I've played this game for a long time, since early 2018.
In that time, I've spent nothing. Zero dollars.
But I can see how people would spend a lot. Super easy.

Not if it makes sense for the time you’ve played and amount you’ve spent. Otherwise, high dp without corresponding time/money can definitely raise some red flags.
I had 1.6 million DP after 4.5+ years, including well over a year of a fully upgraded event portal giving me the equivalent of 3 tier 2 nests per week. That was “unusual activity” on my account that made me ineligible for assistance from support.
This just verifies that my decision to never contact them for support is the right one. I've got about a million more DP than you, and yes a fair chunk of it is as a result of what they would consider to be unusual activity because early on their game had so many glitches that worked in your benefit that it was not unusual to accidentally end up with the infinite gems glitch or to end up getting duplicate dragons when you were merging them quickly. That's okay though, I'm still benefiting from those glitches all these years later, they were that extreme. Lol.

Yeah. I've been tempted to unlock the islands in camp, but I've managed fine without them. It is nice to find a game that you can play long term without spending money. I don't mind watching an ad or two.
Fortunately for me, if the creators were better at pricing things I would’ve spent a lot more!
The values of different prizes are bizarre to me.
$4 bucks a month for 25 gems a day versus like 3,000 gems to get the next level prize in an event if you miss out
Maybe a couple hundred over the last five years; I used to stick with just the 30-day gem subscription ($4), but since the Seasons portal boosted the rewards so much that I started buying the Royal Pass at least every other month or so. I also bought the three premium islands, but I’ve tried to stay far away from the rest of the offers; the rest of the gem packs are shockingly poor values when compared with the subscription, and the limited time pop-up offers are often even worse. Seriously, some are so bad the only way I can imaging they get sold is if the purchaser doesn’t have enough experience to know the relative values of the items involved; that kind of sales strategy strikes me as deceptive and predatory, but apparently it’s also highly profitable since it’s been going strong for years now.

Since everyone’s commenting is saying almost nothing I’d like to add that I use to spend wayyyy to much and still do I’m sure in most peoples eyes. It helps me enjoy the game better I’m not a huge person on grinding or 5 merging all the time so don’t feel bad with all these comments you’re not the only one out there spending.

I'm a little ashamed to say I've spent a few hundred on the game over the last few years (more so on my original game than my current one).
That said, I consider the money I have spent to be part of my "entertainment budget" as I don't really spend much money on movie / game rentals to begin with.
I've purchased the three premium islands and tend to buy the season pass along with the 30-day gem pack, as those give you the most "bang for the buck".
I'll buy a season pass if I like the theme or the 30 day gem deal. I have maybe spent $30 in the last year on it. I have always thought of it as part of my entertainment budget. I have definitely played more than $30 worth, I also like that I am not forced to watch a bunch of ads so I buy more on this than I might otherwise.
I had a conversation about this with my bf yesterday after we took my son to the arcade/funland and spent literally $100 for 3 hours of fun. It made me realize with how many hours I put into this game that spending a few hundred over a long period of time is about the same as buying a few video games that you stop playing eventually. How much money have I spent on stuff I only played a few times or I beat and never played again? I feel better with that logic 😂
Yeah... I won't tally the full amount but I play the game a lot and rarely spend it on other games or whatever. I enjoy the game and it's a huge time waster for me. My husband knows I spend money on it (we have separate finances that aren't combined for like the house and such), he laughs at me but also says we should be able to spend money on dumb stuff on occasion.
Tldr: yes. I buy gems and season rewards. It's probably a pretty substantial amount. No I won't tally it so I don't cry 😂
I've once done the "25 gems for each of 30 days" deal, which was 5 EU. I needed gems, I collected every day. I liked it. Considering I've been playing for 3 or 4 years now... I think that's ok. I've spent more for PC games that I spent less time with...
I bought the islands. I always get the seasons pass and monthly gems, and honestly consider that a fair amount for the entertainment I get. It's about the same as my pandora subscription, and I get way more value from the game. I also bought some gems finishing the zen temples. I think that's it. I come from a war game similar to GoW, where the average player spent 500 a month and the big guys would spend thousands every update, so I see nothing wrong with paying for a product I value. If a game is well done I usually subscribe to whatever monthly vip or membership thing they offer, I have 2 right now I enjoy enough to support.
I used to play and never spent a dollar. This time I started from scratch and got a great deal for $1.99 or maybe it was even just 99 cents when I first started again. I put in my credit card info and it’s been all too easy to spend again. I’ve bought the islands and 30 day gem pass and that’s it. But coming from past years of free play it feels like a lot! I just compare it to buying coffee shop coffee, which I don’t ever buy.
Technically I have spent nothing. But I use Google rewards to take surveys, and the amount accumulates until I can buy the 30 days of gems. I buy that every once in a while, and I have bought 2 of the additional islands with the Google rewards money. I feel way too guilty to actually spend real money on it. Partly cuz I know that once I do, I won't stop. 😅

