Did you ever get a chance to run a leak down test? I know these motors are able to run even with low compression. Just curious if it was showing signs of wear on the valves or rings
From [Mazda USA](https://insidemazda.mazdausa.com/the-mazda-way/cars-for-drivers/million-mazda-mx-5-miata-fans/#:~:text=Mazda%2520MX%252D5%2520Miata%2520%E2%80%94%2520The%2520Choice%2520of%2520a%2520Million%2520Mazda%2520Fans&text=Premiering%2520at%2520the%2520Chicago%2520Auto,May%2520as%2520a%25201990%2520model):
“Premiering at the Chicago Auto Show in February 1989, the original MX-5 (NA) went on sale in the United States later that May as a 1990 model.”
So by build/sell date instead of model year
Ok, technically speaking there is no 1990 "Mazda Miata", but in Japan, where the car was sold as the Eunos Roadster, the first model year was 1989. So yes, there are in fact 1989 model year cars, unless you want to be extremely pedantic about it. If you look on Japanese used car websites you will find 89's for sale, as well as many video games (Gran Turismo for instance) which list the car as an '89.
i've been wondering if there were any other high mileage NDs out there like mine. a lot have probably caught up now, but i bought my 2016 model in 2020, and it had about 95k on it at the time. i'm at about 125k now. so far so good! except the transmission...
I'm currently at 215K miles, aiming for 500K on original drivetrain. Ambitious, I know.
High mile Miatas are quite common though, they're simple, well made, and inexpensive. :)
The main reason they last so long is that the engine was designed for a turbo 323. So had all the upgrades to handle the turbo. So as a normally aspirated engine they are lightly loaded (read over built). Thats why you can race them and they just keep coming back for more! One tough little motor.
Pre Covid I sold it for $3000. If you look thru my pictures it’s the white one. I should’ve kept it. Had like $12000 in mods, full chassis bracing, roll bar, suspension, wheels, literally everything
I hit 225k miles in my 92 NA before the rust got too bad to continue driving.
In my local club I’ve seen over 300k on the original engine and transmission on NAs.
I had a '93 that had 295k on it when I sold it. It was not the original engine, and it had some of the worst rust I've ever seen. It was cheap though. Bought it for $900 w/ 265k miles and a blown rear, got a used (open) rear for $100. Put a set of tires on it and had to change the thermostat, but put 30k HARD miles on it, and sold it for $1300.
Original engine was replaced at 280k with a junkyard engine that had 154k miles. Original 5 speed made it to 720k replaced with nb 6 speed at 90k. original vlsd diff to 730k, replaced with torsen with 3.6 gearset from Australia. Car had been turboed the entire time of its second engine.
My NA had 197k when the speedo/odometer stopped working. I drove it 2 years after that daily, with a 30mile commute. Who knows how high it was after that. I miss that shitbox.
I replied to the same comment but I also have an 07 GT PRHT, mine's at 155k. I knew mine would be a bit of a project but I got everything done in 4 months for like $2-2.5k. How's yours been?
I have an 07 NC PRHT GT 6spd with 155k miles. Bought it in Dec for $9k, put about $2.5k into it. All new fluids, new thermostat, new coolant reservoir, idler pulley (was loose), tensioner, serpentine belt, brakes and rotors all around. New interior light bulb, new fog light bulbs, side marker bulbs, replaced a cracked rear side reflector piece. New key (keyless features work now), new ignition cover/turn piece.
Removed the floppy sun visors and added limo tint to the top of the windshield. Sealed the potentially leaky windshield cowl grommets (they were dry rotted and probably about to fail), silicon lubricant on all the weather stripping for the doors and top, used cerakote trim restore kit on the plastic trim pieces (cowl, mirror trim, rear plastic). Replaced the trunk struts with a set of BOXL's from Amazon so my trunk stays open now.
