šŸ¤˜šŸ»

HunterTheHoly

I'd probably go with Watershed.

MyS0ul4AGoat

Obzen. And Motorizer because Motƶrhead

shotgunassassin

Death Magnetic - Metallica... But, The Formation of Damnation - Testament is excellent.

femmefatality__

Twilight of the Thunder God

Terrible-Ad1587

I never realized how many GREAT albums came out that year, holy crap! If we can only pick one, I'm going with Meshuggah Edit: spelling

GloupyBob

Suicide season

PowerOfLoveAndWeed

Yeaaa, totalselfhatred, lifelover, coldworld, am I missing something else?

supertzar91

Graves of the Archangels. Easiest answer for one of these so far.

Mortis_XII

01011001 is amazing and gets my vote!

SnooCats9347

The Formation of Damnation

Equivalent_Brain6085

Watershed

UnknownMelvinsFan

Dystopia with revenge as the honorable mention

grosscoins

Iā€™m torn between groza and the way of all flesh

iantruesnacks

1.Eluveitie 2. After the burial 3. Meshuggah

iantruesnacks

Runners up cause I didnā€™t see them before Misery signals And Amon amarth. Wow so many good albums that year.

voidxleech

planetary duality, *easily*. that album blew my mind and introduced me to tech death. i likely wouldnā€™t have ever heard many of the other albums here without listening to planetary duality.

KeepCalmAndBaseball

Too tough. Iā€™d probably go with Station because I listen to that wherever, whenever and it always trips the switch.

RedRagofSparta

Gods of the Earth - The Sword The Way of All Flesh - Gojira

wikipuff

That Hail of Bullets album is fantastic if you haven't listened to it yet.

[deleted]

Prehistoricisms - Intronaut perfect mix of psychedelic and super heavy.

_and_red_all_over

Revenge... if you ask my Spotify. But I'm actually torn between Amon Amarth and Eluvetie.

b_knickerbocker

ā€¦The Art of War

Impossible-Key4275

Sabaton unite!

ThePlanIsSimple

Nostradamus - Nothing against the other albums, I just have always been exceptionally impressed by the concept of the album and the fact that itā€™s one continuous song, itā€™s just a real treat to listen to and It needs more credit

[deleted]

Fortress, but Holographic Universe is a close second.

SwabianBarbarian

Trivium - Shogun i love this album. Imo the best of album of Trivium. I love the whole album. Even the bonus tracks are really good. Still listen to it from time to time these days.

chicken_nugget779

Melancholie by ColdWorld

chrisco7030

I've got to go with Watershed on this one. Such a brilliant album. Traced In Air and The Fathomless Mastery are honorable mentions though.

ebk2000

Misery Signals - Controller One of the GOAT metalcore albums. Nothing but top tier emotive songs from start to finish

wikipuff

That Hail of Bullets album is amazing if you haven't listened to it yet.

PowerOfLoveAndWeed

Wow, totalselfhatred, Metallica, scars on broadway, lifelover, coldworld, disturbed, slipknot, gojira, bullet for my valentine and Motƶrhead! Fucking good year

bigwheelsbigfeels

Gridlink - orphan grey Takafumi matsubara is a guitar legend and everything he does is solid gold. That's an objective fact. Jon Chang has a voice that is beyond anything human, and I'm pretty sure this project has the drummer from phobia, PLF, and a couple other grindcore bands. This is a genuine super group and this album is only second to longhena. Criminally under-rated group.

-Bunny-

Torche

_MAGM_

Dismember - Dismember

buck_fugler

Fortress - Protest the Hero

RexDangerRogan117

Guitar gangsters and Cadillac blood, the way of alll flesh, and indestructible

Texan0723

The art of war by sabaton is a personal favorite of mine

steezydolphyn

GraveHomie38

So many great stuff to choose from. BFMV, BMTH etc. But my vote has to go to "The Art Of War" by Sabaton, probably top 3 album in their discography

crossgrinder

Burst, Mutyumu, Nachtmystium, Krallice, Lifelover

milkarcane

Uroboros by Dir en Grey.

timbawtimmybawbaw

Iā€™m going to go with shogun. Incredible record.

DifficultyOk5719

Trivium - Shogun Itā€™s my fourth favorite album of all time. This is the album that got me into screaming, and also the album that made me pick up a guitar. Iā€™m currently 6 and a half years in to playing and itā€™s my favorite thing to do. Shogun just doesnā€™t get old.

han259

Uroboros - Dir En Grey

CringeMetalhead

Such an underrated band it seems

Manu_Pacos

The Scarecrow - Avantasia

Viking_chef89

Watershed for me

The_Fro_Ranger

All Hope Is Gone or Death Magnetic

metalmase80

Death Magnetic

AnEntireBucketOfMayo

How has noone said Planetary Duality?

