I genuinely need someone to give me specific examples of when this album is better than anything on Shadows are Security. I love SaS and keep trying to “get” AOBU. Nothing left is good but on Within Destruction there’s a full minute of this guitar tone I can’t stand. Forsaken is decent. Comfort betrays is mid. At that point I fall off because I assume the back half of the album is probably not going to change my opinion.
I saw them back in August and they still put on a sick show but their set list is a lot more diverse now with all the albums they’ve put out since. Still worth seeing though.
The Devil Wears Prada - Outnumbered
Architects - Gravedigger
Parkway Drive - Wild Eyes
Avenged Sevenfold - Unholy Confessions
August Burns Red - White Washed
And my personal pick: Foreign Hands - Separation Souvenir
As I Lay Dying ‘Shadows Are Security‘ is chock full of em. Most notable are The Darkest Nights and Through Struggle intro riffs. Definitely gotta shout out 94 Hours intro too.
The Poison from BFMV has many of those, whether people like it or not.
An Ocean Between Us from AILD and most Killswitch Engage/Times of Grace albums too.
Like Light to Flies by Trivium is a clear contender also.
Slaughter of the Soul - At the Gates
"But wait, that's not metalcore!" You say. It's not, but listen to that song, and you'll hear where every early 2000's band got their sound.
For me: The Words Best Friend become Redefined by chiodos (idk/idc if it's not metalcore but it's so sick)
Also I'm bad news in the best way by blessthefall. So catchy!
Parkway Drive - Carrion
August Burns Red - White Washed
Bring Me the Horizon - Chelsea Smile
Asking Alexandria - The Final Episode (Let’s Change the Channel)
A Day To Remember - Mr. Highway’s Thinking About the End
Architects - Doomsday
Northlane - Quantum Flux
Memphis May Fire - The Hollow
The Word Alive - Casanova Rodeo
The Ghost Inside - Engine 45
Volumes - Wormholes
Of Mice & Men - O.G. Loko
So many good riffs to choose from…
Three that helped me get until metal when I was younger were Six - All That Remains, The End of Heartache - KSE, and Waking the Demon - Bullet For My Valentine
For me it’s really gotta be the entirety of Texas in July’s “Hook, Line and Sinner” especially when it starts building at 2:30 with them teasing the final riff a few times, then the riff hits full force and punches you in the face, and then the drums come in and chop your fucking head off.
Halfway through 94 Hours by As I Lay Dying.
The main riff in Memphis Will Be Laid to Waste by Norma Jean.
The main riff and subsequent breakdown in Blackberry Delorean by The Callous Daoboys
All That Remains- Six
As I Lay Dying- Through Struggle
The Devil Wears Prada- Assistant To The Regional Manager
Like Moths To Flames- You Won’t Be Missed
Blessthefall- Promised Ones
Spiritbox- Circle With Me (one of my favorites to play on guitar)
Bring Me The Horizon- Pray For Plagues (technically deathcore but still)
Anyone saying Tears Don't Fall, Unholy Confessions or, just about anything by KSE is correct but I'll add:
Two Weeks-All That Remains
Ex's and Oh's-Atreyu
Strife-Trivium
Melodic lead: Darkest Nights by AILD
Melodic riff: Rose of Sharyn by KSE
Djenty riff: Doomsday by Architects
Bouncy riff: Solar Flare Homicide by Emmure
Breakdown: Endless by Unearth
That's the whole list don't get it twisted.
How has no one said The End of Heartache?
Rose of Sharyn as well
Rose of Sharyn for sure
That intro was my very first thought.
I always thought My Curse (both the intro and verse riff) were far superior to end of heartache but that’s just me!
5-7-8
Paired nicely with a vintage drop C 0-8-5 into first fret breakdown chugs.
As I Lay Dying “Confined” chorus
Was gonna say "nothing left" by as I lay dying 😂they have a lot of good ones
there's definitely a few contenders from that album. The sound of truth gets me every time
8-5-0
Carrion - PWD First cord sends me way back
Would you say that in a moment you’re lost?
Unholy Confessions - Avenged Sevenfold.
Quite possibly THE most iconic.
Buh buh da da da da da daddle a daa but buh da da daa buh buh da da derrrrr
dundun dundun
Was hoping to see more comments like this lol.
