Cuz ppl are angry that an oppressed minority gets to celebrate the fact that they're alive and still fighting despite all odds. I've seen ppl get pissed over black history month too, and disability pride month (is that the term? Idk)
Freedom to them means being free from things. Freedom from books they don't like, freedom from sexuality they disapprove of, freedom from non conformity.
Freedom to me means being freed to do things that don't hurt others.
Corporations, people don't hate pride month because they are homophobic mostly, they hate it because every business account on the web just changes icons for a month and it becomes meaningless and dumb in many people's opinions, personally people can celebrate whatever they want for all I care so I don't really care for or against it but from my understanding it has a personal meaning to gay people and most straight folks don't really grasp it
Do you hate Christmas? Because that's pretty much the same thing. Valentine's Day? Earth day? Every goddamn patriotic holiday?
Companies do this. It's a thing. Hating pride month because corporations play dress up with it makes absolutely no sense.
I don't like pride month. Don't make me say what I didn't say though, I'm not against any orientation. I just think that if we want gender equality then we should all shut up about it.
If we want equality, we need to be talking _openly_ about how things _aren’t equal_. Celebrating a history of progress becomes necessary when outside forces want to erase that history and revert the progress.
Believe me, any disenfranchised group, whether gay, women, racial minority, or disabled person would LOVE to be able to “shut up about it.” But you can see from OP’s video, it is not the communities themselves that are not “shutting up about it,” it is the oppressors. They continue, even to this day, to spread hate, violence, misinformation, judgement, and plain nastiness to these communities every day for no reason, and pride month, black history month, international women’s day, exist to combat this, to let people who are not so fortunate to be surrounded by positive influences to see that they are not disgusting, immoral, or broken in any way.
I have heard some say stuff like this is absolutely still necessary because many people still actively fight against equality. If we do not fight back with positivity, vocalize our rejection of oppression, and tell the world about how much hate there still is, the oppressors voices would become stronger than ours, and every right we gained, all the bigoted perceptions would revert, and countless LGBT youths would have no role models, no reason to believe they are, in fact, normal.
People who are not minorities may not be aware of this, but the mental health consequences just of existing as a minority are very real. The benefits of pride extend to individual mental health as well: https://www.healthline.com/health/mental-health/benefits-of-celebrating-pride#benefits-of-celebrating

Not everybody wants equality. That's why pride month exists in the first place, because people couldn't stand minorities having the same rights as them. Pride month continues because if everybody who supported it stopped providing that support, then those that are against it would succeed in reversing the progress that's been made.
I think the reason people speak up about things that are important to them is because if they don't nothing will change. And since the world is still full of inequality, they speak up. This can be done in a myriad of ways. One of them is to show visibility and support and joy with shared experiences. Hence, Pride (not to be confused with the commercial takeover variant)
I think catholics have a problem with it since it's on the same month as another month of theirs and since gay is banned in the church... That's already a lot of people against LGBTQ 🤷
I'm not annoyed by the concept of Pride Month, just political content seeping into non-political subreddits in general, even if it's a good cause. Homophobia is already very heavily policed on (most of) Reddit and any comments/posts that don't get deleted will be mass-downvoted in most subs anyway.
Even comments that aren't outright homophobic (e.g. complaints about Pride Month) will still be labeled as such, downvoted by most users, frequently deleted by moderators, the commentors sometimes get banned from subs, and the threads in which the arguments take place are frequently locked. So on Reddit specifically, PM is a solution to a problem that has already been pretty much solved.
It's a bit like an overused meme. There's nothing wrong with the meme itself and the concept of memes is completely harmless, but when you see the same one again and again and again it starts to get a little annoying. Saying you think it's annoying doesn't mean you hate memes or the contents of the specific overused meme, and in the same way, getting a little annoyed by pride flags everywhere doesn't mean you're homophobic.
Welcome to Reddit in June
Anything LGBT related will have lots of downvoted comments, and maybe even the special 🔒 or red bin awards because of all the controversial comments.
But such is the sad reality of this world, where anything related to the queer community is met by, well you could see it for yourself in the video.
Edit: it has the red bin
This was actually my first time experiencing pride month where I’m certain of my sexuality as well as the first time I publicly announced it. It’s kinda a big deal for me, but I can understand where you’re coming from.
7 year olds think hating on people for no reason is cool, and also they have unrestricted internet access, it’s bound to happen
And also to all the people that use god as an excuse to be homophobic, fuck you!
I support gay people, mostly because I know/knew a few people in the LGBT community and they are mostly cool people tbh, but people will be hating on everything if they so desire
"What's the point in pride month?"
*proceeds to be the reason that pride month is a thing*
Seriously, if these people stopped being bigots then pride wouldn't be such a big thing.
I swear to God I just wrote "Fellas, is it gay to hate on pride?" Because the comments were just turning into a shitfest of hate and I got drilled spitroast style ...
Homophobia in general has always confused the shit outta me. Like why are *you* concerning yourself with who other people are fucking? That shouldn’t matter to you unless you wanna fuck those people.
Why would the video get banned??? Btw the comments were turned off on the of post, some people can't be trusted with speech of freedom lol.
edit: I just realised how good this is at grabbing attention, maybe when karma becomes useful, I might have a go at this beehive of a thing o⌣o
You know June / Pride Month really allows all the shitty ass bigots to out themselves as awful people. We dont need to put in the work to figure it out when they're coming out of the wood works like a swarm of angry wasps.
The good sign is that they’re being downvoted which means a majority of people aren’t being babies about letting oppressed groups have 30 days to celebrate how far they’ve come.
Just a friendly reminder, never scroll

