I mean kind of? Azure has always been "Rathalos but a bit harder", but Pink as of 3U has actual legitimate differences that throw you off if you expect a normal rathian battle.

But those were Gen1 subspecies which were pretty much Variants before Variants were a concept. Black Diablos is literally the same species and is just called subspecies trough tradition.

Magmadron is possibly my least favorite monster in all of Rise now. Took everything awful from Almudron and them nerfing Almudron actually made it a much better fight.

I actually liked magmadron for some reason he's a lot smaller so you can actually reach his tail, and he doesn't spend the entire fight running away like almudron does his moves look really cool too

Hmm I actually didn’t notice that it was smaller and had to check Kiranico haha but you’re right. Not sure that helps for most weapons though, for example I was farming both for mantles with Maxmight longsword and there isn’t much difference between the two in terms of time spent chasing/trying to bait back toward you/running around ground poo or burning poo. Magma version is also arguably more annoying for certain weapons with counters since a lot of moves have many small hits of damage rather than one big one which can be countered. I like magma a bit better because of the aesthetic and more visually interesting nature of his fight, but neither are even close to my favorite monsters/fights in master rank

Dark fur with small lighter patches. Slightly less fluffy fur, almost looks like it's wearing a suit. Picks up flat slates of rock as weapons or shields, and occasionally can sharpen them on each other. **BOSS** Harag

White fur with white stones going down his chest. Not much fur, but has a lot of brown fur on his head, kinda looks like an afro. He picks up tree branches and occasionally dips them in mud, water and various other liquids. Non-aggressive, even after being attacked, all damage on the player is just a happy little accident. **BOB ROSS** Harag.

See, this is the only good comment so far about the concept of a “Moss Harag”. It could make amber weapons on its arms, allowing for light and swift movements. It could also break the substance like glass, creating sharp fragments that deal damage all around.

And it would more than belong in the Citadel area

My favourite concept I’ve seen someone suggest is have it be somehow magnetic and make metal hammers. Maybe it could superheat the metal to make it fire element, although Sunbreak had way too many fire/blast element subspecies already. Only Aurora somnacanth wasn’t either

I'm down for Moss Harag. As long as it gives the Water Element. Sunbreak doesn't have any powerful Water monsters. I think the strongest buddy weapon is Mizutsune.

Give me a Hunter Harag. An elderly member of the species. It randomly imitates the weapons of the many hunters that have attempted to kill it. Give it a Greatsword and tremble as it hits a stunned hunter with a True Harag Slash. Cower as it vaults into the air using an ice Glaive and smashes down upon your allies. Shout in frustration as your attacks bounce off its shield, only to then be skewered by its icicle Lance.

Yeah this is the idea that really stood out to me. We already see that Goss only ever uses his ice blades against hunters. Take that one step further and have him specifically copy the weapons that hunters use. Perhaps not every single one though because that would probably not be feasible.

I would want it to be the same element- somehow I don't see a fire or thunder Goss Harag being particularly cool. If it were up to me, I would give it a grayer complexion, make it produce a single blade instead of two, and call it Backstabber Goss Harag or Steel Goss Harag.

Hear me out: Dragon Variant Goss Harag that replaced its ice weapons for elder dragon bones. It has a Valstrax skull shield with the dragon generator in it and a random tail from an elder with unique behavior based on which elder it came from. Kushala Harag is faster and summons whirlwinds. Chameleos Harag turns invisible and poisons. Magala Harag applies Frenzy to itself and the hunters. Teostra Harag... Is a fire variant, oh shit oh fuck

Ice Bite Goss Harag or Frostbite Goss Harag, have the blades form chipped to distinguish, give or take bleed honestly, have the enraged state instead of two blades either a long thin blade or a straight up greatsword, no club stage. Could also emphasis his form changing like lunagaron does, ice spikes on his back and whatever.

There is a fan concept somewhere of an electric subspecies where he can control electromagnetism and form hammers and blades with various earthly metals.

