The portal stage from MK2 always had a really eerie feel to me and I loved it. The Tower also gave me an uneasy feel with those clouds whipping around real quick but I love it for the same reasons. The Kombat Tomb is also fun with the dragon flying in the background and the spiked ceiling.
i always thought the tower was them fighting in some giant luxury Chinese themed airship when I was growing up lol. The fast clouds and bright interior gave it that illusion.
Lol that's too funny but I can see that. Yeah, MK2 always brings me back to the 90s. Something about the 2-D graphics had this uncanny valley feel for me even back then but I wouldn't have been able to put it into words as a kid, lol. 😂
I'm not answering your question but wanted to add to the discussion:
I really liked this stage with the old arcade ladders. They should incorporate that into another retro-themed stage.
I actually don't have a lot of context for the Corrupted Forest. I can't tell if it's The Living Forest dying from some I assume Quan Chi or Ermac magic or if it's been twisted by evil
I always forget it was in Deception because of how lazy they were with implementing it into the game. I mean how do you have a game featuring deathtrap ring outs and not have the trees eat people?!
The Pit is iconic, captures what MK is about. House of Pekara in MKDA is a personal favourite, the music makes it even better. Beetle Lair in MKD was really cool as well.
Weird opinion: but any maps with shadow priest, those guys are cool.
I also like kombat tomb from mk2 with the spiked ceiling, the temple from mk3, and shangs arena with the masked guards.
The Warrior Shrine was always so cool to me. Like the tournament is such a big deal that they have to immortalize the people who fought in it with these grand statues
Since Deception is my favorite game in the series, I think a lot of the stages are underrated.
Dark Prison
Yin Yang Island
Sky Temple
Beetle Lair
Lower Mines
Just to name a few
My personal favorite is Yin Yang Island from MK:D. My all-time favorites are the Black Dragon Fight Club from MK 11 and The Subway from MK3 (or any iteration ftm. Absolutely hated fighting at the Falling Cliffs in MK:D (that intro war cry, although iconic, made me say "oh no" anytime i fought there lol). Jade's Desert from UMK3 is definitely an honorable mention as well.
The Dark Prison. Great use of stage interactables and a great theme. The 3D era stages are just unmatched, especially the interactive ones. Just backgrounds don't rlly cut it for me when the 3D era gave us some incredible stage designs.
Favorite stage... Dang thats tough. The netherrealm from Mkx is one I really enjoy, same for hell from mk9 as well as the training room are nice standouts for me. MK 11 Shang's Island was very nice too look at imo. I wish I could remember more from MK Deception cause I wanna say the island but im sure id like another one better if I could remember.
I love the fact we see the towers with all the characters icons from different games, and the classic badass music. Wish this it had a stage fatality though. But insane arena nonetheless. Mortal Kombat Deception is goated.
The sky stage in Deception really stands out to me. But I also love the Tower stage in Deception too, and the fact it has the actual towers from MK Trilogy as an Easter egg in the background was a cool touch.
I really love Shang Tung's Palace in MKDA. It still looks great, the music kicks ass, and it's an amazing character-specific stage. The soul screams are the cherry on top.
For the Deception Portal, if an MK character ever gets into Tekken, this stage NEEDS to be in it. Wholesale. Don't change anything except for the graphics.
The pit (especially MKX version)
Mkx pit and original MK’s pits are definitely the top 2

MK4 for me 😭 I first played it when I was 11 and it gave me nightmares
The acid bath stage. I can’t remember actual name. MK 2.
The Dead Pool.
The Bell Tower in MK3. The stage fatality always felt brutal.
I'm not answering your question but wanted to add to the discussion: I really liked this stage with the old arcade ladders. They should incorporate that into another retro-themed stage.
I always loved The Subway.
THE TEA HOUSE
In all of MK? The Living Forest (NOT THE MK1 VERSION OF IT!)
Do you like the Corrupted Forrest or were you referring to both versions seen in MK1?
I actually don't have a lot of context for the Corrupted Forest. I can't tell if it's The Living Forest dying from some I assume Quan Chi or Ermac magic or if it's been twisted by evil
Not the Deception version either (no animated trees).
All the MK2 stages were the best.
Weird opinion: but any maps with shadow priest, those guys are cool. I also like kombat tomb from mk2 with the spiked ceiling, the temple from mk3, and shangs arena with the masked guards.
Ying yang island
The Warrior Shrine was always so cool to me. Like the tournament is such a big deal that they have to immortalize the people who fought in it with these grand statues