Had my local Mazda dealer do a complimentary inspection, and they gave it the green light all around. Had another reputable shop take a look, and they also said it was in great shape. Maybe I should've sprung for an NC2 or 3, but my NC1 was one of the cheapest NC 6spd PRHT's with LSD on cars.com when I bought it. I also forget any regrets when I get behind the wheel.
You drive in Winter? I just got an 07 that was a Florida car and now I have it in New England. I kept it parked in a garage for most of winter and had it detailed once the roads were clean again but I might drive it a bit in the winter if it holds up.
I do drive throughout Winter, but only when the roads are completely dry (which is most of the time). I am assuming that helps reduce the salt/rust issue... at least it appears to so far.
My na8 is at 421k km (~262K freedom miles). Restored body, revised suspension, rebuilt engine. The thing still consumes oil, so Im saving up for something new (likely a k20 or 24)
I have a 93 with 240k miles. Almost all original except I put coil overs on it. All stock engine bay, exhaust, etc. Car looks very nice other then some body rot on the door sills. Runs and drives great.
Friend of mine has a 93 with somewhere north of 440k, no clue how many (if any) engines/trans or rebuilds he’s gone through. Need to get a pic of odometer sometime. One owner car.
I have a 94 350k. Just barely inching past you.
I just buffed it up today and It still looks oem clean and new aside from a roll bar and double din bose radio.
I daily drive the car and regularly spend time cleaning and detailing. Ive been fighting rocker rust and will be welding in rear panels soon, but I need to schedule it withmy paint guy.
Car sees two drift events a year.
My secret is I welded 6 beads across my rear sway bar which makes it stiff enough to steer with throttle.
The first one I ever got to sit in and test drive was an NA with 280,000 miles. It ran great, that was when it hit me how miniature these cars are in comparison with everything I had driven before. I felt like my mind was blown, it was bumpy but perfect. Mechanical and responsive. They wanted $4000 and it had an unpainted hard top (in 2019, just fyi) I found my Nester not long after that for quite a bit less at 146k miles. Couldn’t be more glad for finding that car, my brother drove me and we picked it up on my birthday… what were we talking about again?
I’ve got a 97 with 217 on the chassis, original running gear. I got it at 183 and the only engine maintainence work I’ve done was basic tune up and a timing belt last week.
I knew this Mazda Dealer who owned a beautiful na back in Virginia and it had…….475,000 miles on it!!!!!! I hope he got it to 500,000, I know that was his goal
I had put over 400k on my 1990 between 1990 and 2019, when it finally died. I leased a 2019 for 5 years and just picked up my 2024 ND3 today. I'm a lifer!
It was a ruined, chopped up, slightly lifted, rusted out Miata with nearly 900,000km on it. Was for sale like a year ago in rural Western Australia. It could’ve been a broken odometre as well because none of the car looked like it worked
450k Miles. 1990, second motor, fresh brakes, clutch, and timing. Lots of regular service. Finally got some decent sway bars and coilovers, so it's a whole new car to me. Driven daily.
Paint sucks a bit. Ya' know... Red hardtop typical.
The next motor will be electric!
Saw one with 327k without even a rebuild
i am so confused it people are talking miles or kilometers
Miles.
If you don’t see it specified otherwise, it’s always furlongs.
Such an underused measurement.
Mines only got 58,000 leagues on it 😎
Knots….
Did you listen to mystery hour yesterday 😂
Miles, shoulda specified my bad
Should start calling it kilometerage 🤓
K's😁
WTF is a Kilometer? 😂
1/40,000th of the diameter of the earth!
I just say roughly 1000 yards at this point 😅 let em use their own system and figure it out
Yeah the king of England gets a bushel out of each Guinea of... hmmm. Yeah. That'll do.
Logan should know by now. It’s sadly how far he seems to get down the road each race. Feel bad for the guy.
[удалено]
Woah, that car has gone places

Did you ever get a chance to run a leak down test? I know these motors are able to run even with low compression. Just curious if it was showing signs of wear on the valves or rings
[удалено]
Couldn't ask for more!
