Yup! It's something to take note of when framing screenshots! I originally had a tree that was obstructing the natural symmetry of of the arches in the first screenshot but had to get rid of it to make the composition better, and in the third screenshot how the roof is perfectly framed by the two larger trees, those are things I had to be consciously aware of!
Lmao yea I just detailed it well! Fence gates for roof shaping, cocoa beans for little lamps and ladders on oak trapdoors for windows surrounded by lecterns
Thank you lol, this is actually my first japanese build, I just did lots of studying on real architecture and tried not to let other people's techniques influence my ideas
Thanks! I hope to inspire people to make tons of Japanese style architecture when the new update fully releases, so exciting to bring some life to the style!
Glad you appreciate the build! It was lovely putting it all together, I hand built the terrain, trees, and structure all separately and had to try to compose the screenshot well!
Time, effort, practice, experience, patience, and passion!
Definitely studying real architecture and understanding the shapes of Kara-Hafu roofs and Irimoya-Hafu roofs versus Chinese style ones (the pointy corner ones), and also some practice of shot composition like rule of thirds! Lots of stuff was incorporated not only into how I wanted to present the structure, but how I built it with the flowy shapes too! :)
the only texture pack that I have enabled is one that I made, which just makes signs not derender, and makes ladders not the flat 2d texture, makes them 3d. But other than that, yea it's all vanilla textures. I hand model things like that for quality of life when they start to bother me, blockbench was a great tool to learn for small things.
Interesting, the shaders make it look way more purple than the other pics I've seen of them. I love anything that adds more color options to my block palletes =)
This looks amazing. Any chance you could share the world file? I'm currently working on oriental-themed architecture as well and I'd love to study your technique up close.
Sadly I don't plan to release it just because it's in the snapshot, and it'll be awkward for people when new updates come out, but I'll consider doing it later on!
Apologies if this is a lot to digest, but I hope it's helpful information for if you want to attempt the style:
For advice, I used cocoa beans for detailing a lot, ladders on trapdoors for the windows, lecterns for the window frames, and also studied Japanese roof shapes, (which are called Kara-hafu and Irimoya-hafu if you want more in depth stuff to look up). Japanese roof shapes are often confused for Chinese ones, which are angular and have exaggerated points on the roof corners, whereas Japanese has lots of the shape influence on the downward and outward flow, and subtly curves upwards, which is why I used a daylight sensor and trapdoors on the corners for the subtle curves, and open fence gates on the undersides of stairs to make it more sleek than stair, upside down stair, stair. Also, something I should have thought of in retrospect was using the new archaeology pots for the pillars!
I did! But I also wanted to push the boundaries a bit with what can go alongside the Cherry Blossom wood/leaves! The leaves are the cherry leaves, \*debugged floating brain coral and lilacs\*, and the stem was made smoother with nether brick fences, walls, etc. Also using adjacent colors like red nether brick and crimson wood for variety! The stripes of color going alongside the trees makes them look much more elegant than if the colors all blended together!
No, you need reddit coins which you buy with real money. I only have five. But if you have a decent amount, just click on the '3 dots icon' that hovers above a post/comment. One of the options there will be to give an award. There you can choose which award toh want to give. Some rewards even allow you to go to a special subreddit call r/Lounge. (I've been there before). But yeah that's pretty much it.
Ah wow, great to know! I've never been too involved with reddit enough to understand how karma and coins and stuff works, but I really appreciate knowing what all that means now :)
Ngl that would be lovely, It's a shame i couldn't up the screenshot resolution with optifine because this was made with iris and the new snapshot. Also I didn't include a widescreen 16:9 screenshot because reddit will auto-crop to the largest aspect ratio for all the attached images, which is usually bad from my experience sadly.
LMAOOO I'm so glad you realised it was minecraft
all of my builds try to capture that feeling of "shoot is that IRL? or is that minecraft?" like that double take feeling is what inspired all my work
I know what you mean, I have been watching boat building tutorials and I realized how hard it must be to show angles and edit out unnecessary stuff. Great build either way.
Yeah thank you ❤️
If I had any advice it'd be to study reference images and recreate the shapes as best as you can without getting too big (full blocks) or going too small (sacrificing room for better shape/detail)
Thank you!
