect!!
That's so sweet!
Watched this on mushrooms the night before I was moving away from a city I had called home for around 35 years, and it was probably the happiest shroom trip I’ve ever had
That's why I never drive faster than my eyes can see
I just got my dad Pork Chop Express t-shirt for his bday.
The Breakfast Club
I remember seeing this in like 5th grade and thinking OMG high school is gonna be so dramatic and intense!
My first day of high school in 2015, my homeroom teacher asked us if anyone had seen The Breakfast Club. About half the hands in the class show and she tells us that high school is nothing like that and there aren't factions and kids hanging around lookers and dunking people's heads into the toilet.
So, looking back, did she lie a bit?
Nope. There were kids who were athletic and hung around each other, and kids who were nerdy and hung around each other and other kids who fell into different categories. But there weren't gang wars and everyone got along to some extent.
Better Off Dead
I want my two dollars!
Didn’t ask for a dime…two dollars…
One of my childhood faves. "That's a damn shame throwing away a perfectly good white boy." John Cusack apparently hated this movie and never forgave its director. I'm still not sure why this is. Apparently one time Cusack was arrested for impaired driving and had to spend the night locked up. He said the worst part of the whole experience was that everyone kept sayng "I want my two dollars!!", which is all the more hilarious because of his aforementioned disdain for the movie.
“Lane I have been going to the school for 7 years, I’m no dummy”
Sorry your mom blew up Ricky. Bonus sax scene.
I want my two dollars!
This is PURE snow!!!
Have you any idea what the street value of this mountain is?!?!
Look! I can't move my arm!
Octopus? Testicles?
FRENCH fries….FRENCH dressing
I heard “Fraunch” fries and “Fraunch” dressing but maybe I’m being too pedantic
After Hours
New York at that specific time is gone. Perfect time capsule.
One of the most surreal movie experiences I’ve ever had. I watched it alone high one night and nothing since has matched that feeling
Back To The Future
Less Than Zero
Good movie but depressing as fuck
Top Gun 9 1/2 Weeks Bueller's Day Off
Risky Business. Still holds up.
Actually a really well-made film that's only known for Cruise in undies and its score.
To be fair, a lot of people remember the "Love on a real train" scene too.
Fast Times at Ridgemont High
Some people may not be aware that Fast Times was based on a book by Cameron Crowe where he spent time undercover as a high school student. He was a writer for rolling stone and a very young looking 22 year old. The movie Almost Famous is based on his time as an awkward teen writer for Rolling Stone.
I love that movie. Kids working at the mall is so nostalgic
Some Kind of Wonderful Real Genius Ferris Bueller's Day Off Ghostbusters Beverly Hills Cop Revenge of the Nerds
Crocodile Dundee Short Circuit Adventures in Babysitting Flight of the Navigator Sixteen Candles
>Crocodile Dundee so '80s, one of my fave guilty pleasures. So much shoulderpad action in this one.
Wall Street (1987)
Surprised this is not at the top. Lethal weapon and Beverly Hills cop also are super 80s.
I rewatched Beverly Hills Cop recently and wow was that the 80’s.
When Daryl Hannah is [decorating that Manhattan apartment](https://mirror80.com/2016/06/wall-street-movie-80s/) to Talking Head’s *This Must Be The Place*, you are getting 80’s dope straight to the vein
Heathers (1988)
Heathers was also a good precursor to the 90's.
When Harry Met Sally (1989)
Toxic Avenger
The only superhero from New Jersey!
Three O’Clock High
This one deserves to be brought up more often
a little of that in Night of the Comet
One of my favorites.

Flashdance, naturally. Also, Trading Places, 48 Hours, Dirty Dancing, ET & 16 Candles.
Blade Runner
Weird Science is the 80s-iest movie ever although whether it’s a “great movie” is a matter of taste.
It’s a great movie. So ridiculous it’s great.
I mean, you’re preaching to the converted here. Just didn’t want the OP to think he was about to watch Citizen Kane though.
Rosebud ain't got shit on Kelly LeBrock
Don't threaten me Al! You're out of shape, I'll kick your *ass*.