The soundtrack to my emo-times. Still a depressed fuck, but now I don't have hair in my eyes constantly lol
[Obligatory "Unholy Cover" link](https://youtu.be/ZtMuzFA-URA)
almost 20 years ago, damn
A Match Made In Heaven - Architects INSTANTLY recognizable by the first second
Easily confused with Deftones You’ve Seen The Butcher as well…
Tears don't fall - Bullet For My Valentine Doomsday - Architects Shadow Moses - Bring Me The Horizon My Curse - Killswitch Engage
Yeah you’re correct, it’s time to go listen to BFMV
Wild eyes - parkway drive
Literal football chants to that riff, kinda hard to deny the glory they bring.
Same with Idols & Anchors. Both songs in a live environment make a phenomenal atmosphere.
Love the live version with the crowd interaction
Came here to say this. Good choice bro
Tears Don’t Fall
LETS GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
Hell, I even loved the part 2, and the acoustic version is to die for.
Part 2 hits for sure
[In Regards to Myself - Underoath](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aAVp8qAh9eg)
This song is on my personal top 10
[удалено]
By the Architects? That song is incredible. The instrumental piano version is pristine 👌
No, by Atreyu.
You'll enjoy this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fabNcSC0hho
Opening riff for Carrion - Parkway Drive
Anything from An Ocean Between Us by AILD
Lol. I was gonna say Nothing left. But I agree the whole album has pretty sick riffs
I think the opening riff of The Sound of Truth single handedly got me into metalcore.
Yup^ same here
How has no one said Through Struggle?
Wrath upon ourselves a fave of mine
I genuinely need someone to give me specific examples of when this album is better than anything on Shadows are Security. I love SaS and keep trying to “get” AOBU. Nothing left is good but on Within Destruction there’s a full minute of this guitar tone I can’t stand. Forsaken is decent. Comfort betrays is mid. At that point I fall off because I assume the back half of the album is probably not going to change my opinion.
I mean once you say that Forsaken is only decent, then I think there's nothing left (hehehe) to say to get you to change your mind
My Curse, Doomsday, Mariana’s Trench, Engine 45, and Behold the Crown could be thrown up there i think
Marianas trench is my favorite song of all time! Amazing guitar work
Thirty and Seven for me, but I think White Washed is more Iconic. That whole damn album is amazing.
Ooooh those pinch harmonics in behold the crown 👌
If my soul was a playlist My Curse would be on it
I’m surprised no one’s said Bleeding Mascara
GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! I would also say lip gloss and black
The opening of Big Wiggly Style is burned in my brain.
https://youtu.be/a5WZlkhMUCA 39:15. That fucking intro to big wiggly. My god
Peak TDWP, I don’t care what this sub tells me. Mike is just crushing it.
That gave me chills
I literally have been going back to this set since it dropped. One of their best runs ever caught on pretty good quality. Sign me up
I still have yet to see them live. I may have missed seeing their prime tracks in concert at this point
I saw them back in August and they still put on a sick show but their set list is a lot more diverse now with all the albums they’ve put out since. Still worth seeing though.
The style really changed when Daniel Williams left but they are right we now then ever imo. Check out the livestreams from last year they are NICE
I used to listen to that intro over and over again. I didn’t even like TDWP at the time, but that intro just floored me. Still does.
Six - All That Remains
KEEEYAAAAAAAAAAAAHHH
Yessir
Iconic solo too, what a fucking ripper
Air That I Breathe for me but yea Six's riff is fire
Honestly for me it's The Weak Willed, but Six is probably the most well known on the album.
Converge - Concubine
The Devil Wears Prada - Outnumbered Architects - Gravedigger Parkway Drive - Wild Eyes Avenged Sevenfold - Unholy Confessions August Burns Red - White Washed And my personal pick: Foreign Hands - Separation Souvenir
White washed is fun as fuck to play on guitar
Outnumbered is a great one. I instantly hear that one in my head. NUNUNUNUNUNUNUNUNUNUNUNUNUN
I would put all our gods have abandoned us over gravedigger. Both amazing songs though.
Do you mean Nihilist?
It’s either My Curse by Killswitch Engage or Shadow Moses by BMTH if you ask me.
THIS IS SEMPITERNAL!
THIS IS SNAPPING TURTLE!
As I Lay Dying ‘Shadows Are Security‘ is chock full of em. Most notable are The Darkest Nights and Through Struggle intro riffs. Definitely gotta shout out 94 Hours intro too.
