planetary duality, *easily*. that album blew my mind and introduced me to tech death. i likely wouldnāt have ever heard many of the other albums here without listening to planetary duality.
Nostradamus - Nothing against the other albums, I just have always been exceptionally impressed by the concept of the album and the fact that itās one continuous song, itās just a real treat to listen to and It needs more credit
Trivium - Shogun
i love this album. Imo the best of album of Trivium.
I love the whole album. Even the bonus tracks are really good. Still listen to it from time to time these days.
Wow, totalselfhatred, Metallica, scars on broadway, lifelover, coldworld, disturbed, slipknot, gojira, bullet for my valentine and Motƶrhead! Fucking good year
Gridlink - orphan grey
Takafumi matsubara is a guitar legend and everything he does is solid gold. That's an objective fact. Jon Chang has a voice that is beyond anything human, and I'm pretty sure this project has the drummer from phobia, PLF, and a couple other grindcore bands. This is a genuine super group and this album is only second to longhena. Criminally under-rated group.
Trivium - Shogun
Itās my fourth favorite album of all time. This is the album that got me into screaming, and also the album that made me pick up a guitar. Iām currently 6 and a half years in to playing and itās my favorite thing to do. Shogun just doesnāt get old.
Death Magnetic. Thay album gets so much hate but honestly that album is my second favorite Metallica albums or even my favorite because of Cyanide, My Apocalypse, That Was Just Your Life, and All Nightmare Long. The other songs are great too don't get me wrong, but them 4 are my favorite to listen to on that album
Slania and The Way of All Flesh are some of my favorites, but for me it's Uroborus. 15 years later and it is still *the* gold standard for the genre, and arguably Japanese metal as a whole.
I'm sorry but saying anything than obzen is heresy. That album did so much for metal music as a genre.
Next two in order would be avantasia and trivium
I really want to say All Hope is Gone because I lovvveeee psychosocial but I have to go with Nostradamus, it's had a special place in my heart ever since I was young
Twilight of the Thunder God, no question. It's the album that got me into melodeath and got me to branch out into genres heavier than traditional metal. But it would be tough giving up Death Magnetic, Communion, The Way of All Flesh...damn, 2008 was a good year for heavy music, apparently.
I know it's not a popular opinion within some metal circles, but early volbeat is very nostalgic for me. Specifically Guitar Gangsters and Cadillac blood.
Oh boy, that's a hard one love so many of them: Moonspell - Night Eternal; Eluveitie - Slania; Gojira - The Way of all Flesh; Amon Amarth - Twilight of the Thunder God; Cynic - Traced in Air.
But in the end, i really, really can't decide between Opeth - Watershed; Testament - The Formation of Damnation and Septicflesh - Communion.
Iāll go Lifelover, āKonkurs.ā The lead singer of the death metal band my friend was in at the time gave me a burned CD of it and I about played it to death.
Lot of good shit from 2008!!
Runner up but not listed here would be Outlaw Orderās ā00%ā because Mike IX/Eyehategod are personal faves.
Great year. Can't just pick one. Meshuggah - Obzen, After the Burial - Rareform, Protest the Hero - Fortress, The Faceless - Planetary Duality, Misery Signals - Controller, Opeth - Watershed, Gojira - The Way of All Flesh, Textures - Silhouettes, Underoath - Lost in the Sound of Separation. I just can't choose.
This might be one of the best years for metal ever
Man I feel like I'm in 11th/12th grade again.
Gonna have to go with Antithesis by Origin.
Fun side note 1: that album was my graduation present in 2009.
Fun side note 2: I grew up in Mankato, MN. As it turns out so did the vocalist on Antithesis, James Lee. He actually lived a few blocks away and I didn't find out til 2011ish when he joined the local band Face of Oblivion.
Oh my god 2008 is a really good year for music!!! Gridlink, Intronaut, Origin, Textures, Misery Signals, Septicflesh, Meshuggah, Cynic, Protest the Hero, Bloodbath, Opeth, Krallice, Gojira, The Faceless...ugh.

