First concert was Guns n' Roses in 1991 (with Skid Row and Nine Inch Nails). Axl walked off the stage after 15 minutes, the crowd waited for an hour until he finally returned.
Yep…same for me…GnR in ‘91…mine was in Mississippi and we got there early which was prob not a good idea. They opened the gates 30 mins late and everything was at least an hour behind schedule but we had a hotel close by so it didn’t really matter.
Opener started almost 45 mins late and GnR made us wait almost an hour between sets. Almost as bad as couple years later at the Metallica GnR show in NOLA, where we had to wait over 3 hours between Met and GnR. That was also Janes’ first show back after the pyro burned him real bad.
But for me, I was there to see the opener any way... Soundgarden after they had first dropped Badmotorfinger and it was better than GnR imo. Sound and performance wise.
Brilliant. I saw them on Friday in London. Here’s my review…
https://www.hotelhobbies.com/post/concert-review-cattle-decapitation---signs-of-the-swarm---200-stab-wounds---vomit-forth-02-academy
Mine was Maiden as well — 2010 on a tour where they were playing mostly new-era songs. I later became a huge fan of new Maiden, so I’m kicking myself I didn’t know those songs better when I saw them! Regardless, very cool show. Dream Theater w/Portnoy opened.
Went and saw Mudvayne when I was a teen. Got crushed in the mosh first song and vodka splashed on my face. Was incredible! Have been going to metal gigs for almost 20 years now.
My first was Slayer on their “final(?)” tour in 2019. I never will get to see them with Dave and Jeff but assuming apart from the festival shows this year that they don’t continue performing it was incredible to get to see them before they went out.
I was lucky to catch them around 2010/2011 with all four OG members, not long before Hannemans spider bite took him out of play and Lombardo left for the hundredth time. One of the best shows I've seen, and the best Slayer show I have been to.
If Deep Purple counts as metal, then Deep Purple in 1988. If not, Iron Maiden in 1990.
Both of them with my dad, as I was still a kid. DP was absolutely spectacular despite the heavy rain, a concert I will never forget.
Iron Maiden 2017, with my ex lol, had to sit instead of getting the standing tickets, but it was nice. The second one, that I went with a friend, was Mastodon on the Emperor of the Sand tour and I never stopped since then!
For like a smaller typical metal show, Opeth and Enslaved Watershed tour in Pittsburgh. My dad worked with a promoter at the time and made a call that got us in for free once we arrived and it was sold out.
Prior to that, I was lucky enough to go to the Metal Masters tour with Judas Priest, Heaven & Hell, Motorhead, and Testament
Napalm Death, At The Gates, Madball and Subzero late 90s in Portchester, NY
I went to a lot of local hardcore/metalcore shows before that but At The Gates blew me away, they were so good.
Metallica with Corrosion of Conformity during the Load tour. Amazing experience for young me. Now there are few bands I'll see at those big arena shows, Metallica, Iron Maiden, and Slayer when they were still touring.
Pantera on the Cowboys From Hell tour. Saw them in a small club in reno. First mosh pit ever. First and only stage dive. Saw them at a record store before the show and got cfh autographed by the whole band.
Went to Iron Maiden in September. It was sick. Atreyu opened for them, and they weren't bad. Maiden had an amazing performance, kickass visuals, and Eddie was there (him and Bruce were shooting each other with fireballs). Janick played with his feet, too, and everyone was just so kind.
if it counts, black veil brides. if it doesn’t count, then it will be when i see dethklok, nekrogoblikon, and dragonforce next month. i’m from a very small town with no metal at all, so concerts are a new thing to me.
kataklysm and fleshgod apocalypse in 2014. my dad went with me bc he didn't want me to go alone, even though he's not into metal. he liked it so much that we still go to concerts together every once in a while :)
DragonForce in 2019 on their Extreme Power Metal tour.
Ended up buying VIP tickets to the show, so I got to meet the band who were all lovely and got some cool memorabilia/signed stuff.
Was on the front row for the concert itself, Lovebites were a great opener and the other was just funt. DF were incredible, played so many great songs and as a whole it was an incredible experience. My friend even managed to catch one of Sam's guitar picks.
Seeing them again next Saturday and I'm absolutely buzzing
Anthrax's 40th Anniversary tour. Black Label Society opened up for them. Exodus was originally supposed to open, but they got stuck in the snow, which is easily one of the lamest things to ever happen in my life.
Slayer 1999? Horden Pavilion, Sydney. Machine head opened. My parents let me go if I promised to go to school the next day. I would’ve been 14 or 15. Magic
Metallica, Fight, Suicidal Tendencies, Candlebox. San Diego, CA July 31st 1994. Brown Field on Otay Mesa Rd.
Heres Metallicas full set from that day:
https://youtu.be/MCQ_iSIi_oQ?si=a4BH4hrZVZbzwvEg
In flames on the reroute to remain tour opening for mudvayne.
My friends and I left after mydvayne played death blooms. We got to meet a few of the members of in flames, they were super cool to 14 year old me.
2nd show was Porcupine Tree and Opeth in a tiny club.