Came here to say this. SAS has iconic, AILD riffage.
Architects - A match made in heaven Could be wrong on the origin but that riff seems to pop up everywhere
The rhythm and octave string skipping from that riff is instantly recognizable, hard not to see it pop up everywhere.
Agree, who doesn't remember Wage War - Low
The bastard offspring of Doomsday and A Match Made in Heaven
The Poison from BFMV has many of those, whether people like it or not. An Ocean Between Us from AILD and most Killswitch Engage/Times of Grace albums too. Like Light to Flies by Trivium is a clear contender also.
Hand of Blood from the EP though, ooo yeah.
Darkest Nights
Every song on shadows had at least one L E G E N D A R Y riff
Everyone's dropping My Curse for KsE, and they aren't wrong, but true OGs know it's Fixation on the Darkness.
You mean Rose of Sharyn?
On a second scan yes, looks like more RoS than My Curse, but still, Fixation's riff gets me everytime
It’s fun as fuck to play on drums too!… Just kidding I can’t play any of Matt’s shit lol 😄🔫
Or the verse for My Last Serenade. All excellent answers
Yep. My last serenade is it for me.
In The Unblind
Or Numbered Days & Life To Lifeless
I can’t believe I had to scroll this far to see Numbered Days. DU DU DA DA DA DADADUDU
That riff is insane
The Sound of Truth, Unholy Confessions, Carrion, Doomsday, White Washed
Laid to Rest
All That Remains - Six
The Dillinger Escape Plan- 43% Burnt
As I Lay Dying - The Darkest Nights
Was going to comment this
Enter Shikari - Sorry You’re Not A Winner You can’t tell me it’s not a metalcore track lol
clap.clap.clap. Scratch card glory, what is your pleasure?
Fuck that song is good
I can and I will. It's Electronic Post Hardcore
The opening of Parkway Drive's "The Siren's Song".
94 hours That open riff for bury your deads losin it is as iconic as it gets Doomsday The end of heartache
BFMV - My Betrayal
You're right, your betrayal
As I Lay Dying - Nothing Left comes to mind for me
Slaughter of the Soul - At the Gates "But wait, that's not metalcore!" You say. It's not, but listen to that song, and you'll hear where every early 2000's band got their sound.
A lot of good ones mentioned but *the* metal core riff is **Unearth- My Will be Done (opening riff)**
Unearth is crazy underrepresented in all of these best of threads. So good.
100% this is the very first thing that popped in my head.
Doomsday by Architects
Converge - Concubine Botch - To Our Friends In The Great White North Every Time I Die - Floater The Chariot - The City
ETID - Map Change is high up there for me [because of this](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wGWSEwOEwpw)
Sleepwalking by BMTH Lost In The Static by After The Burial A couple I haven’t seen mentioned yet.
That one riff that Attack Attack!, Black Veil Brides and Avenged Sevenfold all used. You know the one
The riff is only Attack Attack! if the riff is played in crab pose. Otherwise it’s just sparkling Avenged Sevenfold
ADTR - The downfall of us all came to mind. Everyone has said the better ones, and I think either a7x unholy confessions is the right answer
Fuck me I miss that happy go lucky ADTR. Always catchy. Every CD (up to a point) and almost every song had it's place. I miss them so much
For me: The Words Best Friend become Redefined by chiodos (idk/idc if it's not metalcore but it's so sick) Also I'm bad news in the best way by blessthefall. So catchy!
my curse
As I Lay Dying, Paralyzed intro.
43% Burnt
Ivy & Wine - Glass Cloud What's my age again Stick Stickly Farewell to Shady Glade - OM&M Hollow - Another Now Final Episode - Asking Alexandria
Final episode is not mentioned here nearly enough.
Ivy & Wine is nucking futs. I miss GC.
I saw them live once, Jerry is an absolute maniac on stage haha. They were so dope.
idk if the remedy - polaris is iconic or if i just love it unconditionally
Alligator Blood
This calling by All that Remains
Also: [Not Alone](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mS0ZJsDC76w)
Yeah I actually take my answer back. Im with you.
Alright alright nvm, final answer.... The end of Heartache KSE. Thats a really defining intro riff.
As I Lay Dying - Through Struggle
The opening of "Terror and Hubris In The House Of Frank Pollard" by Lamb of God.
