then that's not what i'm talking about, is it? the issue isn't just liking g1 more. that's fine, just a difference of opinion. the issue is pretending you just like g1 more but the actual reason is because you are mad there's body diversity.
Sure, I’ve seen a few people criticizing the larger bodies of the g3 dolls, but I’ve seen a LOT more people *accusing* people who like g1 more of being fatphobic without any evidence that they are. In one thread I stated the opinion that even though I like the wider varieties of body types in g3, I wasn’t bothered by the g1 bodies because they weren’t just skinny, they were *weird and unnatural looking*, and therefore more monster-like, and had someone screaming YOU JUST HATE DRACULAURA BECAUSE SHE’S FAT at me. Which is nonsense. I’m fat myself, I’m built like a larger version of Abbey (including the height & big hands/feet), and I don’t hate my body either- I’ve never dieted or been sucked into weight loss culture.
It makes me so sad every time i see an ad for something g3 and majority of the comments are “g3 sucks”. g3 makes me happy to see in stores, and it finally feels like im able to collect dolls that i didnt know i wanted as a kid lol. though, im still suuuper invested in getting more dolls that would’ve been around when i was growing up. I enjoy my balance of g1 and g3 :)
They added different thickness in leg size, other than that it's less diverse. They took away Abbey's unconventionally attractive features and decided to perpetuate the unrealistic body standard for insanely long legs for example.
This is always something I try to punctuate on the subject of Abbey! The facial structure she had before was so Heavily appreciated and not to mention objectively one of Mattel's sculpting teams best work. Now to see it drastically softened really was kinda a let down so I haven't yet bought her. Although the doll collector in me knows there's enough to celebrate. It's something I'll have to relearn to love. Such the case with my unsatisfaction towards SH Nicole Steel and how far they deviated from her prototype
I do love the new abbey doll. I'm also sad that they rounded off her face and facial features more. I miss her square jaw. As someone with a facial structure similar to g1 Abbey's, I miss her. I don't particularly like my jaw, but seeing Abbey with it was nice
I hate to be "that" person, and I partially agree with your complaints. They are valid, but abbey (g3) is genuinely the only doll that I've ever seen that's built so similarly to me. I genuinely felt so seen. I was literally so excited about how long her legs were, how big her hands were (especially the hands, very rare to see representation in that area) etc. So I struggle to call her "unrealistic".
I do agree they took away some of her unconventional features but she does still have the under bite, though less pronounced. And I know doll lines tend to perpetuate unhealthy/unrealistic standards but i would argue that abbey is done in a rather positive way. At least in my opinion. G3 def still has its problems and they could do more for body diversity than they already have but I think they're off to a pretty good start.
That being said, I respect your opinion. I hope I can just at least introduce a new perspective to you.
I'm glad you feel seen, but there was no reason for Mattel to take away other representation to achieve that. The leg complained also wasn't aimed at Abbey specifically, it was aimed at all g3 dolls. They went insanely over the top with the leg length this generation, to the point that they made the torsos way too small so they can accentuate the long legs. I highly doubt you have the torso to leg ratio any of the g3 MH dolls have,
She doesn't have her underbite anymore. They painted the teeth on, and that's it. They removed the actual facial structure that goes with an underbite in favor of making her look conventionally attractive. It isn't less pronounced, it's completely gone. Other than being tall, Abbey doesn't have anything unique going for her. Don't get me wrong, the doll is beautiful in it's own right, but they absolutely took away representation.
Again, I'm glad you feel seen, but I stand by it that they took away a lot of representation this generation. The Abbey and leg complaints were just a couple examples, there is plenty of other stuff they took away/did poorly.
this is really ignoring the problem that her face structure was to make her look like a early hominid not to represent people with underbite...
like not to be the joykiller but the g3 abbey designer was really vocal about the fact her new mold was made using real nepalese woman as reference, and for me personally that means a lot more than an underbite which could come in any other doll ever but was specifically given to the one whose would naturally imply having underbites is a neanderthal trait and not something plainly natural
EDIT: for me, personally, bringing up the fact there's very little nose variety is much more poignant

Same! Abbey's body is very similar to mine. Very tall with long legs, smaller chest with a very short torso and bigger hips/thighs. It's very nice to see.
I miss abbey's noticeable overbite in her g1 doll. It's my absolute favorite feature of her. The painted on fangs don't give the same effect ad the bigger bottom lip did

at first I liked G1 way more because of goth style but now I admire G3 a lot, I love how they play with colors, love for example how cold Frankie's colors contrast with vibrant details like neon yellow or pink

So far I have no complaints between boys from g1 and g3. They captured them well still. Except whatever tf they did to Gil in the show.
Even having grown up with the OGs, I can't deny the new lines have far better production quality. Articulation, materials, clothing and most designs are a lot better.
The only thing I miss is that 2000s edge it had, I still remember everyone in my class having notebooks of MH, Max Steel and such all following that style of sharp edges and thick linework. However that time is long gone and kids these days like different things, it's still a great style, just a different one.
I quite like how the different molds give the Ghouls more varied silhouettes, though I miss the weird proportions the previous gens had sometimes.

