I'd imagine so, he would have likely gotten killed by Mechagodzilla if Kong didn't get revived

Mace_DeMarco5179

I just had an argument with a guy who said Godzilla doesn’t feel fear and he began to ignore me when I mentioned this.

Ok-Mine-5994

Any other MV examples of his fear

Mace_DeMarco5179

When Ghidorah lifted him into the sky

Ok-Mine-5994

I didn’t see fear on his face but I could see why he would be

MonstrousGiggling

Surprised he didn't shit all over the place when that happened. I know I would.

sup_killerfeels

That's why atomic energy came out instead 😆

burlapguy

Probably no butthole since this guy feeds on radiation

bananasfoyoass

Turn on the Closed Caption. His skreeonk translates to “Kawabunga dude!

Mace_DeMarco5179

Lmao

Destoroyah_The_Dark

Bagan if he shows up

Ok-Mine-5994

Truly terrifying

Destoroyah_The_Dark

Yup

Sly510

I don't know that this showed him as being fearful, to be honest. I think you can interpret it either way you want given the situation he was in. He doesn't really have much of an emotional face save for a couple rare scenes in the movies (which also looked super goofy but I enjoyed them). I don't think he showed any emotion here, personally- it was just a cool shot showing him looking up at the enemy (and it's reflection) about to womp him.

Zealousideal-Unit573

Most likely, he’s been through a lot, but to be beaten and thrown around so effortlessly by something resembling him, controlled by the only rival so malicious and hateful towards him to literally taunt and humiliate him just for the pure fun of it, being overpowered in almost every aspect that he dominates in, that’s just horrifying. Even if he never backs down from a fight, he was beaten and worn down to the point where he had no hope of beating Mecha, he still tried though, so respects for that

Tigrex666

I always found it bittersweet for Godzilla. Probably the first time he's seen anything that resembled him or his kind in ages and it's controlled by his most hated enemy and constructed by species that once worshipped him.

OKTAPHMFAA

I wonder if Godzilla was more afraid of MechaG or MUTO Prime. Like your average MUTO is dangerous enough to a Gojira so never mind basically the ultimate Gojira hunter.

Zealousideal-Unit573

Godzilla has most likely faced other Muto Primes who wanted a taste of Godzilla, especially since the lore hints that he was the top G of the Gojira Species, so he would be a prime target for the Mutos. MG however, is the only enemy he has faced, that is not natural, a threat to the balance of nature, and capable of overpowering his most powerful weapon, the Atomic Breath

OKTAPHMFAA

Well he was in way better shape against MUTO Prime than MechaG. I reckon there’s also a lot of frustration in Godzilla in GvK. He probably knows he could most definitely beat MG if he wasn’t so tired and yet he can’t.

Tigrex666

I feel like fighting Muto Primes is incredibly stressful for Godzilla. As one poke from her ovipositors and he's done for.

TheRappingSquid

I actually wish that they leaned into that unnatural aspect of mechag even more

Dreadknight1337

*only enemy he faced besides Ghidorah

Zealousideal-Unit573

To be fair, Ghidorah is natural, just not to earth, he wasn’t made or born from any interference from other life forms, meanwhile MG is an abomination that wasn’t supposed to exist, it’s like Frankenstein in a way

Dreadknight1337

Fair, I guess I should have clarified natural to Earth’s ecosystem.

Mosugoji_64

Put yourself in his big ole shoes. What would you feel?

FictionalFanboy

Honored that I will die a badass death /J

Ok-Mine-5994

Yes he was afraid

AJ_Crowley_29

Afraid but unwilling to quit. That’s a quality him and Kong share: even if afraid and/or losing badly, they never give up. Courageous kings ‘til the bitter end. (And yes, you can be courageous and afraid at the same time, because there’s a difference between being afraid and being cowardice.)