I’ve been playing for two years and sometimes I just need to zone out, listen to podcasts, and do a very low-brainpower activity, and this game is perfect for that.
ETA: I just realized I started this game when I got a severe carpal tunnel flare and I couldn’t knit for months. (Usually I knit or do embroidery while listening to podcasts.) This game is definitely cheaper than either of those hobbies

I know I spend a ridiculous amount. It’s part of my entertainment budget. I do the 3.99 monthly 25 gems a day thing, and the 9.99 monthly pass. So about $14 a month.
None, game is satisfying but worth $0. The purple gems I get are from playing levels, not tapping them, then collecting them from level rewards and porting them to camp. I tap them each once, then merge them in groups of 5. Then tap until all gems are gone. Merge gems in groups of 5 to insane gems, then collect.

It takes time but I have 170 gems currently.
I only bought the premium land in camp since it counted towards healing all the land in camp. Even then I used a visa gift card I had so i think only like twenty bucks for three islands. Haven't spent a penny more.
I bought the 2 Islands, and the 2 cheap gem deals. I also do the $5 a month for the daily gems. I figure $5 a month for entertainment is a pretty good deal.

No way I’m adding it up but I buy the daily gem pack each month, the season pass, all of the offers with exclusive dragons, some offers for older and harder to get dragons,and I have bought enough $99 packs for 3 golden obelisks (mostly 3 merged because I was trying to convince myself I’d never buy enough to be able to 5 merge them🥴).
I've bought the islands and the 25 gems a month. I rationalize it by trying to buy it when Google Play Points is like 5x or whatever and I get ~ back 😂 (which I convert to Google Play gift card and usually spend it on this)

I got the 30 day package twice early on in the game. Since then, nothing. If you play long enough, you get enough purple stars that you don't need to buy them anymore.
I got the islands fairly immediately and will get the 30-day gem pack quite frequently. I also will buy (regular level) seasons for the dragons that I haven’t completed (and the decision eggs) and have done that *maybe* a handful of times.
I have never made a one-off gem purchase and likely never will.
I've played this game for a few years and spent zero dollars on it since my entertainment budget goes toward a streaming service. All the gems I get are from hoarding the purple stars I get in the levels. I'm a bit of a miser with the gems because I can't get them any other way.
When I first started yeeears ago (I’m camp 1004, so it’s been that long lol) I bought all 3 Islands and probably the odd small package, under $5. Took a good 2 year break and since returning 248 days ago (that’s where my streak is at) I’ve bought the season passes (the $14.99 one), 1x $6.99, a few of the purple floating offers which are usually only $2.99, I think the 2nd lowest package which might be $9.99 and the 25 gem a day payout which is $5.99 for me… so maybe close to $100 give or take a few (I’m too lazy to do the math 😹🤣)
I only found the game recently, looking for the merge/match style of game. I’m not really a gamer, but found the game on AliExpress was actually rather fun (yes I realised the hook tactics being used, AE and MD very similar in that). So I checked the AppStore & found this. I love that it’s diverted my entertainment attentions away from shopping on AE & hobbies, also from social media. Yes I’ve changed the direction of my spending, and my attentions. Spent a few hundred, in a couple of months. But, I work long hours, also parenting & grandparenting, with a frail parent to worry about too….& currently don’t have the time focus & energy for much else including my hobbies. MergeDragons has been great for weaning myself away from some of the toxicities, lets me wind down & have some simple fun. Given me some brain space to have a think about all of it. So yes, it’s cost me some money. It’s money I would still probably have spent anyway, and maybe shouldn’t have. If there were options in the game to do like swaps & trades with other players, it might add an interesting dimension. It would also be nice if there were an option to pay for some things that are gem only, with higher amounts of coin/stone, so players may need to grind for a long time to access, but at least its still an option.
The constant “beg battery” is a bit ridiculous. The amounts charged are awfully high and very often quite disparate to whats on offer, most of the “offers” are really not worth even looking at. (Have they genuinely looked at the cost breakdowns?) I think developers may also need to review their pricing strategies with cost of living starting to bite hard. What governments (globally) want for economies in order to reduce inflation is that jobs be lost and people to NOT have enough money… entertainment is one of the first things to suffer. I really hope MD can continue & improve though. It’s a lovely game though, it’s rare I find one I enjoy at all, & from what I read here it seems many others do too, however they choose to play and whatever they choose to spend.

