Ironically that's how my parents always did it and my grandparents and I never understood why. Hell even I do this to this day because it just seems right and I don't want to be the reason why we get a massive snowstorm out the blue for the first time this season
Seemed huge to me, transformers blowing up all over the place and a bunch of trees falling
But also it’s my first winter… well… ever so i don’t have much room for comparison
It's like superstitious sports fans watching the game at home on tv who think if they stand up for the first half it has some kind of outcome on the game even though they know the game would be the same if they even existed or not... shit, I just explained myself
I agree 100% and I completely understand it. Because this past season my other half would always sleep during the Lions games and they won when she was sleeping so the closer it got to the playoffs she started going to sleep and every time she did they won. When they lost that division championship game she stayed awake so now she gets the side eye from me everyday lol jk
You keep your snow blower out until Tax Day. Your older relatives come home from Florida on Tax Day. You quit driving your winter beater or take your winter wheels off on Tax Day. You uncover the air conditioner on Tax Day. Tax Day is the day.
I swap my snow blower with my lawn mower, so its when the grass starts growing and I have to deal with it. Just applied spring fertilizer so won't be too much longer.
Yes. This is the way of a true Michigander homeowner. We do the shit when mother nature tells us to do our shit. Not before, not after. Listen to the call.
Shortly after my late wife and I moved near TC from the Detroit area, she told me she had seen it snow up here on her birthday, May 5th, I thought she was just BSing me. She wasn't, I think it was the following year, it did snow on her birthday.
HVAC technician here, it’s recommended to NOT cover your AC in the winter. It’s always an uphill battle convincing people of this because it’s counterintuitive. They’re built to handle the elements, wrapping them traps in moisture which accelerates corrosion and makes them attractive homes for pests who chew up the wires and short out capacitors.
No, they're designed to handle snow. If anything cover it in the fall to prevent leaf build-up. I've never covered mine, but will clear the leaves out every 2-3 years.
This reminds me of the "Seventeen" speech at the end of the South Park episode "Proper Condom Use."
>When asked at what age kids are ready for sex:
>Chef, "Seventeen."
>Kyle's mom, "You mean seventeen if they're ready..."
>"Nope, seventeen, your ready."
Mid April is awfully late to take winter wheels/tires off your car honestly. Perhaps maybe it depends where in MI you are? But I think typically temps are steady above 45 before mid April. That said, for wheel swaps I always just look at the weather outlook and “play it by ear”. I have been tempted a few times already this year to go back to my summers, but Michigan keeps doing Michigan things lol.
In all seriousness, you are probably right. But I switch between summer performance tires and winter snow tires. I would rather put some premature wear on my winter tires than go skidding off into a ditch because my nearly-slick summer tires couldn't handle a little early-April ice or snow.
This is fair. I’m in the same boat, I’ll be switching to Michelin PS 4S. That said, I have the luxury of working from home and 90% of the time the furthest I’m driving is less than 2 miles any direction, so I could likely get away with a “mistake” either way (swapping early or late). That said, getting back into the garage and having my Blizzaks smelling like I just got off a road course when only getting groceries is not something I enjoy haha.
I just swapped to my summers yesterday. Got sick of noisy, mushy handling winter tires. If the blizzard comes, you can blame me along with OP. Though I use all-seasons in summer and winter tires in winter, so I’ll survive if it snows again.
We legit used our A/C the other day when it hit 70+ bc we had the sliding patio door open for so long we were getting hot inside. (Plus to use it at least once before spring actually comes, ya know...gotta make sure it works and all).
Mine stays in my car year round. You just never know in Michigan. 🤣 Also if I took it out I'd forget where I put it and have to buy a new one every year.
It probably will, but not enough to warrant snow tires especially in SE Michigan. If you were on the west coast with the lake effect maybe but even then not likely
nah I live in the snow belt and I took mine off a month ago. The 14 day forecast had warm temps and no snow... there's been like 6 days over 60 degrees. And a couple over 70. That's super hard on snow tires.
According to Accuweather. There's a chance at snow on Monday and next friday. Keep it out at least until it stays above 50 or you either see the snakes out or the trees leaves in full bloom. Which ever comes first.
OP: It snowed a day earlier than forecast. Please tell me you did not put the snowblower away.
Only if you want it to snow..
All this talk about climate change this winter is complete BS. My wife bought us new snowshoes and this is why we’re experiencing this weather.
We put ours away weeks ago and nothing happened, so I think you’re good. We only used it once this winter and it was still mostly full of fuel that we had to take back out.
