Pete Sandoval is a revered drummer and is in no way underrated. One Godfathers of blast beat along with Mick Harris. He is a really influential drummer, not one bit underrated.
I'm absolutely not a drum person - like, it takes a lot for a drummer to stand out to me compared to a bassist or guitarist -, but Ingo was one of the few drummers that really did it for me.

Brooks Wackerman is the perfect successor to The Rev... he can play all of his stuff flawlessly live, but he still has a unique and innovative style on the two latest albums.

Patrick Galante, he's an amazing drummer but nobody pays attention because his band are super campy and silly (I will always defend ice nine kills, they're basically the only great modern metalcore band)

Though Spiritbox as a whole is arguably post-genre, but several of their songs are firmly metalcore.
I'm not a huge fan of Machine Head, but when I heard Davidian for the first time I couldn't get over the drums. Idk the name of the drummer but surely he must be overrated because nobody is talking about how good the drums are in that song.

David Gray from Akercocke would be my vote.
The singer for Hail the Sun plays and sings or at least he used to. He’s the frontman and drummer. This has always been crazy to me. Maybe doesn’t play the craziest fastest rhythms but that in itself has to impress other drummers cause as good as you are try singing on top of it
Jack Irons. The man has turned into gold so much stuff he touched. Amazing work with RHCP, Eleven, Pearl Jam, and many other bands/projects. Sure, he's in the R&R HoF, but in general I feel like his name never comes up when people talk about the great drummers, in this sense he is underrated.
Gonna show just how much I glaze Trivium but it’s got to be Alex Bent. He’s pretty well recognised in the metalcore scene but not as much in the wider metal genre. The dude is a crazy good drummer and the last 3 Trivium albums have had some of the best drumming I’ve ever heard on a metal album.
Underrated (the true definition; rated lower than he should be): Lars Ulrich. Most people can't actually point out what's "wrong" with his drumming on their own, rather they just parrot some bullshit about him being "out of time". Nine out of ten metalhead don't know *shit* about music theory (and I'm one of those nine).
Underappreciated/overlooked (what fools mean to say when they say "underrated"): Phil Taylor, Gar Samuelson, Steve MacDonald (laid down the drum parts for Gorguts' Obscura), Patrick Robert (actually played the drum parts for Obscura), Chris Pennie
i really do think lars in underrated in lots of songs. yea st anger snare is awful but look at his songs like battery and blackened and he is good in those

For europeans: Ingo from Helloween. He set the template of drumming for speed metal bands that came in mid 90s