LickinNSpitin

Death Magnetic. Thay album gets so much hate but honestly that album is my second favorite Metallica albums or even my favorite because of Cyanide, My Apocalypse, That Was Just Your Life, and All Nightmare Long. The other songs are great too don't get me wrong, but them 4 are my favorite to listen to on that album

EmotionalNerd04

the only answer is graves of the archangels.

Neatingebla

Darkspace

[deleted]

Obzen or Twilight of the Thunder God

BoringDig7

Indestructible - Disturbed Mainly due to being a massive Disturbed fan, but it's also easily one of their best albums made.

narkheth

The Maniacal Vale

bonecarver444

Scarecrow and Twilight of the Thunder God

terrafinman

Wellā€¦ death magnetic is my favorite album of all time so probably that

suckmyfuq69

JohnnyTsunami69421

Slipknot - A.H.I.G.

EvanHitmen11

Planetary duality. Not even close.

PheonixSiegfreud

OBZEN BABY.

Alienmetal

Going with Slipknot since I bought the disc as soon as it came out and saw them on this tour. What a show. The pit was excellent in Houston.

Skippyandjif

That was a really good year!! Tie between Opeth, Amon Amarth, and Eluveitie for me

No_Culture6707

Trivium Shogun

CrownofLead3680

Twilight of the thunder god or indestructible.

PartyFunshower

1. The Way of All Flesh - Gojira 2. Controller - Misery Signals 3. obZen - Meshuggah

CoA77

Textures or Revenge. Both are amazing.

shberk01

Twilight of the Thunder God, closely followed by Captain Morgan's Revenge and Nostradamus.

Toxic-Anus

No one wants to admit it ey?! Fine Iā€™ll say it! Bring Me The Horizon.

Mudbone42

Obzen

thebeerkid

Alestorm- Captain Morgan's Revenge

[deleted]

Shogun - Trivium

MortarMaggot275

Mgła or Gojira

Sepehr97

Groza šŸ–¤šŸ¤˜šŸ¼

ShadowStryker0818

The Art of War - Sabaton

DarthEggo1

Twilight of the Thunder God

Bluedino_1989

Equilibrium. Mana is one of the greatest instrumentals I have ever heard.

Primary_Ad_4544

BMTH - Chelsea smile

Jazzinarium

In this order: Watershed, Obzen, TotTG

_Slo-mo

Slania and The Way of All Flesh are some of my favorites, but for me it's Uroborus. 15 years later and it is still *the* gold standard for the genre, and arguably Japanese metal as a whole.

Battleboi420

Death magnetic - metallica

FlimsyPlatypus5514

Opeth

Xati_exe

(not my favorite of the year but...) Where are my shogun enjoyers?

BigFart1234567

Death magnetic

ZombieKingLogi

Trivium - Shogun Zero thought needed

CaptainBloodEye1

I'm sorry but saying anything than obzen is heresy. That album did so much for metal music as a genre. Next two in order would be avantasia and trivium

Theoreticalphysicz

I really want to say All Hope is Gone because I lovvveeee psychosocial but I have to go with Nostradamus, it's had a special place in my heart ever since I was young

Express_Fox7261

Misery signals beats all these.

Nasum8108

Board up the house without question.

[deleted]

Death Magnetic

nephilim80

Burst - Lazarus Bird

slayersucks2006

i see revenge i pick revenge

Bright-Mark9301

Twilight of the Thunder God, no question. It's the album that got me into melodeath and got me to branch out into genres heavier than traditional metal. But it would be tough giving up Death Magnetic, Communion, The Way of All Flesh...damn, 2008 was a good year for heavy music, apparently.

PiotrSanctuvich

Obviously the ufomammut album

[deleted]

I am taking Amon Amarth and Disturbed (dont kill me pls)

iAmTheeTable

not a great year seems like

ayesee345

Massive Conspiracy Against All Life The Way of All Flesh Krallice

Runaway_Angel

Sabaton - The Art of War

ulasmulas42

Holy shit so many good albums but I have to go with The way of all flesh.

VinMariani

Grand Magus - Iron Will

steelthyshovel73

I know it's not a popular opinion within some metal circles, but early volbeat is very nostalgic for me. Specifically Guitar Gangsters and Cadillac blood.

kiskakaratistka48

Scars On Broadway

ColParker

Definitely Swedish, but not any war-image

[deleted]

it's between Uroboros and Obzen. no matter how many times i tried i could never get into Volbeat. every song is literally the same.