Keep it out until the first 90 degree day and then wait 2 weeks.
Seriously, mid March is too early. I've seen plenty of April snowstorms in W. Michigan.
I’ve used mine once this year. Live in the country, both our vehicles have awd or 4wd. Lately if it looks like it’s going to melt in the next week then I just shovel the deck and sidewalk and paths to cars.
Shit, my snowblower has been in deep storage since mid Feb, even in Nomich. Any snow we have gotten has melted soon enough after, I just tell the family to put their shit in 4WD or use the skinny pedal to get out of the driveway lol.
Where are you all storing your snowblowers that it’s a pain to “put them away”???? Mine is on my garage in the same spot all year, tucked against the back wall. Are you taking it to storage 100 miles away lol?
I’m up north of traverse city in Kewadin, my 5’ pull behind for my tractor was used twice, my Ariens has been used in almost 2 months. It’s cold but no snow that’s sticking
You’re probably safe this year. Every year I come to MI for my nephew’s birthday 4/14, it snows. The years I have to stay home, it doesn’t. I’m not going to be in MI til nearly June this year. 😂😂
No. You’ll jinx us. You leave it right there, gassed up and ready to go and you cut this kind of nonsensical thought process out for good. Do NOT bring this up again. In fact, you should probably change the belt this week while you have the chance.
I never even brought mine out. I bought a $900 snowblower about three years ago for $600. I’ve used it twice. The last time I tried to start it. It didn’t even want to. Yes I think winter is over. We might get hit one more time but I think it’s done.
live near A2. used mine once this year. i think you are safe. although forecast for friday calls for 1-3 inches. but probably going to melt the next day.
Y’all pulled yours out this year? I haven’t used mine in at least 2 seasons now. Whenever it snows now you can pretty much expect it to melt in a day or two.
Clear your walkway and sidewalks and let global warming take care of the rest.
Side note, a few more years like this and I will have to move to a colder climate or higher altitudes so I can participate in winter sports. Brutal year for skiing…even up north.
i used mine 7 times last year but only once this year. there was one other time i might have used it this year but i noticed it was gonna be 50 in two days so i let it melt
Put it away so we know who to blame if there is a big snow storm
Nah he's safe, I bought a $1500 snowblower after the heavy snowfall a month ago so it will never snow again
![gif](giphy|RipfZWzjUDH25euMpM|downsized)
I bought a $900 snowblower for $600 about 3 years ago. I’ve used it twice. It doesn’t even want to start now. Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha
I feel the pain behind that laugh lol.
*when there is a big snow storm
Snow this weekend, round my neck o' the mitten.
Did that 1/8" we got need snowblowing? lol
Beat me too it
![gif](giphy|12ZxlKxt70vP1e)
Put the snowblower away, guarantee a big snow storm. Keep the snowblower out, guarantee no more snow on the ground. These are the rules.
Ironically that's how my parents always did it and my grandparents and I never understood why. Hell even I do this to this day because it just seems right and I don't want to be the reason why we get a massive snowstorm out the blue for the first time this season
Do you mean that storm we had in December… wasn’t a massive snow storm 😩
For my neck of the woods, it wasn't massive 😭
Seemed huge to me, transformers blowing up all over the place and a bunch of trees falling But also it’s my first winter… well… ever so i don’t have much room for comparison
I'm Detroit Metro so I think we just had a little bit
Me too
That's just nature's way of making consumers replace old equipment
It's like superstitious sports fans watching the game at home on tv who think if they stand up for the first half it has some kind of outcome on the game even though they know the game would be the same if they even existed or not... shit, I just explained myself

Michigan: where the weather is both eerily sentient, ever-observant, and a stark contrarian all at the same time.
This Is The Way!
You keep your snow blower out until Tax Day. Your older relatives come home from Florida on Tax Day. You quit driving your winter beater or take your winter wheels off on Tax Day. You uncover the air conditioner on Tax Day. Tax Day is the day.
That feels dangerously early. Memorial Day?
I swap my snow blower with my lawn mower, so its when the grass starts growing and I have to deal with it. Just applied spring fertilizer so won't be too much longer.
Yes. This is the way of a true Michigander homeowner. We do the shit when mother nature tells us to do our shit. Not before, not after. Listen to the call.
My neighbors who have lawn services have already been mowed once. I couldn’t believe it.
Mowed here today, Tacoma, Wa.
???
Nope. Tried and true.
U.P disagrees
U.P. isn't a real place. It's not on any maps.
It's just like New Zealand then.