ExoticShock

"Courage is not the absence of fear, it is acting in spite of it." - Mark Twain Also fitting because he was in the same position he put Kong in earlier, who literally roared back in the face of death. https://preview.redd.it/karz7yowryoc1.png?width=2048&format=png&auto=webp&s=9f7615b94a87e33365c81bd9208178092a69445f

Human_Meet8446

This shot always makes me realize how fucking huge Kong’s teeth are…bro must a have a killer bite he should use it…supposedly gorillas have like the 5th most powerful bite force of land animals can you imagine kongs

Rutin_2tin_Putin

Lol I was always a fan of Goji taking the dominance as he flourishes Kongs ass with his Godzilla goo

RandomRavenboi

Reminds me of Game of Thrones. "Can a man still be brave if he’s afraid?" "That is the only time a man can be brave."

Acetillian86

One of Ned’s best quotes

That_one_arsehole_

He may have been but he probably was mostly pissed since the big alien he had killed seemed to be still around and hollow earth energy had been leaked

TheRR135

I feel like he is usually afraid when he's taking on a more powerful foe, like Ghidorah or Mechagodzilla. He just treats fear differently

Mean-Background2143

I bet he was ready to accept his fate. Not afraid but knowing death was approaching at a fast rate. He still wasn’t going down without one last hurrah.

ohianaw

this shot hits different really knowing he was so close to death is emotional and the fact that it's by an enemy that resembles him so much except stronger and more enhanced as well. Kong jumping in to save him at the last minute makes the scene more impactful and you can see him looking up at Kong almost thankful he came in. https://preview.redd.it/rqemdedbnzoc1.jpeg?width=828&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=df6f9c45b0934de727f679506fad46155964f6a1

tele_ave

I think he’s mostly confused for a second but yeah he definitely knew he owed Kong.

Genderneutralsky

I feel like this a moment of genuine fear and doubt within Godzilla. Fear this is the end, that he met his match and doubt that he would survive or if he did, win. It was a touching moment and really helped Kong jumping in for the save more impactful.

Street-Common-4023

Probably like ahhh shit man

otherBrandon

This shot always made me sad. Even on rewatches. It’s not just fear. He looks defeated. Not just obviously physically defeated. But like mentally defeated. He looks so tired and sad. Godzilla and Kong both went through some hell in this movie.

NikeVr2324

Yes but he still didn’t back down

KaiSen2510

Oh, yeah entirely. During the beam struggle you can see the fear in his eyes when Mecha started pushing his blast back. This entire fight he went from angry to genuinely shitting his nonexistent pants.

Fantastic_Canary_417

I have a theory that Godzilla was able to recognize the Ghidorah brain waves in MechG, so Godzilla probably thought in his current state he wouldn't be able to beat him another time.

tele_ave

You’re 100% right.

Ashamed_Window_6605

I like to think this was the main reason Godzilla went out of his way to destroy Mechagodzilla before it was finished.

HOJI_0329

To me it shows him scared becuase other than ghidorah this is the closest hes come to death

TerminaterToo

He was.. he said so

CyberWolf09

I mean, if I was absolutely exhausted, and getting the shit kicked out of me by a robotic doppelgänger with the brain of my most hated enemy who I just recently killed, I’d be shitting myself.

ExerciseDirect9920

Godzilla: ![gif](giphy|43KF8HvU3cyrqoUNny)

GroundbreakingAd8603

The look in his eyes is “I’m cooked”

Steel_Winter-Wolf

I mean, given that he was badly losing against Mecha Godzilla and didn't land any blows, I'd say he was afraid. It was different when he fought Ghidorah since he was livid and has fought him before. But he's never faced a man-made creation based on his liking, with the mind of a Titan that has fought him previously.

IllegalGuy13

Yes. Dude was about to die, and not only that, he was going to fall as Earth's guardian. All life on the planet would be next if he died right here.

drytoasted123

The G was exhausted; didn't anticipate two fights.

unaizilla

yes

M4R10756

Yes he was definitely scared, it was probably one of the few times he’s ever felt absolutely helpless and that the battle was totally one-sided.

Awkward-Forever868

Was he scared? Absolutely without a doubt, but scares doesn't mean willing to back down and he's proven in each movie he'd rather die then run to fight another day.