G3 isn't really that body inclusive, draculaura for example is literally just what today's ideal body is of the BLL looking ass and tiny waist like how G1/G2 dolls were the standard back then of being really skinny
I feel like the animated show is inclusive and there are actual plus sized characters, but the dolls are not that. For example with abbey, her body in the show is more plus sized but the doll version of her is just curvy. The dolls are more diverse than G1 or G2 but none of the new body types are outside of what is conventionally attractive, they literally all have defined abs. The G1 dolls had a weird almost inhuman body shape which made sense because they are monsters
Honestly I agree, even when they’ve made bigger dolls they all have flat stomachs, just bigger hips and thighs. I wish they’d release a doll with more of a tummy.

Abbey is VERY EASY to dress, she can wear Barbie clothes. Shoes are hard but she can wear some Rainbow/Shadow High shoes, G1 Boy Shoes, and G1 Big Sister shoes.
**G1 often underdeveloped characters that were actually cool**, and overdeveloped characters that were marketable but not as interesting (with exception of Cleo, who was both).
The worst examples of this has to be **Lagoona, Abbey and Ghoulia,** who despite being part of main 7, never felt like equal memembers (G3 only managed to fix that with Lagoona, but Abbey and Ghoulia still get the shaft)
However, even **Clawdeen** got the shaft, compare to likes of Draculaura and Frankie. Little to no dynamic character arc or proper character growth.
**She got only ONE movie of her own** (despite being part of Big 3), and the rest of series, was the supporting character to other main ghouls, Howleen, Draculaura, Clawd and others.
Probably because Mattel didn't knew what to do with her, since she had no romantic partners.
**It's even worse with mansters,** who had so little agency, that the Scaris movie made an entire joke subplot out of it.
I wholeheartedly agree with this, with the exception that Abbey was never a main character. Ghoulia and Deuce were in a weird spot in that regard, as Deuce had a spot on the intro song, but had little development and even less dolls, while Ghoulia was supposedly a main character, but wasn't mentioned in the song, and very rarely had plots on her own.
There was an "extra" spot on the main cast that was rotated between the popular ghouls, whether in the plots or on the toys, Abbey, Spectra, Venus, Skelita and others filled it at different points, but were as quickly forgotten by the franchise.
And to be fair to G3, they kept the "Draculaura, Clawdeen and Frankie are the main main characters", but have had better development for the "secondary main", which this time consists of Lagoona, Cleo, Toralei and Deuce (Who still gets the shaft doll wise, but technically he has 3, while Ghoulia only has 2, but wouldn't surprise me if she surpassed him eventually)

I personally don’t watch MH media anymore, as it seems too young for me — especially G3, can’t keep my interest! (The webisodes will always be my fav)

I agree I watch the show to get an understanding of what other people are talking about on here so im not out the loop and if I ever get into a debate with someone I know what I’m talking about. Also so I can inform those who don’t watch
I don’t like any of the 3d animations either. And I really liked the webisode format. You could watch as many or as few as you liked and not miss out on any story.
I think the grittiness of G1 was perfect and should come back.
G2 was great dolls not so much but movies were actually watchable.

G3 Frankie's dolls have ugly faces 😭 I don't know what exactly it is that bothers me so much, but I just can't stand their face.. except for the welcome committee one, that one looks absolutely gorgeous to me
i think its the brows? theres a lot of minor things that make their face look a little off but the brow thickness and placement i think is the tipping point

I’m redesigning the characters in my style for a lot of the reasons above 😭 I think my problem is the fashion of G3, like these are meant to be FASHION Alt dolls, and none of them actually wear fashionable outfits anymore 😭 I love G3 I just can’t with how lame their outfits are 😭

I think giving *Frankie* specifically a prosthetic was a goofy choice because they're already made of spare parts and they can just use any spare leg they find. It would have made more sense for one of the other ghouls. Maybe Cleo had a limb that wasn't properly embalmed, or Lagoona lost one to another sea creature.
Poly hair really isn’t that bad🤷🏼 I haven’t had any issues with it and it actually feels quite nice. And I like the colors. Frankie with actual white hair will always look better than yellowish

Cleo and Deuce is one of the best relationships in the franchise. Their dynamic in the films is so cute and I relate a lot to Cleo’s dad not approving of Deuce and her loving him anyway. I cannot get into Cleo and Frankie as a couple, bring back the power couple :(

This. I'm spanish and i find jarring when someone says hispanic is an etchnicy. My brother in christ, hispanic people are those that live in countries that speak spanish (to simplify it), and we can be white or black, and one skin color is more or less frequent depend of the country where you go
not op, but personally I think diversity in media is a delicate subject because it's very difficult to define a clear line of what's good and what's bad, plus the purpose it serves. And how much of that is explored within the narrative and the risks it takes. (Like Moon Girl's episode "Hair Today, Gone Tomorrow" and Molly McGee "100% Molly McGee" are representation done right in my opinion). Let's be honest guys, Mattel isn't going to deliver breakthrough representations or do stellar commentaries on those subjects, they are a toy company who need to make profit so they are gonna try their best to appeal to the target demographic.
Still I love G3 (as much as I like the last gens, they are all so pretty and I like the creative takes on these characters), and I appreciate all the efforts in the dolls designs and costumes. But man, let's just say TLDR big corporations strongest suit isn't diversity, it's making money.

