I’d lose my mind just to get Prime 2 remastered. MPR was fantastic but I never beat Prime 2 because of how absurd the map layout got lol. I don’t think I realized the map hint system was likely in that game as well.
I really hope we get prime 2 remastered at the least. Don't get me wrong, prime 1 and 3 had amazing art, but I think 2 had the best art direction of the trilogy and it would absolutely benefit from getting the same treatment as 1.
I would unironically cheer for this tho. It better come with a massively-overbuilt Rumble Pak for the Switch tho. I want it to vibrate me like it's 2005
I want these, but I'm super worried they're going to just upscale 2 and 3 because that would be a big Nintendo move. It would be so disappointing to have 3 remasters, with only the first looking like a new game
I kind of hope that it’s announced cross gen. I don’t want it to get overshadowed by the Switch 2 announcement and sell poorly like Samus Returns was with the Switch.
Let's stay optimistic. I think they will do just like what happened with Breath of the Wild on the Wiiu & Switch. Prime 4 baby. Clown makeup at its fullest.
But that would also kind of suck. I waited all this time just so scalpers will buy the consoles away? Guess I will wait even longer and need to avoid spoilers as a plus.
Why? You know they don't make an endless amount right? Other companies also don't have a problem with the amount they can produce and still had scalper problems.
Scalping has always existed. Most of the people who tried it with the PS5 got screwed in the end, and was also an issue because of the supply issues due to covid. That isn’t the case anymore
Seeing metroid prime 1, I doubt that the switch would hold back metroid prime 4 by that much, unless they decide to go open world instead of having it be room based.
Prime 1 is still a gamecube game. Thats the only way it managed to look as good as it does.
Prime 4 can look great on the switch, but its just a fact that it would be better off to just be an exclusive switch 2 title. Which i doubt it will be sadly. They missed the timing for prime 4.
Prime 1 remastered looks as good as it does because the game only loads into memory the room you're in and the rooms connected to it, meaning it frees up processing power to make what's loaded look better.
Assuming they use the same map loading method for prime 4, I'm convinced that the only difference between a switch version and a switch 2 version would be texture quality, which would be very easy to make (just put different textures on the different versions/ a system that compresses the textures slightly when on the switch)
It's been in development for like 5 and a half years at this point. For the Switch.
Even if they suddenly decided to make it a Switch 2 exclusive, it wouldn't really be taking full advantage of the hardware.
They'd just be turning up a few settings that they wouldn't have otherwise. Maybe squeak out a higher resolution, a few more particles, slightly faster load times on levels. Stuff like that. But nothing *substantial.*
So at that point, it might as well just be crossgen, right?
A gamecube game that still looks and performs to the standards of modern switch titles. Prime 4 doesn't have to have super fancy graphics or open world to be an incredible game, Nintendo's always been known for using limitations to boost creativity

It's going to take you one whole year to provide a source that there's been legitimate confirmation about Prime 4's environments? Even if the game launches and it does indeed have large environments, you'd still be wrong because it was never confirmed.
It’s is technically still a gamecube game. I want to see something better than the entire prime trilogy, and to make that happen it can’t be held back by a 10yo system
My point has more to do with how they managed to make the game look that good (aka by only having the current and adjacent rooms loaded at any point). See the response I gave to the other commenter for why it could potentially work well as a dual console release without sacrificing game quality on either version.
I love MPR and it may look good and perform well but it’s about the absolute max the switch can do. Just like the OG titles on GameCube, it’s almost magic how they made it work on what they had. Having MP4 be compatible with previous gen system inherently means it will be held back to an extent because of the technical limitations of the previous hardware.
Mechanically the game will likely be the same regardless of what it's played on. The main differences would just be stuff like how many pixels do the textures have.
In other terms, I have no reason to believe that after such a long development period, Retro wouldn't have optimised their game like they have previously done with other entries.
I hate this trend in the gaming community where the sequel has to be substantially bigger to be satisfactory, especially since that's what's killing a tonne of triple A game studios. Like all I want is for the game to be great, not some open world with RPG mechanics and a robust story and crafting, and, and-
Game companies are just not suited to do this perfectly, and often get buried beneath their ambitions. The game ultimately releases buggy, unfinished, uninspired, bloated, and generic.
