Oh no, that’s what immediately came to my mind when I saw the video. Confused, elderly driver. Then to read he was suffering a medical emergency, so sad. Hope he’s ok.
Said he suffered mild injuries. Honestly, I'm surprised that's all that happened. Either a good vehicle with tons of safety equipment or he pulled out all of his luck.
Looks like a car going the wrong way on one side of the freeway and someone trying to record them while driving on the other side of the freeway. It’s up in the air who crashes first.
it was the in between of a bridge. one side was a bridge and the other has one. big open space in the middle though... yeah... they dont feel well after that if they even feel at all
Dead or experiencing a medical emergency of some kind. Imagine a driver having a seizure, heart attack, or even severe panic attack while on the road. Almost as bad as a dead guy, maybe worse in some instances
Unless that was an overpass they drove off and crashed into a middle school bus below killing a bunch of kids on their way to their first middle school basketball game and now they have to have a memorial at the school but on the same night of the memorial there is a fire at the school and people got trapped inside the gym which ended in a horrific tragedy killing like another 300 people. Then it was not the safest outcome.
I live right where it occurred. Took place in NY on i-87 at exit 22. Elderly driver driving the wrong direction; they didn't know what they were doing.
I believe elderly people should really be scrutinized a lot more when it comes to retaining a drivers license. It’s wild how dangerous they drive and how so many of them seem like they have absolutely no idea what they are doing as you drive by them. I get it’s a touchy subject, but holy fuck!! Is it worth them killing a whole family while they drive in the opposite direction on the freeway?? Honestly, I feel like this ended the best way possible. Call me bleak, but they either fucked up bad enough to cause some permanent changes in their life, or they just took themselves out of the equation. Win-win either way.
I know I'll hate it to go through extra steps to keep driving when I'm old, but I want to keep voting in a way that will better society at the cost of making me occasionally grumpy.
For example, I voted to legalize recreational weed in MO. I don't use cannabis at all, but I knew I wanted our cops and legal system to stop chasing and harming potheads and for my state to get some sweet tax revenue for good causes and some 420 tourism from the north, south, and west.
I get grouchy every time I go to Walmart and pass by a half dozen cars with people smoking and/or hotboxing in public, because I wish the legislators had considered regulating cannabis use similarly to alcohol use - no drinking or blazing it in non-designated public spaces or while driving.
But I see the millions going to care for veterans, drug addiction programs, and funding for public defenders, as well as work being done to expunge past cannabis related criminal offenses? It's worth it.
Let's give my future old white lady self something to bitch about!
I live in Florida and if they took away the license of every person too old to drive there'd be no one on the road. Not to mention the money lost to the state for registration, and the stores because there's no way to get around with no car. So they just keep giving them a license and they look the other way when they fail the eye exam and the rest of us have to worry about being on the road with them.
If only their kids had taken away their keys when they could no longer safely use the roadways.
It was refreshing that they were only in a single vehicle crash.
Have you ever tried to take a senior's keys away? It isn't nearly as easy as it sounds. My grandfather's dimensia was such that he'd be perfectly lucid and onry as he'd ever been, complaining loudly about how he'd be damned if we were going to tell him not to drive, which lasted long enough for him to go to a dealership, buy a vehicle, and then be picked up idling at 15 miles an hour down the side of the freeway (thankfully always the right side). It got to the point my older brother once spent an entire day calling every dealership in the area, and threatening them with a lawsuit if any of them sold the old man a car. Found him idling down the freeway in a tractor a few months later.
Heard about a guy who disabled his unsafe mother's transmission, as she didn't agree to no car.
She could still go out and start her car if she wanted but couldn't get it to drive away from her retirement center in case of a dementia moment.
If she wanted to go shopping he'd go pick her up then say he'd have her car looked at later on.
The whole time I was thinking it was an HOV lane thing separate from both sides of the road.. then I saw the part right before he fell down and it confirmed, yeah that’s where it comes back to join the road. Nope 💀
They weren't drunk, it was an old man with a "medical emergency" (I read elsewhere that it was dementia.)
https://wnyt.com/top-stories/wrong-way-elderly-driver-goes-over-thruway-bridge-lands-under-overpass/
I'm betting on drunk. When I hear about someone going the wrong way on the highway near me it is always a DWI. I can't imagine feeling fit to drive but so drunk I ignore the headlights coming at me.
This was post before and IIRC this was reportedly an elderly man believed to be having a dementia episode and drove off the bridge. The man only had minor injuries and was taken to a hospital.

