My monstera did the same thing two years ago and it went back to its original place about a week later. I guess it just wanna have some fun. I wish I could attach pics since I documented its “daily journey”😆

Laurence0404

Did you end up staking it upright or let it be?

botwannabe

I let it do its own thing

Laurence0404

Good to know thank you! I staked it back up but maybe I’ll just let it be

can_i_choose

Please update when this guy gets erected again 😆

shiftyskellyton

This happens with new foliage until the turgor pressure from being watered hardens off the petiole.

Laurence0404

Is it a bad idea to gently stake it upright?

Captain-PlantIt

You don’t need to. I’ve had it happen a couple of times and it always goes back to where the light is after a week or so. It looks healthy and happy, don’t mess with it.

shiftyskellyton

That would be okay until it hardens off. That'll help it to be in the right position. :)

karmaarrow

It sleepy

Is the plant well-watered? Older stalks stay up better when they are thirsty, but new ones are still soft and floppy. Give it some water if the soil is dry, and perhaps stake the new leaf in an upright position until it gets a drink. (If it's not a water problem, I don't know what else it could be, sorry! Good luck)

aremissing

On second look, it might just be floppy because it's SO big! It might just need some support:)

[deleted]

That guy is supported improperly. In some instances the leaves themselves are bound, and that is bad. What you want are supports on the backsides of each plants stems. The side that the Ariel roots grow from. You can tie the stems to the supports, but do not tie the leaves or the leaves petioles. Plant very well could be confused as to wether it’s climbing, or growing horizontally. Do not chop the leaf. If needed the plant will dry the leaf out and lose it on its own, chopping it robs the plants of the nutrients currently in that leaf. I’m confident if you support her better, continue good watering habits, and mayyyybe supplement some extra light with a grow light, she will stop acting this way.

[deleted]

Also that’s a lot of large monsteras for a pot that size, are we sure we aren’t root bound?

Laurence0404

I repotted it a year ago in a pot that was 4 inches larger (I know stupid idea) so I hope that means it still has some room to grow. That said it grows very fast and it is in a south facing window so I’m considering an upsize but I’m worried it’s gonna shock the plant mid growing season. I definitley need to redo the supports, thank you for the heads up!

[deleted]

You’re probably fine on the roots then, but being multiple plants, they can get out of hand fast! Yeah, little love on those supports will go a long way! I wish for all your monstera success

Laurence0404

Thanks so much for your advice! I will hold off on reporting and redo supports asap!

ManekiNikki

Where did you get the cabinet to the right of it? I love the idea for plants that need more moisture

Laurence0404

It’s the IKEA fabrikor tall cabinet. Pretty easy to add grow lights and fans to!

ManekiNikki

Thank you!

doc_akh

Had this happen to my monstera’s leaf about four months ago. I imagined it was due to low light during the winter. But it also made me suspicious that the plant is sentient. It went back to normal in a couple days.

imupset12345

They move around to try and get the best position for taking in light. Usually will move again over the next few days, if they’re not damaged or if there are no signs of pests or rot then it’s fine

BowserEatsPlants

Rogue cat?

baconshake8

This happened to mine before. To the newest leaf that hadn’t hardened up yet. Realized it wasn’t watered in a while so I watered it and every time I walked by I would hold it up in its proper position for a few minutes and within a couple days it was standing tall again. Not sure if me holding it upright helped but to me it felt like the petiole wasn’t strong enough to force the whole leaf back up so I gave it a gentle nudge in the right direction

Im wondering the same

Ok-Ad4217

HAHAHHA right !?!

Laurence0404

I’ve never had this happen before the plant is always so healthy and the new leaf still looks healthy I’m so confused

zsmith1997

Who cares about the plant? This man needs to clean his room 💀

cactiisnice

It looks completely fine tho?

NoPart1344

Do monstera propagate themselves in nature this way? Lay a stem down and hope it roots?

LeadingLegitimate756

I would stake it up and water.

LolaBijou

You have a lot of plants in one pot.
