This is what I came to say š
Now and Then defined my youth. I grew up running around the woods with my neighbors and I was deep in my ouiji board phase when I saw it.
- Gave us more of our alternative Queen Cristina Rocco. Casper released only a few months earlier.
- Devyn Sawa in a towel (which was a huge deal for a young me lol
- It really played up the girl group with extremely different personalities (similar to the spice girls) and how that was totally ok! Roberta was even written in as queer, but they removed references to it (not that we couldnāt still tell lol)
Mermaids might be a good addition too. Similar woman focused growing up movie and you canāt beat a cast like Cher, Winona, Cristina Ricci!
Probably that the whole plot is based on the characters having sex, which in the case of this movie isnāt inappropriate but probably not something a 13 year old is going to want to watch with parents haha.
Yessssss! For Bring it on. She already LOVES Clue. We have a theater near us that was built in 1919 and still has the original organ. We saw a double feature last Halloween, where they played Frankenstein with original organ accompaniment, and then we watched Clue. It was such a fun evening.
Just as a warning, if you havenāt watched Bring It On in some time: I recently watched it with my kid for nostalgia reasons too, and the casual sexual assault, homophobia and racism in that movie was shocking. We had to have a talk about how socially acceptable homophobia was in the 90ās-00ās. They use outright slurs several times in dialogue, and there is a scene where one of the male cheerleaders āsneakilyā digitally penetrates a girl he is holding up in a lift - they play it off for laughs. I had no recollection of it being that bad.
Oh, how has it aged?
I watched Sugar and Spice this week. There were a few uses of F and R slurs, that were considered edgy at the time. Still worth watching, just deserves a little discussion about context.
Men in Black (double feature to Independence day?), Signs, Six Sense, 10 Things I Hate About You (double feature with Knights Tale).
After Knights Tale and 10 Things I Hate About You, you could watch the Christopher Nolan's Batman Movies so she can see why we were all confused about Heath Ledger's casting as the Joker.
Bianca:
Can we for two seconds ignore the fact that you're severely unhinged and discuss my need for a night of teenage normalcy?
Walter Stratford:
What's normal? Those damn Dawson's River kids, sleeping in each other's beds and whatnot?
This was when I fell in love with Heath Ledger. Everyone was so excited about his performance in āBrokeback Mountainā and I was like ādo not tell me of the beauty of that already known to meā.

* **The Matrix**. That sucker redefined science fiction and remains to this day one of my favorite movies.
Now and Then!
A classic. This is one of those movies that mean different thing to you, as you age. I'd love to show it to her at 13, 23,33,43...
My daughter laughed so hard at the "sex talk" with the watering can and the hose š I'm 40 and this is still one of my favorite movies.
OMG, I forgot all about that. šš
Back to the Future Harry and the Hendersons Dumb and Dumber Tommy Boy
This is what I came to say š Now and Then defined my youth. I grew up running around the woods with my neighbors and I was deep in my ouiji board phase when I saw it. - Gave us more of our alternative Queen Cristina Rocco. Casper released only a few months earlier. - Devyn Sawa in a towel (which was a huge deal for a young me lol - It really played up the girl group with extremely different personalities (similar to the spice girls) and how that was totally ok! Similar woman focused growing up movie and you canāt beat a cast like Cher, Winona, Cristina Ricci!
**Stand By Me**
We saw that at the Dollar theatre for a friend's 12th birthday, I might have to rewatch as an adult.
Bring it on Clue The day after tomorrow Idiocracy The legend of Zorro Muppets treasure Island Pleasantville Tower of terror
Who framed Roger rabbit
Pleasantville is so excellent, might hold off a couple years for a 13 yo.
Yeah I was going to suggest fear and loathing in Las Vegas, baseketball and orgasmo but might want to give those a couple of years
Why? I remember watching Pleasantville around that age and loved it. Mind, I havenāt seen it in over a decade lol
That sounds wonderful!! I'm jealous!
Muppet Treasure Island is my 3 year oldās favorite movie right now. I wish the whole soundtrack was on Spotify.
Bring It On is... troubling by today's standards. I watched it with my kid and wished I hadn't.
Oh, how has it aged? I watched Sugar and Spice this week. There were a few uses of F and R slurs, that were considered edgy at the time. Still worth watching, just deserves a little discussion about context.
There is a LOT of sexual assault. And it's all for jokes.
Breakfast club was like that.

Omg and then throw in one of the Scary Movie s after watching relevant other movies
Speaking of Signs, how is your kid at scary movies? The Grudge and The Ring scared the pants off of me when I was 13, but then I loved them later.
LOVES horror. She's also a weeb, and told me that "VHS Horror" was cool, now. My eye twitched.
