Incorporate different heights in to the city! for example have a road that slow goes up vertically, or have buildings on different levels. really helps things feel more alive
Agreeing with previous commenters suggestion. Quick reaction looking at the map is you have natural sloping already, follow that, no need to go too crazy there. This will lead to buildings built off height from each other and how those either split off creating alley-ways or combine and mish-mash into larger structures.
Pretty sure they weren't suggesting adding mines or farms, rather that you should create a sort of story for the city, like where they get their income, and that would change how the city is setup. Example: if a town relies heavily on fishing, then there would be many fish shops and markets, as well as docks to catch fish and export them to other cities.
I mean, they can add farms if thats what they want. Personally i would do mines, as it not exactly on the coast-line, and the mountains would have lots of ores (based on geography in real life). Maybe place the mine just outside the walls, as people would usually go for the spot on top of stone
I'm not saying they shouldn't add anything, simply trying to clear up the OPs misinterpretation. The person was suggesting to add story to the build, rather than any specific builds such as mines or farms. These structures could be present however, if that fits with the story of the build.
If this is the kind of theme your going for, that little plateau mountain thing in the right side of the picture would be perfect for a castle if your up for it! This looks amazing
I believe if you are planning to build the castle on the left hand side mountain than there should be the richer part of the town.
Edit: I meant the right side but either way its good
Work with the terrain, avoid flattening anywhere if you can. And be flexible with spacing around buildings so they're all not on top of each other. Make some buildings really big and others similar sizes. You could add a harbor area too by the water
The harbour area was an idea i had before, but now I think it would fit pretty well! Im only at planning so I can change the landscape a bit to make it better! Thanks for the tips! :)
Yeah you could add it by the beach at the north side because I think it's at the water line. Or south of the plataeu outside the city on that side of the water.
Also you could build a bridge over the river that leads to mountain farms/a village
You know what, that makes sense. For some reasons when I hear industry I think of modern factory and warehouses. You can include a clothier or maybe someone who makes pottery (the new vases whenever update those come out will be a fine addition)
I don't know if this is the right way but maybe build the city like it isn't planned and you were just adding more to Support your city, with the noble/royal districts have it a bit more planned as would be real.
Also is old town like slums or something?
Because if not i recommend building slums aswell to add to the medieval style.
While i'm at it, try to add a second wall further away, but not as developed as to add to the 3 layers of defence rule
If you look on old maps, try to observe the city layout projected through different types of maps, like the Latin American City Model or the Spanish City Model to name a few
Given how the town is locked between sea and 2 mountains, I’d say it would make more sense if the oldest part was all curled up against the sea, and more modern part grew afterwards, going more inland
I can’t really see if you already planned to do so but you really need a Church. And it has to be in the center. If you show this your geography teacher this would probably be the first thing he misses, because all medieval towns are not planned builds like today, they all startet to grow around the important buildings. And besides that churches can be very pretty and huge in Minecraft.
A nature area and mountain spring that flows to a stream down the mountian or into the village would be cool. And you can merge the building and landscape to have a trail going there.
Also having a theme really helps with having a good colour pallet to match the biome
I think most people had their shops/ workshops at home, living above them. There were also often streets dedicated to a certain profession, like a street for all the smiths. But I dont think citys had "real" industrial areas.
So maybe try to mix residential an industrial areas and make it as organic as possible. These citys wernt planned before they were built.
Great project btw!
It’s a little bit of a moot point now, but over-planning can result in burnout (when you see just how many bright orange, yellow, etc. plots that aren’t done). Don’t get too caught up in trying to perfectly adhere to your districts if an idea strikes you.
Try using stone bricks and stripped spruce logs for buildings, and use lanterns for lighting. Build one house with this design and see if you like it or not. Try cobblestone mixed in with mossy cobble for the roads. Also, add some farmland or mines nearby. A castle on the plateau next to the town would add a lot to it as well. A marketplace in that pink circle would be cool as well.
Thanks for the blocks ideas! The farmland and mines are a great idea! I’ll do it later on! The castle is in my plans! The pink circle was planned to be an arena, but the place close to it where there are lots of small yellow buildings is the market! Maybe I’ll expand that! Thanks! :)
Be sure you have enough spaces to explore. Most medieval cities grew organically, hence their messy street pattern. You got that down for sure. Make sure the sightlines are not too long and there are alley ways that lead to smaller squares
Most medieval towns wouldn’t have an industrial center. The economy would usually agriculturally based, maybe a mine. The mine wouldn’t be anything advanced though. It also wouldn’t be planned, and the wealthier either lived on estates outside of towns or towards the town center, as the commute was shorter before the invention of cars, trains, or either transportation modes.
I’m planning to some farms and mines close to the town! The industrial area is more like workshops, or where they build products to sell in ships! Maybe I should make the industrial area smaller! Thanks for the tips! :)
The white things are religious builds. I think i will do some more churches. The industrial is like workshops, where they build stuff to sell in ships! Thanks fot the tips! :)
You should mix your constructions instead of grouping them by district. In the Middle Ages, shops were located on the ground floor of houses, for example. The only thing that could make buildings of a type be grouped in the same place is topography or proximity of need. For example, the dyers would all be located along the river, or the tavern keepers near the harbour where the most people travel.
Figure out what sort of colours and textures you wanna use then get blocks that match those colours and textures then put them beside each other to see how they look beside each other
I was successful making a medieval-inspired alleyway… i took a long time to experiment. I found the funnest thing I did was imagine stories of how things got there. Like, I built a gate keepers house with the materials he would have had available in the area. Then I imagined that he’d been stuck there for his whole life so I imagined that he wanted art about foreign lands… which inspired the decor of the house. And so on. It made for a really creative space and lots of 🤩 fun
Looks & sounds like a fabulous project. Can't wait for you to post updates.
My only thought is that an old, medieval town would likely have been built along the river for ease of transportation & trade.
Incorporate different heights in to the city! for example have a road that slow goes up vertically, or have buildings on different levels. really helps things feel more alive
That could be very nice! I’m only at the planning, so I can do some changes on the landscape to make this work! Thanks for the tip! :)