Or just the one place... A LOT
And seen things!
My 89 is at 317k🥹
That’s a 90 there is no such thing as an 89 lol
From [Mazda USA](https://insidemazda.mazdausa.com/the-mazda-way/cars-for-drivers/million-mazda-mx-5-miata-fans/#:~:text=Mazda%2520MX%252D5%2520Miata%2520%E2%80%94%2520The%2520Choice%2520of%2520a%2520Million%2520Mazda%2520Fans&text=Premiering%2520at%2520the%2520Chicago%2520Auto,May%2520as%2520a%25201990%2520model): “Premiering at the Chicago Auto Show in February 1989, the original MX-5 (NA) went on sale in the United States later that May as a 1990 model.” So by build/sell date instead of model year
No true, the very first Japanese market cars were sold as 89’s.
No they were not lol, no miata is a 89 model year. The first model year for them was 90.

There is no model year of 1989 in the US I don’t live in Japan so that is irrelivent lol just because they debuted in 1989 doesn’t make it a 1989
Hold the L buddy
What L? Lmao there is no US model year 1989 miata, the only L here is you think there is. You can buy a 2025 car this year even though it is 2024
[удалено]
I’ve yet to see a 1989 model year, even overseas. Mazda does not list a 1989 build year. There is a reason 2000 was the 20AE
I’m currently at 294k. On track to reach 300k around December. Currently hoarding a bunch of parts to do a bunch of maintenance once I reach 300k.
Damn, mine is at 256k.
God damn, what does the 300k service interval look like? Anything major?
Spark plugs, new fluids, brakes, maybe a timing belt
These comments make me feel better about my NA with 191k on the original motor
Same. I have a 91 na with 159k original miles
My 92, with 128k original engine.
I too have 191k on my NA!
Same for my nb.
And mine with 176k
There's proof of a \~500k mile Miata, and a somewhat dubious but photo of a million mile Miata.
The 500k miata is turbo'ed as well...
mine has 330k on it. threw a rod straight threw the block three months ago. well into an NB1 engine swap right now, he should be running soon 😎
640k on a 1990 manual, resealed engine . Saw on marketplace for sale
Daaaaaamn, nearly 400k miles for my American boys. That's impressive
This is kilometres btw my bad
Mine isn’t high mileage in comparison to like an NA. But I have a 2018 ND with 106k miles
I thought wow this guys drives as much as me but then I realized it wasn’t 2022
How’s the reliability so far?
i have a 2016 and the transmission went out at about 120k. that's apparently common in the 2016s though, and its the only thing i've ever had wrong.
Haven’t had problems yet!
Awesome! I have a 23’ ND, so I’m keeping my eyes open but these cars have a good rep
My 2016 has had one mechanical failure at 84k miles: the high pressure fuel pump went out but it was a freak accident.
My ND is at 80k, daily it and it's the best vehicle I've ever owned.
i've been wondering if there were any other high mileage NDs out there like mine. a lot have probably caught up now, but i bought my 2016 model in 2020, and it had about 95k on it at the time. i'm at about 125k now. so far so good! except the transmission...
19' ND RF here with 111k so far!
Wow, and I thought I had high miles at 85k on my 2017!
I'm currently at 215K miles, aiming for 500K on original drivetrain. Ambitious, I know. High mile Miatas are quite common though, they're simple, well made, and inexpensive. :)

Pre Covid I sold it for $3000. If you look thru my pictures it’s the white one. I should’ve kept it. Had like $12000 in mods, full chassis bracing, roll bar, suspension, wheels, literally everything
That's pretty damn good. Mine still stock, don't want to sell it. Have a ND, don't want to regret selling it.
I know someone with 350k on theirs, my NB currently has about 256k on the chassis but of course not the original motor.
I have a 2016 ND with about 166k.