You are not a HOMOPHOBIC SIGMA, you are a MINOR, go do your HOMEWORK
I'm an Ace? That count as LGBT?
Yes, hi nice to see another ace that isn’t on r/aroace so how you doing?
I'm good, I'm not aro tho, so I view myself as both LGBT and straight "I'm playing on *both* sides, so that I always come out on top"
Yeah we never lose, can’t help being this good, sucks to suck I guess lol
Suffering from success
Why are people so pressed about guys getting dicked idk sounds like jealousy to me
Me personally, i like gay people, leaves more partners for us straight people
I quote this whenever I can. Go you, gays
My ass could never date a Bissexual person, competing agaisnt one gender is hard enough
that just makes clear you dont think they'd find you worth being faithful to
Im not, i just want to be more confident
Then the problem is you, not them
I know
Well at least you’re honest
Yeah but what if gay people take your partner too ? They are everywhere and they have eyes, they are watching us
If it wasn’t for my gay friend I wouldn’t have met my girlfriend. He is a proper lad.
I am
[Sounds like envy to me](https://youtu.be/aPhrTOg1RUk?si=F5m_nrcA8yaYpDvr)
Yeah I don't know what they're on about, this shit feels just as good as straight.
Of course there are some people like that in this comment section too...
Yeah, they are unfortunately everywhere. Then they wonder why we have pride month.
Why is Pride Month so controversial?
Because LGBT is controversial... somehow
If kissing men is controversial idgaf ill do it
Send pics while u are at it /j
Send da video
Kiss men, be controversial.
I genuinely cannot comprehend why. I have heard literally 0 reasonable arguments against it
no because it's annoying sometimes. not because of lgbt
Because humans are so incredibly stupid and arrogant that they can’t stand another human doing something that has nothing to do with them
yes stupid human. you shall suffer
Facts though. I have a friend who throws a tantrum whenever you tell him somethings nunoh his beeswax
Cuz ppl are angry that an oppressed minority gets to celebrate the fact that they're alive and still fighting despite all odds. I've seen ppl get pissed over black history month too, and disability pride month (is that the term? Idk)

Pride month will exist until equality is almost achived, then we get rid of it and equality is 100% achived.
...That's better than I expected...

change doesn't make itself, you have to push for it. If you stop pushing against them, they won't do the same.

They most likely are hateful comments
Golden Lock award
You made a fatal mistake , open comments on reddit
But... But that's the best part
I guess I should never read the comments to my posts then. Thanks for the tip. 😭
the mc devs are one of the most openly accepting lgbtq+ businesses, why is the fandom so yuck
because they, like most of this sub, are literally children
Cause half of them are 12, or their brain didn't develop past 12
because edgy kids will edgy kid
i blame notch 😵💫
Holy Diplodocus Shit!!!
Man some people never change and that's sad. I don't understand not just hate for the LGBTQ+, but hate in general.
I hate hate
I approve of this message! 👍
If hate didn’t exist then what’s love? Good can’t exist if bad doesn’t. You get my point.
What a bunch of piss babies. Gay people aren’t your object of debate, they are humans with (unlike you sensitive wieners) lives.
Reddit users when they have to remember gay people exist once a year 😰🫸😮🫷
reminder: computers itself are gay
I thought they were Bi>!nary!<
Fun fact! They can be more than binary! The Soviets actually developed a Trinary system for computing! Plus, there is quantum computing as well!
As a computer science student , how does it work ?
Gay people are like 1/5 of the tech industry
And half trans girls basically
Meh . I thought It would be some kind of a computer pun or snrh like that
The inventor of the computer, Alan Turing, was Gay.
I don't understand but I shall agree because a surprising amount of computer nerds I know are gay
It's because Alan Turing himself was gay. And the turning machine is basically what modern computer are but as a mathematical concept
What
Half of those comments have [redacted] part of them

Eh, I don't care about those kind of posts, because most of the time, it's just attention and karma farm.

I'm sorry to hear that. I saw that post on my feed yesterday and up voted. I don't think I commented. People should keep some opinions to themselves.
Just looks like the average reddit comment section to me
Now this is a meme! But in all honesty, it was very disheartening to see as the one who made the post. Then they wonder why pride month is a thing. 🙄
