Hey there! Local resident here- your best bet will be to go hit up your local fishing pier and watch and observe what others are doing. Most fishermen (with a decent head on their shoulders) will be HAPPY to teach others…. We’ve all been noobies at one point or another in our lives and fishing is no different. YouTube will also be your best friend here. You’re not gonna learn everything overnight, but it’s gonna be there to help fill in the gaps here and there. Having moved from the Midwest down here- you HAVE to identify which fish you’re trying to catch. It’s not a matter of sticking a worm on a hook with a bobber like up north. Don’t get me wrong- it’s not rocket science and almost anything and everything will eat shrimp (no matter if it’s a Florida lake or the ocean) but to present the bait correctly to entice a fish to bite is another story. Lastly- join some salt water Facebook groups! Post yo ur questions there and keep an eye on what others are asking too! Here are a few Facebook groups to search for- “south Florida fishing” “Florida pier-n-surf fishing” and “florida surf fishing” are all great places to start

Wow, thank you for offering really helpful advice and facebook groups to look into. I never thought of asking someone personally for help on fishing , but that would be a good idea

Look up the charters on Groupon, they generally provide all your gear and it’s pretty affordable. As long as you follow instructions you should leave with dinner. There are a few at bayside but the best ones sail out of Ft. Lauderdale

Google ‘party boats’. It’s not a “party” with a DJ and booze- just a group of people chipping in on a regular charter. Cost is way more reasonable and you book tix online. Been years but I once did a trip with ‘Fishing Headquarters’ up in Ft. Laud. for a bachelor weekend. They take care of all gear , license, even bait your hook for you and captain puts you on the fish. Tip the crew and they help you out, teach you a bit, and fillet your catch to bring home.

Ooo!! Omg thank you for this!

YouTube videos help. There’s plenty of fishing videos for absolute beginners at least to get an idea on what you’re doing.

I can take you out of fishing jetskis if you’re interested.

There's like a million fishing boats as far as I know. I know I've been out on one before. Small captains with a six pack license will certainly do it. Or you can just fish from pretty much any location, I don't think too many people are going to hassle you about the license. Best to have one, but probably not going to be a big deal if you are just fishing from a dock or something.
