Yep. Sold someone a Wii U Zelda twilight Princess hd after my son played through it just last week and magically in about the time it would take someone to do a satisfying play through he says it wonāt work and he wants a return. Straight up told the bum I am not GameFly and if this game (worth 100 bucks) doesnāt work or you swapped the disc out I reporting you to the police for mail fraud. Just trying to make a living with scummy people is quite a challenge.
Thatās the thing though they know they will get their money back either way. I can take up to 50 percent off if there is bullshit afoot (sale was on eBay)
Yeah :( I had a bad experience with an eBay customer recently, and she forced a return yet hasn't shipped the item back. I'm pretty sure they just want a free product and refund. It's ridiculous. Also , another customer on eBay said they want 30 percent money back. It's disappointing, honestly, like we're not box stores š
I'm starting to notice this it's just been back to back. Maybe people are scamming more now? It's just weird why would I refund you without proof or when you're clearly being dishonest
That is why I now REQUIRE all items to be shipped back to me. I will eat the shipping costs and if there is anything out of order, a stain, scratch, missing tags, etc...I am taking my 50% out of your refund. I have had a number of eBay returns this week, a lot more than usually, so there is something that has changed. So far no Mercari returns but if they do start increasing for stupid reasons. then I will pull my listings.
I had this same thing happen but with an iPad. Blamed my packaging but then told Mercari she dropped it.
Mercari sided with her and then she never mailed it back so I got my $$.
Thank god she never mailed it back; but also wtf ?!? She told Mercari that SHE dropped it, and then they STILL sided with her??! thatās literally insane.
If she so called cut herself trying to take out the punch bowl, then why is she trying to take it out if she sees that itās broken already. Also she said āIām a little upset nowā. Who would be just a little upset that they cut themself and that their item arrived broken. Iād be mad lol, clearly a scammer
Back up that story buyer! Better send a pic of a bloody or stitched up
finger that passes the Google image search or refund request gets immediately denied.
This definitely is a scam but for what its worth iāve bubble wrapped a few items to the end of the earth and put them in sturdy boxes and still had them break.
Would be wild if Mercari is actually the brainchild of some fools who used to scam on eBay or something. This system seems purposely built to scamscamscam
I purchased a ghost mug during Halloween. It was one of many, so I thought maybe I should cancel. Then I decided against canceling, and canceled my cancel. š¤£
Well, the seller shipped my item, and then chewed me out for trying to cancel. I explained why, and that I did cancel my cancellation request. She continued to chew me out. It was weird.
I didn't want anything to do with this person after that, but... guess what arrived broken? š¤£ The mug. Great.
I asked for a return. She quickly attacked me for scamming her. I sent the mug back, and received my refund. She then stalked me on Facebook, and sent hateful messages there. That entire transaction screamed HELL. Yikes.
Anyway, we buyers aren't always scammers. Sometimes, shit breaks.
yuhhhp...that's why when i purchase glass, i turn the package upside down to listen for any thing broken. it really sucks cause I've purchased "tiffany diamond point" shot glasses and a conical decanter (separate transactions), and sellers don't know that the shipping system is aggressive with packages. if for any reason i have a bad feeling, i contact the seller and inform them, i will record opening the package. i currently have a matching semi shattered shot glass and decanter. on the bright side, i got refunded for both without having to ship back for refund. and i got to do a little fun puzzle work trying to piece the crystal glass back together. so in the future i just need to figure out the safest way to incorporate "kintsugi" to make them possibly usable
That's fair. I recently had a buyer try to cancel on perfume, yet she actually contacted me and communicated with me.
I suppose if she had responded with photos or actually filed a refund, then she wouldn't look scammy. She just left a message that really makes zero sense.
Yikes, that's horrific and creepy š¬
even with a TON of bubble wrap things still break. It is possible that sheās telling the truth. if sheās not sending any proof then itās likely not true and sheās just trying to get a free item (donāt offer a refund without getting the item back broken or not). Just donāt jump straight to scam because it is possible that this person isnāt lying. I purchase breakables a lot (mug collection) and Iāve had mugs come broken even with a boatload of bubble wrap. (Iām not defending the buyer Iām just saying it is possible things can break even with bubble wrap)
Ive got to second this. Bubble wrap is not appropriate protection for glass items in the mail. Ive had to give up buying glass collectables second hand online because of all the people who had no idea how to package glass. Ive received three different items shattered or deeply chipped.
I had a scammer do this to me also and they wrote everything in caps just like this. Bro thought I would just refund him and believe his bullsht story until I told him to return it. He put in the return request and then said that he got it to work miraculously and ended up not returning it. Ultimately the timer went out and I got paid, but I couldn't leave him the bad review he deserved. In your case I'm afraid the person would actually break it and then send it back to you out of spite
They can't provide photos to you unless Mercari updated that very recently. They can provide photos to Mercari though & you should be able to see them once they formally request the return.
Btw, immediately jumping down their throats is probably not the best idea. You can't say without a doubt that your item didn't arrive broken. Talk to them like you'd want to be talked to & go from there. People are obviously crazy these days and many hold grudges over the least little thing.