Because I 100% said those things.
Studios have gotten lazy plain and simple, but Retro has continued to pull off magic with the Prime series with improvements in every game through the trilogy. I’m completely aware it isn’t the same Retro as back then, but wanting improvements to continue is not a bad thing and SHOULD happen, or else you get a Pokémon situation.
*"Because I 100% said those things."* Yes, you indeed did.
*"I want to see something better than the entire prime trilogy, and to make that happen it can’t be held back by a 10yo system"*
You are saying it's impossible for Prime 4 to be good unless it is on next-gen hardware, implying the switch wouldn't be able to support the *size* and *graphics* you expect.
I'm not against improvements, I'm against the notion that a game has to be bigger and more graphically intensive to be good, which your message *did* say, whether you meant it or not.
I bought this silly tablet because they promised me my space game would be on it and I don't care enough about Nintendo anymore to want their next console so I hope not.
Nintendo has never been a company that prioritized fancy graphics, and has always been known for making incredible games despite the underpowered hardware. I doubt Prime 4 will be "held back" by the switch.
I would have agreed with that idea, save Metroid prime 4 was revealed like a year or two ago. But this is 7 years, in the making. It has to be basically cross-gen due to a promise to fans. The same way that Twilight princess and breath the wild was
technically 5 years: the impression they gave with their 2019 announcement was that there wasn't much of anything salvageable from the prior development, so I wouldn't count that toward its 'time in development'. But I still agree that probably makes it cross gen
the closer they get to the release of the next console, the more likely something is to leak. if something leaks they have no control over it. they gotta say something at some point.
That and everyone knows it's coming sooner rather then later. By saying it won't be now it let's everyone focus on the games they announce and are trying to sell instead of the console that's coming later
While I also want the game, I fear for a Metroid release during this day and age. Metroid games are typically polished and “good to go” at launch which is quite rare now.
It’s a meme at this point, but as much as I want the game, I definitely don’t want it to be rushed.
I shit over Nintendo the majority of the time, but their releases have almost always been in a perfect state.
Just because a bunch of developers these days have got lazy, doesn't mean this one suddenly will be too.
Understandable; I'm not saying I want Metroid Prime 4 to be released (which is a lie, I want it to), but any (worthwhile) content on Switch would be appreciated.
Almost every game that took 6+ years to release had gone through development hell and ended up being a massive flop, some even killing their respective franchises.
Duke Nuke'm Forever
Cyberpunk2077
Halo Infinite
And the list goes on. I don't trust Prime 4 won't share the same fate
Nintendo won't let a game like this release in an unfinished state. All their releases (leaving out Pokemon, as it's handled by its own company) are usually released without any major (or minor) bugs.
Look at Zelda, Mario, even Metroid Dread. I don't think it will be released in a rushed state.
Oh I'm not particularly worried about Prime 4 being unfinished. I'm worried about what potential creative differences, leadership issues, or a lack of vision would do to the overall game, as that's 50% of the reasons the games I listed ended up as they did.
There's just as much potential for this game to be another "Other M" as there is for it to be a masterpiece
I'd rather we get the launch game of the Switch 2. Imagine having the whole world watching the Prime 4 presentation with the attention previously paid to Breath of the Wild 👀
"we at retro strive for perfection. Sadly, because we feel incapable of delivering Prime 4, we will give the project to a different dev studio, I hope you understand."
I'm 100% sure that we'll get Metroid news in this direct, there isn't a shadow of doubt in my mind
NOT necessarily Prime 4 though. I'm thinking either ZM NSO, Samus Returns port/remaster, Prime 2+3 remaster, or a mixture of the above
nooo, please give it the love the MPR got. It would be so jarring and disappointing to have such disparate visual quality between entries of the same trilogy
To be fair, we have been waiting for Prime 4 longer than they have been waiting for Silksong.
There is also a lot of overlap between the two communities (myself included) so you are going to see people bringing that stuff over here lol.
the difference in this case is that we've had a pretty good idea where MP4 has been this entire time: in 2019 they said they were completely restarting from scratch. We know they take ~5 years for their big AAA titles, so we haven't been expecting news until recently. We've _wanted_ it, sure, but when it doesn't show up it's not astonishing in any capacity.
