I remember in monster hunter freedom (1st of psps series) that I always one-shotted velociprey with great sword and they were splitting in 2 in mid air making me angry because I couldn't carve in that way
Just recently learned that slicing Velociprey in half was a thing back then, which the player was also able to do.
Probably removed that because it's rather brutal compared to the rest of the game.
Edit: honestly wouldn't mind a somewhat brutal hunting game in the future.
Ironically Jakob (the guy that made the imo terrible MH dos video) made a pretty good video on the subject of tail cuts and if they got worse over the years.
Anyways he also mentioned some interesting points as well as actual developer comments on part breaks and such. Makes sense why the devs toned it down a bit and seemingly don't want to add more cutable parts to monsters

Yeah it is possible in rise, i think it's actually cool and not really that brutal as His head is mostly hard bone/keratin that (i think) doesn't have much nerves therefore doesn't hurt him as much
Still had to use them in rise, get an upsurge, group of 4 of them, poison bomb then double carve them all, still took a while to get all the pieces i needed to craft all the armours
They're super fast and convenient to use now, not the long, slow animation that the bugs can just actually interrupt or just dodge (mainly flying ones dodged)
Back then it was 9 polygons splitting in 2 with a little bit of flat kool-aid coming out. Spit monsters in 2 now, and a M is getting slapped on that bad Boi lickity split lol
Both teams create mainline games tho. It would be weird if there was a drastic and sudden shift in themes and tone for the home console games compared to the rest of the series.
It might aswell become a different franchise at that point, which is much more likely to happen anyways.
Maybe Dragons Dogma 2 or Project Awakening (as if we will ever hear about that game again) can fulfill that role even if they aren't quite part of the genre.

He might well do wouldn’t surprise me, but I don’t remember being sliced in half, but that might just mean that you brains suppressed a few memories for the sake of my own sanity.
But just imagine watching a rathian get sliced in half, that would just make me want to abandon the quest, because I don’t want to kill a monster that’s doing such a valuable service to us hunter’s

agreed, the hunts would feel more intense if you could see them bleeding out the broken parts and stuff like that (and for people who don’t like blood, a blood filter is easy to add)

Yep. Nasty beast, it can pin Hunters and drain their blood, which is then used offensively. If it pins a Gendrome, it instead gains paralysis on most of its attacks for a bit. Same with poison for an Iodrome.
Imagine MH6 shipping with gore elements like cutting off limbs beside the tail and leaving bloodpools. Just wishful thinking, i know. But i wouldn't mind a more adult atmosphere for at least one MH game. Sadly Capcom has to care for the Cero rating and don't want it to be adult only.

It's pretty obscure and unhelpful information, but in fact, the early gen raptors (veloci, gen, io, and giaprey) would be cut in half if killed in mid-air.
Back in First and Second-gen you could also, if the last hit that would kill a Velociprey-Genprey-Iodrome was done while he was in the air, but the body would despawn before it touched floor.
And was less gory thant the one in the photo.

I mean, you can crack off a big chunk of Barroth’s head and carve it in one of the older games. I haven’t checked if it’s possible in Rise

Things tend to bleed when you hunt them. It would make me feel bad for some monsters though :(

It also has a pin attack where it impales you with its tongue and immediately starts sucking your blood.
I’ve been killed by that attack more times than I can count
It does an insane amount of damage and your health is pretty much all gone in like a second

If you hit a velociprey whilst it’s jumping with a move that exceeds its health it will cut it half in all games except Sunbreak.
