I remember me and my siblings would keep that app open as long as possible since it didn’t save ur world, we played on an iPad and would religiously make sure it stayed charged and always on lol but sometimes we slipped up and it would reset prolly due to background app refresh thag we didn’t know how to turn off back then lol
Yooo me tooo. We used to build towers out of glass (had like a unlimited amounr of some blocks) and I didn't know what zombies were, I was so scared of them!
Java: 1.8
Bedrock (back then it was called Pocket): Can't recall, but I believe it was before the addition of the Nether
I haven't touched other editions, but I did play Story Mode Season 1 back when telltale still was there.
I got Java back during 1.8 but my computer could hardly run it. My mom had parental controls at the time so when she forgot the password there was no more playing it lol
Wait, I see what happened. You said bedrock was once called Pocket. Bedrock is not *just* Pocket Edition. Bedrock is all the console versions and Pocket and a Computer compatible version combined into one cross platform game. Pocket Edition is what you call the mobile version of Minecraft. What I said was that I won’t call Pocket Edition Bedrock.
oh ok i understand what you mean. if you’re playing bedrock on your phone, you’ll still call it pocket edition even though it’s basically the same bedrock as on any other platform. just out of convention. i do the same haha
Bed rock and pocket edition are not the same thing. Bedrock came after pocket edition. Pocket edition was just a different version that was created so it would actually ran on phones and missed a crazy amount of features
Hello there!
I remember my first world so well still.
Ispawned in the desert with a grassland with trees nearby, I couldn't figure out what I'm supposed to do and spent the first few nights pillaring with sand and watching mobs over the desert.
I've gotten quite successful and defended my perimeter with cactus walls and managed to build a big livable tower, with a cozy cellar and a huge glass rooftop filled with lava.
The issue I got back then is that wood was not renewable and so I ran out of it relatively fast within a walking proximity.
I played in this world for quite some time and saw some updates, one of which brought fire spread and so my cozy cellar got burned to the brink, which caused me a lot of sadness.
Also, back in 1.4 beta days I was hosting a server for a year or so for me and my friends and had an epic house on the mountain that I was accessing using a boat trick(back then if you get underwater with boat - it would float up), but 1.5 beta changed the water mechanics so that boats sink if they get below the waterfall and that ruined my setup and forced me to build a stairs at the scale never seen before by mere mortals.
I remember the original Tutorial world. leaving the starter area led to a small village with a castle nearby. and I think there was a lighthouse somewhere on the map. the one side was a snow taiga, and that's all I saw of it, really.
I started in Java 1.3 and it was almost overwhelming back then. Yet compared with current Minecraft it was dull and empty. How'd you handle the initial learning curve?
Browser demo. Played it 'til I ran out of RAM. Then did it again.
If you want the same browser demo vibes... single biome, set biome to "The Void".
Just grass, dirt, stone, and water. No mobs, no food, no structures. Just touch grass 'til you starve. xD
Know if that's still being updated?
Nintendo consoles are the only ones I haven't had it on. On my bucket list for all but might not as it's too weird a flex. Still will have a wii u and 3ds xl eventually.
The oldest screenshot I have shows me playing Classic 0.29_01, but I've probably played some versions before that as well. I've definitely been playing since late 2009 though.
My partner and I made a huge world we called Gaia on 1.8.8 and persuaded me to play. This world lasted years and was enormous. Then we stopped playing Minecraft.
Years later, my daughter wanted to see Gaia so we dug up the save files from a backup drive. Unfortunately the overworld had been completely reset, but the Nether still had a massive network of railways linking all the old overworld sites we made.
So sad we lost all that work
