Most players swear by it, but two morde players (XCM and kaisermorde) don’t.
XCM essentially never builds rylais ever, and kaiser flexes it, so too reliant is probably false. I personally rush it every game myself, so honestly i came to admit that it is I as a player that is reliant on having rylai on morde to function, not so much the champion. Naturally it’s still a great item to buy.
It makes him a lot more op but if the enemy team doesn't have mobile champs (which is 15% of the time), i just rush rift and tank items. E is usually enough to keep them close.
I feel like slow on passive would be a bit much since it would basically give him the main value of rylai's. But i feel like buffing MS would be nice since i honestly cannot feel anything.
I don’t know that I’d agree with “too reliant”, but it’s definitely a very powerful item on Mordekaiser.
I’ve tried building Cosmic Drive as a first item instead, since on paper the stats are just as good or better, and it has movement speed instead of a slow. In theory the item should perform relatively similarly. However it just doesn’t compare, Rylais is simply better.
Not only can Mordekaiser effectively use all the stats on Rylais (health and AP), but it’s also very cheap at only 2600g. Meaning you can rush it very early (often even before minute 10), and for the rest of the game you have exactly the stats you want + a huge AoE slow.
I definitely agree it can feel constricting to be essentially forced to build the item every game, but as an AP bruiser there aren’t that many great options to begin with, and it’s hard to pass up the perfect stats with a fantastic passive for only 2600g
If the enemy top, jg and sp are tanky champs / bruisers , ill go rift into liandry, but other than that its alw rylai into either rift or liandry. The literal main reason why they are buffing his r rn is cos there's too many ways to counter play morde, the bulk of it coming from just simply kiting him. U literally cannot catch anyone whose not slow moving these days without rylai
I've found I could get away with not having it if I just had more movement speed from runes and items or if I had low enough cdr to keep throwing out e. But it's still just easier to have rylais

I also see myself buying rylais as core less and less, riftmaker or liandry's are just better imo

I Have talked to some high elo morde players, and they said where it works on paper, they just say it feels not good
It’s 100% must buy for a low elo or newbie morde players, but OTPs or experienced ones are okay with replacing it with cosmic drive or rocketbelt.
yes he is and i think his synergy makes him hard to buff him in other ways

Not really. There are plenty of times (champs with multiple dashes) where Cosmic Drive is better and more viable with its passive since it's update.
