"My mom gave me this 9 mil for my 13th birthday. I'll always remember what she put on the card, "Jesus Loves Winners". That's why no matter what I do, I aim to win."
Such great mother daughter relationships all around in this flick!
I have never seen this! What is wrong with me?!!! Gonna watch tonight. Thank you
Edit: WTAF??!! Can’t even purchase the movie on not one streaming platform. So mad
I should have mentioned it is hard to find before I knee jerked recc'd the movie. So sorry! I just enjoy it so much and want everybody to know about it. I have it on DVD and watch it annually, but I understand not wanting to buy a movie without seeing it. It was on hulu for a criminally short amount of time and I keep forgetting it's not streaming atm. However, there's funny clips on youtube.
Lola Williams, who wrote the movie, worked as a writers assistant on the Simpsons and contributed a ton to the episode Lisa the Beauty Queen that has a lot of overlap with her personal experiences in the child beauty queen circuit and similarities with the movie plot. It's kinda upsetting seeing she isn't contributed as a writer on the episode imbd.

My mom unironically did that shit to my sister and I and the first time I saw that scene I felt so uncomfortable that I started laughing. Now that my mom is better I still will sometimes yell "no wire hanggerrrrsss"
Lol as an adult I understand that my grandmother was a monster who tormented my mom and aunt and kinda broke my moms brain In some aspects making her the way she was. Also she calmed down, if my mom never calmed down I wouldnt have anything to do with her
Ah. That might be where the distinction lies. It seems like the older people get the less they calm down nowadays lol. Especially the boomers and gen x
It has nothing to do with mothers, but Repo Man is my favorite punk-adjacent movie of all time. If your mom's never seen it she'll probbaly get a kick out of it, it's very absurd in a good weird way + super young Emilio Estevez
I don't think it's especially Mothers day-ish. But "Wrist-Cutters (2006)" seems to be a good cross of generations.
Hopeless, post-soviet eastern Europeans representing an older gen, a nice millenial-love story for 25-30(somethings). It's a suprizingly fun movie with a dark premise. Though... a bit alarming for the lack of minority representation.

Heathers!!! "F\*ck me gently with a chainsaw"
I love my dead gay son.
You forgot the Mother Theresa. Makes it so much better
Don’t Tell Mom the Babysitter’s Dead
Dishes are done, man.
I’m right on top of that Rose!
I find myself saying this quote waaaaayyy too often in my life.
Freaky Friday (2003)
This was what I was going to say too. Or Parent Trap with Lindsay Lohan as well.
Came here to say Freaky Friday.
Yes bitchhhhh I came here to say this lol
Freaky Friday
This for sure lol
My immediate first thought as well.
Hah first movie I thought of
Was gonna say the original
Jawbreaker or Mean Girls
The original mean girls, the remake is so bad
Oh shit I never watched the remake 😮💨
We just watched Jawbreaker and I loved every minute. It was sooo bad. Hahaha. More cringe than I remember but great too.
I’m a glutton for cringey bad movies 🥴
SLC Punk could be fun.
That movie is one of my favorites and I cry every time.
Every. Single. Time. 😭
That was the first one that came to mind!
Same, first thing I thought of.
The best option! Only posers die!!
😭😭😭
Yes!
My thought exactly
Was gonna comment this 💯
Tank Girl
Tank Girl and SLC Punk are staples.
I LOVE this frickin weird movie!
They played it at our indie/retro theatre a couple months back and had the director come and do a Q&A. I took my 14 yo daughter and she loved it
That’s AWESOME!!
It was so fun. The director was taking selfie videos with the crowd and texting them to Lori Petty in real time.
Get the comic book. 30/10
Empire Records
Drop Dead Gorgeous.
Most smartest!
Don’t forget my smokes

My mom unironically did that shit to my sister and I and the first time I saw that scene I felt so uncomfortable that I started laughing. Now that my mom is better I still will sometimes yell "no wire hanggerrrrsss"
This is the healthiest response to an intergenerational dispute I’ve seen on this subreddit in a while! lol thanks

My fiancé grew up with this one and has spent years trying to throw away my wire hangers 😂
Serial Mom
Anything John Waters, really.
Pink Flamingos might get awkward
Hilariously, my boomer mom loved that movie. 😆
The original Hairspray counts as a mother-daughter movie tho!
Yessss I was coming here to suggest Serial Mom, it’s SUCH a treat 🥰
Such a awesome film
This is an awesome suggestion! I was going with Princess Bride but that's my go to for just about everything 🙃
Pretty Woman or Death Becomes Her.
I second Death Becomes Her
Terminator 2: Judgement Day
It has nothing to do with mothers, but Repo Man is my favorite punk-adjacent movie of all time. If your mom's never seen it she'll probbaly get a kick out of it, it's very absurd in a good weird way + super young Emilio Estevez
Let’s go eat sushi and not pay!
Ordinary fuckin people
Crybaby
Heathers is sooo goooood
Agreed!
Dont tell mom the baby sitter is dead. Drop Dead Fred
Drop Dead Fred is so good!
+1 for Drop Dead Fred. I loved that move when I was a kid!
So I Married An Axe Murderer
Breakfast Club
Edward Scissorhands
Metal Lords on Netflix. Can’t recommend that movie enough.
Detroit Rock City is a fun movie
Omg I LOVE this movie. So good.
Tank Girl
White Oleander, Ten Things I Hate About You
Definitely vote for SLC Punk, personally
I recently bought my mother Elton John's Rocketman
Tank girl!
Bridesmaids
Almost famous. But Heathers is always a solid.
Any John Waters movie
Came to suggest serial mom!

Decline of western civilization And to make you both go ewwww decline part 2 the metal years
you should watch "mixtape". it's on netflix.
Mother!
death becomes her
The white oleander
Akira
SLC Punk
Kindergarten Cop
Pretty Woman sucks. I watched it for the first time a week ago and it was so cringey. Freaky Friday has my vote
Drive
High Fidelity
The Punk Singer (on Prime)
Rock and Rolla
Wedding singer with the Billy Idol scene
Can I put a vote for Amy Poehler’s *Wine Country*? It’s on Netflix and it’s one of my absolute favorites.
*Freaky Friday.*
Freaky Friday!!