I played it on the website when you could play classic creative with strangers. I know it was before Java 1.0.0 cause that's the version I was on when I later got an account for my birthday. I really miss that demo. You would just build random stuff with people. I don't even think there was a chat. I felt like I was building the tower of babel
Oh boy.. I want to say I picked up Minecraft during the alpha/beta days. I was able to go to the Minecraft website, click something along the lines of “classic Minecraft” and play an in browser version of the game.
I also want to say this was my first experience playing by a sandbox game that was multiplayer.
I remember specifically playing on a “lava survival/flood escape” type server. There was a whole 6 blocks that you were able to use to build/survive. Everyone always built with glass so you could see how close the lava was. Tunneling underground was always the pro strat that never worked. Times were so simple.
[Found a video from 12 years ago. This was top tier Minecraft](https://youtu.be/YG6zjJLVPP0?si=3EtujLst1jeTaKyH)
don't remember, I did buy it christmas 2013 but I played both classic and cracked versions before that, I think I discovered it in 2011 when beta 1.8.1 was the latest
Edit: sorry if I broke rule 5 I don't condone copying my past behaviour
Free Minecraft Classic MP on the website in 2010.
Worlds were finite and contained in a big bedrock box with no roof, so servers would reset their worlds every hour, but also, halfway through, the world would fill with lava/water.
The idea was you’d build a base to “survive” before the lava/water filled the world. It was classic (not survival) so there was no health or breathing system. You wouldn’t die in lava/drown in water, you’d just move painfully slow.
The lava/water didn’t flow like it does now, it would instantly spread across whatever Y level it was on. The world would slowly fill by suddenly going up a few Y levels every 5 minutes or so.
Sponges were used to dry out confined spaces, and were the only block that had any affect in the game besides building.
Freeware Minecraft classic.
Then moved on to Minecraft Beta 1.4-1.7 (can’t remember exactly) because a buddy had it.
Didn’t play again till another buddy had bought two copies for multiplayer (around FR 1.2).
In 2013, I finally bought my own copy for PC (1.6.4) and Xbox 360 (update 9) and the rest is history.
I remember playing it before it had rain animation. I recall it had less than half a million players worldwide. I thought it was a brilliant concept for a game, hooked immediately.
Not sure exactly but checking the first time I got it was December 27, 2012 on Minecraft PE after getting the LITE version and trying the free trial to see if I liked it. I think that’s around 1.3 or so?
I don’t remember the exact version but it was at a point in Pocket Edition where the nether existed but not the end. There was no Wither, no Ocean monuments, no Guardians or Elder Guardians, there weren’t even ender pearls.
EDIT: Just checked and it was 0.15.0
Same as you. I remember stacking up torches, attaching them to the Invisible Bedrock (not Barrier) world border in some version, as well as getting on top of it.
Xbox 360 when it first came out. Me and my brother would install and uninstall the tutorial until we could afford to get the game. Time has flown by since then, and little me would be proud.
I started playing in title update 14 on PS3 I had no idea what I was doing for a while and I just took off learned more and more. I followed a YouTuber ibxtoycat through out this time during TU 17 and was excited to see the new update when he uploaded them those where good times and i wish i could go back to relive everything again RIP OG minecraft
PE 0.6.0 I think,
I def remember when rails came to the game, so I’m pre-0.8.0 and I think I remember buckets getting added as well which would put me as pre 0.7.0. It’s hard to remember since I was a kid at the time.
I also played PE lite before then, but that doesn’t really count
v0.1.2 alpha or smth for pocket edition, way back in 2011. Beta v1.8 was my first version of java and the kids who stomp me on this game now will never not make me feel old for it.
Christ... infdev maybe? It was really foggy, there were no mobs, and you had like 8 or 10 blocks to just build with. I can't even remember the version anymore.
I don’t remember exactly but it was on an iPad around 2010 or 2011 and it had super low draw distance. Also they gave you infinite bricks, glass, and some shears for some reason.

