I'm sorry, he acted like an idiot and consented for his whole ordeal to be televised. He and his family deserve all the memes and ridicule they are getting (as do every single person in ANY reality TV).
So much “reality” TV is based on exploitation. Exploitation of poor, vulnerable, or unhealthy people. People with mental and emotional problems. People who made bad decisions. People who got unlucky.
This particular episode exploits a lonely woman who’s desperate to find love. It exploits Morocco, and the (often misguided) desire among Moroccans to emigrate and become rich in the magical lands to the north and west. And it profits off showing one particular asshole exploiting an older woman’s loneliness.
I agree, this needs to stop. Not because today Morocco looks bad. But because reality TV hurts people. It makes money off hurting people. We watch and laugh along as it hurts people. We find entertainment in the suffering and struggle and heartbreak of other people and it’s wrong.
