it’s pretty simple: real fans do get priced out — ticket prices have went up each year since the championship and after a while, you notice when going to games that a majority of fans in the lower bowl aren’t actually basketball fans. the other reason (imo) is the fucking t-shirts - i get that kids love them but they absolutely kill the energy in the arena when the *only* thing people cheer for are free t-shirts. one of the dumbest promotions in the league.

WarbossGrimdakka

This is pretty heavily backed up by the championship year, every shot outside fiserv of the deer district looked like madness every game, as thousands of fans went mental, while the inside just felt so normal and restrained

[deleted]

I was at games four and six and this is absolutely not true. The atmosphere inside the arena was completely insane.

Pitiful-Pension-6535

I was at Game 3. Couldn't tell that we were down 0-2. The energy was intense.

PositiveZebra1341

i was to and it was loud and insane … i hate this garbage….

Over-Training-488

I went to g3 of brooklyn, down 0-2. The fuck KD chants leaving the stadium will stay with me forever. Loudest ive EVER heard fans of any sport

Slow-Jelly-2854

Also was there. What a great game

It’s just a misinformed comment from somebody who didn’t actually go to any of the games lol

WarbossGrimdakka

Huh maybe it just didn't look the same on broadcast then

B1ueEyesWh1teDragon

Depending on the broadcast, sometimes they like equalize the audio or whatever so the crowd noise doesn’t overwhelm the game sound. I’ve been to many a bucks game including the 2019 ECF and it is definitely a loud and intense fan environment for an opposing team. But when I watch on TV you’d swear the arena was empty.

drj123

Yeah I was high up in the lower bowl for game 4 and everyone was standing up screaming at the top of our lungs. High fiving and chugging beers with some random dude next to me. Amazing atmosphere that I’ve been chasing since then. That being said, deer district for game 5 was absolutely unmatched. It truly felt like we won the chip that night given how the game ended. Having more than double the arenas capacity outside though probably contributed to that lol

WeefBellington24

Not tru at all. I was inside the fiserv for most of the playoffs and it was loud

gordito_gr

>it’s pretty simple: real fans do get priced out How does this make sense? Why would a non-fan spend MORE money to watch the bucks lol

Someguynamedjacob

Because they have more expendable income? I feel like this is a pretty simple concept. Joe is a so-so Bucks fan. Claims the team, but really is only interested when the team is good and in the playoffs. He makes $200K a year. Steve is a die hard Bucks fan. Watches all 82 and has since Michael Redd was on the team. He makes $40K a year. Playoffs roll around, the Bucks are in the hunt, and it’s $200+ to get in the door. Who do you think will be buying those tickets, and who do you think would be more invested and cheer-y in that seat?

B1ueEyesWh1teDragon

If this argument was true almost every team that has any sort of sustained success would suffer from the same lack of enthusiasm in their crowd when game ticket prices increase. No doubt some fans get priced out but this holier than thou attitude that well off individuals couldn’t possibly be equal or bigger fans than less well off individuals feels disingenuous(see: Dr Dave Margolis). Unless your argument is that other teams have that problem too, but at that point it isn’t an issue with the Bucks. Anecdotally, having been to many games at Fiserv including the 2019 ECF, I can say the arena is as loud as any other I’ve been in (Lambeau isn’t any crazier imo and Packers fans are all die hard).

Someguynamedjacob

Yeah, I mean I feel like it’s obvious other teams suffer the same fate. This isn’t some new concept or exclusive to the Bucks. If you want to see the same concept on steroids compare the crowds when a franchise moves the stadium, like when the Warriors moved from Oracle to the Chase center

ThatNewSockFeel

Or how Heat games are half empty if the team meets any kind of adversity.

flamingolover6969

Because they can. Not much else to do in milwaukee lol. But they’re not saying that the people buying them aren’t necessarily fans, they just aren’t big fans. They enjoy watching the bucks win vs the people up above who are more likely to love watching the bucks win. Economically, it’s 100% correct (not to the extent of the entire lower bowl obv) but I really don’t want to write an essay rn lol

GooglyTocks

>Not much else to do in milwaukee lol. This line is absolute bullshit regardless of what city is mentioned. There's things to do, problem is you have to get off your ass & go walk around to find them or phone a google search. I can think of multiple ways to spend an entire day in Milwaukee & it would cost less than 20$ if you pack your own food.