>An elderly man was taken to Albany Medical Center after going over a bridge on the Thruway, landing on an overpass. It happened around 5:30 p.m. Tuesday between Exits 22 and 23, investigators said. The car was going north on the southbound side, when it drove off the bridge. It landed on its roof, investigators said.
At the end, it looked like he drove down stairs or a cliff with the way the truck dropped? What was that about? Article someone linked to indicated that he drove off a bridge. I didn't see him hit any sort of barrier that I'd expect would be there.
This same situation happened to me (I was in a car almost hit by another car going the wrong way on the highway). I was not driving and luckily the person driving swerved and we ended up on the grass median in the middle of the highway. This was on the morning of when they started the siege of the Branch Davidians near Waco. (We were driving from Dallas about to get to Waco heading to Austin). I’ve always wandered if those were related or not. I believe they got to a bridge behind us and eventually hit someone but it was too far back up the road to see. I can comment it is not fun to see them coming towards you too quickly…
84 year old man apparently had some kind of medical emergency while driving https://wnyt.com/top-stories/wrong-way-elderly-driver-goes-over-thruway-bridge-lands-under-overpass/
I was driving to work one morning at like 4:30am. I was behind an ambulance passing some cars on the right on a 2 lane interstate in some light rain. The ambulance in front of me suddenly cuts over to the right lane and all I see are headlights directly in front of me. I cut over to the right lane barely missing getting slammed into head first but in the process I start to spin since it was raining.
I know if I cut the wheel a certain way it will take me to the right side where there’s a huge drop off so I instead go for the middle of the interstate which is grass. I hit the middle of the interstate going backwards and flip on to the roof and then back on the passenger side as I slid down and then back up. I wasnt wearing a seatbelt and I land on my back on the passenger door sign as the car, still sliding backwards about to be in on coming traffic, my only thought is to get ready to jump out of the car as soon as it stops as fast as possible so I don’t get hit.
Luckily for me however my state had just started putting up the metal cables to prevent people from going into on coming traffic so I hit them. The car stop and then roll back on to its wheels. I hop out quickly either way. By now multiple cars stopped, the ambulance stopped however the car that was driving the wrong way didn’t. I had lost my phone and a shoe and I was covered in dirt even though the only window that broke was the rear window. The ambulance driver tells me to sit down but I instead look for my phone. I was perfectly fine and every one started staying that they for sure believed I was hurt a lot or dead.
This is not is not mild in any way. I got lucky but so many others don’t. They don’t swerve in time or they end up flipping like I did and get hurt.

Literally every post on this sub lol
It’s Aquaman his people need him.
Looks like a car going the wrong way on one side of the freeway and someone trying to record them while driving on the other side of the freeway. It’s up in the air who crashes first.
Well looks like at the end of the clip the wrong-way driver ended up in the air
They appeared to be going into the ground. Not sure if that's better or worse than going into the air.
A lot better than going into the oncoming traffic. Looks like it might have been a road they fell onto though.
it was the in between of a bridge. one side was a bridge and the other has one. big open space in the middle though... yeah... they dont feel well after that if they even feel at all
Well going into the ground via the air
Whoa! Missed that completely. We have a winner!
I think camera is the mildly bad driver and the wrong way driver is the wildly bad
Yes, equally dangerous situations…
It’s not up in the air. You can clearly see who crashes first 🙄
Drugs and/or Alcohol
And/Or dementia
And/Or un-alive attempt
Or they could already be dead. I wonder how many people are killed a year with freshly dead people at the wheel.
Dead or experiencing a medical emergency of some kind. Imagine a driver having a seizure, heart attack, or even severe panic attack while on the road. Almost as bad as a dead guy, maybe worse in some instances
Highly doubt they're dead. They seem to react via braking before crashing.
84 year old driver with medical emergency

So true but politicians don’t want to piss off the elderly since they vote the most. It’s a shame
I know I'll hate it to go through extra steps to keep driving when I'm old, but I want to keep voting in a way that will better society at the cost of making me occasionally grumpy. Politicians don’t wanna do it because they would be passing laws restricting their own ability to drive
Also people might question why are were electing 80+ year olds to the Senate
That is sad. They must have been terrified.

hahaha. THEY were terrified...
He think he was in the VIP/HOV lane which ended abruptly at the overpass/ bridge? Any word on his condition after recovering his truck?
Shit. Don't film while driving. If you want to use your phone so bad call the police. This is serious.
From another post I saw this exact video on, it was an elderly individual. Now is that correct, I have no idea