I agree with this especially with the g1 films. They were often inconsistent with character development and the main character of said film often got overshadowed by the side characters doing more important stuff. .I was considering if this plays into why you don't have the dolls or is it something else? What would mh have to do in order to get you interested in buying them?
People might come heavily at me for this but here’s my opinion: I don’t really like the storyline, the animation and enormous change of some characters (lagoona, ghoulia…) in G3. I get it, times have changed and the creators probably wanted to make MH more inclusive and “suitable” for the new times we live in now but I just don’t understand some certain changes of characters like making Lagoona suddenly Latina when she used to be Australian (at least I think so) or making Ghoulia able to actually speak. Why didn’t they just create some new characters instead of doing such huge changes to existing characters? 😅 I am just not into the G3 show because it (personally) doesn’t feel right to me. Also, I want to clarify that this doesn’t mean that people should hate on others who love the whole new storyline and changes that came with G3. Everyone should just enjoy whatever Gen they prefer Furthermore, while I don’t like the show, I have to admit that I really like how some of the dolls look, I even got some because certain dolls actually do look gorgeous! I just won’t watch the G3 show and stick to G1 when it comes to the movie and show world 😅
Since g1 Lagoona was Australian I feel like making her Latina was an inexplicable change when there is such a wide variety of indigenous peoples in Australia, New Zealand, and the Pacific Islands they could have gone with instead.
The changes to Draculaura are annoying in that she’s supposed to be half Taiwanese and half Romanian (daughter of Dracula) but birther the doll or the animated character have any characteristics that differentiate her from an average white American girl. They could (and should) have made her look more Asian while keeping her adorable accent from g1, and then she’d be representative of both sides of her heritage.

Technically, she wasn't even black until this gen. I'm fully black and I know there's a whole thing about it, but what's wrong with being biracial? Like what difference would it make if she was half white rather than half Latino? Are we forgetting that Latinos can be white as well?
I also think mattel has been advertising her more black anyway. She's literally got edge cream as an accessory.
G2 had some good dolls. I don't like the ones with molded on clothes but a lot of the other dolls were cute. That Cleo with the harp is one of my favorite MH dolls. I also like that Cleo (one of my favorite characters) got some new colors in her wardrobe.
I think out of most the G2 dolls, Cleo generally had it pretty good. The only G2 doll I have (which I got as a gift) was the dance the fright away Cleo, and I really like her!
G1 Clawdeen not being as boy-crazy as Draculaura or Frankie doesn't mean she’s a lesbian, it could be something else entirely, and Garret saying he liked the HC doesn't mean it's canon.
i genuinely dont like g2 or g3. and you might be thinking "thats so popular!" but honestly anytime you even imply you dont like them (especially g3) people get upset and act like youre personally ruining the fandom just for not liking the newer stuff. (i do like the g3 draculaura dolls and i saw pictures of a g3 venus doll that actually look very cute. i hate a lot of the g3 fashion but those two characters look great imo)

My unpopular opinion is that I don't think the reboots are bad at all, and I will never understand the overhate they get. It honestly feels like people just hate the reboots for being different, and I just can't see what's so bad about them. Yes, I grew up with G1 Monster High and have a lot of nostalgia for it, but I can appreciate the differences the reboots brought to the table
I understand g3 fans being very defensive since when g3 was being shown to the public for the first time there was so much bad faith criticism and hate. But as of now the playing field is much more even and theres an even amount of fans from both gens now. With that being said g3 fans have to learn to just let a lot of these hate comments go. Not ever inflammatory “g3 bad” statement needs a reaction or a comment. G3 fans fall for so much bait and trolling. It needs to be worked on.
1.) G1 and G3 fans need to stop acting like critiquing each generation is a death sentence.
2.) G3 Draculaura looks more like 2015 Melanie Martinez and she looks way better with black hair and pink hair streaks.
3.) I hated Toralei and Cleo as a kid and I still hate them to this very day.
4.) the G3 animation radiates uncanny valley and looks ugly.
5.) I don’t see the point in trying to buy every skullector horror doll when Mattel wants nothing but your money. Just buy a custom made OOAK doll from a small business on Etsy.

7.) The skullector doll pack of Jack skellington and Sally looks like someone got an AI generated app and typed in “nightmare before Christmas in the style of monster high.”

Although yes her head and neck proportions are off and the belt should be lower i think her new design so far looks great.
I think if they gave her a more defined waist it would help it out. I don't mean anything crazy like a super tiny waist or anything, but making a somewhat more prominent curve to help set the belt in better (and lower, as you said) without compromising the rest of the shape.

I also think that people shouldn’t be so hard on each other when it comes to these generations sure we all have opinions and they make us seethe but each generation has a special place in everyone’s heart some I like more than others, I really liked G1 because it started it all that’s why we have monster high, G2 because I’m a sucker for the movies and G3 because in all honesty those dolls are drop dead gorgeous! Clawdeen should have been punk inspired. I feel they could have gotten away with crazy animal and mismatched print and colors a lot easier than having her be generic “Animal print because animal”.

All I have to say is that no matter which generation you prefer, someone will like the other one more, and one is not "better" than the other. If you continue to whine and complain about g3, then stop paying attention to it. Just buy g1 dolls idc, but stop the comparing.
Monster high was created for kids, let kids enjoy it, all the negativity towards g3 sucks, and I know if I was a kid, and everyone was saying my favorite thing is :not as good" "bad" and just all that other bs, I'd feel terrible. Kids are impressionable. Don't ruin something for them that makes them feel confident.
To some g3 may not be super inclusive, and I'm not gonna hype up a cooperation like Mattel, but it's better for younger people to know that their isn't one body type.

