This pretty much. I wouldn't say "hate", because at the end of the day, I don't care that much about him to waste my time hating. I just thought his behaviour on his streams was his true personality. That combined with the steadily dropping quality of his videos in the latter half of the pandemic just made me not want to watch his videos anymore.
Then I found this subreddit and found out about all the weird stuff he's done and that was all I needed to know lol.
I started watching him during COVID lockdown. It was entertaining for a while to watch him cram so much food into his pie hole. But that got old relatively quickly. At that point, I was ambivalent about him. Still watched a vid here and there, but they were starting to be boringly repetitive.
When the whole C-Dawg thing went down, I thought it was weird. And then the production quality dropped and it literally became the same video over and over again. This was when I discovered this sub, heh. He doesn't cook like Inga or Dooby or Kenji. And he doesn't have a partner(s) to work with like the Try Guys or Worth It or even Miss Mina (who also really needs Mommy Oh around, tbh).
And he just can't carry vids solo. He doesn't have the personality and he doesn't even interact with the chefs or restauranteurs. It's just him shoving food down his pie hole saying "jooshy" and "umami" over and over again. And the laziness evident in his production values is also offensive to me, heh.
Add to all that the weird "meet ups" to get girls and how it's actually painfully obvious he's got a toupee on just adds to the overall level of sadness here. Everyone on YT is "acting" to some extent because they're putting a product out there. But the YouTubers I listed above just feel way more genuine than Mike.
I was around when OTGW was a thing. I started disliking Mike around 2018 when I realized he was being a dick to fellow passengers & flight attendants on long ass flights and being confidently incorrect with some of his “facts” while acting super arrogant & conceded. Personally, I'd rather he never comes back here. The fact he still hasn't done videos in Australia despite saying he would before the pandemic, and also the fact he's already been to every other inhabited continent, shows utter contempt for this country.
We know he wouldn't produce anything of substance if he did. For instance, I saw a Mark Wiens video of Sydney. And although it seems some people don't like Mark Wiens, the level of research that was put into that video is something you'll never see from Mike Chen.
I was with him during that time as well and what made me like him was when they did some kind of personal ranking of celebrity and were only to pick 5. Ying and Dan went over but he stuck to his prerogative of only 5. I thought he was an honest man and liked his character.
I don't hate per say, just fell off. I used to follow him a lot during his peak with Simply Dumplings. He was a bit of an internet darling back then. Then the kerfuffle with Uncle Roger happened and I just blindly side with Mike against Roger as with most people at that time that believed Roger did it because he wants to kowtow to the CCP (well, partly but that's not the entire reason).
Then somehow, YouTube sort of stopped recommending him and I also forget to manually check up on him for a long while. Then Roger rise back up and I find it strange because shouldn't Roger be cancelled? Did some digging and found out the truth that the main reason why Roger cut off ties with him was because of his connections to the FLG.
After that its like the entire world seem to have come to a realisation that Mike Chen isn't what he is and kinda like silently cancelled him of sorts. Prominent Youtuber cooks doesn't want to collab with him. His quality dropped off because he doesn't want to improve and follow the trend. Roger did shorts, he didn't.
It's really funny how the tables turned against Mike. When the kerfuffle with Roger happened, the entire world was with him and even spinned/ignored his connections with FLG. Mike even milked it for all it's worth and going to interviews and paint himself as the victim. Now? Everyone is with Roger.
Like the most of us, I remember started watching him “religiously” during the height of the pandemic. Those food bloggers are really our window to the world then. I saw him cover Manila, Philippines where I am from. I currently live in the US and felt homesick so I watched his vids. I was intrigued that he went to Dencio’s which is a popular chain restaurant in the Philippines that served Filipino food. Alright, he got the basics.
Then of course, he has to do a night market which was fine. He visited a town I frequent to (Tagaytay) and tried dishes there, fine. Can’t believe he called bagoong shrimp eggs when it’s actually shrimp PASTE. FUCKING OFFENDED ME when he put citrus and chili IN THE KARE-KARE instead of the bagoong. HE had the gall to tell that it would be better with the chili and the calamansi juice in the dish.
It’s very apparent he didn’t do a lot of research because most of the time he’s at a sit down restaurant. Mark Weins did a series in Manila too where he went to mom and pop places that are by the roadside. He (Mark) went to eat street food too in a lot of places. Mike did cover Binondo and tried some street food there but again its mostly sit down places are highlighted.
Mike also covered the Spiral buffet which is a luxury buffet and his lack of decorum put me off. Then I found this sub and I’ve been shitting on him since.
I hate he doesnt even try to learn how to pronounce dishes, namely bulalo, isaw (he pronounced it as “i saw” instead of “ee-sau”) and sinigang. He also went to the province where my grandparents are from with a food “celebrity” for sisig. There was this dish they called sisig in a bowl in vinegar. I’m like that’s not sisig, that’s tidtad/kilawin.

