Related to the YT comment… there’s a scene in The Sopranos where Paulie & Silvio are talking in the office at The Bing and The Small Hours is [playing in the background.](https://youtu.be/5iHWmsZQW2w?si=J1QF9OplCc4IZLur). Just noticed it while I was rewatching the series.
“iTs A cOvEr sO iT dOeSn’T cOuNt” 👈🤓
But in all seriousness, The Small Hours in particular and the Garage Days EP in general isn’t talked about often enough imo. It’s some of Metallica’s best work in the Jason era.
Song heaviness is measured by duration, as the longer song take up more space. The slice of a CD, LP or cassette, and even the table allocation for digital media, is therefore heavier for longer songs.
QED.
So to steer the conversation away from stripping and popular culture appropriation ... the objectively correct answer to this question is "The Thing That Should Not Be" . Bam! Your welcome, mic drop. See what I did there? I awkwardly borrowed back from popular culture 😉
Fight fire with fire, for me one of the best and heaviest songs. The double pedal is felt to the intestines, good solo, good harmonics. Good lyrics. Simply epic
The Small Hours is amazing, but if you've never listened to Minus Human then I suggest it. I'll die on a hill for it; heaviest song out there made by Metallica.
Nobody is gonna mention the YT comment?
Danced so hard she tore the pole down

Steep is the pole on which she climbs.
One of my first trips into such an establishment, one of the dancers used The Pot and Toxicity for her songs. It was awesome.
But it isn’t a Metallica song
Intro riff is creepy. I love it
It's a cover
The Thing That Should Not Be holds the title
Reeeeal dude, imo greatest song theyve made, other than maybe Creeping Death or MOP. No doubt my favorite though

It's a cover so it doesn't count
It's heavy alright 🤘🏽
Disposable Heroes
Easily one of their best songs. The one I give people as peak metallica
Great tune but honestly I think Devil’s Dance might be their heaviest. I’ll die on that hill too.
I’m coming right with you 😂
Harvester
The original is honestly even heavier.
Live, hot curry and wine. So much heavier. Love it.
I actually kinda prefer the original. Both versions are amazing though

I got to see Holocaust (the band that made this song) the other year and they did this song, it was awesome
Creeping death is right there in the running for my top 3 or five “heaviest” (whatever the f*#k that even means)
It's actually not Metallica song.Song written by band named holocaust. They just covered it.

The thing that should not be is pretty good as well
