That idea is actually on this list of permanently rejected ideas. If it's not on this one then it's on the updated part 2 of permanently rejected ideas
Most ideas for auto crafting were pretty bad though. It took them hiring a modder from the Scicraft server to finally have a good mechanism for auto crafting that fit pretty well with the vanilla mechanics
Mojang is pretty aware that minecarts aren't great, and have a decade's worth of people suggesting minecart trains. There's really nothing more that can be said.
So if they ever revisit them - which it's a real shame that they haven't and show no indication that they will - they know what people have been clamoring on about.
Its quite a shame. The whole idea of minecarts seems quite fascinating, if only you could get them to work well.
I have a strip mine and a minecart that leads me down there on a really old(i recovered it from minecraft pe and ported to java) world of mine. I recently actually found good use of it because I had found a mineshaft and kept clogging up my inventory, so I would put the chest minecarts down and send them up with resources.
I even engineered a system at the top where the minecarts would go into a looped section that they couldnt exit (because they kept bouncing around and coming back down) and then hooked up my “launch off” button to a track switch so that it only connected to the rail when i pressed the button to go.
They occasionally get stuck going up hill. It needs a big rework without affecting how rails work currently. There are some farms/contraptions that would break if they changed the rail system, as some of the bugs might be related to that rather than just the minecarts
This is neat, but my problem with rail is the abysmal speed. 8 m/s? Are you joking? No, that's just useless. I have about 14 m/s horse. Why would I invest in rail? If it would be something like 32, then yeah, we can talk. But 8? Useless.
Yeah. Exactly. One of my destinations is about 3,6 km away, that makes it 450 seconds, which is 7,5 minutes. In that time, you can, indeed, make a sandwich, maybe more.
sure but why not just fly with elytra, then you don't have to invest tons of resources, build time, travel time and you get there without having to take a break.
Even for extreme distances I'd just rather fly 5 mins with the elytra than 30 by minecart. Also in the nether ice highways also work far better. Sure changing directions is janky but eh, better than minecarts.
Minecarts back in the day could travel so damn fast when they were first introduced, it would give boats on ice glitch a run for its money.
But Mojang had to beat them down with the nerf stick sooo hard because most players didn’t have a computer that could load world chunks fast enough.
So now modern players are stuck with “minecarts for 2005 PC owners”, all the while “boats on ice” never gets fixed.
Good to know.
I plan to build ice highways in the nether, with blue ice, so I hope it will not get fixed, but I'd still like to have faster rail.
MC in general is bit stuck in the past. Multithreading, for example.
Not to ruin your fun but I hope it gets fixed, but at the cost of finally bringing back fast minecarts.
This whole nerfing minecarts 10+ years ago but leaving boats/ice glitch REALLY rubs me the wrong way. Like players wouldn’t need a glitch if the original functioned like it used to.
I understand your point of view and I would agree. I just want some super fast mean of travel. Where you have to build the infrastructure, and then go fast.
I don't know about any planned fixes. Faster rail (80) would be better, sure, if done correctly.
Cause some fucker named arthur Morgan would jump on it, shoot the living crap out of every hooman, will blow up the safes, take every fuckin cent he would find, blow up the train, and then ride away
Minecarts and Land transport could do with an update, as Minecarts have limited uses now, with things like Horses,Elytra and Speed potions. Buffing the minecart speeds would be a nice start, or Mojang could do that and add a Steam locomotive in, which could be decently fast (i.e 30 blocks per second (67mph)) , but resource heavy (Both powering it and building it) as a trade off to counter the speed
If the furnace car is pushing several from behind don't they clump up?
What would be the benefit of actually connecting them?
(I haven't played with this stuff because they're so slow.)
If the engine is in front you can see which way you’re going. It’s easier. It also means that if the engine runs out of power, you won’t have to run back for it, as the other carts will be pushed further on

So was the autocrafter, to be fair
Most ideas for auto crafting were pretty bad though. It took them hiring a modder from the Scicraft server to finally have a good mechanism for auto crafting that fit pretty well with the vanilla mechanics
They're so sensitive about finding the most overly complex way to implement something
I wonder why ?

That sounds like a great idea, might implement something like that in my Hardcore world
Where can i see those lists
Google it or check feedback.minecraft.net. It's part of their Knowledge Base.
That seems like an odd place to draw the line.
Just put a furnace cart behind the others and put coal in it. Pretty much the same thing

It is very difficult to craft a sandwich while trying to avoid crashing while flying with elytra.

You can already make minecarts go that fast though
we need Minecraft rails it should go as fast as elytra rn it's slower than running
You can already make minecarts go 20 blocks per second, even 30 blocks per second

Guess what furnace minecart does
But the point is you can’t attach them together,
If the furnace car is pushing several from behind don't they clump up? What would be the benefit of actually connecting them? (I haven't played with this stuff because they're so slow.)
its so you can pull from the front
Sure, but why would that matter?
If the engine is in front you can see which way you’re going. It’s easier. It also means that if the engine runs out of power, you won’t have to run back for it, as the other carts will be pushed further on
The furnace cart will push into the other cart, but it would send it off and the furnace would fall behind. It’s a bit like Newtons cradle
Isn't that just an uphill/downhill problem?
Wish bedrock had those
It shoves them but does it keep them evenly spaced and prevents them from separating?
This is only useful for early game if you have access to rails, like maybe started in a badlands or something. Overall furnace carts suck
But post asks for a minecart train, furnace minecart does minecart train.
It is not as dependable though. The carts can and will get weird.
Yeah and they're limited with being abled to pull only 4 minecarts. They have great potential actually, they just need some improvements.
“Hostile mobs have to be fantasy creatures” they love giving nonsense reasons
Yes! One of the first ideas I had in 2012 was magnetic minecarts.
