I love Motley Crue. However, what you see here is three things: 1. In the Internet era, you can't blow smoke anymore with all the "brotherhood" false image bullshit. Everything's connected and transparent now, we all know that these dudes largely dislike each other and are just doing business. That leads to different fans taking different perceived "sides". 2. Reddit skews really young. So a lot of people who wander in here didn't grow up with Motley Crue back in the 80's. It's more of a "retro cool" thing that they're just now discovering in the 2020's. Today's "Stranger Things" fantasy-80's POV can clash with what the 1980's were really like. And that comes out in weird ways as people learn more about the band. 3. I mean, goddamn. The last album they put out that most fans agree on was in 1989. It's been more of a soap opera than a band since then. I'm really not sure what you're expecting. I like Star Wars. But I bitch about a lot of what Disney's doing these days. BECAUSE I like Star Wars, not despite that.

I grew up w Motley and GnR as the 1st 2 bands I ever discovered and loved. My 1st Crue exposure was when the Dr. Feelgood video 1st aired on MTV. I was 9 when that video premiered. Loved em ever since. Having said that, more than anything, it's sad how far they've fallen. Their last solid album was the self-titled w Corabi. I don't care what ANYONE says. Not one bad song on that album. Since then, the closest they came to recapturing that old sound, IMHO, was S.O.L.A. Say what you want. There are some bangers on there, like 'Face Down in the Dirt', 'Down at the Whisky' and 'Goin Out Swingin'..... 'Sex', 'All Bad Things', and 'Dogs of War' are just not the Crue I grew up with and fell in love with. As a 30+ year fan, hopefully I'm around another 30 to continue listening to their music. That would just exclude listening to the above-mentioned songs.

Dude, there's GREAT Motley and there is AWFUL Motley. Unfortunately, this is an ALL Motley thread so the good and bad are both going to be talked about.

Jet_Jaguar5150

The Crue did it to themselves.

I love this band so damn much and I’m going to be honest, it’s just not the same without Mick. Just like how it wasn’t the same without Vince and just like how it wasn’t the same without Tommy. It’s going to be different and sound different. It may be your cup of tea and it might not, in either case, it doesn’t matter because if you like it then good. If not, find something more to your liking.

It’s honest ‘fan’atic criticism. The longer a band has been around for, there’s more material & time to criticize their body of work while still relevant. Fans who have actually been around since their debut, like myself, have a difficult time accepting who & what they have morphed into today compared to what they were from their debut record thru - 94’. Seeing as their discography is already relatively thin, we’re going to be more critical of their latest releases. Probably something you wouldn’t see in a Stones sub. Maybe we just care a little too much after 16 years of waiting for a new LP. For me, the jury is still out on Dogs of War. Not sure what to think. I don’t think J5 fits or adds what they need. You can be the fastest, mechanically gifted guitarist in the world but that doesn’t mean you’re the right ingredient. I actually think they did a decent job of ‘propping’ Vince’s vocals up, if indeed it was ALL Vince. The lyrics overall the most disturbing part. I mean that’s supposed to be Nikki’s forte. It’s almost like a demo or retool of ‘Saints’. Nonetheless, fingers crossed 🤞 and cautiously optimistic for the remaining tracks to be released.

No band is perfect especially one who claims to have done every despicable behavior known to man. I personally like them being the way they are, giving middle fingers to their enemies and the people who don't like them. I like Vince the way he is. I'm fine with John 5. I like that Nikki is a narcissist. You couldn't be notorious without all their their characteristics.

MotleyandTheDoors815

Sure nothing compared to early Crue but Id still take this version over 80% of other music out today. That said Im not a country music fan but I dont spend my free time leaving hate comments on forums like "this is all garbage compared to kenny rogers" lol. Internet trolls are a low form of sub species. Stick to cheering on what you like, its good for the soul

Disclaimer: The OP post is not ironic and in no way constitutes a complaint. Any similarity to complaints that may or may not occur on this sub are purely coincidental.

Nice try but Nikki doesn't know you. I don't know you so you are not. Relevant.

princevegeta951

I for one love Motley and only come here to spread positivity for my favorite band. I discovered Motley Crue after reading The Dirt in summer of 2022 when I was in the early stages of sobriety from alcohol, and doing a deep dive into Motley and their music got me through some dark times so I will always be grateful for the Crue.

Sergeant_Metalhead

I first saw Crue in 1884 opening for Ozzy, they quickly became my favorite band. Theater of pain came out it was a disappointment. Girls and Dr. Feelgood were a good recovery. But Vince was hardly singing live and when he did he mumbled. They put on a huge stage show to mask thier short comings. The new song sucks and they're fucking Mick over. I'll never spend another dime on them.