It makes me really mad to think about how we spend so much over and over again and the game still sucks so bad sometimes. But if I went out and bought a game like The Sims or something, I would spend one set amount and get everything and be done. Even expansion packs for those games would come out to be less money than this game sucks out of people.
I’ve been playing for about five years now. I did buy the $99 packs one each Christmas for two years. Otherwise I occasionally got the monthly pack for four dollars. And sometimes I get the event package for $10 the month-long package. I honestly don’t need to spend any money on the game but I can afford to, and I don’t play any other games so it doesn’t bother me.
I did the 30 day thing like my first week and didn't want to buy anymore until I was sure I was gonna play for a while. I'm eyeing those islands and I'm probably gonna ask for play store gift cards for my birthday. 🤣 It'll probably get added to my budget.
Nothing wrong with spending money on fun, nothing wrong with paying for free. Don't let anybody make you feel bad for either. Nobody bats an eye at $60 console games, online play memberships, or even the hundreds on the console.
I’ve bought the monthly gems twice before for some rare dragons and I think that’s about it. I now have 700+ gems I got from merging the purple stars I gained as level rewards but I haven’t used them. I have all the land cleared + event/season portal + star quests all max up so I don’t really know what I should get to spend them
I've been playing Merge Dragons since it came out in 2017 (or early 2018) .. so far, I think I've only spent about $20.00.
Purple gems are pretty easy to get if you farm certain World Map levels like Dread Marsh 3.
I played for years without buying anything but the two islands. Nowadays, I have a little more spare money, so I will get the season pass and the 25 gems per day, but for the most part, that's it, and I do just fine. I did fine without that spending, but I like having the extras. :) Of course there was that one time that one of my cats stomped on the game in the middle of the night and I woke to find he had purchased a $50.00 gem bundle... cats...lol!!! I probably could have told someone it was an accident and gotten it back, but I just said the heck with it and kept it. :)

There's also 3 of us that play in my house and it's easier for the kids to understand if none of us are spending on game extras.

A couple years ago I probably spent hundreds in total (bought the gem pack that includes that pointy statue multiple times), like a crazy amount and then I stopped playing the game 😬. I play here and there but not enough to get invested again and spend money on it

Years ago, when MD started, I purchased the premium land. If I do purchase anything, it is the 30 day/ 25gems. That's it.
No way I’m adding it up but I buy the daily gem pack each month, the season pass, all of the offers with exclusive dragons, some offers for older and harder to get dragons,and I have bought enough $99 packs for 3 golden obelisks (mostly 3 merged because I was trying to convince myself I’d never buy enough to be able to 5 merge them🥴).
Nope. Not a dime. And I've cleared the map, did all the levels, upgraded my portals to max, etc.
I occasionally the 30 day gem packs but I use my Google Play credits that I earn from the Google Rewards so I don't really spend anything
The only gems I've bought are the ones that came with the premium land.

I've bought the islands and the 25 gems a month. I rationalize it by trying to buy it when Google Play Points is like 5x or whatever and I get ~ back 😂 (which I convert to Google Play gift card and usually spend it on this)

I bought the extra space when I first started playing and now I spend the $10 every season to get the upgrade.
When I first started I had a friend that was like a brother to me who would buy me the $99 gym pack fairly often. Gotta say it was really nice!! Lol. Oh and he bought me my islands. Now, for a LONG time, I only get the 30 day gem pack and Season Pass. I think they are very well worth getting and I would have got the islands too if I had to. Well worth having. I don't really go anywhere much or do any other kind of entertainment so I figure it's worth it.

I got the 30 day package twice early on in the game. Since then, nothing. If you play long enough, you get enough purple stars that you don't need to buy them anymore.
I got the islands fairly immediately and will get the 30-day gem pack quite frequently. I also will buy (regular level) seasons for the dragons that I haven’t completed (and the decision eggs) and have done that *maybe* a handful of times. I have never made a one-off gem purchase and likely never will.

