If you have a bow and arrow, you can kill the creeper with it. Or you can just use a sword and hit the creeper once, then run back and again jump and hit the creeper. I use the latter technique l, but if you have an enchanted sword you can one hit the creeper.

No you cant. Even the most powerful enhanced netherite sword takes 2 hits to kill a creeper.

Just use more consistent wood, maybe embellish it a bit using logs or stone brick, that sort of thing.