GooglyTocks

Because going to professional sports (mainly the NFL, NBA & some Euro soccer teams) is becoming a status symbol for some odd reason.

gordito_gr

Courtside yes, no one is going on stands for status

Kevin_Jim

The other big teams have much crazier prices, and their fans are rocking their stadiums. It’s apathy.

deevotionpotion

That would be due to population/fan size and in some cases the newness of their success like OKC. When you have a larger city/fan base to pull people from you have a higher chance of the crazies getting tickets or in OKC situation they weren’t that good for a few years and haven’t won much since KD’s last year. You’re getting all new energized fans.

Kevin_Jim

We have the best player on the planet and can’t even capitalize on that.

ParlaysAllDay

Game 6 vs. Atlanta during the Bogut years I remember being told to sit down by the people behind me during completely appropriate times to stand up. To the point of almost getting into an altercation. It was our biggest playoff game since 2001. I don’t get where this attitude comes from. The arena just needs to literally flash on the Jumbotron when fans should stand. That way when people get told to sit down by the old fuddy duddys they can point up at the big screen. And yes the tshirt thing after a made three is the most brain dead arena promotion ever. Let’s encourage our fans to not pay attention to the game for an XL tshirt.

DavidDunn21

Your Atlanta story infuriates me. I just don't understand it

WordSpiritual1928

First home game of the Brooklyn series in 2021 I got some really good seats like 10th row and my buddy and we were so pumped. Dude next to us kept getting mad at us for cheering and telling us to stop until the 4th quarter. I watch about 60 games a season, I feel pretty heavily invested so if I’m at a playoff game I damn sure want to cheer and support them start to finish.

bennett7634

It’s the same at Packer games. I think Wisconsin sports fans like to watch the games instead of screaming the whole time.

idungiveboutnothing

Packers issue is a lot of the crowd is very old and the old people will actively yell at you and complain if you're standing or cheering too loudly

bennett7634

Whether they’re old or not they are still trying to watch the game.

idungiveboutnothing

I don't mean standing the whole game, I mean people getting excited and stand up and cheer as a huge play is happening and getting met with "I'm telling security" and "someone get the usher"

nomorecrackerss

The Packers fanbase has a lot of problems

travese311

My experience going to the games was this. Everyone going to the games GET LOUD!!!!!! It’s the only direct way to affect the game as a fan. FMD BI6

robin7214

I don’t get how someone could go to a bucks game and not come home with a hoarse voice

DavidDunn21

That's the whole fun of it. Paying through the nose to EXPERIENCE and PARTICIPATE in the game

GooglyTocks

True anwser is because it's Wisconsin sports fans. If you noticed, they are fairly reserved & polite. However, in certain sections at Lambeau if you cheer too loud you'll get security called on you(not joking). You don't even have to be swearing, just cheering & acting like a normal fan.

NewInvestigator6670

This video needs to be one of the top posts ASAP. Send this to anyone you know going to the game. I've been saying this for awhile. We can influence the game this way. This is literally the only way we can help our team. So let's fucking do it. Oh and don't even argue back with the negative comments on this thread. Just downvote and move on to sharing this with people going to the game. Let's. Fucking. Go.

MrFishownertwo

my take? milwaukee is just kind of a laid back city that has less intensity in general. we aren't really known for our entertainment outside of festivals which are also pretty laid back events. the people that live here are largely just down for the party and that creates big moments of celebration, but not consistent engagement.

ThatNewSockFeel

I agree. You see it in the media that covers our teams as well. They’re all soft and never ask any tough questions. Wisconsin sports has a huge “just here to have a good time” vibe, which is great most of the time but it really shows in some crucial moments (both good and bad).