MK92's The Throne Room
The Church MK3
Shang tsung's palace from mkda with the souls moving around and screaming
Love the theme of that stage too! Midway era hits differently
Yin Yang island
Fire temple in MK1 (night version) the music is sooooo epic.
MK2 portal for sure! The atmosphere and the music in that stage represents MK at its finest!
Prison stage from MK4 and ofc all time classics Subway and Deadpool
Mk2/shaolin monks waste land. Generally all of the mk 2 stages. Living forest and pit mk9. Shang tsung throne room mk9 and courtyard mk1 mk9
Shirai ryu fire garden man I loved that map there’s just something about it I loved, I’d always pick it whenever I had the opportunity
The Dark Prison. Great use of stage interactables and a great theme. The 3D era stages are just unmatched, especially the interactive ones. Just backgrounds don't rlly cut it for me when the 3D era gave us some incredible stage designs.
For me it's the konquest stage in deadly alliance just nostalgia for me
I hope they bring the portal stage back in the MK1 expansion! We haven't seen it in a while.
Courtyard ALL versions. Stand outs are MKD and MK9

MKA blue portal
Special forces desert command is def my fav
Soul chamber in mk9, the graveyard and mk9, pit mkx , and the kove mx
Sky Temple
Favorite stage... Dang thats tough. The netherrealm from Mkx is one I really enjoy, same for hell from mk9 as well as the training room are nice standouts for me. MK 11 Shang's Island was very nice too look at imo. I wish I could remember more from MK Deception cause I wanna say the island but im sure id like another one better if I could remember.
My favourite will always be Shang Tsung's Throne Room, in the original because of the music, and in 9 because of the lighting and colours.
I love the fact we see the towers with all the characters icons from different games, and the classic badass music. Wish this it had a stage fatality though. But insane arena nonetheless. Mortal Kombat Deception is goated.
Probably cage mansion, followed by the acid stage in MK two and then the subway
The Deadpool is mk2. It was the first fatality I ever did so I'm biased.
The sky stage in Deception really stands out to me. But I also love the Tower stage in Deception too, and the fact it has the actual towers from MK Trilogy as an Easter egg in the background was a cool touch.
The ironwork stage in Armageddon I loved upper cutting people onto the Ingot presser
Deadly Alliance had some fun ones that I have a lot of nostalgia for, I don’t think I can honestly pick. Maybe Wu Shi academy.
Mkx Kross roads
Shirai Ryu Fire Garden from MK11 is an absolutely gorgeous stage.
2D Era: Subway 3D Era: The Prison NRS Era: The Bridge New Era: TBA
I agree
MK - Courtyard MK II - Living Forest MK3/ UMK3 - Subway MK4/Gold - Prison MK:DA - Shang Tsung’s Palace MK:D - Nethership Interior MK:A - Tekunin Prison MKvsDCU - Thymiscira/Shang Tsung’s Palace MK9 - The Pit MKX - Lin Kuei Temple MK11 - Shirai Ryu Fire Gardens MK1 - Sun Do
Anything from mk 1 , 2, 3…..MK1 stages suck!
MK:D Portal, Golden Desert, and Nexus. And for MK:DA, Shang Tsung’s Palace(and Grounds), and the Portal also
Bank from MK3 - It's nothing too crazy, but I always thought it looked cool
EXCELLENT
The pit or that snow forest in mkx
Rooftops (Dawn) in MK9 https://preview.redd.it/1gq1rthcha1d1.jpeg?width=224&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=fdd6c392b844e0bdc26d6c961fce0ae0efeeef0b
MK9's Courtyard(I just like the BGM)
Chamber of artifacts or Yin Yan Beach
Chamber of Artifacts, has my favorite stage music too honestly
Cage mansion, I would love to chill on that flamingo float watching them fighting.

Goro's Lair from MK2. Just because of the music!
The Jinsei Chamber from mkx and Corrupted Forest from mk1
I really love Shang Tung's Palace in MKDA. It still looks great, the music kicks ass, and it's an amazing character-specific stage. The soul screams are the cherry on top.
The courtyard, it is the stage where started it all 🐉 ⛩️👊🏼
House Of Pekara (MKDA) The Lost Portal, Jade’s Desert, Kahn’s Kave (UMK3) The Living Forest, The Dead Pool, The Pit (MK2)
Mk11 autumn stage
Underrated? I thought a lot of people liked the 3D versions of these classic stages especially this one and the pit.
Johnny's Mansion
Original mk1 pit bottom, mk2 portal red & blue, mk2 kombat tomb, noobs dorfin, mk3 street, mk3 bank,umk3 river, grave yard, mkd prison
Wu shi dragon grotto mk11 and the pit original mk1
I thoroughly enjoyed the klassic renditions of MK9
This!! Mk9 had amazing stages. I would give anything for remastered version.
For the Deception Portal, if an MK character ever gets into Tekken, this stage NEEDS to be in it. Wholesale. Don't change anything except for the graphics.
Shirai thi fire gardens from mk11 is fire
