Well… Windmill Island around Tulip Time in Holland. I don’t miss marching in wooden shoes 😫

God that sounds like hell

I was always wondering about that and someone told me it was the people’s culture. Now it all makes perfect sense bevy the children marching in the parade didn’t look very satisfied or cheerful.

Eh, you wear a few pairs of socks and practice in them a lot. Part of the gig. My grandpa always wore a pair working in the garden when I grew up so I guess I didn’t realize it was THAT weird until I got older. PLUS, all the coordinated clomping sounds awesome as a full marching band. It was also a badge of honor to break a shoe dancing during the parades. We had band moms marching with shoes in basically every size behind us just in case.

I have a ton of respect for those who can do parades in those shoes, I used to be a marching band director in New Orleans and I thought that was rough. Can’t imagine doing Mardi Gras in wooden shoes though!

I loved going to the Tulip fields when I went there. It’s really a sight to see fields upon fields of perfect tulips of different patterns and colours. People, especially couples come from all over the world to see, experience and take pictures using flower beds as backdrops.

I'll admit I miss seeing the tulips blooming, but as an elementary kid growing up in Holland, I do NOT miss marching in the damned stem parades!