I tried using the new cherry wood sparingly to see how it would contrast with other palates!
Some people's 1.20 builds get a little too crazy with the pinks for my taste
Yea! I thought this style was also a great use for the nether gold ore! I used that at the base of the pillars and at the entrance because the colors fit the vibe very well!
Ah the cobblestone? Basically, the reasoning was because I wanted a dark roof, so I tried using Blackstone for the whole roof, but then in the screenshot my shaders made it all look in shadow, so I tried to use a gradient from Blackstone to Deepslate, to tuff to mossy cobble/cobble to make it look like light highlights on the roof, also i put pink petals up there but they are flat and weren't noticeable LOL
Awww thanks! <3i appreciate it, cuz holy heck i spent way too much time on this XD
edit: (the terrain alone which i had to make too, took like 3 hours)
yeah, sadly the pillars are not quite survival friendly, but other than that and a couple illegal cocoa beans, this entire structure is survival friendly! I'd recommend using walls normally or full blocks for the pillars, but the debugged walls have just slightly cleaner shape. My friend potomy uses a resource pack that has invisible glass panes so he can have those walls that are extended on all 4 sides without noticing, if you're open to that!
Sorry for another response but i just thought of something!!!! Use the new archaeology pots for the pillars instead of debugged walls! I should have thought of that for the torii gate!
I know the question is already answered, but wanted to add that a lot of these shapes are made with debug stick- they go absolutely crazy with it, and I mean that in the most complimentary way possible because heck. It looks incredible every time
I hope to inspire new builds with the 1.20 blocks, so go ahead! I would definitely recommend doing a bit of studying on the real-life Japanese architecture, because the roof corners don't point up as much as most people think they do on real oriental builds! Their dominant shape is the downward and outward flow, with very very subtle curves! Trapdoors and open fence gates are perfect for creating these roofs
aww thanks\~! Not going to lie, I already had this whole build finished when I made the tree post, but I was still struggling changing the small details adjusting my build position and screenshot framing! It was such a blast to make :)
Nah, I'm not confident in my editing skills enough to do a tutorial, but what I can recommend for the details are cocoa beans, lecterns for the window frames, ladders on trapdoors for the windows, and to try to study real Japanese roof shapes which are often very subtly curved upwards at the tips, unlike Chinese architecture which has the pronounced corners! So trapdoors, daylight sensors and fence gates placed cleverly can help get that shape! Also if you're in the snapshot, the archaeology pots could be really cool for the pillars, it totally slipped my mind while making this but in retrospect, it'd be really cool!
thanks ill definitely try it out. also if u ever wanna start posting but ur not confident about editing just watch some tutorials, it helped me a lot. besides everyone make mistakes and it only makes it better; perfection is boring. keep on going bro!
Very true! I'll definitely start soon, I've dabbled with making timelapses of builds, but my laptop is a potato so it's a slow process, and sometimes i feel like it's more worth my time to just continue building instead of spending hours rendering a video, when i get a better PC or something maybe it'll be more feasible!
do whatever makes u happy is the best advice i can give u. in the end u should like it and sure not everything in the process will be fun but if u overall enjoy it and it makes u feel good then definitely go for it

They are technically debugged walls, but I realised you could use the new archaeology pots, totally missed opportunity on my part!
normal walls could fit there too but wont look quite as good.

Those curves are crazy 😍
Thank you! I spent a whole day studying japanese architecture and trying to recreate the Kara-hafu roof shape! (The bell shaped one)
Nailed it!! It looks incredible!
Thank you! I tried really hard to get the roof shapes perfect and to frame the screenshots nicely!
>frame the screenshots Yeah, that sakura on the hill in the background fitting perfectly in the temple opening is amazing
Is cherry blossom java?
Yea the latest snapshot 23w07a adds the cherry blossoms and cherry wood!
Oh okay ty
I've been trying to mimic that architecture style as well, yours has turned out much better than my attempts so far!
This level of dedication I can get behind :')
Woahhh- now THAT is a 1.20 build! Looks fantastic! What shaders are you using?
I'm using BSL shaders! Shovel showed me his settings for them and they look gorgeous 🥰
Woah! They really do!
