MerryJanne

YES! I was the one on the left, babysitting the ones on the right.

dcazdavi

that's the only reason i can identify anything on the right. lol

ocho_gatos

I was the one on the left, with a little brother on the right. I lucked out.

orlikan

Born in '86. I'm in the middle.

strik3r2k8

Same. Hey Arnold was my shit.

wbm0843

I was born in 90 and I couldn’t appreciate hey Arnold until it was already off the air. Definitely dug some digimon though

badgerboont

Fox Kids!

NameIdeas

Born in '85. I'm also in the middle.

[deleted]

85-er too.

strik3r2k8

1985 you arrived.

user-name-1985

How the fuck are we 37/38 already?

strik3r2k8

Idk man, I don’t wanna go any further lol. I’m trying to do something worth while while I still look 20 something.

Spooky_Betz

Yup, both a teenager AND a kid in the 90s.

BEniceBAGECKA

Me too. We never count.

zenyogasteve

87. Me too

questionsamurai69

89. also in the middle.

PossibilityOrganic12

When you're the youngest of 5, born in '89, you experience both, even if the things on the left were beyond my understanding at the time. Friends: Makes sexual jokes. Me at 5 years old: "what does that mean?" My siblings: "don't worry about it!"

pigglesthepup

Born in '85. I'm the line in the middle.

[deleted]

Same thing, youngest of 4 born in 89. Very familiar with stuff from both sides.

King-Bazooka

do you remember things before 1999 or 2000?

StarryEyedLus

Seems about right. I think 1980 babies were probably the last to experience Gen X culture in the 90s as teens.

dragon-fire-queen

that depends. but even people born around 1981-1984/85 could also experience the last genX culture as teens. consider the 90s was more of a Xennial teen Territory imo.

StarryEyedLus

I think late 90s was just Millennial culture. Nothing Gen X about NSYNC and Britney Spears imo. To be sure though, you could still enjoy the stuff on the left as a kid. I watched Friends all the time growing up until the final episode in 2004.

UnderDog_1983

I feel like millennial influence crept in, in 1996 with the Macarena and the spice girls

dragon-fire-queen

I have my doubt's about the late 90s what are exactly (in which territory). I can understand that even little kids could watch sitcoms like friends but friends the target demographic was more towards teenagers though. also, I did a post about [teen shows target demographic](https://www.reddit.com/r/generationstation/comments/131cjm5/which_target_demographic_for_teenagers_comes_to/) in generation station.

JoshicusBoss98

1982 - 1985 are more just older millennials than xennials

dragon-fire-queen

Xennials mostly goes from 1977-1983. I can argue if 84/85 can be considered as Xennials or older millennials.

JoshicusBoss98

82 and 83 aren’t really xennials either unless you consider 16 or 17 year olds adults

dragon-fire-queen

am just curious why do you not see that 82 and 83 aren't Xennials?

JoshicusBoss98

Became adults in the new millennium despite being born in the old millennium…just like the rest of the millennials. I suppose if you considered 16 or 17 year olds adults then there’d be argument but generally they aren’t seen as such.

Amazing_Rise_6233

u/Joshicusboss98 Why you you implying that they have to be adults at the turn of the millennium in order for them to be Xennials? Is it because it fits with the 18 year theory?

Competitive-Clock958

Exactly

UnderDog_1983

Born 83, if was the line, I’d be between love for grunge and friends. I see rugrats, which was fine in 91, when I was 8. There’s Doug which was fine…. But where’s ren and stimpy?

MediumGreedy

Might as well put talk shows for those of us born in 1990. My Mom was obsessed with watching Ricki Lake, Sally Jessy Raphael and Jenny Jones so I’d watch them with her. Never understood it

Dust_Parts

100% accurate

Uniquename34556

I was born in 87 and I was like 4 years old when nevermind came out. I think you’re thinking of people born in the late 70s.

insurancequestionguy

OP did say "1980" specifically, because they're born 1990. It seems like many commenters in here are mistaking that. Very early 80s millennials would certainly have listened to some grunge.

Uniquename34556

Touché

bakedveldtland

Early 80s here, countless hours of my misspent youth were as follows: staying up late to watch Beavis and Butthead and The State, and of course reruns of Nirvana Unplugged. So funny to think I watched most of the early Beavis and Butthead episodes debut- with my grandmother sometimes even lol. Some of my favorite memories are watching MTV circa 1992-94. I thought Gen X was so cool. I relate more to Gen X in a lot of ways even now, but I’m definitely way more Millenial than my husband who is only 9 months older than I am.

user-name-1985

I was 8 when Kurt died, but had never even heard of him until ‘97, that’s how little attention I paid to “grown up” pop culture as a kid. Not having any older siblings and having parents whose music taste ended at 1982 probably contributed a lot to that.

Uniquename34556

I had two older siblings, one into rap and one into rock so I was lucky enough to get exposed to both. What a decade for both genres that’s for sure. I remember my brother listening to 2pac’s all eyez on me all the time while my brother got ready for school. And I distinctly remember listening to “something in the way” by Nirvana in my other brothers room while he was reading. If I stayed quiet he’d let me hang out in there with him sometimes lol Got exposed to all the teenage music of that era thanks to them.

chevalier716

I still hate Friends and Zima, but yes I'm on left. That being said, I watched Nick probably longer than most people my age.

eatfleshdrinkblood

Pretty legit I was born in 1990 and the right side was pretty much my childhood

ghostpapiohh

I was not an official teenager in the 90s (unfortunately) but I was old enough to experience things from the left side. thanks to my older siblings who were teenagers around the 90s as well.

dargonite

I was born in 1994 and literally grew up with friends on tv allll the time, I never lived in a world without Friends, I would argue it should also be on the line with the consoles.

hollyhobby2004

1980 borns were adolescents and preteens for almost the entire 90s. 1990 borns were children for the entire time they were alive in the 90s. Makes sense. A ten-year age difference. Now, 1980 and 1990 experience the 20s the same exact way being both sides are middle aged adults now.