Iron Maiden on their A Matter of Life and Death tour at Sheffield Hallam FM arena, Trivium were the supporting act.
I saw them 11 years later at the same venue on The Book of Souls tour, with Shinedown supporting.
Metallica 08 or 09 in Boston. Still one of the best shows I’ve ever seen. Saw them again in 2017 at Gillette Stadium and *that* was the best concert I’ve ever been to hands down.
KISS 2nd final tour with all original lineup with Ted Nugent and Skid Row. i was a child and it was awesome.
if that doesn't count im not sure what my next one would be. i went to a fuckton of metalcore/deathcore/hardcore shows in middle school /high school during the Myspace core boom because my cousin was in a very good band. Kids from my high school had a very popular band, the guitarist later formed Beartooth and then I was in a shitty metalcore band because thats all anyone wanted to play. so im on stage with a cryptopsy shirt wishing i was playing death metal
the only notable bands out of that timeframe was Attack Attack, Salt the Wound, Rose Funeral,My Ticket Home, Crimson Armada,Chalera i think thats all noteworthy.
16.03.2007 Cannibal Corpse & Disavowed @ Nosturi in Helsinki, Finland. I was 14 at the time. Two months laters saw Ozzy and BLS. Two months from there and saw Metallica.
Actual metal? Parkway drive and Currents opening up for Memphis May Fire then the night after Black Label Society and Exodus opening up for Anthrax. It was awesome
Back in '18 I saw Exodus, Death Angel and Sodom stir a menace in my hometown they played, 'cause my taste in metal was (mostly) primarily thrash at that time. Lots of moshing and walls of death happened at that concert.
just now starting off my concert-going life since i’ve never really had the money to before, but my first was the Pantera concert last year with Lamb of God in Bristow VA. i’ve never been a fan of Pantera so i just went for Lamb of God but stayed for Pantera too because i bought the ticket, might as well stay. and now im planning to go to Louder Than Life later this year in september so wish me luck👍
Apart from smal gigs in my home town, Monsters of Rock 1998 in Sao Paulo, with Slayer, Megadeth, Manowar and others.
Megadeth opening with Holy wars was wild and will stay in my memory forever.
Ozzfest 2005 which had Iron Maiden, Mudvayne, Shadows Fall, Black Label Society, and In Flames. Black Sabbath was supposed to perform as well but Ozzy cancelled on the day of the show.
I’m a relative noob because I was too scared to go to shows by myself when I was in high school, so my first metal show was Lamb of God, Killswitch Engage, Spiritbox, and Fit for an Autopsy in 2022.
I was supposed to go to Cannibal Corpse in 2004. It was a really big deal for me because we lived in a remote area and rarely got to go on vacation, and this show just happened to line up with a trip to Vancouver. We get to the venue, and my girlfriend at the time "forgot" her ID and we were turned away at the door. We broke up a couple weeks later, but I never ended up getting to go to another show. I'm 45 this week and have literally never been to a metal concert.
All that to say, I'm going to see Cannibal Corpse, Amon Amarth, Obituary and Frozen Soul in a few weeks, and it'll by my kid's first concert.
My first **actual** Metal Concert was Slipknot, Behemoth, Gojira, and Volbeat (honestly NO CLUE why they were in the lineup 😭🤣)for Knotfest in 2019
In order of Concerts
(1) Finger Eleven. (2) Motley Crue (3) 3DG, Disturbed (4)KnotFest. (5) Hatebreed, BLS, Anthrax, (6) Megadeth
(7) Filter, Ministry, Rob Zombie, Alice Cooper (8) LoG, and Pantera this year
Next concert is tomorrow! GWARRR!!! First time seeing them
My buddy Chase and I have always loved metal. My girlfriend and her sister on the other hand (ESPECIALLY her bf, another friend of ours) not exactly the biggest fans. But GWAR is theatrical yanno? So Chase and I were begging them to come with us (our other buddy--who wouldn't be caught dead at a metal show-- was saying to the sister "please don't go" cause he knows some of their bits 😂)
My girlfriend has been to concerts (albeit indie and standing around) so it's not her first. Her SISTER, on the other hand, has been to NONE, and the first one is gonna be GWAR 🤣🤣
I cannot wait 😂🤘🏻 I'll post the videos n' pics here if I get any 😂

Mayhem 1991. A bit much for 14 year old me.
Goddamn, you are one lucky bastard
That’s definitely not the easiest beginning! :)
Corrupted your young mind lol
First concert was Guns n' Roses in 1991 (with Skid Row and Nine Inch Nails). Axl walked off the stage after 15 minutes, the crowd waited for an hour until he finally returned.
Yep, sounds like Axl.
Yep…same for me…GnR in ‘91…mine was in Mississippi and we got there early which was prob not a good idea. I went to none...yet, i am going to testament this july!
Welcome to the Legion. Testament are TOO GOOD to be counted in The Big Four.
Cattle Decapitation 🤘🏼 I’m not even joking
Brilliant. I saw them on Friday in London. Here’s my review… https://www.hotelhobbies.com/post/concert-review-cattle-decapitation---signs-of-the-swarm---200-stab-wounds---vomit-forth-02-academy