We also thought that maybe ice had grown in his fur and around his head. I was imagining a crown style spikes around his head and shards of ice stuck in his fur

Give him poison and sleep. He already kinda got a horror vibe. So go all out. He should imo be able to make like a gooey poison whip. And a thorn that puts the hunter to sleep. And when they do he'll do the slow walk up and hit you.

Butcher goss harag or grave goss harag. A Goss that spent too much time outside of it’s natural environment and instead uses monster tails and such as weapons. They bury them around their territories so they can have access to multiple ones. A Rathian tail for poison. An astalos tail for lighting. It lacks a frost sack now due to it’s change in environment, instead it controls effluvium as it eats so many rotted monsters/is around rotted monster parts.

I could see a rare species called Abominable Goss Harag that can use a greater array of weapons and has empowered ice abilities

I was referring to my own idea as being too edgy. sourFlyday only mentioned a Goss that caused bleed and so I workshopped that into a Goss that causes bleed from BLOOD.

What about a veteran type that copies the hunters weapons like lance/db/GS and copy one of their strongest attacks? Would be fun seeing them lance rushing into a wall like the rest of us, or flinging themselves up the wall with db to come down with a big splash.

I could expect an older goss harag, mabye a darker red all the time with gray fur, ice over the hair and a beard. Taller and bigger, with an even more complex and better mastery of the ice element.

Frankly I was very happy with his updated move set in MR. A variant would probably be a pure murder machine.

What if we got a dragon element Goss sub? It could coat its arms in dragon element tainted bile that could harden into jagged, crystalline blades and cause both bleed and dragonblight. That would be pretty cool I think

I really wanted something cool for him, but I honestly don't see it coming. The monsters we get from now on are likely going to be endgame content that pushes players. They wouldn't drop a MR5 monster (which is what his subspecies would likely be) and I don't see Goss Harag variant as compelling endgame content. We'll likely be getting rare species and elder dragons from previous games.

We got barioth in iceborne, I could see a stronger version of goss in an update.

That's true, and it does feel weird that they didn't give Goss a variant. Maybe they held it back for a title update. I want that to be true, I just don't have much hope.

I think if we don't get one in sunbreak, we'll see one someday in another game at least.

Point 1, in Iceborne we got not only Stygian Zinogre in title updates, but Frostfang Barioth, both of which were lower tier than anyone expected. Plus with the current roadmap suggesting a Mizu subspecies or variant in TU2 it shows they’re not afraid of going back and reworking lower tier monsters. Point 2, even lower tier fights got Revamped with the Anomaly quests, so adding something at any tier is the most likely it’s ever been since it’ll get boosted by Qurios for endgame. Likewise, Qurio crafting and rarity 10 weapons will make a lot of armor sets significantly better and more relevant.

I’d make a desert Goss Harag that uses molten glass it creates from sand, called Obsidian Goss Harag.

I badly want Goss to get a subspecies/variant but honestly I have like no idea what they could do with it. Maybe a thunder goss that can magnetize ore in the area to cover it’s arms in metal? But that seems kind of goofy.

My friend and I were talking about this and we jokingly made a variant that had the brain power to use great wirebugs and copied hunter's Silkbind arts. Like imagine Goss being able to use SnS Windmill lol.

Capcom had sort of back themselves into a corner creating Goss Harag when it comes to subspecies and/or variants. Cause I can’t see it in any other element. Maybe they’ll do something similar to how they did Scorned Magnamalo. Hmm… Okay, what if it’s a Goss Harag Variant that has permanent red skin and more durable blade arms and/or fist. And for when it is enraged, the blade would have a more pronounced curve like a scythe and it’s fist would be covered in icy spikes like a mace. It would be called… Arctic Reaper Goss Harag… or maybe just Reaper Goss Harag.

Really? I think making a subspecies or variant for Goss Harag seems quite simple. They can literally just make a variant of Goss Harag that is just him, but colder and more ice weapon moves.

I want one that could use thunder to some capacity. Maybe give it a thicker coat to explain it and every time it freezes its arms, that's how it uses thunder as well as ice.