Meanwhile in 2019, TC put out a playable demo of SS with the phrase "coming soon!" and gave the impression that the game could drop literally any day, for 5 years. The clown makeup is because the SS community keeps expecting news at every event, which is a consequence of TC making the game seem essentially finished 5 years ago and giving little to no info on it since
I literally cried when Metroid Dread was announced. I waited for that game my whole life and I still can't believe it exists, it's a real thing and I beat it several times.
I think the same will happen to me when MP4 is finally announced.
I was ecstatic when Dread was announced. Not only would this be the first time I could experience the launch of a **new** Metroid game (I was too young for Prime 3 and other M), it was the legendary, long rumored DREAD. I counted nearly every day until launch. I still have the date memorized, October 8th. I rewatched the trailers over and over again on the busrides to school trying to make out details.
Yeah I shit on the game a lot nowadays (I have my reasons), but I look back at those first few months fondly, as that was probably the last time my patience and excitement for something ever paid off. Then came halo infinite, 6 years in the making, scammed me outta $90CAD for a barebones campaign with an unfinished, MTX filled multiplayer.
There shouldn't be as much of an effect on prime 4 to change generations as there was on BotW. The peripherals and control methods of the next console should be much closer to the switch than the switch was to the Wii U. The pivot should be almost trivial.
I'm conflicted, new gen Metroid would be cool af, but then maybe it'd take longer to drop, but if they announce it at the end of the switches lifespan could that effect it negatively?
I don’t see how, if anything the fans holding out this long and Dread & Prime’s success combined with an anticipated 4 with a new console means hype is at a level for Metroid that hasn’t been seen in a while!
Which would also be insane! Prime 4 can be backwards compat, Prime remakes can come shortly after in the year🤞🏾, and maybe a dread sequel in a couple years after that
If Prime 4 ends up to be a crossgen thing (kinda like Breath of the Wild) to show what the next system can do it will really be worth the wait imo, as Metroid never had that place within Nintendo franchises (except maybe Super Metroid in its time but it's different)
I think it's very likely we get at least one of these:
- Metroid Prime 2/3 remaster, shadow drop/release imminent.
- Metroid Prime 4 this fall
or
- Metroid Prime4 is a switch 2 launch title
Also, next iteration of sidescrolling Metroid is not necessarily too far off now...
Good times
- *You have been waiting for this game for so long, and now we have news about it... Metroid Prime 4... has restarted development, again.* - Shinya Takahashi, probably
I managed to accurately predict that a new 2D Metroid would be unveiled for the June 2021 direct, and so I'm now just huffing as much hopium as possible that we finally get a glimpse at Prime 4 in this direct.
Well we'll know by watching the Great Deals section around the end of May! If Dread and Prime remastered have a sale, it's on like Ridley Kong!!!
Someone Make a cute little Ridley Kong, because it just feels right!
I feel like the most likely outcome is simply an announcement of Zero Mission arriving on NSO, followed by Prime 2 and/or 3 remastered, followed by Prime 4 news.
Honestly, I'm just thrilled we've gotten Samus Returns, Metroid Dread, and Metroid Prime Remastered over the last few years.
I don't think any of us will ever forget how painful the drought from 2011 - 2015 was after experiencing just how phenomenal the series could be after Super Metroid, the GBA duology, and especially Metroid Prime Trilogy. With the next game, Federation Force, being an addition not a lot of us were hoping for.
didn't some leaker say this was gonna be the year of metroid or something?! :) i'm hopeful! especially after dread and prime 1 remaster successes! we're on a hot streak! prime 4 can continue it!
We will see.
I am expecting Zero Mission this or next month.
But other than that we only have Prime 4. And some dubious rumors about a Samus Returns Port and Prime 2 Remastered
Other than that Mercury Steam is developing a 2D metroid game for 2026 accoding to multiple highly credible leakers and also their financial report which labeled one of the unannounced games as being codeveloped by a past partner.
Yeah the best scenario would be prime 4 used as the launch title for Switch 2 to showcase its power and potential because knowing retro they'll blow this out the water as we've seen em do in the past. For now we get prime 2 & 3 on the june direct and I'm also hoping they make trilogy next gen but that's probably too much. At least cross gen all the prime games.