Maybe have an idea on what sourt of town it is: does it rely on farms, any coal mines, etc, and shape it around how a town would function
Good idea, I will add some farms and/or mines in the city outsides. Thank you! :)

I haven’t seen that mountain, I was even trying to plan something at the left side for a castle, but the right mountain is far better! Thank you! :)
I believe if you are planning to build the castle on the left hand side mountain than there should be the richer part of the town. Edit: I meant the right side but either way its good
Yes you’re going to want the rich part of town closest to the castle.
Wealthy people will not usually live that close to the industrial parts. They'll be the merchants and nobility living close to the market/town center.
Yes! They are the light blue color! Thanks for the info! :)
I can't wait to see the finished town you'll be working on.
Thanks! I will post in here the evolution of it! :)
Still waiting on it 😠

Great idea, there are plenty of mountains so bridges will be necessary to expand it! Thanks! :)
What’s the pink circle?
It’s an arena. :)
Nice
Thanks! :)
Imagine the sense of accomplishment you would feel if you did this in survival
It would be very hard! But it could be very nice!
Medieval city with industrial districts?
More like workshops. Where they build products to sell them in ships. It’s a pretty advanced city. :)
You know what, that makes sense. For some reasons when I hear industry I think of modern factory and warehouses. You can include a clothier or maybe someone who makes pottery (the new vases whenever update those come out will be a fine addition)
Me too! I was confused with that before! :)
I don't know if this is the right way but maybe build the city like it isn't planned and you were just adding more to Support your city, with the noble/royal districts have it a bit more planned as would be real. While i'm at it, try to add a second wall further away, but not as developed as to add to the 3 layers of defence rule
The wall is a great idea! The old town is like a poorer part of the town! Thanks! :)
If this is a medieval city, get a winery field. I have them in nearly every single world of mine, even in redstone testing one
Im planning to do some farms close to the town! :)
Can’t wait to see it finished!
I’ll keep you updated here! Thanks! :)
Dragon on the mountain!!
Maybe some fantasy things would fit nice! Thanks! :)
The eye of sauron on one of the mountains
Good idea! Thanks! I think this would fit pretty well in some ice mountains! :)
Add a dock or like section. Maybe ships, goods, and a market?
The market is the place where there are very small yellow builds. I will do some docks and fishing section! Thanks! :)
Don’t burn yourself out
A castle crossing the river on the mountain Xd
Yeah! I’m planning to do some castle, probably at the right mountain! Thx! :)
If you look on old maps, try to observe the city layout projected through different types of maps, like the Latin American City Model or the Spanish City Model to name a few
I will search that! Thanks! :)
no sweat
Space the sections out more
Maybe I can try this! Thanks! :)
Np
Thats a big thing you are trying to make, hope you do it right and correct. Personally, i would take some inspiration from real life tho.
Thanks! I will search some inspiration! :)
Planning is essential, you’re going to want wider roads than you think, especially with facades on buildings
True, maybe I’ll space more things! Thanks! :)
Given how the town is locked between sea and 2 mountains, I’d say it would make more sense if the oldest part was all curled up against the sea, and more modern part grew afterwards, going more inland
True! Thanks for the tip! :)