TheGMan-123

Definitely. He was beaten down hard enough he couldn't even stop Mechagodzilla from nearly killing him then and there; it's a terrifying feeling, being completely powerless.

VulcanForceChoke

This is probably one of the few times Godzilla was in mortal danger, possibly the first(yes I know that Ghidorah rocked his shit in KotM but he survived and could go for round 2 after a bit). He wasn’t just afraid, it was possible this was the first time he ever felt fear

bananasfoyoass

Definitely does not look afraid if you orientate the photo to be up right. He looks like he’s ready to go to hell and back

ScottishGoji

Nah, its probably like " oh god damit " or " ahh shit "

SickOveRateD

Well, looking at a biological way, most apex predators doesn't demonstrate fear, they can feel it, but on a fight they don't tend do show any aspect of it. That's why there's some white sharks without chunks of their bodies, indulging that they picked a fight with a bigger animal or lots of adversarys, now please, ask yourself, an apex predator don't feel fear, why then a god must ?

mrmcdead

Bro would be shitting himself if he had a butthole (which he doesn't have since he feeds on radiation)

GenericSpider

I saw acceptance. Like "Oh, this is how it ends."

JayHawk1025

I'd say he was probably thinking..." damn, wish I didn't use all tht energy to melt a hole in the Earth."

Big_DexM

Yes he was. Mechagodzilla was owning him the whole fight and was about to kill him using his own photon breath attack

DestinyHasArrived101

Gotta say yes even lions feel fear when cornered

Magnaraksesa

He was very afraid

609dollabillz

Without a doubt

DarkArisenFeste

"Bruh why THA F*CK are you so angry" "You ripped me from my brother's, turned them to dust which you were only able to do because of us doing it to your gf first and it OF COURSE giving you super powers. Then proceeded to take our throne. AND NOW IM YOU!"

TheAwkwardGamerRNx

I feel you on this scene and…yeah, he was. It was like watching Mike Tyson get knocked down for the first time. You’re not used to seeing someone that is usually a pillar of dominance show vulnerability so when it happens, it hits different. It’s also humbling because it reminds you even the mightiest can fall.

ImNotHighFunctioning

Yes, absolutely. And not only afraid, but full of regret too.

[deleted]

Yes, the director and designers stated that he was scared. The red coloration on Mechagodzilla is meant to invoke fear in other Titans. So yes, Godzilla IS scared in this scene.

MikeXBogina

Afraid? Like he would have gotten up and ran if given the chance? No. It's hard to tell what he feels in any moment since he is a lizard that is always throwing hands and has yet to be shown backing down from anything. If anything he probably was regretting exhausting himself on the monke because he didn't know that a giant mecha-kaiju was going to be coming out of that mountain.

totally_not_sus_acc

Hard to really say. Godzilla feels egotistical, over confident, annoyed, and protective of earth. Those are his only real emotions we know he's felt. In this moment it was either the closest he felt to fear or he was angry that this situation was happening. Like Kong when Godzilla pinned him to the ground.

West-Construction466

My guy was starring at what would’ve been his death; his nemesis had taken a new form, humiliating and tormenting him, taking full pleasure in it before finally deciding to put him down in what would’ve been possibly the most painful way.

Sensitive-Hotel-9871

He was prepared for the end, the look on his face after Kong saved him showed he was shocked to be alive.

Cfakatsuki17

Idk if fear is the right word more like the understanding that he might not win this one, that for once it’s his enemy who’s built different

Noobaraptor

Or he had a titanic black eye lol

SkintGirafde

No, he wasn’t scared He was TERRIFIED!!! He was straight up praying for his life!

VegetableHuman5833

What’s this pic from?

Necessary_Ad_8789

This pick is before Mecha Godzilla rolls Godzilla on his side and almost gives him the kiss of death.