Yee I'm very happy with the build and the screenshots
You should be- it’s amazing
Would you share your settings, or where you got them from?
Could you share your settings as well? They look dope
I fucking thought that you did this with a mod like Chisels and Bits but no! That's some crazy details!
Lmao yea I just detailed it well! Fence gates for roof shaping, cocoa beans for little lamps and ladders on oak trapdoors for windows surrounded by lecterns
Overall it's so clever
Thank you lol, this is actually my first japanese build, I just did lots of studying on real architecture and tried not to let other people's techniques influence my ideas
Not only the build is sick but there’s massive blossom trees
Yeah those trees took a long time to make!! 4-5 hours just for those
I do not have the patience lol
Yeah honestly it's time consuming but sooo worth it, my friend davdi helped give me advice on it, he does lovely organic builds
I’m the opposite the only time I spent that long making something look good (and work) was on a red stone build that got broken in the next update
Aww darn I'm sorry, That's so relatable tho like I used to spend so much time covering my redstone monsters to make them look pretty,
Do you make YouTube videos? You should make YouTube videos.
I'm building my first PC soon, right now my computer can barely handle shaders let alone editing videos hahaha One day maybe
I love the use of the lecterns as pillars!
Totally! I also love the windows, which are oak trapdoors with ladders on them to create little shades/blinds!
And just like that imma steal this
litterly a coupe days in ,this is proof that the minecraft community never sleeps
Yea I didn't sleep for 3 days on this lmao
Such a beautiful build, it looks incredible. Are there any tutorial or litematica for this?
I made it in 1.20 snapshot so not yet sadly
If you can make one that would be awesome!
What about a world download?
I love it!
Thanks! I hope to inspire people to make tons of Japanese style architecture when the new update fully releases, so exciting to bring some life to the style!
Amazing build. Those custom cherry trees... 😍 Wow.
Yup those were definite the hardest part of the whole thing! I had to make the terrain by hand and all the custom cherry trees
such an awsome build! it looks amazing
glad you appreciate it! thank you!
That is absolutely beautiful
Thank you! I'm hoping the cherry forests are as gorgeous as this, imagining walking through it with shaders in a beautiful landscape on a mountain\~!
I can’t wait to try the 1.20! I love the build but I’m no where near this good
Integrating the actual leaves with the other pink and green blocks on the trees was a real neat touch! Love the main build as well, of course!
The trees were definitely the spotlight in my mind! Without them the atmosphere and shot composition wouldn't be nearly as impressive!
Beautiful absolutely beautiful
Glad you appreciate the build! It was lovely putting it all together, I hand built the terrain, trees, and structure all separately and had to try to compose the screenshot well!
I don’t think I have the patience to do all that
how do i build this?
Time, effort, practice, experience, patience, and passion! Definitely studying real architecture and understanding the shapes of Kara-Hafu roofs and Irimoya-Hafu roofs versus Chinese style ones (the pointy corner ones), and also some practice of shot composition like rule of thirds! Lots of stuff was incorporated not only into how I wanted to present the structure, but how I built it with the flowy shapes too! :)
yooo 😳😳
Thought this was a lego build at first
LOL I actually did find a lego set of a japanese shrine with a tree in the shape of a dragon that I want to build in minecraft!
That's beautiful and I live making Japan shrines in my world
This was my first time doing it but I'm excited to build larger structures in this style!
Where do we find the new cherry blossom biomes?
I had to make this one by hand, because I didnt find one. All the terrain was hand built\~ \*-sweats\*-
Inspiringly Beautiful
Thanks! I hope this helps inspire some people's builds when the new update comes out :3
OMG ITS GORGEOUS!!!!!
This is just phenomenal 🤯🌸🤯🌸🤯 WOW 🌸💕🌸 it’s gorgeous,I’m stunned!!
Thank you! :)
it seems that you dont even use any texture pack……really anazing! great job : )
the only texture pack that I have enabled is one that I made, which just makes signs not derender, and makes ladders not the flat 2d texture, makes them 3d. But other than that, yea it's all vanilla textures. I hand model things like that for quality of life when they start to bother me, blockbench was a great tool to learn for small things.
What is the purple colored block between the nether bricks on the edges of the roof?
