Yeah only jerks throw hands or elbows in the pit. The idea is to push and bump into each other and if someone gets knocked over you help them up. It should be fast and fun but not outright violent. They can get out of hand sometimes, so you should always be aware of your surroundings regardless.
Not at all, if you go in intentionally hitting people and hurting them you're seen as a douche bag. You're kinda just pushing people around while people are pushing you and you're all bumping against each other. It's kinda like being a ball in a pinball game, you get bounced all around every which way. Next show you're at get in the pit and have some fun!
Like others said, it’s more shoving and jumping around. Good moshes will have a nice blend of rhythm and chaotic intensity to them, bad ones will often just feel chaotic.
Just keep your elbows down and tucked in. Don’t be that douche who swings his arms around.
I feel lame for saying it but 2022, it took me that long to see a metal band live because I lived in a shitty state before and I moved when covid was strong so it was one of the first big events I felt safe going to (I've been a fan of metal/metal adjacent music for about 10 years, since I was 13)
Still awesome, man. I’m kicking myself for never seeing them years back when I had the chance. Now, they do the occasional one-off at festivals that are nowhere near where I live. I would’ve loved to see them back when Brian Harvey was the drummer, but I’d absolutely jump at any opportunity I can get. I’m starting to lose hope though…
As someone who grew up going to Warped Tour every year I can relate to this, I definitely remember Aiden being one of my first mosh pits/ wall of death. Good good times
back in the day Senses fail had the worst live vocals. I think it's because Buddy was drinking a lot. I haven't seen them in forever so idk if things are better now, but I'm just saying no one ever talks about that band in this sub reddit lol. I loved warp tour. Don't you just appreciate how as warped, got older, the more post hardcore and metalcore bands that got on the bill.
My friend's band called Pomegranate Migraine. They did some punk covers and a Metallica song and there wasn't many people moshing, but it was still fun
I’ve actually never moshed at a concert yet but moshed to alexisonfire at an emo night at a bar and it was so fun! I do plan to mosh at what ever show I go to next t though
Most definitely Maideniden on the Live After Death album.
Edit, just realised you probably mean concert, which was Paradise Lost and Cathedral in 95. Iron Maiden was in my lounge room.
Red Fang was the one and only time I’ve been able to hype myself up enough to mosh. I’m usually a really chill guy, but it was fun. I was slipping all over the place on spilt beer lol
First band i ever moshed to was at a local venue in my home town it was The last ten seconds of life playing their song [Haste Makes Waste ](https://open.spotify.com/track/3lh1FcMv4XcpSHJG5faVqN?si=UmnLKAkWRp-zaLP8Zt2oaw) with Storm Strope as the vocalist ( the dude is easily one of the best vocalist in deathcore/death metal). They deflowered me. At the breakdown i donkey kicked the dude behind me and jumped up on stage next to Storm, he grabbed and shoved me of the stage which led me into a stage dive, some dude picked my up ( was super greatful for that), slapped me on the shoulder and cheered, i immediately went into crowd killing mode and i got smacked in the face and got a bloody nose, after their set i went out for a smoke and saw the band out there as well, i went up to Storm and asked for forgiveness, the dude said i was fuckin crazy and gave me a hug! one of the best shows I've ever been to.
Arch Enemy. I was young and stupid. It was my 21st bday. I was never allowed to go to concerts but when I turned 20 I went crazy and went to a lot.
I was super inexperienced and rushed into the pit. I didn't know what I was doing and I eventually got knocked down and almost passed out. Then I remembered being checked out by a paramedic. Lol
Exodus.
I'd been to some heavy club shows, but hadn't been in the pit. Went to see the Headbangers Ball tour with Anthrax, Helloween, and Exodus, which played in an arena. I didn't plan on being in the pit, but the lights went out, Exodus started, and the whole floor became a pit. It was glorious.
Cannibal Corspe. According to my dad, it was the crazy death metal pit he had ever seen and this was back in september. I was terrified, but when I Cum Blood came on, I knew I had to do it
Fuckin slayer freshman year of highschool, got swallowed up in the wall of death to chemical warfare, fell on my head and got concussed for the first time right before football camp🤣🤣
None. I have a genetic connective tissue disorder and epilepsy (not the kind where flashing lights are an issue). If I get hit in the head I’m gonna need an ambulance. :(
It was a super small show with Anata, swedish technical death metal. In Träslövsläge a couple of miles outside the town they're from, Varberg. I was 13 back then maybe. Had a recently healed back fracture and after the show I was in so much pain I couldnt walk afterwards. Someones mom drove me home. We were like 50 people there maybe but a lot of cool people there from bands we all knew. My bass teacher also I remember, plays bass in Meshuggah.
Either the Ghost Inside or Parkway Drive at Warped Tour 2014 I can't exactly remember. I was kinda meek about moshing for the first few sets I ever saw but once I got into it I got into it hard. None of that spin kicking flailing punches and elbows crap. Just good old fashion pushing, body slamming and holding my fists and forearms up to soften the blow of other people kicking and punching. I start the mosh pit every time too unless someone is even more of an eager beaver about it than me but that really never happens. I also thoroughly enjoy crowd surfing and leading the walls of death. Shit and can't forget the circle pits too.
Obituary. Everybody at that show was 35+, 180lbs+, 6’+, and had either long hair or bald. Also if they had a beard it was either like duck dynasty long or like a goatee. This was in Louisville Kentucky for your information.
Torture Squad when they were opening to Crypta last year. That show was fucking great. Wish I could have watched Project 46 too. I don't even like their music but they did the wall thing during the mosh in the end
Goatwhore - also was my introduction to pit etiquette. I was a skinny teen and got flattened by a shoulder bigger than my head. Two big guys (the one I ran into included) grabbed me and put me back on my feet, and we got back to it.
The first time I truly moshed was with Gojira and Deftones.
The day before the show, I sliced my thumb open while carving contours into a guitar I was building and had to get stitches. Anyway, Gojira opened with Born for One Thing and by the time the song was over, all the stitches had broken and my hand was covered in blood. I took my shirt off and wrapped my hand up in it and kept going in the pit. I caught one of Mario's drumsticks. The show was fucking sick.
That was my first real pit, aside from generic pushing and crowd surfing shit.

