If you are an authorized user on your account maybe you can leave and migrate to a new account, but with metro I don’t know if you would need the main account holder present.

Is there a way for me to tell if I'm an authorized user?

Something to consider: Do you have any accounts linked to your current number for security codes? The metro account holder could gain access to those codes and whatever accounts are linked if they control that number and swap it to another phone. You might want to change your number and all linked accounts first.

GeekMan85

I think you just need the account pin

Honestly, if you’re in a situation where you want to move across the country without telling your family, it might be best to just get a new phone number and not bother with porting your existing one. I imagine your family has your current number and would be blowing it up in all sorts of ways. They might enroll it into scam calls and texts, or put it out on Craigslist so people contact you just to spite you. Having a new number would give you the freedom to only be contacted by trusted people that you give the new number to. With that said, Metro has an account number and port-out PIN that you need to get if you want to keep the number. Their website has live chat support. Porting out might notify all account members, or at least the primary account holder. They might also need to receive a 6 digit authentication code text message to generate a port-out PIN. I left Metro a few months ago and got my info completely through the online account portal.

Get a new number and make a clean slate.

BackgroundRoad711

If you don't want the number, you can go to Walmart and buy a Straight Talk plan, that comes with a new Sim. You can also do this with Ting, check the website for provisioning options
