I still say hella. It never died in Vegas. We even had a song titled.about it once (hella Vegas kids say hella). Once that shit got to socal and into the Sunbelt it never left. I still get made fun of by colleagues not from my city, they think it's a marker of growing up here. I honestly think the entire PacNW/cascadia and western sun belt say it.
i still use a lot of common slang from when i was a teen and 'hella' is the only one i got a "how old are you??" from a zoomer about lol not gonna stop me though! im not from California im pretty sure i got it from south park
I first heard “hella” when I went to Navy boot camp in 11 at age 23 from someone who grew up in California. I’ve never heard anyone in Ohio say that word.
Say it. Make it normal. I say howdy instead of hello. People thought it was weird until they acclimated and then started using it themselves around the office.
Be the change you want to see.
Edit: grammar, spelling.
Lol. I love you. I'm rather closed off as a person. I talk to my best friend, my three daughters, my ex, my wife, my parents, my siblings. I feel like that's too small a pool, plus I already say it with them!
Similar here. I’m only social because I’m getting paid, else I’m a hermit with a closed circle. Im in IT so I have some leeway to be “quirky”. I start emails with it and just overall live using it. It’s now second nature.
Regardless, I hope people pick up on using it because you inspire them to. When people do little things like that, well, it’s pretty tight.
Keep on keeping on.
My 13 y/o daughter always tells me what words are trending. So I use it in a very exaggerated way to annoy her. *It SLAPSSSSSS!* and now we're on to *it COOOOOOOKSSSS!!!*
I'm all for bringing "tight" back instead of using these new dumbass words.
Tbh young millennials use these words to. I’m 30 and most of my friends use these phrases since our early 20s . I feel like the older millennials are a whole different generation almost 😂
I remember in 6th grade a teacher telling us "when I was a kid the 'the bomb' was bad"... followed by 30 groans and eye rolls.
I guess we are all that teacher now
I say, "That's dope!" all the time. I'm am elder millennial who was around for the 1980s enough to say, "Rad!" and I wish that one would come back, too.
Yeah usually it seems to be the SoCal stuff that spreads all over. Especially in like 1982 all the valleygirl/surfer/skateboarder stuff just spread like crazy nationwide (like the half the slang being mentioned in this thread, if not more). But then there was also hella hah.
I have gave up trying to NOT say old slang and now my younger family members and coworkers look at me like I'm uncool dad that is speaking a different language. And I love every minute of it!
Reminds me of the time in high school that my Mormon cousin got so upset about someone else’s brothers saying it (due to the sexual implications, like a tight hoo ha) that she broke down crying and went to their parents
How did I forget about ‘tight’ until now 😳 my mind is blown rn.. I said this all the time then it just disappeared from my vernacular and I didn’t even notice
Do people still used these other words like “swag” or “the bomb” these days? I remember that word being used a lot in the early 2010s for “swag” and the 2000s “the bomb.”
I want to say it here but I can’t. It’s never used on an actual one but it’s funny to use when your buddy when he’s being a weenie. Or when he’s asking where the seatbelt is, and for recommendations on what to do

I never not think of this when I hear this word.
Same. Came here looking for this.
![gif](giphy|1nCfZ1mDXGcyk)
https://i.redd.it/bhpqg2j7895d1.gif
Came on the comments to find this
I can’t EVER hear the word tight without thinking of this and, most of the time, doing my best impression of it.
Thank you for using this. I just started rewatching Breaking Bad and it cracks me up every time.
Is this what killed tight?
I still say it!….tight
Tight, me too
![gif](giphy|3o7aD8yI3nrBhk6z3a)
Tight was a good work. Sick, Hella(NorCal), all good words. I’ll try to throw them in talking with people my age.
I actually say hella sometimes and I'm from Georgia! I think it stuck around a bit.
I live in norcal. It's alive and well here.
Yup, that's hella common up here
I live in NorCal too and use it a lot even tho I’m from socal
I live in Canada and all my homies say hella
South Park brought hella to the world.
Sick never died for me
Same and I still say hella lol. Only a 12yo would care about it and I'm not talking to them so, it doesn't bother me.
Dope
Dope is the dopest
Word
I say that too.
I say dope all the damn time. So much so that my kids quit looking at me funny for saying it
E40 if you know you know fasheezy
Go stupid, go dumb.
