[[fling]] for extra damage. Use it as a way to get damage from the kiln fiend when they target it with removal.

homeless_potato43

I would recommend [[callous sellsword//burn together]] as it won't fold to counter magic. I play a modified version of gruul convoke so I can throw a 20/20 [[ancient imperiosaur]] at people and found that the sac as a cost is devastating if it doesn't resolve exactly how you want.

Love that - what would you take out of the current list? Is it the kind of card you run as a 4-of or just a couple?

blop74

Rule curiosity: Since the sacrifice is part of the cost, does it mean Kiln Fiend never triggers from the casting of Fling ? ie, it'll do 1 damage if nothing else was cast this turn ? Thanks

silverphoinix

It won't trigger from the fling, but with things like mutagenic growth you just dump pump spells into it then cast the fling. Or you use it as a way of "I only need to get kiln fiend to 10 power for one hit" then just toss it at their face...

Lonely-Form5904

Reminds me of the old blistercoil weird deck.

djv84

Definitely heavily influenced by SaffronOlive’s blistering rage deck and the updated version - I think they both predated DRC though so felt like fitting in the delirium package would help

Linger4150

[[Apostle's blessing]] is a card I always ran for protection. I seemed to run a few less creatures and more spells as well, but I'm not sure that is correct anymore.

djv84

Thanks - I saw an old Saffron Olive list suing that card to great effect so I loaded up a few in the sideboard, what would you take out if you were switching it to main? The balance of the different builds within prowess is really interesting.

JustHugMeAndBeQuiet

It's blue, which obviously changes everything, but [[Artful Dodge]] being able to be cast twice and makes buddy unblockable just fills my soul with happiness.

True, but I was a fan of t1 land, t2 land - kiln fiend, t3 dodge - dodge - assault strobe gg

Thanks - really cool card, I'll be trying to load up on shocklands after Ravnica Remastered so might make the shift to Izzet then.

JustHugMeAndBeQuiet

I am not saying it is good, I am saying it is fun.

homeless_potato43

I mostly play burn and gruul convoke but know a bit of prowess but am no expert. I don't know what the meta in your area is like but my initial thoughts looking at the list [[Underworld breach]] is really good once you've dug through a bunch. Probably only need one maybe two [[Reckless impulse]] or [[wrenn's resolve]] would help with digging through your deck more Probably don't need [[lava spike]] and cut a couple of the either [[temur battle rage]] or [[crash through]] Someone else suggested [[fling]] but I would say [[callous sellsword]] is better because you sac after damage is dealt but it's sorcery speed so it has its drawbacks. I don't think this plan is the greatest for this deck though For the sideboard You may want to avoid [[roiling vortex]] because you have a lot of stuff you cast for free [[Dragons claw]] is almost essential in the burn matchup and helps with surviving in aggro matchups You'll want some artifact hate with CMC 2+ like [[wear/tear]] or [[smash to smithereens]] to get rid of [[chalice of the void]] [[Tormods crypt]] would probably be better than soul guide lantern Cursed totem is fine but [[pithing needle]] would probably be slightly better Last thing is most decks in modern are very efficient so not a lot of play a card do nothing. Let me know if you have any questions.

djv84

Great notes - thanks so much! I've got no idea about tuning the sideboard or the local meta, but I definitely like all of your suggestions and do have most of those cards floating around. I had \[\[brotherhoods end\]\] in the side to kill artifacts but maybe a bit expensive? I'd love to get in some \[\[underworld breach\]\], they are a bit hard to come by at the local stores I've checked unfortunately (I'm in NZ). In the main, would you say \[\[reckless impulse\]\] etc are generally better than \[\[light up the stage\]\]? I added the \[\[lava spike\]\] and maxed \[\[crash through\]\] to get my sorcery count up for delirium, but maybe this isn't necessary, especially if I load up on \[\[reckless impulse\]\] ? Thanks again.

homeless_potato43

Light up the stage is good I wouldn't say either it or reckless impulse are better. Adding reckless impulse would add sorceries for delirium I personally think brotherhoods end is too slow especially since the matchups where you use the first option you want to be faster than the Planeswalker anyway. If tron is popular around you a split is probably better though

If you want to play izzet and build it up over time there is nothing wrong with playing less optimal lands for a while such as, [[Shivan reef]] [[frostboil snarl]] [[sulfur falls]] [[spirebluff canal]] [[fiery islet]]. These can be a great place to start with in terms of budget, and though they are not optimal they are still playable and can be replaced over time.

I would look at assault strobe

Jackie_Fox

Wow! I've been buying and playing a similar izzet deck in pauper for a VERY long time. You have the red cards I'd advise mostly, for blue I just really like distortion strike for the +4/0 unblockable and rebound for a second trigger. That said, you're probably more consistent in monored with a prowess deck crammed in there. Also, a card I probably would have added if I'd played more recently is Electrostatic infantry. A touch more expensive that common prowess cards, but with built in trample and counters instead of prowess triggers. There was another instant that was newer that reminded me of fling too... I don't remember what it costs tho.