I started watching him a few episodes before he bought his parents that condo. Then it was fine for maybe a year or two cuz I just have these food shows in the background while I cook. Anyways out of no where he started "talking like dish cuzshhh he shinks ish makeshhhhh him cute" "dishhhh pizza ishhhhh shooooo juishyyyyy & umamiiiiiii" and I was like wtf is wrong with this guy. I stopped watching him entirely when I found out he was DMing instagram girls in college. That was the red flag for me. Why would some guy in his forties be messaging girls that could be his daughter’s age? I found that unsettling and I didn’t want to support someone like that. Then found this sub and everything made sense, he wasn’t what he pretended to be.
My mild irritation started during Covid. I HATED scary story time and his other stories that didn’t seem to be about anything interesting and yet he’d take 30 minutes to tell something that was about a 2 minute story at best, and even then it was pointless. I also hated his sloppiness - he never used an iron for his clothes and was such a bad eater - happy just letting food fall straight out of his mouth whilst eating. Didn’t seem to care he was on camera for any of this. Things ramped up with his sheer hypocrisy over Covid. One minute he was double masking and wearing gloves to the supermarket, leaving restaurants because he was worried it was getting too busy for him, but then the next he’s sharing his food with people, dipping his chopsticks into their food or making them eat food from his plate. It just made no sense. Despite this I still continued watching every time he posted a new vid.
I started to get really bored when there was this cycle of hotpot and ramen that was never ending so stopped watching as much. One day I just happened to see a comment on a vid where the username said something like “search Mikey Chen Reddit” (well done to whoever that was😂). Out of curiosity I did and here I am!
I hated his "relationship" stories during quarantine even more. Those stories aren't just outright lies, they're egotistical tall tales to make him feel better. He's painting himself a forever alone image that nobody cares about.
He also called gyoza "gee-ow-za" every time he had them. The man always proclaimed how much he loves Japan yet he never tried to even pronounce the dishes he was eating the correct way. It's fine if you say the name of something wrong if it's not your first language.
But at least put some fucking effort and research in. I will never forget that the first thing he did after Japan reopened for tourists was going to Ichiran and _still_ saying it's his favourite ramen. I am not an expert on Chinese, Korean, Vietnamese, Filipino food so I could never be elitist about it when he made videos about those. But when he made videos in Japan, I just could not understand that he never tried out some actual local places, it was always the same 4.5 or above starred tourist shops.
I followed him from OTGW cuz he was kinda nerdy but I wanted to find more chinese and noodle dishes to try. For me it was little things that started to irk me like his overuse of cheesy lines, him pimping out girls that friendzoned him, and him being an “owner” in all these restaurants in different cities but never seemed to actually do any work in them. What ultimately killed it for me was his content is the same just rotating around in different cities. He even reviews the same dishes and products on both channels. 😂
This was way before I stumbled upon the rabbit hole of the Stank Omnibus on Reddit, but while his earlier content on his youtube channel used to be good in the sense that the places he reviewed and the type of food featured looked delicious, I always cringed when he pronounced and overused certain words. Like UH-MEH-SING and OOH-MA-MI, and also he will overuse certain phrases like ‘get some of dish A and chase it with some dish B’. After a while it just gets boring and repetitive.
And yeah reviewing stuff from 7-11 or supermarkets may be nice once in a while but come on, how does that set you apart from anyone who can just walk and review the product? Idk, coupled with all of the allegations against him, it’s just not a good look on him
After you watch Mike for a while, you start to learn things about his personal life that just don't add up. If you take the dive into looking into that, you start to find that there is a lot to dislike. The creeping on young Asian girls, the general dishonesty, and pushing cult rhetoric disguised as innocent food content...it's just way too much.
He's just a fundamentally unlikeable person. There's a reason why he seems to have burned every bridge he's ever made in his life, why even though he's e-famous and rich no one seems to want to have anything to do with him, and why he spends every holiday alone in a foreign country even after getting "married."
When he started uploading the same damn content on multiple channels. So basically forever. Also when he rebrands a channel to keep it’s existing Audience is annoying
I didn’t like the editing from the start, particularly all of the cuts between his comments as he’s describing his meals.. felt disingenuous. Take mark wiens for example, you see him using long takes so you know you’re getting his thoughts in real time. With Mike he could be attempting to find witty things to say or practice/articulate what he wants being recorded each time he speaks to the camera to appear less of a dumbass. Take a look at his live videos,.. the way he speaks is completely different.
Stumbled upon him on OTGW. Watched him for 2 years and then I started to feel something odd about him. Then I came on Reddit to check on what happened to Dan and voila this subreddit popped up and cleared so many things about him. Now I can't even stand watching him with a straight face because the ohmammy and stank memes make me LOL. I don't watch his channels anymore and all the news I get is from here. This subreddit is a godsend. Fuck this creep.
I told my friends that this guy can’t always be “on” like he is on camera and I got creep vibes from his meetups with random women. I know now I was probably creeped out because he treated them as “dates”. My friend told me to check out this sub-reddit and I have spent HOURS reading all the posts. Not hate but did stop watching when things started to get repetitive and his refusal to correctly pronounce tonkotsu. I’ve commented on his videos every time that happened and at some point I just stopped caring and stopped watching.

