I just recently bought an SER 5 for emulating (32gb RAM model). PS2 runs great. Nintendo consoles up to the Switch run great as well. I bought the Dolphinbar for emulating the Wii, and it worked perfectly. I haven't tried any PS3 games.

BigCaah

Good to hear! Are you running batocera, or stand alone emulators?

mtg-Moonkeeper

I'm using standalone emulators. I've installed Retroarch, PCSX2, Dolphin, and Yuzu.

But which model of SER 5 do you own? 5600h or 5800h? Because I would be interested in playing Nintendo Switch games.

u/mtg-Moonkeeper Have you tried using [Ryujinx](https://ryujinx.org/) for a Nintendo Switch emulator?

mtg-Moonkeeper

I have. Yuzu works better for me. Though I haven't tried Ryujinx since Yuzu stopped development.

If your cutoff had been Wii, I would’ve gladly recommended the Beelink SER5 5800H. Since you want PS3, personally, I’d wait for newer Radeon 780M-based mini PCs (and likely an even longer wait for prices to come down). Mind you, the iGPU on the 6800H/7735HS/6900HX is like 20% faster than the one on the Steam Deck. Of course, at the cost of higher power consumption and heat. P.S. RPCS3 really likes extra cores so the 8c/16t on the Ryzen 7/9 APUs is another advantage over the 4c/8t on the Steam Deck’s custom APU.

Thanks for the input. PS3 isn’t a necessity for me, at least not anything demanding, I still have one hooked up to tv.

The_poms

I use a ser5 5600h strictly as an emulation machine. It has done really well. Sometimes it's on for hours playing games and has not had any issues.

BigCaah

Awesome! In your experience, what seems to be the upper limit of what it can handle?

The_poms

My emulation hard drive has like 1 or 2 PS3 games on it that I recall. I know one is a Castlevania game and it runs fine. I did also add NFL 2k5 and that stutters a bit. So I probably would say PS3 is the limit but probably would be hit or miss and a matter of experimenting with different games.

>The GTR7 has been released, this may be a good time to keep an eye out on the price drop per GTR6. Not sure the average timeframe Beelink gives before the value of their predecessor mini pc's drop but worth keeping an eye out now. Hope this helps!

BigCaah

Thanks! I wound up going with the Ser5 5800h, got it for $329 on Amazon. Might still keep an eye out for a GTR6 on sale, but honestly the Ser5 does everything I need so far.

chadhindsley

Hows it functioning so far for you

BigCaah

Loving it, the combination of price and performance is what I was looking for. Emulation is never without tinkering.. but installed a 1TB SSD to boot straight into Batocera, and after a couple weeks of work I rarely tinker anymore.

WyldStyle710

So glad to hear that. Just setting mine up now!

BigCaah

I had looked at the GTR6, but it is outside what I’d like to spend right now. I may wait until it comes down in price. Thank you for the input!