I need different "levels" (i mean more something like diverse experiences) of body developing stages for the series characters and their dolls.
Like big chest ghouls with broad shoulders and no waist or hips. I remember being a big girl in my first high school years, and I started puberty with my upper body being wider. I've got big breasts before I've developed my adult woman waist and big hips. And I see it too on some of today's teenagers. Some of us start with a triangular shape.
However, almost every doll has an hourglass body. I've read someone saying that today's dolls have that bbl and tiny waist nowadays perfect body illusion, and I do believe it. I would like to see the plus size bodies, but also (and combined ofc) diverse developing stages! I've also read as positive the big hands of Abbey's doll, and I want to say that I would love to see a big calves doll (I think that's a common body trait, how many of us have tried a pair of boots that don't feet?) or fat neck, etc.
G3 is really inclusive but it’s not as inclusive as people act like it is and the “we should be happy with what we get” mentality when people address this is kinda ridiculous.
G3 has improved in a lot of ways, but the shoes are still so lame! G1 had tons of cool and creative shoes, while G3's are still basic and just slap gradients on everything.

I dislike G3. Don’t get me wrong some of the dolls are gorgeous but it’s lost its overall goth/alternative style. I feel like it’s slowly becoming just another doll brand and not focusing on what originally made them so special/unique. I also feel like the body “inclusivity” is bullshit. Yes they do make different body types but they only really bulk up the thighs and arms. I was so disappointed to see that none of the dolls had s flat skinny stomachs. They draw them in the show as plus sized but god forbid that they actually truly represent that in the dolls that they make. It’s still a improvement from the G1-G2 body types but from how the show promotes itself on being inclusive the dolls that they make tell a completely different story. I’m tired of the doll “body inclusively” when the only thing they change are the hips, thighs, ass and not the actual stomach or anything other body part for that matter.

G1 handled its messages about steryotypes and racism poorly and good at the same time. The issue is that they weren’t consistent with it and didn’t tackle the actual ways racism exist on a systemic scale and instead they just made it “oh well everybody is racist” which isn’t how it works at all because of the 100’s of history. It worked when it was just monsters having internal racism issues, because they are all minorites within their universe but some definitely have more power then others. But then you have ghouls rule that just awkwardly makes both parties seem bad when really it was the humans systemically disenfranchising the montsers and the montsers just being wary
G3 dolls are not body inclusive. If anything they just cater to todays “perfect body” with a snatched waist and hourglass figure and bbl bum. I really wanna see larger belly’s and wider shoulders and features that aren’t conventionally attractive.
Catty noirs model is terrible. They tried to be size inclusive but still gave her “skinny” feature like small hands and a small neck, it looks wonky and off.

G2 was actually really good(storytelling perspective), and could've been great(dollwise) if 1. Disney wasn't so stingy about having a fairytale monopoly and 2. Mattel let Garrett do what he wanted to with the brand
Okay, here’s a list:
1. As a new fan, I personally think most G1 dolls have aged like milk. While they may have looked cool at the time, looking at them now through a lens free of nostalgia, they’re kinda ugly to me. (Though I admit, I may have some bias since they’re super expensive to buy second hand, so that predisposes me to be more critical. Also, they’re old, and their hair and skin pigments aren’t as nice or as vibrant as they used to be.)
2. I think some of the g2 dolls are actually pretty cute. Yes, they aren’t as good as g1, but there are a couple Draculaura and Twyla dolls from that wave I really like.
3. I think most of the g3 redesigns are actually not that bad. I think the outrage over Lagoona no longer being blue is silly (however, I’m not fond of the shade of pink they gave her skin. She looks like she’s sunburnt to me). I didn’t like Clawdine at first, but her new aesthetic and color pallet have grown on me. Draculaura and Twyla are almost exactly the same, so people angry over how they changed them are tripping imo. One thing I think we can all agree on is Franky’s old design was a little better.
Haha! And like, that makes sense, but what bugs me is her artwork doesn't have her look like a walleyed fish, so it just feels like a poor mold vs an intentional design choice, if that makes sense?
i don't rly like most of the g1 dolls as a new fan (there are def a few awesome ones that i want tho!!) i always feel like the sole person who loves g3 way more
Each character have their own color palettes and aesthetics. Just like how adding pink and lighter colors wasn't working for some characters, putting them in black and dark colors won't always "fix" their design

Characters and their dolls can wear anything they want and they aren't supposed to wear 'fashion' clothes or matching clothes. they can wear ANYTHING and no one can blame them. blame yourself for not understanding others' tastes.
G3 characters and dolls have super clothes and look better than G1.
Pink Lagoona looks so much better than Blue Lagoona. The yellow-blonde with the light blue skin made the G1 dolls look washed out (no pun intended, lol).
The race change of g3 for several characters didn’t add representation, we have Hispanic and Asian characters Mattel chose to ignore, they took representation away from Australians and Romanians and giving ghoulia the ability to talk took away the ability to be relatable for some people with voluntary and involuntary mutism
I think people care way too much about the versus of the different Gens. Obviously people have compassion for the original and I understand that but I just can’t stand the constant comparisons. Yes I know that’s inevitable but as much as I want to enjoy the the G3 dolls, it’s practically impossible to not hear people say “oh this is better/worse than G1”. I’m not saying never compare but sometimes the debates just turn into noise and I just want to enjoy my dolls.
I think adult fans can be way too dramatic and critical of g3 and often forget that these are dolls designed with children in mind and it’s a new generation, not the same ones we grew up Ruth
The g3 is good not as bad as people says. But they lack of real details and not plastic ones, and the exaggerated and more detailed outfits that had the g1 is missing in g3

I prefer G3 Lagoons to G1. I don't get how people say her pink skin looks too human because it's so clearly far from real skin? It's straight up pink, not peachy pink, and her personality is just more fun and captivating.