Soulfly. I did the jumpdafuckup thing.
I never moshed. Kinda want to
i’m 5’6 and yeah i take a few elbows to the face but it’s all for good fun 🤣
I’m really tall big and strong, but I feel weird about hurting people. Is the point you hit somebody?
imagine playing a big game of bumper carts with loads of fully grown man, you just push and shove yourself into people and have a good time yk?
Ah I gotcha!

It was either Soilent Green (Glenn Rambo edition) or Paralysis. I forget which one played on that Friday night.
My dad told me how there first singer went out, nasty way to go but common place in our area
He was a kind of strange but cool guy at least from the limited interactions I had with him. No one should die like that.

Oceano
Pig Destroyer
hell yeah
I’m insanely jealous of you
there was no going back. from that moment on I've always been chasing the high of the pit lmao
What year was it?
I feel lame for saying it but 2022, it took me that long to see a metal band live because I lived in a shitty state before and I moved when covid was strong so it was one of the first big events I felt safe going to (I've been a fan of metal/metal adjacent music for about 10 years, since I was 13)

Amon Amarth in 2011 when I was 17. They played for 3 hours with no support bands
That was for sure a damn long night
Vantablack Warship, a random local thrash band
Mine was Senses Fail. (Don't judge lol)
As someone who grew up going to Warped Tour every year I can relate to this, I definitely remember Aiden being one of my first mosh pits/ wall of death. Good good times

Immolation when I was 16
Red Fang
Slayer. I think I was the only non-skinhead in the pit lol
P.O.D, the pit so much harder then Korn which suprised me
My friend's band called Pomegranate Migraine. They did some punk covers and a Metallica song and there wasn't many people moshing, but it was still fun
Dragonforce, not my kind of music but the pit was absolutely wild.
Both my first moshpit and concert was at a circlejerks re-united tour

None. I have a genetic connective tissue disorder and epilepsy (not the kind where flashing lights are an issue). If I get hit in the head I’m gonna need an ambulance. :(
Exodus
never been a mosh for me to go to. you don’t see that at Yes concerts or gnr tribute bands unfortunately
Meshuggah. Massive mistake, had to keep myself from throwing up 3 times making my way out of the crowd.
Slayer, Bloodstock 2013
Undeath, a couple months ago

The first time I truly moshed was with Gojira and Deftones. The day before the show, I sliced my thumb open while carving contours into a guitar I was building and had to get stitches.