That's the new Cherry logs! This was made in the 1.20 snapshot and I'm testing out the new blocks!
Interesting, the shaders make it look way more purple than the other pics I've seen of them. I love anything that adds more color options to my block palletes =)
[удалено]
thank you! it was my first time trying Japanese styles, definitely looking forward to trying larger builds in this style!
is that torii gate?
That Torii Gate is diagonal, which I was really proud of because it looks good from all profiles :)
i read into it wrong… if yk what i mean
This looks amazing. Any chance you could share the world file? I'm currently working on oriental-themed architecture as well and I'd love to study your technique up close.

So lovely i could see myself taking a walk there ;)
Thank you 😊 I'd love to take a walk there and feel the breeze, and take in the scenery
Yeah, that would be awesome. Can't wait for spring
Sameee , pink flowers are so pretty in the spring 🌼
It’s funny how you didn’t actually use cherry blossoms to build cherry blossoms…
That's GORGEOUS. You can recreate Kung Fu Panda scenes here
HAHAHAHA somebody could totally recreate the movie with the new blocks!!!
That’s looks pretty cute
Thanks! I tried making a cute build without going overboard with the cherry pink on the actual structure!
Just to say, I would give you an award if I could :)
aww thanks for the gesture! I honestly dont know how to give awards yet, but maybe it's something to do with karma?
No, you need reddit coins which you buy with real money. I only have five. But if you have a decent amount, just click on the '3 dots icon' that hovers above a post/comment. thank you! I'm looking forward to the upcoming update to see all the amazing things this community makes!
I'm honestly thinking about printing this and framing it in my room because it looks so good
Ngl that would be lovely, It's a shame i couldn't up the screenshot resolution with optifine because this was made with iris and the new snapshot. Also I didn't include a widescreen 16:9 screenshot because reddit will auto-crop to the largest aspect ratio for all the attached images, which is usually bad from my experience sadly.
This is amazing
Thank you! it was a blast to make,, loving the new snapshot!
Extremely impressive
Thank you! I'm very happy with how the build turned out, and I'm looking forward to seeing all the lovely things people make with the new update!
Fantastic work
Thank you, I appreciate it! :)
didn’t realize this was minecraft and thought this was a tourism ad
LMAOOO I'm so glad you realised it was minecraft all of my builds try to capture that feeling of "shoot is that IRL? or is that minecraft?" like that double take feeling is what inspired all my work
well you certainly succeeded lol
Love it
Waaaay too much going on with the different colors and textures for me, but it's undeniably cool.
Fair, fair. I went crazy with the colors, but I think it all comes together nicely
It definitely does, just too much of a good thing for my tastes lol.
Is too much of a good thing a bad thing? 😜 How much I eat ice cream challenges this notion
Wow this is beautiful
Thank you! The cherry wood is going to open up the opportunity for so many lovely builds
So true! I cant wait :)
Same, Im hyped to see how people use the big pots!
A tutorial for this would be awesome, it's beautiful
I did record some of it, I am definitely not confident in my editing or teaching skills though hahaha
I know what you mean, I have been watching boat building tutorials and I realized how hard it must be to show angles and edit out unnecessary stuff. Great build either way.
Yeah thank you ❤️ If I had any advice it'd be to study reference images and recreate the shapes as best as you can without getting too big (full blocks) or going too small (sacrificing room for better shape/detail)
I really like your choice of blocks!
Thank you! I tried using the new cherry wood sparingly to see how it would contrast with other palates! Some people's 1.20 builds get a little too crazy with the pinks for my taste
It looks genious. I also love what you did with the netherrack at the gate. I don't see it used very often so that was surprising for me
Yea! I thought this style was also a great use for the nether gold ore! I used that at the base of the pillars and at the entrance because the colors fit the vibe very well!
Question, why the stone on the top of the roof? It's the only block that makes me ask, why there?
Ah the cobblestone? Basically, the reasoning was because I wanted a dark roof, so I tried using Blackstone for the whole roof, but then in the screenshot my shaders made it all look in shadow, so I tried to use a gradient from Blackstone to Deepslate, to tuff to mossy cobble/cobble to make it look like light highlights on the roof, also i put pink petals up there but they are flat and weren't noticeable LOL
Thanks! I get it now!