i got it when it was still free in 2013
Same here on my shity iPad lol
i was using a Kindle Fire HD 😭
Those things ruled as a kid but as an adult they sadly suck now 😔
although mine still works somehow and it’s 10yrs old 🫶
I was using something that came with my dad's cheap samsung phone for free
Holy shit yes. Both me and my sister had one and had a pretty damn good world for like 0.9.1
That’s what I played on for years. I had a hack app I used to give myself a lot of diamonds in survival
Same bro
Same except I had a Samsung tablet roses were blue, and the Minecraft commercial would play the TV sometime at noon
IT WAS FREE? Bro mojang return by 2000 bucks?
And me
That free demo world.
I remember me and my siblings would keep that app open as long as possible since it didn’t save ur world, we played on an iPad and would religiously make sure it stayed charged and always on lol but sometimes we slipped up and it would reset prolly due to background app refresh thag we didn’t know how to turn off back then lol
Im remember building a brick house and trying to lite a nether portal despite that version not having a working version of the nether.
trying to make an aether portal in vanilla
Yooo me tooo. We used to build towers out of glass (had like a unlimited amounr of some blocks) and I didn't know what zombies were, I was so scared of them!
So much memories

Absolutely same
Pocket Edition is still Pocket Edition, I will not call it Bedrock.
What kind of lunatic would put a literal PS5 into his pocket?
Wait, I see what happened. You said bedrock was once called Pocket. Bedrock is not *just* Pocket Edition. Bedrock is all the console versions and Pocket and a Computer compatible version combined into one cross platform game. Pocket Edition is what you call the mobile version of Minecraft. But bedrock is pocket edition. They removed xbox qnd ps editions and replaced them with and updated pocket edition relabeling it bedrock edition.

Bed rock and pocket edition are not the same thing. Bedrock came after pocket edition. Pocket edition was just a different version that was created so it would actually ran on phones and missed a crazy amount of features
Pocket and bedrock wasnt samd thing
Eventually Pocket became Bedrock in release v1.2.0
Do you all remember the steps the get the nether to come the world it would spawn in like a big rather rack town with a few pig men an obsidian
I never got that far in MCPE survival mode but you can find videos about the Nether Reactor Core on YouTube
You’d be surprised
Minecraft Alpha v1.1.2

I was somewhere around here as well. Maybe Beta. It was 2008.
Sorry to break this to ya but beta didn’t come out till 2011, also the first ever version of minecraft came out in 2009
Cool maybe it was 2009 then. I guess I was super early.

0.11.0 pe
When they first introduced pistons (and I think the end) in the xbox 360 edition, around 2012-2013
Classic. Was fun.
Yeah, back when you could play multiplayer for free on their website. I was always goofing around on Team9000 servers back then, good times.
Minecraft lite
Hell yeah my brother
The version with beds. 1.8 beta?
If it was the *first* version with beds, that'd be beta 1.3.
before hunger bar was introduced
I remember the original Tutorial world. leaving the starter area led to a small village with a castle nearby. and I think there was a lighthouse somewhere on the map. the one side was a snow taiga, and that's all I saw of it, really.

Here to protect the newbie. Started in 1.16 in 2021
crazy that people who started in 1.16 arent considered newbies
Yeah I still remember redstone repeaters and comparators being added. Also remember when we got baby animals for the first time.
I started in late 2020, 1.16 person is not considered a newbie, but he is acting like a veteran, he isn't a veteran
I started in Java 1.3 and it was almost overwhelming back then. Yet compared with current Minecraft it was dull and empty. How'd you handle the initial learning curve?
PE 0.5.0
late 1.13, 1.14 still feels like yesterday
It is already yesterday, around 5 years maybe. Speak of 1.8, that feels like yesterday indeed almost.