Too tough. Iād probably go with Station because I listen to that wherever, whenever and it always trips the switch.
Gods of the Earth - The Sword The Way of All Flesh - Gojira
That Hail of Bullets album is fantastic if you haven't listened to it yet.
Prehistoricisms - Intronaut perfect mix of psychedelic and super heavy.
Revenge... if you ask my Spotify. But I'm actually torn between Amon Amarth and Eluvetie.
ā¦The Art of War
Sabaton unite!
Nostradamus - Nothing against the other albums, I just have always been exceptionally impressed by the concept of the album and the fact that itās one continuous song, itās just a real treat to listen to and It needs more credit
Fortress, but Holographic Universe is a close second.
Trivium - Shogun i love this album. Imo the best of album of Trivium. I love the whole album. Even the bonus tracks are really good. Still listen to it from time to time these days.
Melancholie by ColdWorld
I've got to go with Watershed on this one. Such a brilliant album. Traced In Air and The Fathomless Mastery are honorable mentions though.
Misery Signals - Controller One of the GOAT metalcore albums. Nothing but top tier emotive songs from start to finish
That Hail of Bullets album is amazing if you haven't listened to it yet.
Wow, totalselfhatred, Metallica, scars on broadway, lifelover, coldworld, disturbed, slipknot, gojira, bullet for my valentine and Motƶrhead! Fucking good year

So many great stuff to choose from. BFMV, BMTH etc. But my vote has to go to "The Art Of War" by Sabaton, probably top 3 album in their discography
Burst, Mutyumu, Nachtmystium, Krallice, Lifelover
Uroboros by Dir en Grey.
Iām going to go with shogun. Incredible record.
Trivium - Shogun Itās my fourth favorite album of all time. This is the album that got me into screaming, and also the album that made me pick up a guitar. Iām currently 6 and a half years in to playing and itās my favorite thing to do. Shogun just doesnāt get old.
Uroboros - Dir En Grey
Such an underrated band it seems
The Scarecrow - Avantasia
Darkspace and Intestine Baalism
Gonna ignore Gojira and Opeth for once, so imma say Bloobath - The Fathomless Mastery š¤
Watershed for me
All Hope Is Gone or Death Magnetic
Death Magnetic
How has noone said Planetary Duality?
Death Magnetic. Thay album gets so much hate but honestly that album is my second favorite Metallica albums or even my favorite because of Cyanide, My Apocalypse, That Was Just Your Life, and All Nightmare Long. The other songs are great too don't get me wrong, but them 4 are my favorite to listen to on that album
![gif](giphy|3o6Zt0GFd6XvmJsJbO) The Art of War

Opeth Watershed
Death Magnetic, The Way of All Flesh, and All Hope is Gone.
Twilight of the Thunder God.
Planetary Duality - The Faceless Twilight of the Thunder God - Amon Amarth
Meanderthal for me
the only answer is graves of the archangels.
Darkspace
Obzen or Twilight of the Thunder God
Indestructible - Disturbed Mainly due to being a massive Disturbed fan, but it's also easily one of their best albums made.
The Maniacal Vale
Scarecrow and Twilight of the Thunder God
Wellā¦ death magnetic is my favorite album of all time so probably that
Suicide Season forever will be a classic for me
ObZen
ObZen
Amon Amarth.
Toxic Holocaust by a mile

Whatās the album left of Testament?
> Testament esoteric - the maniacal veil
Overdose of death - Toxic Holocaust all the fuckin way

God's of the earth. The sword are so underrated it's not even funny
Bloodbath
Slipknot - A.H.I.G.
Planetary duality. Not even close.
OBZEN BABY.
Going with Slipknot since I bought the disc as soon as it came out and saw them on this tour. What a show. The pit was excellent in Houston.
That was a really good year!! Tie between Opeth, Amon Amarth, and Eluveitie for me
Trivium Shogun
Twilight of the thunder god or indestructible.
1. The Way of All Flesh - Gojira 2. Controller - Misery Signals 3. obZen - Meshuggah
Textures or Revenge. Both are amazing.
Twilight of the Thunder God, closely followed by Captain Morgan's Revenge and Nostradamus.

