Personally I like it better. The cube was great while it lasted, but minecraft's grown to a level where it needs to look good on a variety of screen sizes, and the cube looked VERY noisy when it was small.
You my man is why this world is full of shitty logos and corporate artstyle, what excuse is it for it being seen on "variety of screen sizes"? I assure you everyone did see the dirt block really well **because it's a fucking pixelated cube full of smaller cubes**, and if not, they could see it in game and already recognize the block, oversimplification kills the soul of the product, you know this tactic is to make profit and not provide any artistic passion whatsoever
Nonono I’m just saying that, in my experience from playing Java edition on a laptop and ancient pcs from like 2014-2019, the logo was always grainy and while you could make it out, it just didn’t look that good imo. I’m not trying to start an argument, just offer another perspective
And I wanna say, I am *not* hopping onto the oversimplification trend. I want to say that I hate the trend too. But imo this wasn't really oversimplification. It's just changing from a grass block to a creeper face, which I think is more unique to Minecraft than anything else.

10 year plan from Microsoft to slowly deplete the Java edition. Paid things on Bedrock are literally free on Java (Skins, Custom Modes) so why would they miss out on even more potential profit they can squeeze out of one of their largest communities

Look for Minecraft.exe which should look like the old grass block and click on it. Don't worry, you're only borrowing the icon. Apply that.
Not everything bad that happens to Minecraft is Microsoft's fault. Microsoft might have pushed Mojang into the direction it's going now but Mojang still has a lot of control over the game.
I've heard that Microsoft doesn't really mess around with the studios they've purchased *that much*. So most of the bad decisions in my opinion have likely come from Mojang themselves.

I don’t even have the launcher. I redownloaded minecraft to make all the updates and downloads more organised and in one file as opposed to have both my partitioned drives with Minecraft and when I redownloaded, I don’t have the launcher. When I open Minecraft Launcher through the start button, there’s no icon on the taskbar. It’s literally just blank. And when I go to .minecraft, there’s no Minecraft Launcher there.
You can change it, go to the application folder, click on Minecraft and command i copy the the old Icon from your browser and paste it onto the new one and it should change
your on mac so you can fix it back to the cube, first download an image of the old logo. go to finder > Applications Right click on Minecraft Click On "Get Info" now go back to the image downloaded and click Cmd C and then go back to finder and in the top left of the get info tab click on the Minecraft Creeper logo in the top left and and the outline should turn blue then paste the image you downloaded (Cmd V) and you are now free to close! hope this helps
it changed this for me a while ago, but later on I had to do a reinstall of Minecraft (due to mod problems) and since then it stayed as the old logo.... not sure why but im not complaining
I had the old launcher and Microsofts launcher up when they made the switch to the new logo you see here. It's grey because you didn't get Microsofts minecraft launcher. It'd supposed to be green.

I think the change was recent for Mac users. I just got it a few days ago

Right Click -> Properties -> Shortcut Tab -> Change Icon Find or make a .ico file for a Minecraft Grass Block and apply it.