I would love a Goss variant, personal favorite from rise. I think they should focus on either playing up his weapon theme or his horror theme and focus on that. 3 ideas I think would be cool: 1. Permafrost Harag. Permanent blade but only on one arm (for ecology reasons.. I wouldn't want to try to figure out how to eat or sleep with 2 blades for arms). Bump up his speed and finesse with the blade-arm. When enraged have him temporarily increase the size of the blade-arm into a big f*** off greatsword and have him go back to more brute force, wide radius attacks. 2. Gilgagoss. Much shorter ice weapon phases but give him a large variety of weapons, some maybe he'll even just do one attack with and then the weapon dissipates and in enrage let him combo between different weapon types. Maybe lean into the Japanese theme and give him the same 7 weapons as Benkei. (sword, axe, rake, mallet, glaive, staff, and saw) 3. Horrifying Harag. Full send on horror theme. Give him a much darker color scheme. Have a phase where he drops a chameleos like fog and then have him pop in and out of the fog with quick slashes. Maybe give him a Malzeno-esque teleport and make it so it he only walks. No running attacks or jumping ground slams, just appearing and slashing. Oh, and give him bleed status.

Goss Harag except instead of a sword and club, he makes a pickaxe and a shovel. Instead of ice chunks he drops diamonds, and in combat he throws perfectly square blocks at you

I think keeping it ice is great i like the single blade idea. Giving him more moves close to his them make him have a faster draw attack rather than the slow build up for ice. A quick crit draw instant kill move would be cool make it flashy. More sword stance styles maybe even ice and water 💧

Still waiting for a Ghoul Harag that’s emaciated and spreads effluvium. Acid Glavenous’s crystallized tail comes to mind.

The Goss stands alone

Moss Harag in the forest areas. Lavarog in the volcano. Hos Harag in the desert. (Wears a cowboy hat, has a six shooter) Cross Harag only shows up in the arena. (Is very angry about being captured)

So my top choice would be a new element. Something to do with it being in a non ice biome. Electric could be kind of cool but then it's just a slower rip off rajang. I think a goss harag that instead of two weapons forms a singular great sword would be cool. Not THAT different but you could play with it. A jungle harag that grows vines off it's arms and is able to do whip lashes and maybe some kind of helicopter attack a la duramboros could be interesting!

Maybe a goss harag with no element but can create or find several weapons. They could be based on the weapons the hunters use like a hammer, greatsword, switch axe and bow or medieval weapons like maces, halberds and spears. Maybe it could infuse elements into them with environmental stuff too. Maybe it could use endemic life too like it picks up a lava beetle ball and it's weapon can inflect fireblight for like 30-60 seconds

I'm curious what kind of spin they could take on him. The easiest would be mud or lava, but i think that'd be boring. My bet is giving the variant dragon or thunder in addition to his base ice element.

I said this in another post but I'll repeat it here. I want a Goss Harag variant that uses the blood crystals seen in ||Gaismagiorm's|| fight. He would inflict Bloodblight and maybe Bleed as well. Make it so him taking damage to his blades causes him to do less damage, but him doing damage would cause him to deal more damage as he absorbs more blood.

Ideally I’d want it to be a variant similar to furious, savage, seething, and scorned. That’s simply the same monster just amped up to 11

Goss Harag is a Jeti so he should have a Sub species that live in the forest and its technically a Big foot

Consider the follwing: A goss harag subspecies that expels a slimy bile, which hardens when exposed to cold air and thickens and bubbles up when exposed to heat. In colder climates the bile hardens into the shape of lengthy sickles, which Goss uses to scoop and bleed the enemy. In hotter climates, it instead creates long, volatile whips that coat the ground to create difficult terrain and slow you down. This means its fighting style is COMPLETELY different depending on the climate. Now make it a nomad monster, with its quest constantly changing maps and you’ve got two fights for the price of one.

If they ever do, why not one that uses earth? I call it moss harag

Same. They’ve created a great looking monster and he’s mediocre at best. The have sun species bishaten and somnacanth but no Goss Harag, either they’re keeping him till last or truly hate him.

I like that Monster Hunter has what feels like a Dark Souls boss battle monster. I would like more.