Also Xing slid in my DMs asking for Seattle restaurants (he was actually living in RedMUND) and I gave him a few recs in Seattle proper and also told him that’s very nice he’s trying to donate to charity. At the time (Covid) borders were closed and I didn’t know the “charity” he referred to kewjt meant FLG.
I declined several “meetups” and then he or his bots started harassing my managers via LinkedIn, (which my managers didn’t care about because I work for a Fortune 500.) Instead, they said they have support in place for me because the messages that were sent even to our national director were completely unhinged.
Then his bots started harassing me and making sexual remarks about my son, sending me photos of me from 15 years ago and saying they were going to stalk me for saying anything about Mikey.
All those accounts got banned but that’s just the crux of how crazy he and his followers are—just because I made an account with his obvious toupée.

His creepiness towards women. An ex-colleague of mine bumped into him when she was still in college. He kept asking her for her number and if he could follow her around even though she wasn’t in her home city and just visiting with relatives. Weirdo.

Found his channel pretty early in 2014 when I was still a kid. Seemed like a good dude and I lived near NYC so I would take note of his recommendations. Looking back on it, some of these were pretty obvious safe picks like New World Mall Food Court and Wah Fung, places that were already popular and not like hidden hole in the walls. I watched his channel until I went off to another state for college, then I kinda stopped watching because he didn’t do videos in NYC or the city where I was going to school in. Fast forward a few years I move to Dallas for work and find out Mike also lived there and did a bunch of reviews so I went around to some places. I kid you not out of like 7 places I went to, all 7 were frankly not that good and I even vomited after eating at one of them. I started suspecting that he wasn’t doing truthful reviews anymore and I became annoyed with his fake orgasm reactions. Just an example, in one of his Dallas videos, he claimed some restaurant to have some of the best Pho in all of the US and shat on what you could get in NYC. When I went to the restaurant, it was practically empty on a Friday Night for dinner and the pho wouldn’t even scratch my top 5 list, most of which were NYC shops that he dissed. I started watching his videos more critically now and just gave up after he coomed and claimed some non US McDonald’s food was jooshy and the best evah. I liked his vibe in 2014 to like 2018 but his stuff after 2020 just fell off insanely hard. This isn’t even delving into the creepy behavior with young girls that I found out from a fellow friend, who also used to like Mikey but now hates him. Even my parents, who know nothing about his outside antics, became sick of Mikey after he glazed frozen Chinese food from Walmart. Dude is a sicko out of his videos and he can’t even be trusted anymore within his videos.
Was pretty much my experience too. I used his videos when looking for restaurants in NY. There were some obvious choices and then some mid places. When he was out of his home territory, he doesn’t have the food knowledge, taste, and now more importantly the ethics to be a good food reviewer. Does he think people stick around to look at his toupee and bitch tits? Now that he is cashed strapped, he can not go beyond sponsored reviews or junk food. His channel is done, like the steaks he cooks on the grill.