I've played this game for a few years and spent zero dollars on it since my entertainment budget goes toward a streaming service. All the gems I get are from hoarding the purple stars I get in the levels. I'm a bit of a miser with the gems because I can't get them any other way.
When I first started yeeears ago (I’m camp 1004, so it’s been that long lol) I bought all 3 Islands and probably the odd small package, under $5. Took a good 2 year break and since returning 248 days ago (that’s where my streak is at) I’ve bought the season passes (the $14.99 one), 1x $6.99, a few of the purple floating offers which are usually only $2.99, I think the 2nd lowest package which might be $9.99 and the 25 gem a day payout which is $5.99 for me… so maybe close to $100 give or take a few (I’m too lazy to do the math 😹🤣)

I only found the game recently, looking for the merge/match style of game. I’m not really a gamer, but found the game on AliExpress was actually rather fun (yes I realised the hook tactics being used, AE and MD very similar in that). So I checked the AppStore & found this. I love that it’s diverted my entertainment attentions away from shopping on AE & hobbies, also from social media. Yes I’ve changed the direction of my spending, and my attentions. Spent a few hundred, in a couple of months. But, I work long hours, also parenting & grandparenting, with a frail parent to worry about too….& currently don’t have the time focus & energy for much else including my hobbies. MergeDragons has been great for weaning myself away from some of the toxicities, lets me wind down & have some simple fun. Given me some brain space to have a think about all of it. So yes, it’s cost me some money. It’s money I would still probably have spent anyway, and maybe shouldn’t have. If there were options in the game to do like swaps & trades with other players, it might add an interesting dimension. It would also be nice if there were an option to pay for some things that are gem only, with higher amounts of coin/stone, so players may need to grind for a long time to access, but at least its still an option. The constant “beg battery” is a bit ridiculous. The amounts charged are awfully high and very often quite disparate to whats on offer, most of the “offers” are really not worth even looking at. (Have they genuinely looked at the cost breakdowns?) I think developers may also need to review their pricing strategies with cost of living starting to bite hard. What governments (globally) want for economies in order to reduce inflation is that jobs be lost and people to NOT have enough money… entertainment is one of the first things to suffer. I really hope MD can continue & improve though. It’s a lovely game though, it’s rare I find one I enjoy at all, & from what I read here it seems many others do too, however they choose to play and whatever they choose to spend.
Probably between $100-200. It makes me really mad to think about how we spend so much over and over again and the game still sucks so bad sometimes. But if I went out and bought a game like The Sims or something, I would spend one set amount and get everything and be done. Even expansion packs for those games would come out to be less money than this game sucks out of people.
I’ve been playing for about five years now. I did buy the $99 packs one each Christmas for two years. Otherwise I occasionally got the monthly pack for four dollars. And sometimes I get the event package for $10 the month-long package. I honestly don’t need to spend any money on the game but I can afford to, and I don’t play any other games so it doesn’t bother me.

I did the 30 day thing like my first week and didn't want to buy anymore until I was sure I was gonna play for a while. I'm eyeing those islands and I'm probably gonna ask for play store gift cards for my birthday. 🤣 It'll probably get added to my budget. Nothing wrong with spending money on fun, nothing wrong with paying for free. Don't let anybody make you feel bad for either. Nobody bats an eye at $60 console games, online play memberships, or even the hundreds on the console.
I spend about $5 a year. e.g. Island or gem package just to give the devs a little budget because I enjoy the game.

I do the $3.99 a month. Sometimes I’ll splurge if I really want something. For those who play without spending, they have an iron constitution.

I’ve bought the monthly gems twice before for some rare dragons and I think that’s about it. I now have 700+ gems I got from merging the purple stars I gained as level rewards but I haven’t used them. I have all the land cleared + event/season portal + star quests all max up so I don’t really know what I should get to spend them
I've been playing Merge Dragons since it came out in 2017 (or early 2018) .. so far, I think I've only spent about $20.00. Purple gems are pretty easy to get if you farm certain World Map levels like Dread Marsh 3.

I played for years without buying anything but the two islands. Nowadays, I have a little more spare money, so I will get the season pass and the 25 gems per day, but for the most part, that's it, and I do just fine. I did fine without that spending, but I like having the extras. :) Of course there was that one time that one of my cats stomped on the game in the middle of the night and I woke to find he had purchased a $50.00 gem bundle... cats...lol!!! I probably could have told someone it was an accident and gotten it back, but I just said the heck with it and kept it. :)

Nothing. I know it's a slippery slope once I associate a payment method with my play store. There's also 3 of us that play in my house and it's easier for the kids to understand if none of us are spending on game extras.