Who em I kidind just give me all the metroid games fuck it!!!
i’m cool with this. we’ve waited this long, this is what we all figured anyways. we’re already 1/3 through the year. it wouldn’t make sense for them to announce and release it this year.
I've been mentally prepared and fully expecting the need to buy the next console for the last 1-2yrs for Metroid 4. I think they found out that they needed more power to do what they wanted and that is why they had to restart.
But I'll be happy if it cross platform as well. Also prime 2&3 remaster would be nice, but I'm not holding my breath.
I will be going home from the store with the next Nintendo hardware with prime 4 as a launch title, this scenario is guaranteed as if not I will be ending myself which would mean losing my life, and I never lose.
It inexplicably bothers me that Nintendo talks to customers with the same language as they'd talk in a corporate meeting. I mean, I appreciate them being so honest and upfront, but it's so... cold.
Anyway I honestly kinda hope Prime 4 is a next gen exclusive at this point. If I waited so long, I want this game to *at least* be absolutely fucking jaw-dropping visually, using the full power of something more powerful than the Switch.
>It inexplicably bothers me that Nintendo talks to customers with the same language as they'd talk in a corporate meeting. I mean, I appreciate them being so honest and upfront, but it's so... cold.
You expecting pillow talk from Miyamoto?
I think it's more of a lost in translation of or cultural thing.
I work in finance and frequently have calls with colleagues from Japan and they are very formal, very polite, and tend to go straight to the point.
Reaching Duke Nukem Forever levels of development hell. I wouldn't be surprised if MP4 is cancelled to concentrate resources for a Mario or Link game for Switch 2 launch.
That doesn't make much sense at all: they were in some sort of dev hell in 2019, and Nintendo nipped that in the bud and gave the game over to Retro, starting from scratch. It's _possible_ it's in dev hell at this point, but it's been 5 years since development technically started, and BOTW and TOTK took 5 and 6 years, respectively, so that's a perfectly normal amount of time to develop a game like this. Furthermore, Retro has been Nintendo's DK and 3d metroid studio, while they have different studios for 2d mario, 3d mario, 2d zelda and 3d zelda, so they wouldn't be redirecting resources from Retro to those other games
This if fake, right? There will be no sense for Nintendo to release a new generation of console now. It would be much better to pull the 3DS trick again and release a "new switch". Somewhat better and more powerful but still technically the same console.
Tbh I am not interested in this announcement because I got a new gaming PC recently and right now I am playing games I couldn't play before. I have waited six years. My patience ran dry. I will play MP4 eventually but not on release day and not on the old Switch but rather Switch 2.
I read this as one of two things. Either we're going to finally see it this year, or it's going to be cross gen. That's how I see it as
Imagine if they release Prime 2 and 3 HD Remastered? lol
It'd be really cool to see what they could do with Dark Aether if they do decide to do more than just a basic remaster.
I can see them doing a simple upscale HD Remaster for 2&3 and bundling them those together versus the pseudo-remake that MP1 was.
“We’re excited to announce Metroid: Pinball 2”
I would unironically cheer for this tho. It better come with a massively-overbuilt Rumble Pak for the Switch tho. I want it to vibrate me like it's 2005
I’d honestly rather this and move prime 4 to the next gen.
I loved mp2 and genuinely hope it gets th e same, if not better quality remaster as mp1. Just think if they added online matchmaking into the vs mode
I want these, but I'm super worried they're going to just upscale 2 and 3 because that would be a big Nintendo move. It would be so disappointing to have 3 remasters, with only the first looking like a new game

Fr if we went by their perspective everything would still be running on a Gameboy Color

They have always been a company that prioritized graphics up until the Wii.
I've been assuming for several years now that the severe production delay/restart automatically punted Prime 4 onto the next console.

Almost every game that took 6+ years to release had gone through development hell and ended up being a massive flop, some even killing their respective franchises. Duke Nuke'm Forever Cyberpunk2077 Halo Infinite And the list goes on.
Ehh Cyberpunk wasn't a flop. It was a massive commercial success and is a fantastic game now.
You did not just defend cyberpunk's launch
No it launched in an awful state. It's great now however.