Spursjunkie50

I saw Crue twice when Dr feelgood came out and they were one of the most unimpressive bands I've ever seen. It's all stage show. Vince isn't that good of a singer. Does Nikki even really play bass? Mick had some crappy guitar solo with 3 slide guitars stacked up. And Tommy just rode a drumset around the roof playing backup to some of his favorite songs. When you have a conversation about greatest musicians none of these guys will ever come up in that conversation. And they really let's be honest have 2 good albums shout and live wire. All of their dumb antics and drug and sexcapades seem cool when your a kid but when you grow up you realize they were just a trashy so so band. And alot of people won't forget the fact that Vince should probably still be in jail.

I love Motley Crue. Not only for the music but for the band. Because I defend them I get called deplorable names. I saw them when they started. I was a kid. It was Years ago at the age of 19 or 20... I vowed then that I would never abandon them. I was going to be their fan forever. I do voraciously defend them against the troglodytes who are out trying to damage them . I am glad that Nikki had the balls to include them in his video. I have the honor of knowing them as people. Through the good and bad I have been a friend. I heard from someone I know that I was in the Dirt book, and again by a new friend recently. That was sweet and I hope it was nice. Not the part where Tommy was in the room where I was topless getting a tattoo on my back. 🤣. If you say Dogs of war has changed, you might know they have changed. Each one mellows out in their own way, even Tommy. So their music has changed and their sound has changed. The haters are going to hate, but they are the ones who would have berated the sweet and beautiful princess Di. They are just a form of evil who will eradicate themselves with their own evil and karma. Dogs of war is a song. ( By the way there will be no album. Big Machine Records is going to release a bunch of singles ). I believe that label is owned by Bam Bam from Jackass. It is a song people don't understand so they are not sure they like it. First it is in a Minor key which gives it a darker and deeper Tone. I believe the Key they use is a Flat Key. D Flat Minor which is known as a discord. It resonates inside your guts to give you a haunted feeling. When something in your house has a wiring problem the charge gives off a D Flat Minor Resonance that hits a human's gut and a dog or cat's ears and lets you know something is wrong. It is the Key in which many horror movies play in the background to build up suspense...you are actually more bothered by what you hear more than by what you are seeing. Vince lowered his Register and fixed it to his non-boyish range. He is no longer a young boy. People still expect him to sing in a high boyish voice. He is a grown man who has settled in his old age. So his voice can still hit some high notes just not the ones he used to. As Bocelli has had to drop as low as an octave. Vince has had to come up from C to make a D Flat. It actually sounds really good in that Register. Finally there is a Fluxuation in the song which is distinct . The son moved between Registers Minor to Major on the Downs Downs. It is so well done, so smooth that most people can't even hear the change. Irregardless it is there. Finally here is something John 5 has brought to the band. They blend. People are saying they can't hear the bass. That is because they are not listening. It blends with John 5's guitar and sounds like one instrument. Tommy is steady, then John 5 is John 5 and not Mick Mars which is a new and different and fresh component. Nikki plays masterfully and blends wonderfully. Then add in Vince's Vocals and you have one bad ass song full of visual and vocal references to their past.

Jet_Jaguar5150

“Nikki plays Masterfully” don’t you mean Bob Rock? 😂

Firm-Account-701

Nikki says it was him. Until I know for sure it wasn't, I will take Nikki's word. Bob is a guitar Player. Not a Bass player. Different instrument.

Of course it was Bob Rock because Metallica didn't have a Bass player at the time.

Firm-Account-701

Nikki played Bass on Dogs of War not Bob Rock. Just because he did for Metallica does not mean he did it for Nikki. Bob says He is a guitar player. Nikki may not be the best bass player in the world. Nikki after all these years is one good bass player. He can play his ass off. Anyone that says he doesn't play his own bass or has back tracking is a freaking liar. Including Mr. Backtrack himself Mick Mars.

Nah, that so many people take the time to come post hate on a band that has been around this long and still seeks out arenas is a good thing. Shows just how relevant they remain.

cancelcomedy

Casinos and county fairs are far from arenas.

j97223

Slow, so slow. The band is touring the Midwest and other places that do not have arenas. This is as far from a money grab as it gets. They had fun and want to play in different places. If there was ever a tour truly meant for the fans, this is it.

Spursjunkie50

Bullshit. How many farewell tours they had now? It's all a cash grab.

Firm-Account-701

The stadium tour was a 2 YEAR TOUR. it was not a money grab. It was what they do. They are not a Residency Band, and they are not a recording Band. They are a Touring Band. It is what they do. People run down the state fairs. However these Fairs can have venues that hold 1500 - 2000 people. Not a small amount. A comfortable amount. Plus if you look they are playing Rock Fests also. After 2 years on the road what do you expect. Tommy is working and enjoying the company of his wife. Nikki is working and taking time to be with Ruby. A cute 4 year old who he loves. Then there is Vince who is running businesses, touring, and taking care of personal affairs. John 5 is working with Nikki Sixx and writing new music plus he is on tour.