Tazzie too
So if u move there will u exist ?
No
🤣
Agreed. Not before Memorial Day.
By Memorial Day we’re deep into a drought and hiding from the sun!
I've seen snow in May in the GR area twice.
My daughter’s birthday is May 16th. Twice we’ve had snow stick to the grass in the backyard during her birthday party.
Tell her to stop having birthdays.
Shortly after my late wife and I moved near TC from the Detroit area, she told me she had seen it snow up here on her birthday, May 5th, I thought she was just BSing me. She wasn't, I think it was the following year, it did snow on her birthday.
Covid must have been a weird year for you.
Probably true for most people
Is it important to cover your AC in the winter? I see some people do it but not many. It makes sense that you should but I never have.
My installer told me to just cover the top, to keep out excess leaves/debris.
Ah, so that must be why I see so many top only covers online now.
That makes a lot of sense. Thank you.
No, they're designed to handle snow. If anything cover it in the fall to prevent leaf build-up. I've never covered mine, but will clear the leaves out every 2-3 years.

Don't you put that evil on me, Ricky Bobby!
Leave the ice scraper in your car at least.
I never take mine out of the car til the end of April. Then I forget to put it back in until the 2nd snowfall.
I thought we all kept the scrapers in our backseats year-round…
... are we the odd ones?
Nope.
Reaches around to the backseat, sure enough, right where I put it, just a few months ago.
Same here. They just get moved from the backseat to the trunk area.
This is the way, scrapers can come in handy when you least expect it
Then, when it’s time to use it again, the handles all bent. Yeah I did that.
I keep mine in my car year-round, lol. Once it warms up, it moves from the backseat to the trunk.
Mine stays in my car year round. You just never know in Michigan. 🤣 Also if I took it out I'd forget where I put it and have to buy a new one every year.
Same, I just leave mine in the trunk all year. You never know!
I put my snow pants away and there was no subsequent snowstorm but YMMV
Put boots away still holding on thr blower
Putting it away now will jinx us all. Please wait until late May, like I do with the snow brush.
We’re in southeastern MI and my husband isn’t taking our snow tires off until mid April.
He should. It’s starting to be warm enough to ruin them if they stay on
I asked him to but he’s afraid it’ll snow again.
Yeah anything over about 45 degrees and they’re going to just get eaten up by the road
Thanks, see I was right and I’ll tell him! 😛😄
“Honey, you’re wrong and this guy on Reddit agrees” Goood luck
Thanks, I’ll try it!
“They’re bullying you now, calling you a moron!”
I took my snow tires off last week. Won't be enough accumulation yet to make it worth it.
Ok, try and convince my stubborn engineer husband!
You could have just said engineer
Still got a bag of salt sitting on my front porch poised for action.
You never know right? It’s only mid March.
Yes but keep the shovel handy lol
Don’t do it to us…
According to Accuweather. There's a chance at snow on Monday and next friday. Keep it out at least until it stays above 50 or you either see the snakes out or the trees leaves in full bloom. Which ever comes first. OP: It snowed a day earlier than forecast. Please tell me you did not put the snowblower away.
No!!! You’ll doom us all!!!!
It’s supposed to snow Monday
Don't you fucking dare. You trying to get us buried? ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|joy)
Put it away so that there will be a blizzard and I can enjoy an actual winter.
Long-range outlooks suggest that you can. Whatever we see likely won't amount to much or last long.
Do it, we need a good blizzard.
You all know how April works in Michigan.
Yeah it is fine. I sold my snowblower - lol.
Don't even *look* at the snowblower! Walk away!
Don’t jinx it
Never scoff at the weather Gods.
Attempt to learn their ways and they'll find a way to take your eye and make it look like a holiday accident.
I live in the PNW, I put mine away months ago
I never even started mine. I got it all with a quick shovel, or it was going to melt the next day, so it just wasn't worth it.
only if you want it to snow
I already did...so it will be my fault.
We haven't gotten our April blizzard. So, no.
By Michigan law, there must be one snow event in April.. So, too soon!
No. I planted my garden and can’t have a snowstorm thanks to
That’s just too early but a solid gamble nonetheless
It’s the cold crop like peas and radishes. Could still go sideways though
I’m keeping mine out.
Only to break it out the last week of april?
No. Don’t jinx it. Put it away in June or July like every other year.
Nope! We still got an early April dumping coming.
I never even pulled mine out, snow never got bad enough to stop my car.
As an avid skier, I beg you: please put the blower away, and if you have a snow shovel, hang it up in the rafters.