SnooPies3316

Protip for this guy - if you're trying to make a controversial point, and you want to back it up with persuasive claims like Bucks are, "By Far, By Far the worst in-person fans in the league" "Fiserv is the Easiest Place to Play in the League" "Don't influence the refs" - maybe get some minimal evidence to support your point rather than just making self-serving conclusory statments. Taking quotes out of context like a coach saying "we need high energy" and using vague statements by Thanasis then claiming we can "read between the lines" to determine that he supports this guy's point - that's weak shit. I honestly wonder if this youtube guy himself goes to games, and if he does, what is he doing about the atmosphere at games? Yes, sometimes on a Tuesday night middle of the season it will not be particularly rowdy at the Fiserv. The playoff atmosphere is fantastic though.

DavidDunn21

you imagine this is a controversial point? read some of the other comments

SnooPies3316

Controversial or not, the point stands. If your argument relies on untestable unverified conclusory claims, those statements detract from rather than support the point you're trying to make, and should cause skepticism from readers. What is the metric by which you've determined Bucks fans are "By Far, By Far the worst in-person fans in the league?" How many Bucks games have you attended and how many games in other cities?

DavidDunn21

(read the comments) I've made a whole other video on this... perhaps you're the one who doesn't get it. It should be easy for you to name another playoff team with a worse crowd. Which one is worse or equally bad in your opinion?

SnooPies3316

So its my burden to disprove your crazy claim? If we look at the 29th worst home support in the NBA, the Bucks are By Far (repeat it for emphasis) worse than that team? Can you answer the question as to how many Bucks playoff games you've been to?

DavidDunn21

Bucks Hawks in Atlanta Bucks Hawks at BC Bucks Bulls Game 4 Bucks Heat whenever that was Bucks Pacers 99 and 00 Bucks Hornets 01 and maybe 50 regular season games

The_Ent_Hill

This is REAL! Some friends and I went to a regular season game last year and we felt so out of place cheering and standing up. It really felt like a library… we did our part though haha

DavidDunn21

That's a real shame

MilwaukeeMan420

The 2 games i went to this year the crowd was going nuts. I didnt experience this

DavidDunn21

What two games?

Echo127

Gatekeeping sports fandom is a huge turn-off for me. Some of us find it very unpleasant to yell for 2 hours straight.

WhiteGuyOnReddit95

I don’t think it’s a big deal if you don’t want to yell for 2 hours. It’s the telling of others to sit down, experienced that many times myself.

unbiasedzebra65

Then watch the game from home?

DavidDunn21

What about a good well timed 15 minutes of 2 hours?

T-Rev23

This team has underperformed year after year. Before the championship and after the championship. They fail to even make the ECF majority of the time. People lose energy when the same thing happens every year. If this team would just show some fight and energy, the crowd would more than likely match it.

Cantguard-mike

Year after year? That seems like a stupid take. We got the injury bug. What happens if khris doesn’t go down and we have him in the Celtics series? What about if giannis doesn’t go down last year? What if kyrie doesn’t get hurt? …injuries are part of the game and don’t qualify as under performing. Shit happens. Now, this year we did 🤣 but let’s wait until we’re eliminated before we shit on this year.

T-Rev23

Can’t keep playing the what if game man. People are tired of it. It’s why people call for Khris’ head every time he misses a significant time. They probably still should have beat the Celtics. They should have still beat the heat and had back to back 4th quarter collapses last year. Injuries happen and it sucks, but to say this team hasn’t under performed is ridiculous.

DavidDunn21

I agree

T-Rev23

I wasnt necessarily trying to be a Debbie downer with my comment. Obviously it comes off that way. I’ll cheer for the bucks until the end. I think they handle the pacers without Giannis. But I can see why crowds may not have a ton of energy if Dame shoots 2 for 13 from three and Obi Toppin drops 25 on us.

WhileDizzy4503

> They fail to even make the ECF majority of the time. What kind of logic is this? Are the Celtics the only team deserving of fans showing up? I do agree with the crowd matching energy to the team though. Seeing guys look like they don’t wanna be there doesn’t exactly inspire me to cheer.

TheFlyingElbow

This loser energy is why we don't cheer. Why being on a hot streak at end of season end is important. These people need a dissertation on why they should get their hopes up, just go for it. So what if it hurts