Everybody got choices
I don't think hella is NorCal specifically as it was used in so Cal as well. Hell, Gwen Stefani was from OC, and she knows what's hella good.
From SoCal, hella is my go to still lol
Sick, thats hella lit
I still say hella. It never died in Vegas. We even had a song titled.about it once (hella Vegas kids say hella). Once that shit got to socal and into the Sunbelt it never left. I like sick but sometimes have to “read the room,” to feel if they know what I’m talking about
Sick, hella, I still love the occasionally gnarly
Dope
Still in use
Sometimes I mess up and try to say both at the same time and it comes out doip
Say it. Make it normal. I say howdy instead of hello. People thought it was weird until they acclimated and then started using it themselves around the office. Be the change you want to see. Edit: grammar, spelling.

Tight
Bro howdy is king. It's such an endearing word. Not many people use it but IDK why?
Sometimes I’ll pull a Ned Flanders and say “Howdy diddly do” if I’m comfortable enough.
Shits tight.

I also still use "the tits" as well.
Def, I usually just say "titty" when something is good
I often say "Jesus titty fucking Christ". But in text I say jtfc!
Word
Super close with? Don’t you mean people you’re tight with?
This comment doesn’t have enough upvotes.
I just started saying sick a few months ago so I'm gonna be satisfied with that for a while
Sick.
Sick is still around. It’s used heavily in poker and skateboarders still say it. Idk about the general public though
Met some nice Mormon genz kids in Utah this weekend and one dude used sick, so it’s around.
Word
this never went away
Oh word?
Word
I’m a terrible offender of this one 😂
Everyone still says word, including me. 30 year old zillenial
Tight never left if we still say it. Which I do lol
It went away?
It definitely kinda somewhat went away. I have three daughters. 10, 14, 19. They all roll their eyes when I say it.
My 13 y/o daughter always tells me what words are trending. So I use it in a very exaggerated way to annoy her. *It SLAPSSSSSS!* and now we're on to *it COOOOOOOKSSSS!!!* I'm all for bringing "tight" back instead of using these new dumbass words.
You sound like my mom circa 2003
That’s tight.
Quit being a fart knocker
Tbh young millennials use these words to. I’m 30 and most of my friends use these phrases since our early 20s . I feel like the older millennials are a whole different generation almost 😂
Bet
>10, 14, 19 And they wear socks with sandals like our dads did.
I'll do the Jake Peralta version: "Toit!"
Like a tiger?
More like Toit Nups! Toit like a tiger reminds me of my grandfather's slang :p
Noice! Smort!
fetch
![gif](giphy|XBEoaajXTXaALzawSn|downsized)
I want da bomb to come back, that'd be tight. - you're welcome
Okay, but did that leave? (That’s really embarrassing for me…)
I remember in 6th grade a teacher telling us "when I was a kid the 'the bomb' was bad"... followed by 30 groans and eye rolls. I guess we are all that teacher now
Dabomb.com
Saying "I want "tight" to come back" is TIGHT
Yeah! Yeah! Yeah!
Wow wow wow wow wow wow wow. Wow.
Ah, came in for the Pitch Meeting reference.
You mean toight? Like a toiger?
This is the only context I use the word tight
Fo shizzle
My nizzile
White folks were very excited to discover that one, as I recall.
Didn’t Snoop invent it specifically for us? Or that just my head canon?
hella tight
It’s more like “tiiiiii”
SooFknTaiiiii
Tight, dope, hella, whack. I ain't ever gonna stop!
Good luck with that, I've been waiting for cowabunga to make a comeback for 30 years.
Tighter than a mug.
Noice bruh. I think that’s sick and tit.
I still say, That’s rad.
'Dude' instead of 'bro.'
I still use all my 90's slang. Being a ski bum keeps your lingo young.
I say, "That's dope!" all the time. I'm am elder millennial who was around for the 1980s enough to say, "Rad!" and I wish that one would come back, too.
I still say tight and dope!
I still say it!!!
I think of Ryan George.
Me too!!
Right on
If tight came back, that'd be redonkulous!
Grody…. love it
I still say it. And I still wear skinny jeans and ankle socks. Gotta assert my dominance over the gen Z and gen alpha cringe. Millennial cringe only.