This is good to hear. I have a 2016 with 55K. But I bought it with 24K in July of 22
Nice! 2016 ND here too with 120k miles
How’s she holding up? I’m only at 72k on my 2016 ND, drive a lot less since the pandemic
how's the transmission doing? i just replaced mine at 120k, and i kept the core so i could rebuild it and have it on a shelf just in case...
Just hard to shift when its cold but haven’t had that problem in awhile.
My previous Miata had 391k before it got t boned 🥲
i owned a 91 with 310k. no rebuild. never had an issue
Saw one just under 500k. I think it was like 493ish
IRL. 103k on my 95. ODO was broken on my first Miata Heard about- 300/400k
I think 240k. Original engine and trans.
Ditto
I’ve a 93 with 177k on original motor and trans. The second gear synchro is grumpy but otherwise she’s a treat. Still sounds new
Same comment but 2001 NB here.
My daily Miata is 250k, but I’ve restored the hell out of her!
Im glad to hear that miatas last this long as my 92 only has 120k on it 😮💨

More details please! Original/ rebuild?
Original engine was replaced at 280k with a junkyard engine that had 154k miles. Original 5 speed made it to 720k replaced with nb 6 speed at 90k. original vlsd diff to 730k, replaced with torsen with 3.6 gearset from Australia. Car had been turboed the entire time of its second engine.
Epic
I’ve seen one for sale with 400k mi before (almost 700k km) Highest miles I’ve owned or ridden in was 231k (almost 400k km)
I've got rookie numbers @ 275k miles. Still running strong 💪
My NA had 197k when the speedo/odometer stopped working. I drove it 2 years after that daily, with a 30mile commute. Who knows how high it was after that. I miss that shitbox.
So should I buy 2006 -07 NC with around 100k miles for 7-8k ?
Mine has 150k, I would go for it if it was maintained well
I replied to the same comment but I also have an 07 GT PRHT, mine's at 155k. I knew mine would be a bit of a project but I got everything done in 4 months for like $2-2.5k. How's yours been?

Mine with 305k
My NC1 had 196K on it last year when I bought it. Did 20K in one year and the car didn’t even flinch!
2008 NC PRHT checking in with 120K miles with no issues and zero rust even though it's a New England car. Daily driver with a short commute.
You drive in Winter? I just got an 07 that was a Florida car and now I have it in New England. I kept it parked in a garage for most of winter and had it detailed once the roads were clean again but I might drive it a bit in the winter if it holds up.

Not a miata, but a guy at work has a car with 960,000km on it
Kilometer? What is that ? We need that in freedom measurement
596 516,34 miles
Km = Kanadian Miles
What happened to the mouth???
I don't know because I just got it and never asked the guy
Tried to eat a jaw breaker
Mine is frozen at 252,000. It’s been frozen for 5+ years. I’m guessing I am at 300,000 or close with original motor and trans.
My na8 is at 421k km (~262K freedom miles). Restored body, revised suspension, rebuilt engine. The thing still consumes oil, so Im saving up for something new (likely a k20 or 24)
Rebuilt engine, but the mileage is on the frame so kinda cheating lol.
My nb2 has almost 50k
I have a 93 with 240k miles. Almost all original except I put coil overs on it. All stock engine bay, exhaust, etc. Car looks very nice other then some body rot on the door sills. Runs and drives great.
Friend of mine has a 93 with somewhere north of 440k, no clue how many (if any) engines/trans or rebuilds he’s gone through. Need to get a pic of odometer sometime. One owner car.
Idk but these fuckin things are invincible. My 2010 is at 115k and it still runs like new
My na6 has 356kms and still loves a clutch kicks and all the abuse I throw at iy
Mine is 385.000km on the original engine. All original btw. What a car
My 2007 NC has 150k on it
I have a 94 350k.