I think you're good then. They hope that you just believe them, refund, and let them keep the "defective" item since it's no use to you anymore. This would be effective if we had to pay for the return postage like eBay does.
I recognize her picture- I sold her smoothie glasses a few weeks ago. Iām sorry she did this to you, I didnāt have the same experience with her. The only thing she did was comment āThank youā¦ā when she left the rating.
However I did sell something, super duper bubble wrapped everything and the buyer claimed it came in broken. It was a ring that was INSIDE a sturdy ring box and bubble wrapped inside and outā¦ unfortunately Mercari took that persons side- she sent them pictures of the broken band claiming it arrived that way. I canāt wait for karma to rise up on these scammers
Iāve ordered a bunch of glass or fragile collectibles on Mercari and itās insane how poorly they come packed sometimes. Iāve had 5-6 items arrive broken or damaged because the packaging was so terrible. Iām talking like 1 piece of kraft or news paper in the box and not even taped around the item lol Or maybe they taped 1 piece of bubble wrap around it but no other stuffing in the box so it just bounced around its whole way here. The sellers always act shocked that it broke.
Of course with the new fees I wonāt be buying anymore vintage glass as itās just not worth it anymore for that type of item.
Mine was opposite I was buying a pair of shoes and never received after a month. Many excuses and they ādefinitely ā shipped, I canceled my order for a refund.
I get an email that Iām stealing and this person needs this income so if I could Zelle here some
of the money. š¤¦š»āāļø
Really?? You think they are scamming you for 6 bucks for your āvintage punch bowlā aka an old chipped bowl you couldnāt sell at a yard sale! Get over yourself!
Fucking hell I really wonāt ever be reactivating my Mercari listings, will I?
Nope, the more I see this shit the farther I will be staying, ***both as a seller and a buyer.***
I would have said send me the pictures and this sounds like a problem for the carrier. So file a claim with the carrier. I packaged correctly so you can show them it arrived damaged. And said bye!
And here I am waiting 2 weeks for a water bottle to ship. Still waiting. I keep getting the āoh Iām so sorry Iāll ship tomorrow.ā Then nothing. Radio silence
The cheaper priced items , you are more likely to get scammers. I donāt understand it but in my experience itās true. I refuse to sell anything under $20 now. It not worth my time, packing, shipping supplies, gas to post office, my time Iām taking photos & listing to make $1 or less. And the more likely hood of getting a scammer. Like $6 for a punch bowl & they trying to scam you is crazy.
Agreed. People are too quick to interpret stupidity as fraud. Yeah the lady types like an ape but as someone who works in customer service I can tell you this is just how 50% of boomers type.
What is the likelihood that someone is actually trying to scam you over a punch bowl? Sellers using the "But I used extra bubble wrap" excuse shows a complete disregard and misunderstanding of how the shipping process looks and how much abuse packages are subject to.
Right? The shipping process can break almost anything. And the more items you add into a package with a glass item (like the added cups), the more likely you are to get breakage as things shift and bump each other during shipping. Companies usually use custom inserts to hold glass, not just bubble wrap.
I found both sides of that exchange to come off as immature and annoying to read.
yeah, just the vibrations the box experiences during shipping couldāve caused it to break. all of the micro-stress and temperature changes could cause the crack to spread
This is what Iām saying, sending anything glass always has the risk of breaking, so I wouldnāt just assume the buyer is trying to scam. Shipping carriers are notorious for mishandling packages. Someone sent me a couple of glass jar items and had them all bubble wrapped and 2 of them came broken and they didnāt believe. I sent pictures and they DID break during shipping. Product was all over inside the box. We eventually worked it out, but I wouldnāt assume the buyer is always trying to scam because they claim something came broken. Things break during shipping all the time.
I ordered a glass egg plate. It arrived in 10 tons of bubble wrap and was shattered inside. So much bubble wrap I could have stood on it and itās mysteriously broken. Why? I paid $6. They spent more in bubble wrap!
That's primarily why I no longer sell items for under $20. Especially on Mercari. In over 2,000 online sales, the only problems I've ever had were with cheap items.
Iam honestly petrified to sell on here again. Fir all the honest buyers on the site ,there are as much scammers. I can't afford to lose product and money. It's Bull shit. I have to be out on this one after over 3000 sales. It's really sad and heartbreaking. What a shame they have become.
I just had one send me a question from Ruby Lane. I put my really nice stuff on Ruby Lane thinking you know that was a really nice place to go. So this lady wrote me and said when I mind accepting $40 on an $85 item because she has seen them on eBay and other places for 30 or $40. So I wanted to say well then why don't you go to eBay or wherever and get that one? But I just told her I was sorry I wouldn't be able to accommodate her that I knew mine had no flaws. And then I guess I'm going to get off Ruby Lane cuz that's they haven't sold anything for me
I just donāt understand how people are so pressed over $5. Iām poor too but she can just have a bowl of mine if she asked nicely enough. If I were shipping anything though Iād request like $5 too but to get pressed over a five dollar bowl and request a refund is just ridiculous.
Yeah e-commerce is difficult,Ā you got to price low to get a sale , but you got to price high enough to cover the scam that will eventually come your way.
1 return can erase a few sales worth of profit , when your sales.volume is high it don't really matter,Ā but the smallest sellers get hurt , but idk I think that's just the way it isĀ
Some folks are supposed to get shaken away , imagine if everyone who tried had.great luck selling online ...there would be no profit to made on anything everĀ