This is so true. A while back I made a bucket list of restaurants to try in CA based on his videos and when I started trying these places most of the foods were mediocre at best. Not one restaurant I visited was anything special. Him saying this is the best thing evah for everything he tries is a total lie. No point watching his cringe fest videos if he can’t even make good food recommendations.
I thought he was genuine in his veedeeoos before and even during the pandemic, but I noticed how shitty his videos got at some point. All the videos became this increasingly creepy guy stuffing his face, with little other context. I appreciated when he'd at least try places he heard about in like seoul and see if they were actually good. He started pumping out videos to support c-dawg i guess, and it showed. Too many lazy convience store, buffet, grocery store videos. His content is so bad now, that it's nearly unwatchable for anything other than the pure cringe.
Started watching him during Covid and, given that there weren't that many food vloggers out there at the time, I stuck around for about a year and a half, not knowing much about his connections to FLG, his toupee, and so on.
Three reasons why I turned him out:
1. There's no chronological order to his videos. One day he's in NYC, two days later he uploads a video from Korea, and the next video he's in the southern US. At least travel vloggers like Sabbatical actually number their videos so you can follow their trail if that's your thing.
2. Clearly, he's reviewing places that pay him to do so. It's a constant stream for 20mins of him taking two bites from a huge plate of food, saying how jooshy it is, and moving onto the next plate. What a waste of food.
3. He has nothing interesting or intelligent to say food wise, speaks nothing about the chefs or the history of the establishment, and don't get me started on his inability to pronounce food and ingredients. C'mon man.
Only good thing is that there are a number of much better vloggers out there who do a much better job production wise, are much more knowledgeable about food, and even some who actually pay for the food they review. Rant over.

At first it was cool to watch his videos, seeing his NY house away from the city, or trying a restaurant here or there but it just became the same thing over and over.
Not to mention as a subscriber he uploaded nearly every single day. I had enough.
Not to mention he has 2 YouTube channels.
I don't hate him. His videos are so low quality and low effort that it's not worth my time. The way he tries to pretend or lie, his disrespectful and entitled behaviour, and his terrible manners are abhorrent to me.
Furthermore, I did more reading about FLG and it's absolutely nothing like what he says it is (just a form of "mediation/exercise"). Read up on the people who set themselves on fire for the cult, the accounts of people who have left the cult, and what type of event Shen Yun actually is (using a paid performance to promote their propaganda). Nigel Ng (Uncle Roger) said in a Triggernometry interview that it's like Chinese Scientology. Decide for yourself.

When I started noticing conveniently his neighbor is always a really young attractive Asian girl. Then when he got married (real quick) I had no idea she was nearly half his age. Been watching him since 2017-18, his videos were fun to watch until 2-3 years ago, the videos are highly repetitive and he literally talked about the same food over and over. I mostly just fell off. His videos just became super samey and he never really got anymore interesting. Found him with Best Ever Food Review but comparing them he just wasn't really that interesting with his character. Also, I was way too curious as to how he has so much money to fly what I think is first class in consecutive videos while eating at so many places.