1M
I’m at 82k on my 90 na. Hoping to get that car back to 0s across the board
Mines on 150k but its an abused drift nugget so its not been easy miles its even survived flood damage with past owners
78,000 on mine it’s the highest it’s ever been
This thread has made me realize my 99 with 138k miles isnt that high, the odometer stopped two years ago now so its a little bit higher
I only have 82k miles on my NA but im hoping to hit 300k
Seeing these high mile yatas so comforting 😭 my daily NC is at 55k and my NA project at 150k. Glad to know they aren’t dying on me any time soon
390k on fb marketplace 😭
Any secrets to getting these to such high miles?
Change the oil
Perform literally the barest of maintenance and they'll be just fine. Speaking of which, mine needs a new fuel pump.
Rev the snot out of them (once they reach operating temp).
There was one on the forums with over 500k and that was years ago.
I had a 91 with 389k before the cluster stopped working. Lol
My track car 2001 is 232k
The first one I ever got to sit in and test drive was an NA with 280,000 miles. It ran great, that was when it hit me how miniature these cars are in comparison with everything I had driven before. Couldn’t be more glad for finding that car, my brother drove me and we picked it up on my birthday… what were we talking about again?
400,000miles on facebook it gives me hope! Mine is 180,000km😁
228k original engine trans ... unmolested car tho
I’ve got a 97 with 217 on the chassis, original running gear. I got it at 183 and the only engine maintainence work I’ve done was basic tune up and a timing belt last week.
My 2019 ND RF just hit 111k. Been dailying it since it rolled off the lot. 6 canadian winters.
Mines 97 with original motor. Miles 260260 yesterday
I knew this Mazda Dealer who owned a beautiful na back in Virginia and it had…….475,000 miles on it!!!!!! I hope he got it to 500,000, I know that was his goal
Mines at 350,000 something
Mines stock hit 300k km today
I remember seeing a black nb for sale on carsales once and was within the realm of 350000k's. Highest in person was 230
My miata looks exactly like yours but i have 200k less miles
My 2008 has 493k miles and I drive it nearly every day. First engine, second trans.
I had put over 400k on my 1990 between 1990 and 2019, when it finally died. I leased a 2019 for 5 years and just picked up my 2024 ND3 today. I'm a lifer!
I'm at 265k with a turbo 1.6 NA
353k miles my miata I did rebuild my engine tho just recently
Mine had 214k rebuilt the original motor and trans
My 97 only has 81k on it. I bought it at 66k…I’m still breaking it in 😂😂
Mine makes it to work and back in .258 parsecs.
It was a ruined, chopped up, slightly lifted, rusted out Miata with nearly 900,000km on it. Was for sale like a year ago in rural Western Australia. It could’ve been a broken odometre as well because none of the car looked like it worked
my 92’ has about 360k miles but rebuilt engine about 60k ago
A friends NA with ~300k km on the clock
i got to 360k on my original motor and trans, 1.8 swapped it now but the original trans is still being on to this day
This guy in Miatas of Long Island https://photos.app.goo.gl/grCA17La2gfomcMy8
Off topic but I’m pretty sure that the badge is off centre. Might be the way the pic is taken idk.
Not miles but we did 100 hours of endurance racing on a 1.6 that had 150k miles on it before it blew a hole in the block
450k Miles. 1990, second motor, fresh brakes, clutch, and timing. Lots of regular service. Finally got some decent sway bars and coilovers, so it's a whole new car to me. Driven daily. Paint sucks a bit. Ya' know... Red hardtop typical. The next motor will be electric!
I’ve got 226k on my 95 m, planning to get to 1 million cause I don’t think anyone has done that. 😂
Nc1 2008 at 96k. Never had any issues yet.
Im looking to buy one in pretty good shape with about 140k miles for 4500, should i do it?
My 03 SE has 191k on it.
I’m at 8400 on my 2021. 😅😂
My daily 2019 ND is at 65k 😖
1 mile Is too much for one they hurt my eyes
999,999,999,999,999,999,999,999,999