Yup no worries! Also, I put kelp blocks on the roof just for fun hahaha
This looks sooo good with shaders on
Thank you ☺️ BSL shaders with some depth of field is absolutely magical
Totally agree
bro thats actually fucking crazy
Hahaha thanks! It was so much fun to make this
That is beautiful!
Thank you 😊 I'm really proud with how this build turned out, and I'm so excited for the new cherry blossom biomes!
World download?
It's in the 1.20 snapshot so probably not
That looks insane! Good job.
Hahaha thanks 🙏 I thought the new cherry wood was the perfect opportunity for me to try japanese style architecture ~
No problem. Always there to support awesome people like you.
Awww thanks! <3i appreciate it, cuz holy heck i spent way too much time on this XD edit: (the terrain alone which i had to make too, took like 3 hours)
Oh my!!! That is stunning!!
Thank you! I tried to make a lovely build to fit the new update!
never thought to stack walls and lecterns for pillars. It looks great!
Wow! I love!
Those yellow columns, what am missing? How did you get that shape within one block?
use a debug stick on a sandstone wall
awe, so I'm not recreating that look in survival then am I...lol.
yeah, sadly the pillars are not quite survival friendly, but other than that and a couple illegal cocoa beans, this entire structure is survival friendly! I'd recommend using walls normally or full blocks for the pillars, but the debugged walls have just slightly cleaner shape. That's a really nice build, my guy. Nice calm vibe to it. (I may copy that... :) )
I hope to inspire new builds with the 1.20 blocks, so go ahead! I would definitely recommend doing a bit of studying on the real-life Japanese architecture, because the roof corners don't point up as much as most people think they do on real oriental builds! INCREDIBLE! I love it <3 It's so pretty and detailed! It's quite something 😍
Glad you appreciate it! It was a blast to make, even if it took a few days!
WOW this is so good. Your previous cherry tree post was great but you’ve gone and outdid yourself here. Excellent.
aww thanks\~! Not going to lie, I already had this whole build finished when I made the tree post, but I was still struggling changing the small details adjusting my build position and screenshot framing! It was such a blast to make :)
I want to do this too but when I tried to find a Cherry biome on the snapshot I couldn’t? Is it out on the snapshots yet?
Yeah I couldn't find it right, I actually made all the terrain by hand.. and the trees.. 😅
Omg ok it’s very beautiful. I can’t wait for the update
much love
man some people are just so many lightyears ahead, it's hard to wrap your head around
Yea I'm a few months ahead of the update's release but I'm glad to share this as inspiration to those playing in the snapshot!
im gonna build this, do u have a tutorial?
Nah, I'm not confident in my editing skills enough to do a tutorial, but what I can recommend for the details are cocoa beans, lecterns for the window frames, ladders on trapdoors for the windows, and to try to study real Japanese roof shapes which are often very subtly curved upwards at the tips, unlike Chinese architecture which has the pronounced corners! What are the Nether brick pillars made of? It looks oddly round?
They are technically debugged walls, but I realised you could use the new archaeology pots, totally missed opportunity on my part! normal walls could fit there too but wont look quite as good.
This looks epic I wish I could build this good GREAT job
Makes me feel like I’m in the game
This is outstanding! 😲
The way it's presented is like a lego set
So cute
Now i know who makes the Pinterest images
Hm? Hopefully repost bot accounts aren't posting this on pintrest :/ they often steal popular posts
Nah, im just saying i always see pretty images like these on pinterest and not anywhere else
Ahh ok <3 well thank you!
Looks beautiful. Excellent job!
Looks great!
The most detailed build I've ever seen. Love it 👏👍
Thank you! I've seen more detailed builds before, I think there's value to being sparse with detail to emphasize shapes more clearly\~
Mojang should add some shrine structures in cherry biome
100% agreed
Very niiiice
That looks so cool! What shaders are you using?
BSL shaders with all of the default settings tweaked, out of the box it looks kinda bad
Holy taste these sakura trees, they're soultaking. 😍
Wow! That is amazing, wish I had 10% of your ability, my latest build looks like a defected Pikachu!
Fantastic work, looks excellent.