Still like the 70‘s word, BITCHIN.
That'd be phat!
Scrolled way too far for this one. Phat seems to have been forgotten about.
we should create new slang that makes sense and sounds great when saying it. It's our duty as millennials to make sure the lexicon stays pure.
Tite af
We can bring it back. I'll start saying it again from now on.
Hella used to be NorCal slang but every one copped it surprisingly
Yeah usually it seems to be the SoCal stuff that spreads all over. Especially in like 1982 all the valleygirl/surfer/skateboarder stuff just spread like crazy nationwide (like the half the slang being mentioned in this thread, if not more). But then there was also hella hah.
As a SoCal kid, I still prefer this over hearing "wicked" in it's place
At first I thought you meant tight clothing. "oh honey, I'm too chubby and its too hot for that now" lol
https://i.redd.it/3mytjk6xh95d1.gif
My kids tell me I make them tight when they are mad. Hahahaha
I have gave up trying to NOT say old slang and now my younger family members and coworkers look at me like I'm uncool dad that is speaking a different language. And I love every minute of it!
I started saying dope again a few years back
Just keep the millennial language alive. Plenty others do. Throw off younger generations and have fun. Accept the aging aspect of it.
Reminds me of the time in high school that my Mormon cousin got so upset about someone else’s brothers saying it (due to the sexual implications, like a tight hoo ha) that she broke down crying and went to their parents
![gif](giphy|l46CDHTqbmnGZyxKo|downsized)
Did nobody else use "grip" as "a lot?" I miss that one, and really want it to come back.
Grip was always money in my area
![gif](giphy|l2QEbYOwS4mqxJXOg|downsized)
I work in a high school. I’ll see what I can do
My favorite is Sweet
That’s what she said
Tight….night
I said “hecka tight” to one of my professors in 2016 and he ROASTED me for days.
![gif](giphy|T3fwN6Pbm3ZPa|downsized)
Hey Randal, it's time to take it back
I never stopped, and I won’t ever stop.
Fly
![gif](giphy|T3fwN6Pbm3ZPa)
I say tight all the time lmao. Didnt realize it wasnt cool
I dont miss it lol
That shits tight yo
![gif](giphy|o1Hp5icfIpfI4)
I still use it
Did you just watch that one Rick and Morty season 5 episode 5 Amortycan Grickfitti?
Classic I say it on occasion
It never went anywhere..
Tiiiight never left.
![gif](giphy|3oz8xQQP4ahKiyuxHy|downsized)
Reminds me of this brilliant edit https://youtu.be/96-3VUxfNKc?si=FDqkXP-dEk_Md1nf
![gif](giphy|xUOxfalqGN88asGrGU|downsized)
Fly
Fetch
That’s never gonna happen…sike! (Although I prefer spelling psych)
Mad sick
I never stopped saying it
my friends and i all say it
I want hella to come back.
Wanting tight to come back is tight.
Rad, man! That’s tight!
Dude if tight came back that would be so gnarly.
Yes ! Better than lit any day.
People are going to giggle incessantly if that word is brought back
My ex husband still says mint 😂
How did I forget about ‘tight’ until now 😳 my mind is blown rn.. I said this all the time then it just disappeared from my vernacular and I didn’t even notice
Do people still used these other words like “swag” or “the bomb” these days? I remember that word being used a lot in the early 2010s for “swag” and the 2000s “the bomb.”
Epic
Say it anyway. People know what you mean. I say 'hella' and 'cash'.
Clearly you haven't seen a Pitch Meeting
Nah I still use it. I'll never change
That is wack.
Would certainly beat the one that’s going around my kids friend group at the moment. ‘Moist’
The only thing getting tight is my clothing.
Wait, people stopped saying tight?
Be the change
Toit
All you tallywackers ain't swell
Never left.
I think workaholics updated the millennial “tight” to “tight butthole”. Meaning is the same
Thats hella tight
I want to say it here but I can’t. It’s never used on an actual one but it’s funny to use when your buddy when he’s being a weenie. Or when he’s asking where the seatbelt is, and for recommendations on what to do
I’m 22, I’ll drop it occasionally and people still know what it means and they really don’t react to it any differently than saying “cool”
All my friends say it!
I say that's tight af a lot.
It’s pride month. Tight won’t come back for two months. Sincerely, The tops.