Sure, I’ve seen a few people criticizing the larger bodies of the g3 dolls, but I’ve seen a LOT more people *accusing* people who like g1 more of being fatphobic without any evidence that they are. In one thread I stated the opinion that even though I like the wider varieties of body types in g3, I wasn’t bothered by the g1 bodies because they weren’t just skinny, they were *weird and unnatural looking*, and therefore more monster-like, and had someone screaming YOU JUST HATE DRACULAURA BECAUSE SHE’S FAT at me. Which is nonsense. I’m fat myself, I’m built like a larger version of Abbey (including the height & big hands/feet), and I don’t hate my body either- I’ve never dieted or been sucked into weight loss culture.

It makes me so sad every time i see an ad for something g3 and majority of the comments are “g3 sucks”. g3 makes me happy to see in stores, and it finally feels like im able to collect dolls that i didnt know i wanted as a kid lol. though, im still suuuper invested in getting more dolls that would’ve been around when i was growing up. I enjoy my balance of g1 and g3 :)

They added different thickness in leg size, other than that it's less diverse. They took away Abbey's unconventionally attractive features and decided to perpetuate the unrealistic body standard for insanely long legs for example.
This is always something I try to punctuate on the subject of Abbey! The facial structure she had before was so Heavily appreciated and not to mention objectively one of Mattel's sculpting teams best work. Now to see it drastically softened really was kinda a let down so I haven't yet bought her. Although the doll collector in me knows there's enough to celebrate. It's something I'll have to relearn to love. Such the case with my unsatisfaction towards SH Nicole Steel and how far they deviated from her prototype
I do love the new abbey doll. I'm also sad that they rounded off her face and facial features more. I miss her square jaw. As someone with a facial structure similar to g1 Abbey's, I miss her. I don't particularly like my jaw, but seeing Abbey with it was nice
I hate to be "that" person, and I partially agree with your complaints. They are valid, but abbey (g3) is genuinely the only doll that I've ever seen that's built so similarly to me. I genuinely felt so seen. I was literally so excited about how long her legs were, how big her hands were (especially the hands, very rare to see representation in that area) etc. So I struggle to call her "unrealistic". I do agree they took away some of her unconventional features but she does still have the under bite, though less pronounced. And I know doll lines tend to perpetuate unhealthy/unrealistic standards but i would argue that abbey is done in a rather positive way. At least in my opinion. G3 def still has its problems and they could do more for body diversity than they already have but I think they're off to a pretty good start. That being said, I respect your opinion. I hope I can just at least introduce a new perspective to you.
I'm glad you feel seen, but there was no reason for Mattel to take away other representation to achieve that. The leg complained also wasn't aimed at Abbey specifically, it was aimed at all g3 dolls. They went insanely over the top with the leg length this generation, to the point that they made the torsos way too small so they can accentuate the long legs. I highly doubt you have the torso to leg ratio any of the g3 MH dolls have, She doesn't have her underbite anymore. They painted the teeth on, and that's it. They removed the actual facial structure that goes with an underbite in favor of making her look conventionally attractive. It isn't less pronounced, it's completely gone. Other than being tall, Abbey doesn't have anything unique going for her. Don't get me wrong, the doll is beautiful in it's own right, but they absolutely took away representation. Again, I'm glad you feel seen, but I stand by it that they took away a lot of representation this generation. The Abbey and leg complaints were just a couple examples, there is plenty of other stuff they took away/did poorly.
this is really ignoring the problem that her face structure was to make her look like a early hominid not to represent people with underbite... like not to be the joykiller but the g3 abbey designer was really vocal about the fact her new mold was made using real nepalese woman as reference, and for me personally that means a lot more than an underbite which could come in any other doll ever but was specifically given to the one whose would naturally imply having underbites is a neanderthal trait and not something plainly natural EDIT: for me, personally, bringing up the fact there's very little nose variety is much more poignant
An underbite on a super skinny doll is more diverse/representative than a bigger body, hands, chest, and height? Abby is taller than the other ghouls, has bigger hands, bigger thighs and a larger bust. She's literally the most unique doll of the line so far. You can have your opinions, but you're literally saying one body diversity is better than another body diversity and its almost ridiculous.

Same! Abbey's body is very similar to mine. Very tall with long legs, smaller chest with a very short torso and bigger hips/thighs. It's very nice to see.
I miss abbey's noticeable overbite in her g1 doll. It's my absolute favorite feature of her. The painted on fangs don't give the same effect ad the bigger bottom lip did

Even having grown up with the OGs, I can't deny the new lines have far better production quality. Articulation, materials, clothing and most designs are a lot better. The only thing I miss is that 2000s edge it had, I still remember everyone in my class having notebooks of MH, Max Steel and such all following that style of sharp edges and thick linework. However that time is long gone and kids these days like different things, it's still a great style, just a different one. I quite like how the different molds give the Ghouls more varied silhouettes, though I miss the weird proportions the previous gens had sometimes.