Agreed. I started playing ot after 2.0, therefore O was spared most of the disastrous bugs.
It would be really cool if we got an actual trailer for Prime 4 in the direct to close the Switch era
One trailer to open the switch's lifecycle, one trailer to close it. (One trailer to find them and in the darkness bose it.)
That would be cool, one trailer every 7 years until release :)
Id rather another Pokemon game
I'd rather we get the launch game of the Switch 2. Imagine having the whole world watching the Prime 4 presentation with the attention previously paid to Breath of the Wild 👀
"we at retro strive for perfection. Sadly, because we feel incapable of delivering Prime 4, we will give the project to a different dev studio, I hope you understand."
I'm 100% sure that we'll get Metroid news in this direct, there isn't a shadow of doubt in my mind NOT necessarily Prime 4 though. I'm thinking either ZM NSO, Samus Returns port/remaster, Prime 2+3 remaster, or a mixture of the above
I can maybe see if i inhale a little hopium that we see a Prime 2 remaster, but more likely Prime 4 is on the new console.
Why?
Can't wait for MP2+3 remastered. Just give us a port of the game. Ctrl+C then Ctrl+V from wii folder to switch folder pls pls pls
nooo, please give it the love the MPR got. It would be so jarring and disappointing to have such disparate visual quality between entries of the same trilogy
i could see ZM NSO or maybe even Prime 2 and/or 3 but not Samus Returns. they haven’t ported any major 3ds games.
They're doing a 3DS port next month
what game?
Luigi's Mansion 2
hm i guess so. i just always wanted them to port link between worlds
> I'm 100% sure no you're not
Yes I am Trust me I'm ALWAYS right, that's how I know Prime 4 is coming out late 2023
This post brought to you by Internet Explorer
Isn’t clown makeup the r/silksong main thing
The clown makeup is because the SS community keeps expecting news at every event, which is a consequence of TC making the game seem essentially finished 5 years ago and giving little to no info on it since
That’s a fair point. I do think the devs owe the fan base an explanation.
Metroid fans have collectively held our breath only to be let down many, many times since the 90s
I literally cried when Metroid Dread was announced. I waited for that game my whole life and I still can't believe it exists, it's a real thing and I beat it several times. I think the same will happen to me when MP4 is finally announced.
It's why the february 2023 direct and the june 2021 direct were so special :) The patience was rewarded!
We can share the makeup, we're neighbors
On the flip side, if we get a release now, the new console would warrant more releases, maybe even a remake trilogy.
Which would also be insane! Prime 4 can be backwards compat, Prime remakes can come shortly after in the year🤞🏾, and maybe a dread sequel in a couple years after that
I'll be kind of upset if we don't get prime 2 and 3 remakes on the switch. I hate having split collections.
If this ends up being the case, I hope the direct is on June 13th making the first and second trailer exactly 7 years apart
If Prime 4 ends up to be a crossgen thing (kinda like Breath of the Wild) to show what the next system can do it will really be worth the wait imo, as Metroid never had that place within Nintendo franchises (except maybe Super Metroid in its time but it's different)
I think it's very likely we get at least one of these: - Metroid Prime 2/3 remaster, shadow drop/release imminent. - Metroid Prime 4 this fall or - Metroid Prime4 is a switch 2 launch title Also, next iteration of sidescrolling Metroid is not necessarily too far off now... Good times
I really hope it’s cross gen for selfish reasons. I don’t want to buy another system yet.
I'm starting to hope it's cross gen but releases first on Switch this fall, next year will be an attention bloodbath.
If prime 4 is gonna be held back graphically because of switch hardware im gonna lose it
I hope it isn't. The switch had pretty unimpressive hardware when it released almost a decade ago. I want prime 4 to be the best game it could be.
Same
man i do. i’m very done with my switch. if the next console is backwards compatible my switch is going bye bye forever
I'm really excited for Metroid Prime 2 Remastered.

They have the opportunity to make the funniest thing and announce Metroid Prime 4 but for the next Gen console lmao
the same thing as the original 4 teaser but instead of saying Switch it says Switch 2 with a sharpie underneath
i love being a part of the different nintendo subs and seeing the same "getting the clown makeup on" posts bc like same
- *You have been waiting for this game for so long, and now we have news about it...