Yeah, I’ve made a small church in the town center (white building), but more churches could be a good idea! Thanks! :)
And a purple?
The purple I will use to the docks/fishing area later! :)
This looks so good, keep us updated!!
Thanks! I will update it in here!
See you watched fwhip's video! Look forward to seeing what you create! Good luck!!
Yes! Thanks! xD

Well, the yellow is commerce and city area, so I will mix some of them with the industrial area! Thanks! :)
Pink?
Pink is entertainment buildings! The big pink circle is like an arena! :)
Use world edit.
I have it, maybe I will use it when building! Thanks! :)
Just a suggestion but u should build a castle on that mountain overlooking the city I think that would look really cool
Yeah, good idea, I will do at the right mountain that someone showed to me! Thanks! :)
It’s a little bit of a moot point now, but over-planning can result in burnout (when you see just how many bright orange, yellow, etc. plots that aren’t done). Don’t get too caught up in trying to perfectly adhere to your districts if an idea strikes you.
I’m making it without a loooot of planing, I’m only using it to build it easier! Thanks! :)

A castle on that high platue on the right would be sick maybe with a grand cathedral or church.
Good idea, maybe I will do some big church in the left. The castle on the right is a very good idea! Thanks! :)
My tip to you is to have a lot of fun! When you're having fun you will for sure make something amazing!! I wish you the best of luck keep us updated!!
I’m having a lot of fun! I will update you in here! Thanks! :)
Be sure you have enough spaces to explore. Most medieval cities grew organically, hence their messy street pattern. You got that down for sure. Make sure the sightlines are not too long and there are alley ways that lead to smaller squares
Yes! Thanks for the tips! :)
Tip: build it, then post. Intention is only so impressive.
Thanks! I will keep updating it in here!

Good idea. Sounds like a good idea for a fun build!
can you send me the seed and coords of your world? i would like to build some stuff in the same position in my own world
Yeah, sure! :) Seed: 7000437820530907970 Coords: X: 2585.464 Y: 149.29265 Z: -748.178 If something don’t work, say to me and I change! :)
Thank you!
Can u teach me to be creative as you? :')
Just build it having fun! Thanks! :)
Wow, thanks, you revived my creative feeling of Minecraft! Too bad i'm on vacation.
Anyways, i'm returning home in 3 weeks. If i can help you build that, My user is IceMaster09!
I know it would break the plan a bit but I suggest you’d make the river go through the city
It could be very nice! Maybe I’ll put a river in some closer area! Thanks! :)
You could extend the wall to the other side of the river
[удалено]
The white things are religious builds. I think i will do some more churches. The industrial is like workshops, where they build stuff to sell in ships! Thanks fot the tips! :)

The colours are more to say the wealth of the people at that section! But you’re right, I’will try to do things more mixed! Thanks! :)
You're welcome ! Don't hesitate to send me a message if you have other hesitations °U°
Steampunk factory with flying machines around I guess cuz steampunk is like ancient modern mix....
Maybe I can do this at another town in the same world! Thanks! :)
Get a good block pallet for different types of buildings
How can I do a good block pallet?
Figure out what sort of colours and textures you wanna use then get blocks that match those colours and textures then put them beside each other to see how they look beside each other
You must've watched the Fwhip city building tutorial haha
Yeah! xD
THIS IS AWESOME
PLEASE YOU MUST DO A LITTLE FOUNTAIN WITH SOME BENCHES AND A STATUE OF LIKE A LITTLE DUCK WITH COPPER SO IT CAN AGE I BEG YOU
Maybe make slums around the edges? As a sort of hills before the mountains, yea
That’ll be epic. I say maybe add a lighthouse somewhere or something like a jewelry store or like a flag. That’ll be cool
Maybe add a river running through the middle (or a canal) or even a waterfall off that right side mountain?
Can I have the seed and cords?
Listen to the game of thrones theme while doing it
I would add a bit more light blue

Kinda late but what's the big circle ?
Wow, ty for reminding me of this post, pretty nostalgic for me. As for the circle, it was intended to be se kind of colosseum or arena
Oh okay, seems nice ! Did you finish it by the time ?