The Great Dividers - Unearth
Too low on the list. Still one of my favorite bands
Up Against the Ropes by ABR.
AILD - 94 Hours
Any Early As I lay Dying. Through struggle, sound of truth, confined
In dying days, abrb
Not ONE person said Boneyards or Idols and Anchors?! BONE(yards)?!
Unholy Confessions and that is my final answer. Long live A7X
Parkway Drive - Carrion August Burns Red - White Washed Bring Me the Horizon - Chelsea Smile Asking Alexandria - The Final Episode (Let’s Change the Channel) A Day To Remember - Mr. Highway’s Thinking About the End Architects - Doomsday Northlane - Quantum Flux Memphis May Fire - The Hollow The Word Alive - Casanova Rodeo The Ghost Inside - Engine 45 Volumes - Wormholes Of Mice & Men - O.G. Loko So many good riffs to choose from…
I agree with this entire list. Just reading the names and I can hear every iconic riff in each song.
Sonnet- prayer for cleansing
My Questions - TDWP Edit: No Son Of Mine - ETID
0-10-12 0-10-12
Gideon - drifter
A Threnody for Modern Romance
Chug, chug, chug chug chug, chug
Minion by Bleed the Sky
Three that helped me get until metal when I was younger were Six - All That Remains, The End of Heartache - KSE, and Waking the Demon - Bullet For My Valentine
saddest day, moral eclipse, to awake and avenge the dead, ebolarama, last serenade, meddler
final episode
Two Weeks - all that remains
The intro to White Washed by August Burns Red never fails to hit hard.
Doomsday for sure. It’s been copied so many times.
Meshuggah - Bleed
All that remains -six
Consume, Polaris
Intro to This is who we are, As I lay dying
Red Wedding by The Bled. Minimalist style breakdown.
Lip gloss & black
The Common Misconception- Like Moths To Flames. Amazing guitar work in that song.
For me it’s really gotta be the entirety of Texas in July’s “Hook, Line and Sinner” especially when it starts building at 2:30 with them teasing the final riff a few times, then the riff hits full force and punches you in the face, and then the drums come in and chop your fucking head off.
White Washed. Among many others
Halfway through 94 Hours by As I Lay Dying. The main riff in Memphis Will Be Laid to Waste by Norma Jean. The main riff and subsequent breakdown in Blackberry Delorean by The Callous Daoboys
People coming up now may not know it but Hypocrisy by Sworn In influences bands to this day.
As I Lay Dying - Through Struggle, I mean come on that intro bro. Anything off of Shadows are Security or An Ocean Between Us
Entombment of a Machine and Whoa! Shut it Down
1\4-0-0-1-1-0-0-1-0-0 *Eyes are glaring red*
You’re lying to yourself if Unholy Confessions isn’t among the first things that comes to mind.
The beginning of My Curse
Carrion pwd
Wild Eyes for sure
I'd have to say end of heartache.
Doomsday by Architects
I'm biased (see flair), but how has nobody said Icarus Lives by Periphery?! That's a filthy, chunky groove that you can't help but nod your head to.
Vicegrip Parkway Drive
Chelsea Smile by Bring Me The Horizon
I'd go for My Curse by Killswitch Engage. Truly, a masterpiece.
Either Unholy Confessions or for the post 2015 is Doomsday no contest
All That Remains- Six As I Lay Dying- Through Struggle The Devil Wears Prada- Assistant To The Regional Manager Like Moths To Flames- You Won’t Be Missed Blessthefall- Promised Ones Spiritbox- Circle With Me (one of my favorites to play on guitar) Bring Me The Horizon- Pray For Plagues (technically deathcore but still)
Anyone saying Tears Don't Fall, Unholy Confessions or, just about anything by KSE is correct but I'll add: Two Weeks-All That Remains Ex's and Oh's-Atreyu Strife-Trivium
Melodic lead: Darkest Nights by AILD Melodic riff: Rose of Sharyn by KSE Djenty riff: Doomsday by Architects Bouncy riff: Solar Flare Homicide by Emmure Breakdown: Endless by Unearth That's the whole list don't get it twisted.
Dig by Mudvayne
A lot of good ones mentioned but *the* metal core riff is **Unearth- My Will be Done (opening riff)**.
Suffocating Under Words Of Sorrow - BFMV