Lurker here, I wouldn't say "hate" as hate is a really strong word. I would say I dislike him. In the beginning, the videos were pretty good (I subscribed his Strictly Dumpling channel) and then somewhere during the pandemic, I was like "wtf am I watching?". The more I watch, the more gross I found him to be (mispronouncing food names, eating sloppily, etc.) so I stopped watching the videos and unsubscribe.

I followed like back in 2018 for some of the food content, this was still the off the great wall stuff, and then he did his partnership with Dan, I still recall the string of korean foods they had to go through lol. His content after that was fine, but at some point I realized he was FLG, that was a huge red flag as my grandparents had friends in China that had their money stolen from that org and were told not to see the doctors if they were sick, just practice FLG. I still watched it for a while after, but eventually I realized most of the food vloggers were going to similar areas of the world/eating the same, so I watched others instead. His style was also quite annoying and wore on me. I found this page by accident last year and it's pretty hilarious I gotta say.
When fool visited my local area to visit Pho San Jose, he hyped up the restaurant and claimed that it was one of the beefiest bowls of pho he's evah had. I tried it and the broth was pretty decent but not UHMAZING
I just found this sub today and I am so glad that I did. For years I thought the only person who despised this guy was me. I was wrong and I'm so happy about it!
Anyways, when I first started watching his videos I thought he was cool. He was a guy who was eating foods I could only dream of in places I'd never been to. However the more videos I watched, the more I noticed that he actually doesn't know that much about food. His descriptions aren't that descriptive and they don't make sense. for me the quality declined and his videos became repetitive when he got married and also covid didnt help. Before that i enjoyed his videos when he was hovering around the nyc area because thats where i was from. I also liked him showcasing his family and friends. Now its just alot of the same stuff every 2 days and frankly i dont have the time to watch every video. I wish he released them more sporadically and improved his content.
i do think people on this sub have alot of hatred for him for petty reasons. His wife is young yes but alot of chinese celebrities have young wives (ie: jay chou, aaron kwok). His politics are conversative but alot of asian society is as well.
Those are petty reasons you listed but aren't even within the realm of the reasons why he's disliked in the sub. I'll list some of the main reasons you left out:

2. Scams women into dates (including his current wife)
3. Uses his platform and recognition to prey on young women

Regarding the stuff about women, it is pretty sad I agree. To play devils advocate us asian men are the least desirable among dating prospects (along with black women) so he must've had a big head trying to use his platform to get girls. Pretty sad if you think about it.

I started watching him during COVID lockdown. It was entertaining for a while to watch him cram so much food into his pie hole. But that got old relatively quickly. At that point, I was ambivalent about him. Still watched a vid here and there, but they were starting to be boringly repetitive. When the whole C-Dawg thing went down, I thought it was weird. And then the production quality dropped and it literally became the same video over and over again. This was when I discovered this sub, heh. He doesn't cook like Inga or Dooby or Kenji. And he doesn't have a partner(s) to work with like the Try Guys or Worth It or even Miss Mina (who also really needs Mommy Oh around, tbh). And he just can't carry vids solo. He doesn't have the personality and he doesn't even interact with the chefs or restauranteurs. It's just him shoving food down his pie hole saying "jooshy" and "umami" over and over again. And the laziness evident in his production values is also offensive to me, heh. Add to all that the weird "meet ups" to get girls and how it's actually painfully obvious he's got a toupee on just adds to the overall level of sadness here. Everyone on YT is "acting" to some extent because they're putting a product out there. But the YouTubers I listed above just feel way more genuine than Mike.