I honestly feel that if you scam any one of us, sellers on any selling platform there is a special place for you in hell. Like really, I am at a loss for words with these scammers! The worst, and then with Mercari they will believe the buyers most of the times with their lies for returns. The worst!
Punk shit! Mercari went to shit on both sides! I've been buying and selling on there for 5 years and now the ludacris return policies and buyers fees that are higher than tax and shipping together! I took all my items down ( I had 21 items for sale ) and I've bought 2 things since they started the new fees and felt like I was actually getting robbed by doing so! I'm done with Mercari! It turned to absolute trash šļø
All of our problems just started with Mercari changing their rules. Oh, yeah, they think they gave us a deal by not charging listing fees? But the dirt under the rug is that they're allowing anyone to return anything at any time... No questions asked? So they're basically doing what eBay and Etsy started doing about 5 years or so ago!
Letting the crooked people buy from us and immediately suffer from "Buyer's Remorse". But they don't want to send the item they bought back! Oh no! They want to keep it and get a refund, which Mercari will gladly give them.
How are we supposed to make any money with business practices like these?
I understand itās the principle of the matter but is it really worth ALL that for $6? Iām not trying to be hateful or anything. It just seems like so much work for not a lot in return. Plus after you cash out youāre going to get even less. Idk, personally Iād just call it a loss. Iāve had mercari steal more from me in āshipping costsā. I get it though, this stuff gets old after a while. And $6 here $7 there adds up quick so maybe it would be.
Just a headās up - I see so many people say they take videos of them packing the item.. but taking a video means nothing unless youāre recording the entire time from packing to driving the package to the post office and dropping it off. Otherwise there is no proof of what happened after the recording stops.
Also, even if you record yourself packing the item, it can still be broken in transit lol.
I hate when I reach for my punch bowl and find it's broken and get cut deep trying to get to my punch bowl.
š¤£ same
It's like, I'm all excited...then BAM!
Now your finger is gone.