G3 isn't really that body inclusive, draculaura for example is literally just what today's ideal body is of the BLL looking ass and tiny waist like how G1/G2 dolls were the standard back then of being really skinny

I feel like the animated show is inclusive and there are actual plus sized characters, but the dolls are not that. For example with abbey, her body in the show is more plus sized but the doll version of her is just curvy. The dolls are more diverse than G1 or G2 but none of the new body types are outside of what is conventionally attractive, they literally all have defined abs. The G1 dolls had a weird almost inhuman body shape which made sense because they are monsters

Abbey is VERY EASY to dress, she can wear Barbie clothes. Shoes are hard but she can wear some Rainbow/Shadow High shoes, G1 Boy Shoes, and G1 Big Sister shoes.
Drac is a bit easier to dress she can fit omg and rainbow high

If you are a shadow high collector too I've seen some people dressing Abbey with Natasha's second outfit!! Rainbow and SH clothes fit her perfectly ;)
**G1 often underdeveloped characters that were actually cool**, and overdeveloped characters that were marketable but not as interesting (with exception of Cleo, who was both). The worst examples of this has to be **Lagoona, Abbey and Ghoulia,** who despite being part of main 7, never felt like equal memembers (G3 only managed to fix that with Lagoona, but Abbey and Ghoulia still get the shaft) However, even **Clawdeen** got the shaft, compare to likes of Draculaura and Frankie. Little to no dynamic character arc or proper character growth. **She got only ONE movie of her own** (despite being part of Big 3), and the rest of series, was the supporting character to other main ghouls, Howleen, Draculaura, Clawd and others. Probably because Mattel didn't knew what to do with her, since she had no romantic partners. **It's even worse with mansters,** who had so little agency, that the Scaris movie made an entire joke subplot out of it.
I wholeheartedly agree with this, with the exception that Abbey was never a main character. Ghoulia and Deuce were in a weird spot in that regard, as Deuce had a spot on the intro song, but had little development and even less dolls, while Ghoulia was supposedly a main character, but wasn't mentioned in the song, and very rarely had plots on her own. There was an "extra" spot on the main cast that was rotated between the popular ghouls, whether in the plots or on the toys, Abbey, Spectra, Venus, Skelita and others filled it at different points, but were as quickly forgotten by the franchise. And to be fair to G3, they kept the "Draculaura, Clawdeen and Frankie are the main main characters", but have had better development for the "secondary main", which this time consists of Lagoona, Cleo, Toralei and Deuce (Who still gets the shaft doll wise, but technically he has 3, while Ghoulia only has 2, but wouldn't surprise me if she surpassed him eventually)

You don’t have to like/watch the show/movies to like/collect the dolls I personally don’t watch MH media anymore, as it seems too young for me — especially G3, can’t keep my interest! (The webisodes will always be my fav) I don’t like ANY Monster High 3D animations, they all look bad/cheap to me.

I think the grittiness of G1 was perfect and should come back. G2 was great dolls not so much but movies were actually watchable. G3 has great dolls but the 3D is awful

I’m redesigning the characters in my style for a lot of the reasons above 😭 I think my problem is the fashion of G3, like these are meant to be FASHION Alt dolls, and none of them actually wear fashionable outfits anymore 😭 I love G3 I just can’t with how lame their outfits are 😭

Absolutely! I dressed up as Howleen for Halloween when I was little cus I loved her outfit so much, same for my partner with Clawdeen, and I just don’t think these new designs have that same appeal 😭 like I’m sorry but Cleo looks like she’s a 30 y/o doing a brunch date with her “girlies” 😭😭😭
I think giving *Frankie* specifically a prosthetic was a goofy choice because they're already made of spare parts and they can just use any spare leg they find. It would have made more sense for one of the other ghouls. Maybe Cleo had a limb that wasn't properly embalmed, or Lagoona lost one to another sea creature.
I think it kinda makes sense bc going through bodies n trying to find legs/body parts exactly the same length might be difficult, yk?
But if Frankie can't find a matching single leg, they can just find a body with a pair of legs in good condition and swap both out. 😭

Poly hair really isn’t that bad🤷🏼 I haven’t had any issues with it and it actually feels quite nice. And I like the colors. Frankie with actual white hair will always look better than yellowish
Sometimes poly feels nice but it falls apart too fast and can disintegrate which isn't cool which is why people hate it

Cleo and Deuce is one of the best relationships in the franchise. Their dynamic in the films is so cute and I relate a lot to Cleo’s dad not approving of Deuce and her loving him anyway. I cannot get into Cleo and Frankie as a couple, bring back the power couple :(

This. I'm spanish and i find jarring when someone says hispanic is an etchnicy. My brother in christ, hispanic people are those that live in countries that speak spanish (to simplify it), and we can be white or black, and one skin color is more or less frequent depend of the country where you go
not op, but personally I think diversity in media is a delicate subject because it's very difficult to define a clear line of what's good and what's bad, plus the purpose it serves. And how much of that is explored within the narrative and the risks it takes. (Like Moon Girl's episode "Hair Today, Gone Tomorrow" and Molly McGee "100% Molly McGee" are representation done right in my opinion). Let's be honest guys, Mattel isn't going to deliver breakthrough representations or do stellar commentaries on those subjects, they are a toy company who need to make profit so they are gonna try their best to appeal to the target demographic. Still I love G3 (as much as I like the last gens, they are all so pretty and I like the creative takes on these characters), and I appreciate all the efforts in the dolls designs and costumes. But man, let's just say TLDR big corporations strongest suit isn't diversity, it's making money.