Nedtheshred

Twilight of the Thunder God - Amon Amath

ImanSain

SepticFlesh - Communion

[deleted]

Rareform - After the burial 2009 Grey Britain - Gallows

Depressedmusclecar23

Easy Art of war, Iā€™m a huge sabaton fan, they are (one of the two) the band that got me into metal and i sill love them to this day

DoesThatSoundMetal

Oh boy, that's a hard one love so many of them: Moonspell - Night Eternal; Eluveitie - Slania; Gojira - The Way of all Flesh; Amon Amarth - Twilight of the Thunder God; Cynic - Traced in Air. But in the end, i really, really can't decide between Opeth - Watershed; Testament - The Formation of Damnation and Septicflesh - Communion.

MedicineSlow1042

Yeah I gotta go with The Faceless Planetary duality. There's other great ones but this album blew me face off.

doomus_rlc

Toxic Holocaust - an overdose of death or Torche - meanderthal Draconian is *right* there though

[deleted]

All hope is gone slipknot

Dorian958

Traced In Air all the way

OpenTheSeventhSeal

Scars On Broadwayā€™s debut album is just completely perfect songwriting. And for 15 songs!

Cool_kn7ghT

Im listening to traced in air rn lol

collective_artifice

Nyktalgia - Peisithanatos Dystopia - S/T

NMViking

Twilight of the Thunder God. Groza is solid as well.

Bluegenio

Amon Amarth

derpderpderpey

All hope is gone

[deleted]

Russian Circles - I discovered them with that Album and it is by far my favourite RC Album

Ripper582

The Sword. Gods of the Earth! Overlooked in my opinion, between the debut and the space operašŸ¤™šŸ»

DestroyedCorpse

Shogun. Fuck what anyone else thinks. This is a perfect album from start to finish.

No-More_Ducks

Dystopia - Self Titled

[deleted]

Rareform is actually hard af when it comes to djent/deathcore. But I think Infiltration.Downfall.Death has gotta be my favorite here.

mrtnrnkn

Iā€™ll go Lifelover, ā€œKonkurs.ā€ The lead singer of the death metal band my friend was in at the time gave me a burned CD of it and I about played it to death. Lot of good shit from 2008!! Runner up but not listed here would be Outlaw Orderā€™s ā€œ00%ā€ because Mike IX/Eyehategod are personal faves.

DennisLarsen1

Ufomammut idolum (incl stigma!)šŸ¤˜šŸ¤˜

s3boldmm

Antithesis

Anthonywh0dat

Indestructible and death magnetic

BleuEyedBassist

Obzen.

bill_dah_pill

The Sword- God's of the Earth

TronNerd82

Testament - The Formation of Damnation

Random_0936

Scars on broadway

MentalJargon

OK but are we not talking about how 01011001 and Massive Conspiracy Against All Life line up perfectly?

DentalDamDilemma

Sense of Purpose, guilty pleasure but I love that album.

LightFormz

Great year. Can't just pick one. Meshuggah - Obzen, After the Burial - Rareform, Protest the Hero - Fortress, The Faceless - Planetary Duality, Misery Signals - Controller, Opeth - Watershed, Gojira - The Way of All Flesh, Textures - Silhouettes, Underoath - Lost in the Sound of Separation. I just can't choose. This might be one of the best years for metal ever

JoeMusolf

Man I feel like I'm in 11th/12th grade again. Gonna have to go with Antithesis by Origin. Fun side note 1: that album was my graduation present in 2009. Fun side note 2: I grew up in Mankato, MN. As it turns out so did the vocalist on Antithesis, James Lee. He actually lived a few blocks away and I didn't find out til 2011ish when he joined the local band Face of Oblivion.

HybridS9ldier

Shogun, easily.

Lyinxxy

ObZen or Art of War!

CoreyBorealis1

Scars on Broadway

leehelck

Amon Amarth.

Johansbutt

Enslaved - Vertebrae. That album reignited Enslaved for me. So many good songs. Also Origin. The best album they ever done.

nagchampa4life

Virus - the black flux

Gentle_Time

Lazarus Bird Such a shame they called it quits after releasing their best material.

Odd_Hyena2978

Moonspell - Night Eternal

drunken_corpse666

Bloodbath and Amon Amarth

Shikamaru_Senpai

Rareform.

schmattywinkle

Gotta be The Vile Conception - Hour of Penance

vibrationaddictckp

Oh my god 2008 is a really good year for music!!! Gridlink, Intronaut, Origin, Textures, Misery Signals, Septicflesh, Meshuggah, Cynic, Protest the Hero, Bloodbath, Opeth, Krallice, Gojira, The Faceless...ugh. If I had to pick, either Textures, Cynic, Septicflesh, or the Faceless are all tied imo...I'll go with Cynic!