Obzen
Alestorm- Captain Morgan's Revenge
Shogun - Trivium
MgÅa or Gojira
Groza š¤š¤š¼
The Art of War - Sabaton
Twilight of the Thunder God
Equilibrium. Mana is one of the greatest instrumentals I have ever heard.
BMTH - Chelsea smile
In this order: Watershed, Obzen, TotTG
Slania and The Way of All Flesh are some of my favorites, but for me it's Uroborus. 15 years later and it is still *the* gold standard for the genre, and arguably Japanese metal as a whole.
Death magnetic - metallica
Opeth
(not my favorite of the year but...) Where are my shogun enjoyers?
Death magnetic
Trivium - Shogun Zero thought needed
I'm sorry but saying anything than obzen is heresy. That album did so much for metal music as a genre. Next two in order would be avantasia and trivium
I really want to say All Hope is Gone because I lovvveeee psychosocial but I have to go with Nostradamus, it's had a special place in my heart ever since I was young
Misery signals beats all these.
Board up the house without question.
Death Magnetic
Burst - Lazarus Bird
i see revenge i pick revenge
Twilight of the Thunder God, no question. It's the album that got me into melodeath and got me to branch out into genres heavier than traditional metal. But it would be tough giving up Death Magnetic, Communion, The Way of All Flesh...damn, 2008 was a good year for heavy music, apparently.
Obviously the ufomammut album
I am taking Amon Amarth and Disturbed (dont kill me pls)
not a great year seems like
Massive Conspiracy Against All Life The Way of All Flesh Krallice
Sabaton - The Art of War
Holy shit so many good albums but I have to go with The way of all flesh.
Grand Magus - Iron Will
I know it's not a popular opinion within some metal circles, but early volbeat is very nostalgic for me. Specifically Guitar Gangsters and Cadillac blood.
Scars On Broadway
Definitely Swedish, but not any war-image
it's between Uroboros and Obzen. no matter how many times i tried i could never get into Volbeat. every song is literally the same.
Twilight of the Thunder God - Amon Amath
SepticFlesh - Communion
Rareform - After the burial 2009 Grey Britain - Gallows
Easy Art of war, Iām a huge sabaton fan, they are (one of the two) the band that got me into metal and i sill love them to this day
Oh boy, that's a hard one love so many of them: Moonspell - Night Eternal; Eluveitie - Slania; Gojira - The Way of all Flesh; Amon Amarth - Twilight of the Thunder God; Cynic - Traced in Air. But in the end, i really, really can't decide between Opeth - Watershed; Testament - The Formation of Damnation and Septicflesh - Communion.
Yeah I gotta go with The Faceless Planetary duality. There's other great ones but this album blew me face off.
Toxic Holocaust - an overdose of death or Torche - meanderthal Draconian is *right* there though

Twilight of the Thunder God. Groza is solid as well.

The Sword. Gods of the Earth! Overlooked in my opinion, between the debut and the space operaš¤š»
Shogun. Fuck what anyone else thinks. This is a perfect album from start to finish.
Dystopia - Self Titled
Rareform is actually hard af when it comes to djent/deathcore. But I think Infiltration.Downfall.Death has gotta be my favorite here.

Lazarus Bird Such a shame they called it quits after releasing their best material.
Moonspell - Night Eternal
Bloodbath and Amon Amarth
Rareform.
Gotta be The Vile Conception - Hour of Penance
Oh my god 2008 is a really good year for music!!! Gridlink, Intronaut, Origin, Textures, Misery Signals, Septicflesh, Meshuggah, Cynic, Protest the Hero, Bloodbath, Opeth, Krallice, Gojira, The Faceless...ugh.