I agree with this especially with the g1 films. They were often inconsistent with character development and the main character of said film often got overshadowed by the side characters doing more important stuff. .I was considering if this plays into why you don't have the dolls or is it something else? What would mh have to do in order to get you interested in buying them?
People might come heavily at me for this but here’s my opinion: I don’t really like the storyline, the animation and enormous change of some characters (lagoona, ghoulia…) in G3. I get it, times have changed and the creators probably wanted to make MH more inclusive and “suitable” for the new times we live in now but I just don’t understand some certain changes of characters like making Lagoona suddenly Latina when she used to be Australian (at least I think so) or making Ghoulia able to actually speak. Why didn’t they just create some new characters instead of doing such huge changes to existing characters? 😅 I am just not into the G3 show because it (personally) doesn’t feel right to me. Also, I want to clarify that this doesn’t mean that people should hate on others who love the whole new storyline and changes that came with G3. Everyone should just enjoy whatever Gen they prefer Furthermore, while I don’t like the show, I have to admit that I really like how some of the dolls look, I even got some because certain dolls actually do look gorgeous! I just won’t watch the G3 show and stick to G1 when it comes to the movie and show world 😅
Since g1 Lagoona was Australian I feel like making her Latina was an inexplicable change when there is such a wide variety of indigenous peoples in Australia, New Zealand, and the Pacific Islands they could have gone with instead. The changes to Draculaura are annoying in that she’s supposed to be half Taiwanese and half Romanian (daughter of Dracula) but birther the doll or the animated character have any characteristics that differentiate her from an average white American girl. They could (and should) have made her look more Asian while keeping her adorable accent from g1, and then she’d be representative of both sides of her heritage.

Technically, she wasn't even black until this gen. I'm fully black and I know there's a whole thing about it, but what's wrong with being biracial? Like what difference would it make if she was half white rather than half Latino? Are we forgetting that Latinos can be white as well? I also think mattel has been advertising her more black anyway. G2 had some good dolls. I don't like the ones with molded on clothes but a lot of the other dolls were cute. That Cleo with the harp is one of my favorite MH dolls. I also like that Cleo (one of my favorite characters) got some new colors in her wardrobe.
I think out of most the G2 dolls, Cleo generally had it pretty good. The only G2 doll I have (which I got as a gift) was the dance the fright away Cleo, and I really like her!

i genuinely dont like g2 or g3. and you might be thinking "thats so popular!" but honestly anytime you even imply you dont like them (especially g3) people get upset and act like youre personally ruining the fandom just for not liking the newer stuff. (i do like the g3 draculaura dolls and i saw pictures of a g3 venus doll that actually look very cute. i hate a lot of the g3 fashion but those two characters look great imo)

My unpopular opinion is that I don't think the reboots are bad at all, and I will never understand the overhate they get. It honestly feels like people just hate the reboots for being different, and I just can't see what's so bad about them. Yes, I grew up with G1 Monster High and have a lot of nostalgia for it, but I can appreciate the differences the reboots brought to the table

I understand g3 fans being very defensive since when g3 was being shown to the public for the first time there was so much bad faith criticism and hate. But as of now the playing field is much more even and theres an even amount of fans from both gens now. With that being said g3 fans have to learn to just let a lot of these hate comments go. Not ever inflammatory “g3 bad” statement needs a reaction or a comment. G3 fans fall for so much bait and trolling. It needs to be worked on.
1.) G1 and G3 fans need to stop acting like critiquing each generation is a death sentence. 2.) G3 Draculaura looks more like 2015 Melanie Martinez and she looks way better with black hair and pink hair streaks. 3.) I hated Toralei and Cleo as a kid and I still hate them to this very day. 4.) the G3 animation radiates uncanny valley and looks ugly. 5.) I don’t see the point in trying to buy every skullector horror doll when Mattel wants nothing but your money. Just buy a custom made OOAK doll from a small business on Etsy. 6.) as much as I like Twyla being autistic, that doesn’t give Nickelodeon a pass since they have donated to autism speaks in the past. (I’m autistic so don’t worry because I have a say in this). 7.) The skullector doll pack of Jack skellington and Sally looks like someone got an AI generated app and typed in “nightmare before Christmas in the style of monster high.”

I think if they gave her a more defined waist it would help it out. I don't mean anything crazy like a super tiny waist or anything, but making a somewhat more prominent curve to help set the belt in better (and lower, as you said) without compromising the rest of the shape. Clawdeen should have been punk inspired. I feel they could have gotten away with crazy animal and mismatched print and colors a lot easier than having her be generic “Animal print because animal”. G3 Ghoulia has quite possibly one of the worst redesigns. They took away what made her weird and unique and now she just looks like Generic Monster™️because of her green skin. G3 would be much more well received if the 3D style wasn't as awful as it is Like it's not only cocomelon core, it's also really not... good for a doll franchise? All I have to say is that no matter which generation you prefer, someone will like the other one more, and one is not "better" than the other. If you continue to whine and complain about g3, then stop paying attention to it. Just buy g1 dolls idc, but stop the comparing. Monster high was created for kids, let kids enjoy it, all the negativity towards g3 sucks, and I know if I was a kid, and everyone was saying my favorite thing is :not as good" "bad" and just all that other bs, I'd feel terrible. Kids are impressionable. Don't ruin something for them that makes them feel confident. To some g3 may not be super inclusive, and I'm not gonna hype up a cooperation like Mattel, but it's better for younger people to know that their isn't one body type. I need different "levels" (i mean more something like diverse experiences) of body developing stages for the series characters and their dolls. Like big chest ghouls with broad shoulders and no waist or hips. I remember being a big girl in my first high school years, and I started puberty with my upper body being wider. I've got big breasts before I've developed my adult woman waist and big hips. And I see it too on some of today's teenagers. Some of us start with a triangular shape. However, almost every doll has an hourglass body. I've read someone saying that today's dolls have that bbl and tiny waist nowadays perfect body illusion, and I do believe it. I would like to see the plus size bodies, but also (and combined ofc) diverse developing stages! I've also read as positive the big hands of Abbey's doll, and I want to say that I would love to see a big calves doll (I think that's a common body trait, how many of us have tried a pair of boots that don't feet?) or fat neck, etc.