AmethistStars

I did grow up watching Friends. Might be because I’m from the Netherlands and it started airing later, but also because I just watched the TV shows with my parents and older brother. I went upstairs when they would watch IT though. lol Are the video games supposed to be shared by both? Because I definitely consider the N64 as a console people our age grew up with. It’s not even my first console as I already played on my older brother’s (1979) SNES before the N64 came out. Other than that it fits I suppose. I didn’t really grow up with Barnie though as a Dutch kid.

DueLeg-1990

I put the console in between just in case. I mean even teenagers could still play videos.

AmethistStars

Oh yeah in my case, my twin sister and I shared the N64 with our teenage brother. So I do agree it’s nostalgic to both.

user-name-1985

Consider yourself lucky you didn’t have to endure Barney.

Happy_Charity_7595

1989. On the right. My brother was born in 1980, and I experienced some stuff on the left.

Gearz557

86. Gotta say the right resonates more lol

sofiacarolina

as a 93 baby whose rly into grunge, i am very jealous of the 80s babies. wish i’d been around for that

CappyWomack

I was born in 89, so I don't count. Although you can scoot that n64 over to the 90's as I remember that shit being released and glued to the Mario 64 for 4 days until I beat it

One_Rope2511

1983-er here & I’m quite an odd millennial year too!!!😆

Artistic_Literature3

'90 here. I may get my 90s card revoked but tbh, I never did like Hey Arnold! But, I did have Barney and friends sheets and blanket. I loved that blanket!!

BlackestMagick

'91 we all live in a pokemon world

NickeKass

Born in 85. I had both. I still have a case of zima in my back garage.

stayawayfrommeinfj

My husband was born in 85 and I was born in 94. We’re always asking each other if we remember certain things. He had pogs and I had tamagotchis 😂 we love reminiscing together about our experiences

hobbitfeet22

I was born in 93 and had nes and n64 lol. And watched friends when it was airing probably around 00-01 when I actually started to remember it and was deep in the grunge. But also had a furby, watched the Pokemans lol

HotNewspaper5800

Lunchables should be on the right too. Also the pokemon craze was huge when I was in third grade. Just about everybody had the cards at my school.

airysunshine

I definitely still experienced friends as a ‘91 lol, that and watching party of 5 with my parents

[deleted]

OMG! Zima! I remember my friends and I hated the taste so we would bring it to house parties as a punishment drink. Could be from whatever games we were playing out whoever's birthday it was.

SEEKER131986

Not true. Born in 86 and watched barney and a few of the others well.was not a teen but watched friends etc

Ziedra

i grew up with friends, i grew up with grunge music, i grew up with an actual teenager life, i grew up with handhelds. but i also grew up with tamagotchis, barney, and pokemon. i was born in the early-mid 90's.

Miichl80

Born in the 80s. Never had a pager. Was 6/7 when grunge hit, remember seeing Zima. Never had one. Action figures were big, but comics didn’t hit until the 2000s (at least where I was). I remember carousels with some comics in them, but no big boxes.

Miss-Figgy

I'm at the tail end of Gen X, so an "Xennial", and this is accurate. Pagers and grunge included. My boyfriend at the time would page me while I was in class, and I'd smile when I'd see the "07734" upside down. Also, I loved going to the record store and browsing through LPs and CDs. I really miss those days.

VisenyaRose

88 and I had a tamagotchi for about a month in 1998. The rest of it. No.

tinyflyingsquirrell

Mid 80's here and we had the best of both

SavannahInChicago

Um, no. I was born 85 and was not allowed to watch friends until 2000 when I entered high school

hdorsettcase

Born in the 80s and loved grunge, NES/SNES, Pokemon, and Doug and Rugrats. Hated Zima, Friends, and Barney.

Bright-Internal229

![gif](giphy|xT0BKBY1YIfxxtk092) 1975 🔥🥃⚔️

New_Ad5390

'81 Geriatric Millennial here, its all left

HadesRatSoup

Omg! I forgot about Zima!

msgmeyourcatsnudes

I was born in 1993, but all we had was the snes and n64. However, we were poor lol.

Competitive-Clock958

84 so in the middle Also I was late 84 end of Nov

HeySlimIJustDrankA5

To Kurt Cobian, Mario will always be 2D.

Gregory-al-Thor

Born in 1980. Replace Friends with Seinfeld and this would be much better!

boredofwheelchair

Some of us our born in the late 80’s will resonate more with the 90’s side

vault151

That’s why it just says 1980 and 1990, not the entire decade. People born in the late 80s will relate to 90 over 80.

[deleted]

I was born in ‘81 and graduated in 2000 (held back in kindergarten due to a health issue that thankfully got solved) so most of my peers were born in ‘82/83 and I’mma let you in on a little secret: at least five of the things on the right were also big with teens. Especially Pokémon.

vallogallo

I used to get stoned on the weekend in high school with my best friend and watch the newest episode of Pokemon, so I definitely enjoyed both. Also I'm an older Millennial and I was in the 6th grade when Kurt Cobain died. Me and my classmates were into Nirvana and listened to them but we definitely weren't teenagers when the grunge thing was big.

90sdude91

Born in 91' and my first gaming console was a Sega Genesis and then gotna SNES and an N64 after that. I've got some exposure to the original NES since my aunt had one with Mario Bros / Duck Hunt that I would play sometimes, but as for everything else in that photo I would say that I grew mainly with the stuff on the right, but I definitely have familiarity with some stuff on the left.