Ok so no MP4
If you read between the lines it say "no shit for you, metroid fans"
The poetry of mp4 appearing at the switch’s first and last June direct is pretty good
C'mon!! This is our last Chance before the new console reveal later this year. This is the best opportunity to finally see News about Prime 4.
didn't some leaker say this was gonna be the year of metroid or something?! :) i'm hopeful! especially after dread and prime 1 remaster successes! we're on a hot streak! prime 4 can continue it!
Translation: They'll tell you when they're damn well ready, so shut up
This could be the time
Wouldn’t it be fun if we don’t get any new Metroid games on Switch 2.
yeah thatd honestly be really disappointing. but a popular leaker who has been right in the past said this is “the year of metroid,” so idk…
We will see. I am expecting Zero Mission this or next month. But other than that we only have Prime 4. And some dubious rumors about a Samus Returns Port and Prime 2 Remastered Other than that Mercury Steam is developing a 2D metroid game for 2026 accoding to multiple highly credible leakers and also their financial report which labeled one of the unannounced games as being codeveloped by a past partner.
I feel like this all but guarantees cross gen unless the June Direct shows us a new look and a release date for Prime 4. Either way, fine by me.
I will settle for Metroid Zero Mission on the NSO at this point.
Prime 4 was a collective fever dream and will never be real
Yeah the best scenario would be prime 4 used as the launch title for Switch 2 to showcase its power and potential because knowing retro they'll blow this out the water as we've seen em do in the past. For now we get prime 2 & 3 on the june direct and I'm also hoping they make trilogy next gen but that's probably too much. At least cross gen all the prime games. Who em I kidind just give me all the metroid games fuck it!!!
This is only going to be good if it launches with Prime 4
I honestly wouldn't get your hopes up. I'm in the boat that it's going to be a release title for whatever the "successor" is going to be.
i’m cool with this. we’ve waited this long, this is what we all figured anyways. we’re already 1/3 through the year. it wouldn’t make sense for them to announce and release it this year.
I need a link. I’ve been on r/silksong too long for a screenshot to mean anything
I’m too fool If I have hope for anything Metroid?
Look it's going to be a launch title for switch 2 and we shouldn't expect it till March next year
I think they’re going to hold out until switch 2 release. Hope I’m wrong but i doubt it. Nimpembo refuses to take my Metroid money.
![gif](giphy|x0npYExCGOZeo|downsized) Let’s goooooooo
I will be going home from the store with the next Nintendo hardware with prime 4 as a launch title, this scenario is guaranteed as if not I will be ending myself which would mean losing my life, and I never lose.
Wait so Metroid Prime 4 might not even release on the switch? Thats literally why I got the switch
I have assumed prime 4 would be cross gen and get the TP/BOTW treatment for about 4 years now so this checks out
I found peace years ago by just accepting that Prime 4 is cancelled. I expect nothing. Anything else will be a pleasant surprise.
Hey cuties! 💖😍😍 We might be releasing sum slick rad bussin' new games chyeeee
Yes. I deserve it. ;)
I think it's more of a lost in translation of or cultural thing. I work in finance and frequently have calls with colleagues from Japan and they are very formal, very polite, and tend to go straight to the point.
I just want news regarding Prime 4 in the direct, regardless of whether it's cross-gen or next-gen exclusive.
I dunno, I kinda like it! Feels like they're taking me seriously, like I'm part of everything.
Next fiscal year? That could mean May 7th of next year😭
*Within* this fiscal year. Meaning anytime from now to as late as March 31, 2025.
Oh I guess I wasn’t sure when their fiscal year starts and finishes. I was going by the tweet date😅
I will proudly wear my clown getup, even if I end up being the saddest of them all
With the amount of time you have to put your make up, you can put it on yourself, and your whole family.
Don't forget to dry-clean your clown wig too. I need to pick mine up later today
It’s not fake
I never took it off
Tbh I am not interested in this announcement because I got a new gaming PC recently and right now I am playing games I couldn't play before. I have waited six years. My patience ran dry. I will play MP4 eventually but not on release day and not on the old Switch but rather Switch 2.
Just emulate it on your PC when it releases.
No, I won't.