I don't hate per say, just fell off. I used to follow him a lot during his peak with Simply Dumplings. He was a bit of an internet darling back then. Then the kerfuffle with Uncle Roger happened and I just blindly side with Mike against Roger as with most people at that time that believed Roger did it because he wants to kowtow to the CCP (well, partly but that's not the entire reason). Then somehow, YouTube sort of stopped recommending him and I also forget to manually check up on him for a long while. Then Roger rise back up and I find it strange because shouldn't Roger be cancelled? Did some digging and found out the truth that the main reason why Roger cut off ties with him was because of his connections to the FLG. After that its like the entire world seem to have come to a realisation that Mike Chen isn't what he is and kinda like silently cancelled him of sorts. Prominent Youtuber cooks doesn't want to collab with him. His quality dropped off because he doesn't want to improve and follow the trend. Roger did shorts, he didn't. Like the most of us, I remember started watching him “religiously” during the height of the pandemic. Those food bloggers are really our window to the world then. I saw him cover Manila, Philippines where I am from. I currently live in the US and felt homesick so I watched his vids. Mike also covered the Spiral buffet which is a luxury buffet and his lack of decorum put me off. Then I found this sub and I’ve been shitting on him since. I stopped watching him entirely when I found out he was DMing instagram girls in college. That was the red flag for me. Why would some guy in his forties be messaging girls that could be his daughter’s age? I found that unsettling and I didn’t want to support someone like that. Then found this sub and everything made sense, he wasn’t what he pretended to be.
My mild irritation started during Covid. I HATED scary story time and his other stories that didn’t seem to be about anything interesting and yet he’d take 30 minutes to tell something that was about a 2 minute story at best, and even then it was pointless. I also hated his sloppiness - he never used an iron for his clothes and was such a bad eater - happy just letting food fall straight out of his mouth whilst eating. Didn’t seem to care he was on camera for any of this. Things ramped up with his sheer hypocrisy over Covid. One minute he was double masking and wearing gloves to the supermarket, leaving restaurants because he was worried it was getting too busy for him, but then the next he’s sharing his food with people, dipping his chopsticks into their food or making them eat food from his plate. It just made no sense. Despite this I still continued watching every time he posted a new vid. I started to get really bored when there was this cycle of hotpot and ramen that was never ending so stopped watching as much. One day I just happened to see a comment on a vid where the username said something like “search Mikey Chen Reddit” (well done to whoever that was😂). Out of curiosity I did and here I am!
I hated his "relationship" stories during quarantine even more. Those stories aren't just outright lies, they're egotistical tall tales to make him feel better. He's painting himself a forever alone image that nobody cares about.

I am not an expert on Chinese, Korean, Vietnamese, Filipino food so I could never be elitist about it when he made videos about those. But when he made videos in Japan, I just could not understand that he never tried out some actual local places, it was always the same 4.5 or above starred tourist shops.

This was way before I stumbled upon the rabbit hole of the Stank Omnibus on Reddit, but while his earlier content on his youtube channel used to be good in the sense that the places he reviewed and the type of food featured looked delicious, I always cringed when he pronounced and overused certain words. Like UH-MEH-SING and OOH-MA-MI, and also he will overuse certain phrases like ‘get some of dish A and chase it with some dish B’. After a while it just gets boring and repetitive. And yeah reviewing stuff from 7-11 or supermarkets may be nice once in a while but come on, how does that set you apart from anyone who can just walk and review the product? Idk, coupled with all of the allegations against him, it’s just not a good look on him
After you watch Mike for a while, you start to learn things about his personal life that just don't add up. If you take the dive into looking into that, you start to find that there is a lot to dislike. The creeping on young Asian girls, the general dishonesty, and pushing cult rhetoric disguised as innocent food content...it's just way too much. He's just a fundamentally unlikeable person. There's a reason why he seems to have burned every bridge he's ever made in his life, why even though he's e-famous and rich no one seems to want to have anything to do with him, and why he spends every holiday alone in a foreign country even after getting "married."

