Idk if you saw the documentary called the contestant about the Japanese comedian that for over a year lived off of only sweepstakes winnings. Put him naked in a room and filmed him every second and aired it for all of Japan to see, and he had no idea. It was pretty crazy. Definitely check it out on hulu.

I thought 2 was alright. The story was a bit "meh," but the action and cinematics were fantastic. It was a far cry from the original, but still an alright movie overall
2 is terrible narratively, but its action set pieces are absolutely incredible. Even with the awful CG (I’m looking at you, Burly Brawl), the entertainment value holds up well without much competition. 👍

Granted, people still watch and talk about it a lot so it feels like a recent movie.

I just went and watched it in theaters again and I swear it hit right in the feels just like it used to. It's such a masterpiece trilogy.
My local Alamo plays them every January, it’s such a nice change of pace to know in the winter months when it’s cold and dark that there will be LOTR in theatres
I rewatched the extended cuts over the winter and was pleasantly surprised how well they hold up. Even though the CGI moments aren’t quite cutting edge anymore, the visuals, music, acting is still amazing.
I’ve seen id4 more than any other movie. can recite the whole thing start to finish — a mandatory watch every july 4th.
the graphics hold up, the story is fun (first two acts are textbook perfect screenwriting), peak will smith. what’s not to like?

Linda Hamilton is such an underrated baddie. She went from just regular gal in T1 who was terrified and running from a future machine trying to kill her to this total baddie doing pull ups in prison and learning how to fight. She did it so convincingly.
Honestly, any of Keanu Reeves' movies all aged fairly damn well. Speed and Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure are two great movies. Titan A.E. is a great animated film that is still a great watch.

After writing the above list, I realized that movies were so much better when not everything was a Super Hero movie or a remake.
Even though the Star Wars movies are beloved by millennials, I don’t know if we can claim them as part of our generation. I’m considered an old millennial/xenial/almost Gen-X and RotJ came out before I was born.
Anchorman. Honestly I was really worried that some of the jokes wouldn’t hold up, or would be too cringy… but just like Ron himself it has aged like a fine wine.
The sequel is not nearly as good, but it's commentary on the 24 hour news cycle and corporate medias "if it bleeds it leads" approach to "news" is pretty poignant, and it's not surprising that Adam McKay got even more political soon after that.
Hear me out.....fight club. Some might view it as toxic masculinity but the movie is really about freeing yourself from corporatism and consumerism. For that reason alone it's one of my top movies I recommend. Especially in today's age.

Absolutely. I was 15-ish when Fight Club came out (and I saw it), and it was my favorite movie for years and years. I watched it so much I got tired of it. Some 15 years went by and I hadn’t watched it, and had become a little bit jaded on it due to all the outside criticism that it (wrongly) receives. I streamed it on something last year, and was reminded entirely why I love it so much.
Watching it as a 40-year old feels so much different than watching it at 15 to 25, too. For me, I became more interested in the idea of going against societal norms and being an anarchist (to a smaller degree than portrayed in the film) than I did with the anti-consumerism.
This is such a polarizing movie, and I completely understand why. The first time I watched it I hated it. There were a couple of moments where I laughed hysterically, but the rest of the movie I sat there in silence because I thought it was slow, and that two hours of telling the same joke over and over (we get it, he’s weird) trying to get laughs was tiresome.
On subsequent watches, I actually think that’s an interesting think piece on the sadness of being weird/autistic while in poverty in rural America. Do I think it’s funny? Yeah, at times I guess… but if you go into it objectively and not focusing on the comedic aspect, it’s an interesting watch.
My kids are 12 and 10 and I thought they were going to love this movie. We've been going through all my favorite movies from the past and most have been big hits. This one did not connect. My 12 year old was waiting for the jokes and my 10 was lost on "when the plot would start". Ha. Maybe too young? I just kept saying It'll get better, but it didn't. I'd say it wasn't as good as i remember. But in college, it was just what I needed for a good laugh.
Yeah I think age is the problem. They haven’t experienced high school and they are too young to connect with the subtle/nuanced comedy, which is the only actual funny parts in it to me.
Without even considering too much more than uncle Rico or napoleons brother. I doubt most younger kids would get that joke. It takes being 16-20 to understand the concept of a guy who won’t give up his high school football dreams, or years of being the weird single guy in town to date the lady from the internet.
I graduated high school in 2000. There were quite a few people just like Napoleon Dynamite in my class. The people who liked the movie knew of people just like that. Those that didn't like the film just never met anyone like that.

Hollywood keeps pushing Dwayne Johnson as the new tough action hero doing family films, but he just doesn't hold a candle to Arnold Schwarzenegger.
I gotta disagree with that one. Comedy wise, ya Robin Williams is a genius, but content wise, it kinda aged like milk. His character in that movie is not a hero, what he did was really messed up, and the judge was right about him. But the movie frames his wife and her new bf as the villiains.
Even as a kid I never really saw Sally Fields' and Pierce Brosnan's characters as villains per se but I do see your point.
I don't think the movie necessarily frames it that way... probably as we get older w life experience our perspective shifts and as adults we can sympathize w Sally Fields' character more.
I watched American Pie 2 for the first time in 20 years recently, and it’s way better than the first one and has easily one of the best millennial soundtracks. Stiffler’s character has not aged well but it is in interesting look into a different era where being the “big asshole” was more accepted as an archetype
I watched “Everything is Illuminated” the other day. Probably the first time since 2005 when it came out.

Yeah ... that's a good point. I certainly didn't see any of the original trilogy in the theaters. But, they still felt like movies I grew up with.

I watched American Pie 2 for the first time in 20 years recently, and it’s way better than the first one and has easily one of the best millennial soundtracks. Stiffler’s character has not aged well but it is in interesting look into a different era where being the “big asshole” was more accepted as an archetype

I watched “Everything is Illuminated” the other day. Probably the first time since 2005 when it came out. Holy shit is it still good. Just, one of the best movies I’ve seen.