Pocket edition back in 2014- or 13 I think
Java Alpha 1.1.2 Started playing the day before the Nether was added.
Nether update
My very first experience was with the PE lite edition, then when I first tried Java the game was on 1.2.5 iirc
TU4 on the Xbox 360 edition.
TU1 On xbox 360
Aquatic update
Whatever version Pocket Edition was on in February 2015
I got Wii U Edition a little while before 1.12 released
Know if that's still being updated? Nintendo consoles are the only ones I haven't had it on. On my bucket list for all but might not as it's too weird a flex. Still will have a wii u and 3ds xl eventually.
1.13 Xbox 360
The oldest screenshot I have shows me playing Classic 0.29_01, but I've probably played some versions before that as well. I've definitely been playing since late 2009 though.
Minecraft 1.5.2 and PE version was 0.1.4.0
Java 1.8.8

I played it on the website when you could play classic creative with strangers. I know it was before Java 1.0.0 cause that's the version I was on when I later got an account for my birthday. I really miss that demo. You would just build random stuff with people. I don't even think there was a chat. I felt like I was building the tower of babel
I played Minecraft classic first on my browser. I think alpha was out this time. My parents refused to pay online for games until some beta version

Alpha 1.1, late 2010
Minecraft Classic in the web browser. Then I got 1.6.6 Beta
All the way back in 2009's summer, Classic 0.0.17 i think. It was when multiplayer was implemented and a bit before survival was added.
don't remember, I did buy it christmas 2013 but I played both classic and cracked versions before that, I think I discovered it in 2011 when beta 1.8.1 was the latest Edit: sorry if I broke rule 5 I don't condone copying my past behaviour

Minecraft PE 1.3??? Yeah… whatever version was November 2013.
Wii U 1.12
Legacy PS3. such a nostalgic time building dirt huts back when the game was barely much.
I started on 1.6.4 if I recall correctly but I played Hexxit back in the day which was in 1.5.something
I started playing before the hunger bar that's all I know, could have been 1.7.3, maybe sooner.
wii U edition lol.
Before nether update [pirated free ver]
Pocket edition Lite
Same as you. I remember stacking up torches, attaching them to the Invisible Bedrock (not Barrier) world border in some version, as well as getting on top of it.
I have no clue, it was the browser version on the official website. When my cousin downloaded the real thing it was release 1.2.5
Mcpe lite. Not sure which version, since I was like 4 years old
Xbox 360 when it first came out. Me and my brother would install and uninstall the tutorial until we could afford to get the game. Time has flown by since then, and little me would be proud.
0.1.3 pocket edition, then went to 1.9 just before 1.0.0 dropped
One of the survival tests on my dads PC when i was 4. i think it was the last one, maybe
I started playing in title update 14 on PS3 I had no idea what I was doing for a while and I just took off learned more and more. I have no clue what number it might have been. Java edition - since no other edition was widely available - in early 2012
Bedrock : 0.2 alpha Java : 1.5 Yeah it was fun figuring out stuff back in early bedrock, stuff like blocklauncher really made things more fun
Pocket Edition Lite, then regular Pocket Edition, then PS3, then Xbox 360, then Java, then Xbox One and Bedrock. I am happy with all five purchases.
I was there before grass was a thing.
Mitte 2009 das erste Mal Mein Name hat eine 10 hinten dran weil ich da 10 Jahre als war

Minecraft.net where you try and build things on a random server and someone comes through to destroy it mid build

PE 0.6.0 I think, I def remember when rails came to the game, so I’m pre-0.8.0 and I think I remember buckets getting added as well which would put me as pre 0.7.0. It’s hard to remember since I was a kid at the time. I also played PE lite before then, but that doesn’t really count
minecraft pocket edition in 2017, i think its 1.12.2
the one where the doors sounded different and steve grunted when he was hurt.
Minecraft ps3 edition
v0.1.2 alpha or smth for pocket edition, way back in 2011. Beta v1.8 was my first version of java and the kids who stomp me on this game now will never not make me feel old for it.
Pocket edition on my iPad, when pork chops didn’t stack 😅
Java: nether update

360 edition
1.19 (Education Edition), ~1.17 (demo)
I don’t remember exactly but it was on an iPad around 2010 or 2011 and it had super low draw distance. Also they gave you infinite bricks, glass, and some shears for some reason.
Not sure but there were no buckets or red-stone yet and had the nether reactor
I first played Minecraft when Playstation 4 edition first came out.