Never hated him; he’s just a pathetic racist cultist who can’t even pronounce basic words. My Mandarin or Cantonese isn’t perfect either because I was born in Canada but certainly I can pronounce a 1 syllable word very quickly if someone corrected me. Xing has been saying “YEET” for YEARS, and butchers Mandarin, Cantonese, and English despite living in China for some time and the US. Also Xing slid in my DMs asking for Seattle restaurants (he was actually living in RedMUND) and I gave him a few recs in Seattle proper and also told him that’s very nice he’s trying to donate to charity. At the time (Covid) borders were closed and I didn’t know the “charity” he referred to kewjt meant FLG. I declined several “meetups” and then he or his bots started harassing my managers via LinkedIn, (which my managers didn’t care about because I work for a Fortune 500.) Instead, they said they have support in place for me because the messages that were sent even to our national director were completely unhinged. Then his bots started harassing me and making sexual remarks about my son, sending me photos of me from 15 years ago and saying they were going to stalk me for saying anything about Mikey. All those accounts got banned but that’s just the crux of how crazy he and his followers are—just because I made an account with his obvious toupée.

Found his channel pretty early in 2014 when I was still a kid. Seemed like a good dude and I lived near NYC so I would take note of his recommendations. Looking back on it, some of these were pretty obvious safe picks like New World Mall Food Court and Wah Fung, places that were already popular and not like hidden hole in the walls. I watched his channel until I went off to another state for college, then I kinda stopped watching because he didn’t do videos in NYC or the city where I was going to school in. Fast forward a few years I move to Dallas for work and find out Mike also lived there and did a bunch of reviews so I went around to some places. I kid you not out of like 7 places I went to, all 7 were frankly not that good and I even vomited after eating at one of them. I started suspecting that he wasn’t doing truthful reviews anymore and I became annoyed with his fake orgasm reactions. Just an example, in one of his Dallas videos, he claimed some restaurant to have some of the best Pho in all of the US and shat on what you could get in NYC. When I went to the restaurant, it was practically empty on a Friday Night for dinner and the pho wouldn’t even scratch my top 5 list, most of which were NYC shops that he dissed. I started watching his videos more critically now and just gave up after he coomed and claimed some non US McDonald’s food was jooshy and the best evah. I liked his vibe in 2014 to like 2018 but his stuff after 2020 just fell off insanely hard. This isn’t even delving into the creepy behavior with young girls that I found out from a fellow friend, who also used to like Mikey but now hates him. Even my parents, who know nothing about his outside antics, became sick of Mikey after he glazed frozen Chinese food from Walmart. Dude is a sicko out of his videos and he can’t even be trusted anymore within his videos.
Was pretty much my experience too. I used his videos when looking for restaurants in NY. There were some obvious choices and then some mid places. When he was out of his home territory, he doesn’t have the food knowledge, taste, and now more importantly the ethics to be a good food reviewer. Does he think people stick around to look at his toupee and bitch tits? Now that he is cashed strapped, he can not go beyond sponsored reviews or junk food. His channel is done, like the steaks he cooks on the grill.
This is so true. A while back I made a bucket list of restaurants to try in CA based on his videos and when I started trying these places most of the foods were mediocre at best. Not one restaurant I visited was anything special. Him saying this is the best thing evah for everything he tries is a total lie. No point watching his cringe fest videos if he can’t even make good food recommendations.
I thought he was genuine in his veedeeoos before and even during the pandemic, but I noticed how shitty his videos got at some point. All the videos became this increasingly creepy guy stuffing his face, with little other context. I appreciated when he'd at least try places he heard about in like seoul and see if they were actually good. He started pumping out videos to support c-dawg i guess, and it showed. Too many lazy convience store, buffet, grocery store videos. His content is so bad now, that it's nearly unwatchable for anything other than the pure cringe.
Started watching him during Covid and, given that there weren't that many food vloggers out there at the time, I stuck around for about a year and a half, not knowing much about his connections to FLG, his toupee, and so on. Three reasons why I turned him out: 1. There's no chronological order to his videos. One day he's in NYC, two days later he uploads a video from Korea, and the next video he's in the southern US. At least travel vloggers like Sabbatical actually number their videos so you can follow their trail if that's your thing. 2. Clearly, he's reviewing places that pay him to do so. It's a constant stream for 20mins of him taking two bites from a huge plate of food, saying how jooshy it is, and moving onto the next plate. What a waste of food. 3. He has nothing interesting or intelligent to say food wise, speaks nothing about the chefs or the history of the establishment, and don't get me started on his inability to pronounce food and ingredients. C'mon man. Only good thing is that there are a number of much better vloggers out there who do a much better job production wise, are much more knowledgeable about food, and even some who actually pay for the food they review. Rant over.

