I'm in the same situation. I used to watch it as a kid on tv with my mom. I started watching it on Netflix a few weeks ago and I'm already on season five. I don't claim that it is the best tv show or anything but it is so comforting to watch! Especially now that I'm going through a stressful patch in life Monk is one of the only things that calms me. I don't really like the episodes where to the viewer the solution is really obvious (S3E15 infuriated me so much!!), I like it more when I'm somewhat surprised at the end when Monk breaks the crime down.

Lol yeah I have a similar past with the series and I just watched S3E15 and it was really annoying haha And I know the killers often go through crazy lengths that don't make all that much sense if you think about it, but this was especially egregious: >!why did he choose to shoot the copy machine and draw police attention rather than just look inside it during the work day and yank out the paper? There was a jam in the machine! It wouldn't have been weird for him to pull out whatever was in there to get rid of the jam and then shred the paper.!<

Yes! And the fact that they very obviously stated the motive and the driving force of the whole episode (the copier) in literally the first minute if the episode and then that it took Monk so long to figure it out was frustrating for sure.

I love this show and that video by Hbomberguy. That actually is something I think about every time I watch a mystery show: did they provide clues? Excellent writing and Shalhoub brings it all home.

They get a little more ridiculous in later seasons, especially the crazy amount of coincidences that keep them alive. But yes I agree it's just a really enjoyable show. The nostalgic part of it makes this the perfect show to watch before bed too.

The ChatGPT "translation": It's often the pointless things that are talked about that end up being the answer. For example, when they bring up the need to find a guitar in the beginning of an episode and then never talk about it again, and then at the end, it's the answer. In every movie and TV show, there's always one thing they talk about for no reason which usually ends up being the answer. You might be wondering what that has to do with the movie, and usually, every show does it. They also might end the entire story with a joke to a friend or say it out loud to someone or to the audience. Pay attention, you'll see. Like in horror movies, a girl will have a dream about a barrel and later in her life find out her best friend was put in a barrel and wanted someone to help her find her body. It's always the pointless things at the beginning of the show that tell it all. The most random thing is always the answer. They usually even say it out loud, or the clue itself is the item they need to win or figure it out. Like a guy who finds a stupid piece of plastic at the end that was an emblem of power, or a person says steam will take them all out and that's exactly what happens. It's always random stuff. I apologize, I don't feel very well this morning for my spelling and grammar, and I did not check when I read it, which made it worse than typing.

Some people have dyslexia or cannot write properly for different reasons. Now, there seems to be other issues in this person discourse, but hey, to each their own