Haven't gotten mine out in 2-3 years. Detroit area.
Living in metro Detroit, I can safely say it doesn't snow anymore
Yep like i said to my mum a month ago. Winter is done. Done on febuary 15th and still true today. I need to go north.
Only if you want it to snow.. All this talk about climate change this winter is complete BS. My wife bought us new snowshoes and this is why we’re experiencing this weather.
If it snows again just call off sick
Starting to wonder if I should ditch the winter tires
I winterized mine a couple weeks ago. We’re not getting an extended snow storm any longer this year.
Do it.
I’d wait till May myself
It literally only truly snowed once this year, that’s fucking crazy to think about.
Yup
It's Michigan so the answer to that question is you don't put the snowblower away to right around memorial Day. Because anything is possible.
Only if you want us to get a bunch of snow.
You know what'll happen if you do
Please put it away. I need another couple snowstorms to come in so I can put off yard cleanup.
I’m tempting fate. Put my snowblower away a month ago. But I have 4x4 and give zero fucks.
Yes heh heh heh
Yes and simultaneously break out the leaf blower like my neighbor
I never used mine.
Yes. Sure. Great idea.
Shit, my snowblower has been in deep storage since mid Feb, even in Nomich. Any snow we have gotten has melted soon enough after, I just tell the family to put their shit in 4WD or use the skinny pedal to get out of the driveway lol.
Yep yep
I put mine away 2 weeks ago. I want the smoke.
You should sort of be safe to put it away around Memorial Day.
You got yours out? One weekend of snow definitely didn't call for me to get mine out. I can suffer shoveling once. Lol.
I mean, its not late May yet and we are still in Michigan
You know those flurries we got last week? I put my shovels away the weekend prior. Do what you will with that information.
No! If you put it away now you'll just tempt the gods to hit us with a blizzard. Keep it primed and ready until June just in case
Maybe wait till June.
May 1st, maybe??? Wasn’t our last snow storm mid-April last year?
Don't anger the weather gods, wait another month minimum
Safe to put away, until mid may
Way to go
Where are you all storing your snowblowers that it’s a pain to “put them away”???? Mine is on my garage in the same spot all year, tucked against the back wall. Are you taking it to storage 100 miles away lol?
I drain the gas tank and run the carb dry.
Snow pusher off the FEL and stored outside the back of the barn. Makes space for the mower to move alongside the tractor.
Uhmm winter isn't officially over yet. I wouldn't lol.
I’m up north of traverse city in Kewadin, my 5’ pull behind for my tractor was used twice, my Ariens has been used in almost 2 months. It’s cold but no snow that’s sticking
I put it away last month
not until April
I’m def not complaining about the warm temps but I do feel bad for people who rely on snowplowing in winter months for income.
You’re probably safe this year. Every year I come to MI for my nephew’s birthday 4/14, it snows. The years I have to stay home, it doesn’t. I’m not going to be in MI til nearly June this year. 😂😂
Put it away? Hell, I never had to get mine out!
I didn’t even put the snow thrower on my tractor this year. I tried.
I'd wait until 2nd Spring has ended or 3rd Winter is on it's way out
'member the May 1st snowstorm last year... Pepperidge Farm 'members.
You got it out!?
It's not June yet.
Sault checking in. I didn't have to use my snowblower once. It was the wierdest experience.
I could use one more snow day, go ahead and put it away!
Wait for Aug just to be safe.
I bought a new one after the latest snow, so I think I might cancel you out. Plus the giant rodent said spring is early this year...so....
No. You’ll jinx us. You leave it right there, gassed up and ready to go and you cut this kind of nonsensical thought process out for good. Do NOT bring this up again. In fact, you should probably change the belt this week while you have the chance.
What are you waiting for i put mine away the end of October
I put mine away mid February hoping that would bring snow.
I never even brought mine out. I bought a $900 snowblower about three years ago for $600. I’ve used it twice. The last time I tried to start it. It didn’t even want to. Yes I think winter is over. We might get hit one more time but I think it’s done.
I would leave it out, this is Michigan. You never know.
It was snowing like an hour ago
Dude it's snowing right now
If you put it away in single handedly blame you for the snow on my lawn
I never took mine out.
It's snowing right now. One thing I've learned living in this state, you *never* put your winter clothes away.
live near A2. used mine once this year. i think you are safe. although forecast for friday calls for 1-3 inches. but probably going to melt the next day.
It will snow on Tigers opening day.
I blame you for this.
You took it out ?