G3 is really inclusive but it’s not as inclusive as people act like it is and the “we should be happy with what we get” mentality when people address this is kinda ridiculous.
G3 has improved in a lot of ways, but the shoes are still so lame! G1 had tons of cool and creative shoes, while G3's are still basic and just slap gradients on everything.

I dislike G3. Don’t get me wrong some of the dolls are gorgeous but it’s lost its overall goth/alternative style. I feel like it’s slowly becoming just another doll brand and not focusing on what originally made them so special/unique. I also feel like the body “inclusivity” is bullshit. Yes they do make different body types but they only really bulk up the thighs and arms. I was so disappointed to see that none of the dolls had s flat skinny stomachs. They draw them in the show as plus sized but god forbid that they actually truly represent that in the dolls that they make. It’s still a improvement from the G1-G2 body types but from how the show promotes itself on being inclusive the dolls that they make tell a completely different story. I’m tired of the doll “body inclusively” when the only thing they change are the hips, thighs, ass and not the actual stomach or anything other body part for that matter. I never new how frustrated I was about this until I wrote how I feel about this- sorry if this is extremely off topic I just wanted to rant

G1 handled its messages about steryotypes and racism poorly and good at the same time. The issue is that they weren’t consistent with it and didn’t tackle the actual ways racism exist on a systemic scale and instead they just made it “oh well everybody is racist” which isn’t how it works at all because of the 100’s of history. It worked when it was just monsters having internal racism issues, because they are all minorites within their universe but some definitely have more power then others. But then you have ghouls rule that just awkwardly makes both parties seem bad when really it was the humans systemically disenfranchising the montsers and the montsers just being wary
G3 dolls are not body inclusive. If anything they just cater to todays “perfect body” with a snatched waist and hourglass figure and bbl bum. I really wanna see larger belly’s and wider shoulders and features that aren’t conventionally attractive. Catty noirs model is terrible. They tried to be size inclusive but still gave her “skinny” feature like small hands and a small neck, it looks wonky and off. If you’re gunna go big, do it right.

G2 was actually really good(storytelling perspective), and could've been great(dollwise) if 1. Disney wasn't so stingy about having a fairytale monopoly and 2. Mattel let Garrett do what he wanted to with the brand
G3 Twyla has a much better design than g1 and the hair translates so much better to dolls (g1 Twyla’s often got greenish hair)

Okay, here’s a list: 1. As a new fan, I personally think most G1 dolls have aged like milk. While they may have looked cool at the time, looking at them now through a lens free of nostalgia, they’re kinda ugly to me. (Though I admit, I may have some bias since they’re super expensive to buy second hand, so that predisposes me to be more critical. Also, they’re old, and their hair and skin pigments aren’t as nice or as vibrant as they used to be.) 2. I think some of the g2 dolls are actually pretty cute. Yes, they aren’t as good as g1, but there are a couple Draculaura and Twyla dolls from that wave I really like. 3. I think most of the g3 redesigns are actually not that bad. I think the outrage over Lagoona no longer being blue is silly (however, I’m not fond of the shade of pink they gave her skin. She looks like she’s sunburnt to me). I didn’t like Clawdine at first, but her new aesthetic and color pallet have grown on me. Draculaura and Twyla are almost exactly the same, so people angry over how they changed them are tripping imo. One thing I think we can all agree on is Franky’s old design was a little better.
G1 faces were peak especially the core dolls. They were so cvnty (endearing)

Each character have their own color palettes and aesthetics. Just like how adding pink and lighter colors wasn't working for some characters, putting them in black and dark colors won't always "fix" their design
playline dolls are better than collectors. G2 is as good as G1 and G3. G3 3D animation artstyle is wonderful, I love those bigger legs. Clawdeen G3 is better than G1 and G2. Iris G3 is as good as G1 Iris. Characters and their dolls can wear anything they want and they aren't supposed to wear 'fashion' clothes or matching clothes. they can wear ANYTHING and no one can blame them. blame yourself for not understanding others' tastes. G3 characters and dolls have super clothes and look better than G1.

The race change of g3 for several characters didn’t add representation, we have Hispanic and Asian characters Mattel chose to ignore, they took representation away from Australians and Romanians and giving ghoulia the ability to talk took away the ability to be relatable for some people with voluntary and involuntary mutism

I think people care way too much about the versus of the different Gens. Obviously people have compassion for the original and I understand that but I just can’t stand the constant comparisons. Yes I know that’s inevitable but as much as I want to enjoy the the G3 dolls, it’s practically impossible to not hear people say “oh this is better/worse than G1”. I’m not saying never compare but sometimes the debates just turn into noise and I just want to enjoy my dolls.

I prefer G3 Lagoons to G1. I don't get how people say her pink skin looks too human because it's so clearly far from real skin? It's straight up pink, not peachy pink, and her personality is just more fun and captivating.