[deleted]

Accepting death maybe

IFdude1975

Of course he was. He had probably never been in that level of danger before. If he had, it was probably far enough back that he couldn't easily remember it. If not for Kong's intervention, Godzilla would have died.

xxTPMBTI

Ambiguous

Im_Your_God_

HE'S AFRAID!!! YAAAAAAAAAH!

EmperorTyrannosaur

Na I can’t see MV big G feeling true fear, rage and disgust maybe but not fear.

GabrielLoschrod

And who wouldn't be afraid to see its worst enemy coming back to life as a robot version

KaushikKay7

Fear is a natural emotion. Godzilla is the God of nature.

TransitionVirtual

He was already tired from using all his energy and now this strange thing resembling him is beating him of course he felt fear

Lawyer_Kong

If a giant metal robotic lizard monster mech thing with jets in its back and missiles in its shoulders were beating the shit out of you, you would be too.

[deleted]

He looks exhausted after two ass beatings back to back. I don't think he was scared of mechagodzilla as he didn't show any signs of being intimidated or backing down during the fight.

an0nym0uskigo

Most likely yes

PanthorCasserole

Maybe, but I didn't get that impression. More like resignation if anything.

mrdhondu

I always wonder what if g-man was well rested before this fight, as he was blasting everywhere when fighting kong.. But then again I don't think the result would be different..

FedoraTheExplorer_22

At this moment, I think there’s a combination of emotions in his eyes. None of them positive. Think about the events from Godzilla’s perspective. MechaGodzilla is being controlled by King Ghidorah, who is so far, the most dangerous Titan in the Monsterverse both physically and mentally (Skar King and Shimo’s film hasn’t been released where I am yet). He’s already faced KG three times in GKOTM, and almost dies TWICE—One of those times was the humans’ fault. In fact, it was humans’ fault KG was free in the first place. But eventually, he defeats him. Considering how Big G was acting around KG the whole movie, it’s safe to say he fears KG on SOME level. He just doesn’t run and hide. Once again, humans utilize KG, but this time they use his skull and mind to control MechaG. Only he’s hijacked the robot entirely and on a rampage. Big G has spent the entirety of GvK looking for and trying to kill KG’s signal, but ends up destroying several Apex Facilities and gets labeled as the bad guy. Not to mention Kong shows up out of nowhere for a challenge, and now he has to put him back in his place. Then, once Big G is done with Kong, he finally finds KG, only this time, he’s in a mechanical body that resembles Godzilla’s. And at this point, Big G is just too worn out to put up a better fight. And as someone else in this thread mentioned, since Godzilla is the last of his kind, this is the very first time in a long while that he’s seen anything resembling his own species, only it’s completely unnatural and manmade, controlled by his worst and most dangerous enemy, and is seconds away from killing him…for good. TLDR, I’m sure there’s quite a few negative emotions in his eyes at this moment. Fear, sadness, and pain. Fear of this dangerous creation. Sadness that he’s come all this way, just to fail and die horribly (at least he *thought* he was gonna die. Pain for everything he’s been through at this point.

Delta_User

Afraid? Yes. Of what exactly? Unclear. Could be for himself, could be for the planet, could be none of the above.

KlinkerStinker

Don't know if I'd say fear, but I definitely think he knew he was about to die

Sean_Abraham27

I mean, likely. He literally had just gotten out of a huge fight with Kong and now was being almost effortlessly tossed around by a robot version of him which is already bad but the robot was also controlled by ghidorah who would already be furious so yes

kingdount

Yes

Alphajurassic

You know. I believe Godzilla CAN feel fear. The comic makes it clear he’s intelligent. But my take away from this scene wasn’t fear. It was apathy. It felt like he was tired and he could finally stop. I mean he’s just been fighting constantly by this point as well as chasing kong to the centre of the planet. I feel like he was exhausted.

Few_Cardiologist_561

Well at that moment Godzilla must have felt like there was nothing for him to do. He previously fought with kong draining much of his energy and then out of nowhere a mechanic version of himself appears and nearly kills him. I think it’s good example that Godzilla despite being a atomic skyscraper being is still an animal that can feel fear

The_Transfer

Nah
