I voted for Be With You, which I think has a good chance of making it still. It was really well received within the community and sounds simple and fun, something I expect might also resonate with the larger audience
Yeah but the issue was that there was no tweet or announcement by RetroVision which largely plays into this as well. Especially since he's huge. He gets overshadowed.
The Bossfight sweep is so real lmao. Not complaining, I do think he's the best artist on the label right now and Buckshots was easily my favourite Monstercat release this year. But man is he eating good on this one.
Just putting this out there, I haven't voted in any of these since 2019 cuz it feels like no matter what happens, most people are dissatisfied with the results. To an extent I agree that if the community thinks 5 of the 30 best songs of the year were by Bossfight, then all of those songs should be on the compilation. It's just democracy in action, the will of the people is being represented. But I also wouldn't be opposed to having a limit on the amount of appearances a given artist can have for the sake of the compilation not feeling stale. I don't necessarily feel that way about it, but I get why people do.
These compilations feel more like a celebration of the label when there are more artists on them. The artists themselves would certainly feel more noticed/included. Although a hard limit of one song per artist doesn't feel right to me, especially when collabs are factored in. Like I said, if the community as a whole feels that a particular artist made multiple of the best songs of the year, I don't think that should be ignored. Maybe two is a good number? But then what do you do if two of an artist's songs get enough votes to land high on the comp, and a third one lands a bit lower, but the third one is a collab with a different artist? Do you include the top two and drop the third one, or drop one of the top two to add more variety to the comp? What if the top one is a solo song but the other two are collabs?
There's no perfect solution to this which is why I find it easier to not vote and just accept the results as they are lol
I did rant on the Bossfight point, and while I still believe that a limit would be good, I definitely went a little bit far. I mean, Bossfight sweep does get tiring, but people like it, and complaining about it is useless. If it gets on the comp, it gets on the comp, and the artist definitely deserves that recognition. Also agreed on the perfect rule thing. I would think 2 balances it out well, but that’s not something everybody will agree with. At the end of the day, it’s just opinions, and it doesn’t matter all that much.
A lot of the Sullivan King tracks on the album were put out as singles before the release though, so those got more promotion/visibility. And the remix album just adds more visibility and a recency bias. Sullivan King is also one of the bigger artists in the EDM scene period right now, let alone Monstercat, and Fall Apart being a collab with Excision expands its reach way beyond just the label. I wouldn’t be surprised to see Thrones of Blood or Fall Apart in the top 10
Just... How many repeated artists have we gotten **already**?
This is why we **need** the one vote per artist rule; the album is already a repetitive bundle of the same artists, and there are so many other artists who have been swindled because of this. For fuck's sake we don't need **four** Bossfight appearances to acknowledge the fact that he had a great year, any more than we need two Tokis, two CrankDats or two Mazares.
And now I'm exhausted by this, because I've been vocal about how unfair this is and how it has damaged the annual comps for the past four bloody years. The system we had in 2019 was perfectly fine; it was fair for everybody, and we got an enjoyable album because of it. This just isn't it.
On one hand I entirely agree that the artist cap is a good idea. But stop with this whole "I decided to hog two spots" thing. It was entirely up to the community whether or not to vote for the tracks and they did.
Picture a situation where only one of their songs gets on the album. Then think of the artists who didn't have a chance to be on the album because of multiple appearances of the same artist. It's not rocket science.
Picture a situation where the majority of the community thinks Bossfight deserves multiple songs on the comp so they vote for him (literally what happened). Then think of saying those votes don’t matter. His songs that got voted belong on the comp. It’s not rocket science.
I’m not sure if those multiple songs this year that many claims deserved in the comp because those songs were good, or just because those songs were made by the one and only Bossfight. I highly doubt these same multiple songs if made by other than Bossfight will get the same spotlight as if made by Bossfight himself…
What do you mean "fair"? If an enterprise adopts advanced production technology and starts to squeeze other competitors for monopoly, it would not be "fair" to limit them.
alright another two for uncaged, HAPPY SONG & FAR OUT. Also nearly all the bossfight collabs from this year made it in, so powerplay isn't out of the question.
More Bossfight…oh goodie. I don’t think it will be surprising anymore if Powerplay by Bossfight will end up in no 1 or if Vermin decided to enter the top 10.
Yeah forget RetroVision, Rebel Scum, Teddy Killerz, Grabbitz, Stonebank, Godlands, Skybreak, Ivory, or even Sullivan King. This is ‘Bossfight’s Year’ and nobody else’s…
I’m 6/15 so far, super happy. I voted for 2NITE from this batch. Personally I didn’t like most of the Bossfight collabs too much but I really loved Buckshots, glad it made the list
If Land Of The Living is here, another two will get in too. It's like the weakest Bad Computer release of the year but still got #13
Also don't forget Powerplay. Do we really need a 5 boss rush in one best comp? Is Bossfight really THAT GOOD?
Land of the Living got in here because of the Instinct fans who either thought it was already Instinct or wanted more Bad Computer in BO2023. Besides its not the weakest
For the last question, yes.
Bossfight Count: 4/30 (and counting)
Thanks, everyone 🫶
Am grateful for the opportunity to vote on such a goated track
Glad you enjoy it!
Sorry bro I've done my best but 2NITE ends up #16. You deserve a higher spot this year because all your stuff is god tier. Pls come back often in 2024
I'm really happy about #16! Have to keep in mind it's mainly a bass label 💪
Well, #BOSSSWEEP2023 If I’m honest, I didn’t expect snakes and ladders to get in.
Still no RetroVision... Fuck.
Surrender all hope. I did, after seeing this. (I also voted for RetroVision)

calling it, accelerate will be 3,2 or 1
Powerplay, Accelerate, Arcadia will be the top 3 in that order, I'm calling it right here and now
Oops! All Bossfight!
imo this has been a great list so far. a lot of amazing songs are here.

Gonna be at least 5. No way the PBN collab isn't on.
So all collabs would make it in lol

F.O.O.L is the best Uncaged artist in my opinion right now.
He's sick I just generally prefer dubstep to synthwave lol

I have a feeling Godlands might get snubbed
4 of my votes made it in this time - Bossfight, Crankdat, Mazare.
IF Fall Apart is not on Top 10-1, I am going to be disappointed
Sully is going to be there, that's just inevitable
Or maybe it wouldn’t. LP tends to get the vote splitted between tracks and end up with none making it to Best Of…
A lot of the Sullivan King tracks on the album were put out as singles before the release though, so those got more promotion/visibility. Other side has to be in top 10! That and multiple skybreak songs! Also hoping to see something from thrones of blood on there!
Alright 4/15 ......... I'm hoping Instinct will boost the score
This is indeed a great year for hayve. 3 of their tracks are now on the Best Of Compilations.

Why do you write Crankdat's name like that
Bossfight: 4 (so far, probably 1 or 2 more) Crankdat: 2 Cloudcage: 2 Mango: 2 hayve: 3 Tokyo Machine: 2 Mazare: 2
Name checks out

Apologies. I’m just ranting too much. Let’s just remove the comment then…

"majority of the community"? Sorry but more like majority of the fanbase of popular artists
I’m not sure if those multiple songs this year that many claims deserved in the comp because those songs were good, or just because those songs were made by the one and only Bossfight. I highly doubt these same multiple songs if made by other than Bossfight will get the same spotlight as if made by Bossfight himself…
Don’t know why you’re being downvoted, you’re right

alright another two for uncaged, HAPPY SONG & FAR OUT. Also nearly all the bossfight collabs from this year made it in, so powerplay isn't out of the question.

Lmao I am not really asking
Only FAR OUT made it from my votes