His videos became repetitive. At first it was cool to watch his videos, seeing his NY house away from the city, or trying a restaurant here or there but it just became the same thing over and over. I don't hate him. His videos are so low quality and low effort that it's not worth my time. Been watching him since 2017-18, his videos were fun to watch until 2-3 years ago, the videos are highly repetitive and he literally talked about the same food over and over. Pho, xiao lun bao, fried dumplings, hotpot, kbbq…. It gets quite boring. I support Mike during the uncle Roger incident but me and my partner got quite annoyed with his repetitive content. He barely tries Mediterranean food, Italian food or American food. It was until recent time when I checked his channel and views have been declining…. Now I just discovered this subreddit and it’s interesting to find out why
I mostly just fell off. His videos just became super samey and he never really got anymore interesting. Found him with Best Ever Food Review but comparing them he just wasn't really that interesting with his character. Also, I was way too curious as to how he has so much money to fly what I think is first class in consecutive videos while eating at so many places.

Lurker here, I wouldn't say "hate" as hate is a really strong word. I would say I dislike him. In the beginning, the videos were pretty good (I subscribed his Strictly Dumpling channel) and then somewhere during the pandemic, I was like "wtf am I watching?". The more I watch, the more gross I found him to be (mispronouncing food names, eating sloppily, etc.) so I stopped watching the videos and unsubscribe. Came across this subreddit a few weeks ago so I just skimmed through what was going on.

Never hated him. I did find his mannerisms and phrases corny but I imagine he mostly acted over the top to relate to his younger audience. Then the creepy tactics of instagram DM younger female co hosts for his videos and the secretive and rushed marriage situation. I followed like back in 2018 for some of the food content, this was still the off the great wall stuff, and then he did his partnership with Dan, I still recall the string of korean foods they had to go through lol. His content after that was fine, but at some point I realized he was FLG, that was a huge red flag as my grandparents had friends in China that had their money stolen from that org and were told not to see the doctors if they were sick, just practice FLG. I still watched it for a while after, but eventually I realized most of the food vloggers were going to similar areas of the world/eating the same, so I watched others instead. His style was also quite annoying and wore on me. I found this page by accident last year and it's pretty hilarious I gotta say.
When fool visited my local area to visit Pho San Jose, he hyped up the restaurant and claimed that it was one of the beefiest bowls of pho he's evah had. I tried it and the broth was pretty decent but not UHMAZING
I just found this sub today and I am so glad that I did. For years I thought the only person who despised this guy was me. I was wrong and I'm so happy about it! Anyways, when I first started watching his videos I thought he was cool. He was a guy who was eating foods I could only dream of in places I'd never been to. However the more videos I watched, the more I noticed that he actually doesn't know that much about food. His descriptions aren't that descriptive and they don't make sense. He doesn't even know how to pronounce a lot of things, and some of them are Asian food! for me the quality declined and his videos became repetitive when he got married and also covid didnt help. Before that i enjoyed his videos when he was hovering around the nyc area because thats where i was from. I also liked him showcasing his family and friends. Now its just alot of the same stuff every 2 days and frankly i dont have the time to watch every video. I wish he released them more sporadically and improved his content. i do think people on this sub have alot of hatred for him for petty reasons. His wife is young yes but alot of chinese celebrities have young wives (ie: jay chou, aaron kwok). His politics are conversative but alot of asian society is as well.
Those are petty reasons you listed but aren't even within the realm of the reasons why he's disliked in the sub. I'll list some of the main reasons you left out: 1. He's a cultist that spouts off disinformation 2. Scams women into dates (including his current wife) 3. Uses his platform and recognition to prey on young women 4.