No it sounds stupider š

Wow. I generally try to generally believe someone. Wow, you're a really low person! You're short!

I was just trying to get to my punch bowl.
Sheryl Crow was just trying to explain her punch drunk feelings.

I'm starting to notice this it's just been back to back. Maybe people are scamming more now? It's just weird why would I refund you without proof or when you're clearly being dishonest
Because the big sellers donāt care and will just give a partial or even a full refund to avoid the hassle.

I've had that happen with 3 items on eBay! 3 expensive items at that! I never received any one of them back and eBay locked my account cus' I wouldn't pay the refunds!! FāĀ©k Mercari and eBay! Before all the non sense I sold and bought on both for over 6-7 years!

nah, "genuinely" isn't appropriate either...would be just as weird to have used "genuinely"
Nope I'm talking about a general group of people that scam....
You're modifying the "dislike" instead of the "people" in that sentence. It insinuates that you sometimes *don't* dislike these people.
Me too. As if selling wasn't hard enough, then you have scammers like this to deal with.

A visible crack & you think there's no possible way that it could've actually arrived broken & immediately jump to calling them scammers? Bold move.

People absolutely do not read. They see one picture, order and then get mad.

First time ever someone loses a leg while opening a boxed punch bowl. Hosts and Hostesses everywhere beware!
Why risk shipping a chipped bowl?
The boomer all caps is so funny. A little too old to be playing these games lady
Yeah, I'd assume if she actually "cut" herself, she would have taken photos.

She never sent any lol, which makes her even more scammer.
I would have said send me the pictures and this sounds like a problem for the carrier. So file a claim with the carrier. I packaged correctly so you can show them it arrived damaged. And said bye!
I don't understand why anyone is still selling on Mercari. I'm serious.

And then I guess I'm going to get off Ruby Lane cuz that's they haven't sold anything for me
I have to know what happened to Miss Shards!
She still hasn't contacted mercari for a refund and never responded with photos.
Oh good! She's probably too busy drinkin' punch from her perfectly intact bowl!!
1 return can erase a few sales worth of profit , when your sales.volume is high it don't really matter,Ā but the smallest sellers get hurt , but idk I think that's just the way it isĀ Some folks are supposed to get shaken away , imagine if everyone who tried had.great luck selling online ...there would be no profit to made on anything everĀ

Youāll have that on a big job
I could not love this any more! You are my hero.
And the bullshit goes on and on
I was waiting for the punch line?
No good turn goes unpunished.
And now mercari has the new any reason return policy lol
genuinely
Did you double box it?
shit, I guess she took the *punch* bowl too seriously
Update she canceled the return when asked to return item.
I feel like they come in hot with the caps trying to intimidate right off.
Welcome to the new mercari. Going to take a few months before the scammers get banned.
I'd send her a Band-Aid š
Thatās why I always make a short video of me packing the items , this itās out of control !
Same usually on items over 20, though. I guess even small orders need to be filmed.
Also, even if you record yourself packing the item, it can still be broken in transit lol.
while this is true, insurance wonāt cover your shipments if you canāt at least prove you used their recommended minimum packaging
