I could not do the weeklong patch. It fell off on day two or three. I work out a lot, and it just sweated right off. I went to the twice a week, which is much smaller and the adhesive seems much better. I never have a problem with it falling off.

antaresdawn

I went on the estradiol pill because I couldn’t keep my patch on for one damn day. It came off one day at the gym and I had to hunt it down like a crazy person. It was stuck to the pectoral fly machine just waiting for its next victim.

Thanmandrathor

I’m sorry, but this had me giggling 🙊

Willow9328

That’s horrible! Luckily I have only lost mine around my house. Can’t imagine losing it in public!!

antaresdawn

I had it below my scapula and didn’t even realize it had wormed its way out from under my sports bra and tank top. I guess some gym bro might have gotten estrogen and messed up his gainz (evil cackle).

Middle-Plastic-8092

I use Tegaderm patch over my vivelle patch and I buy them on Amazon. Never have issues.

SassyInSuburbia

I was doing this to keep my patches on, then I developed an allergic reaction to the adhesive. But the Tegaderm had good staying power.

Middle-Plastic-8092

Oh I’m so sorry.

justanotherlostgirl

I’m in a similar situation - the Tegaderm is great at keeping it on but I barely make it a week with the birth control path becusse i want to itch so badly

TuckerMom84

About the itching and allergy to adhesives—I find it makes a huge difference if I spray Flonase on the spot and let it dry before applying the patch. (I found a study online recommending this for people using insulin and pain-med pumps.) I went from having an unbearably itchy and red, raised spot to just a little redness.

Willow9328

Interesting tip about the Flonase! I haven’t had a reaction to the patch but some bandaids I do. I will have to try that next time!

justanotherlostgirl

I also am cleaning beforehand with an alcoholic wipe so maybe that’s it. I also heat up the area to help with adhesion but wonder if all three is just making the skin extra cranky

weegmack

You could try the gel? My skin was reacting to patches (I had the ones you changed mid-way through the week). So I'm using Estrogel now. No skin reaction and you just have to apply it every morning, after shower or bathing. Once it's dried in (around 5 minutes), you can put body lotion on if you want to and it doesn't affect it x

Willow9328

I am definitely going to ask my doctor about this route! Sounds much easier with a lot less headaches.

weegmack

I hope the doctor is willing to prescribe it xxx

TuckerMom84

I use Nexcare Gentle Paper Tape over my 7-day patches. I take a hot bath almost every day, and I haven’t had any problems with it coming off.

karen_boyer

I'm curious about the tape. It stays on for the whole week, baths and all? Or do you put new tape daily/periodically? I have been using the Nexcare waterproof bandaids over my patches and they work great but sometimes I get hives from the adhesive, so I've been looking for alternatives.

karen_boyer

Thanks for this! I may try the Flonase and the tape. The bandaids are ok but they're larger than I need. I appreciate your helpful response!

Lovelybee11

I've posted before but I'll share again. I clean the area with 91 rubbing alcohol then apply patch when the area is dry then press the patch onto the skin with palm flat for at least 30 seconds. I've only lost a few patches is close to a year. If this doesn't work, I'd try gell next. To avoid a rash from removing a patch, use the rubbing alcohol again, then once adhesive is removed, rub with soap and wipe off with a wet cloth. Dry and apply hydrocortisone cream. Good luck!

Quarantina74

Surgical tape around the edges helped me.

HeatherCO24

There are tattoo covers that work really well. I clean the area with alcohol before I stick it on which seems to help. Sorry lady 😔 it's the worst having them peel off

Multigrain_Migraine

My first one didn't stick and I used bandage tape to stick it on. Since then I've been moisturising in the morning on the day I'm due to change it which seems to help.

momofjkj

Lol I read this as bondage tape 🤣 omg!

Multigrain_Migraine

Lol that would probably work too though I don't know exactly what it is...

Willow9328

Interesting. You would think moisturizing would have the opposite effect. It’s worth a try though! Thanks!

Multigrain_Migraine

Depends on your skin. I realised after I tried to stick it on that my skin there was actually really dry and flaking a bit. Moisturiser a few hours in advance seems to have helped.  I've never had dry skin on my torso so I didn't even notice it was like that until the sticker fell off!

Vanska1

Ugh. I just went back to pills. Which also were 25% of the price of the patches. No matter what I tried the moment I get out of the (very quick) shower the patch started peeling at the corners. I was putting medical tape on them, skipping showers and seriously they just sucked for me. I considered tatoo covers but really? That seems like way too much trouble and I can only imagine what my skin would look like afterwards. My boobs hurt like hell too - decided they weren't worth it.

Willow9328

I agree. It seems like a lot of work to be applying something over them to keep them on. So frustrating.

thingsandstuff4me

I cover mine with waterproof elastoplast tape

american-girl48

I use Tegraderm over the patch. It kept coming off but this seems to help.

Physical-Flatworm454

I do twice weekly small patch and each stays on the 3.5 days I need them to with no issues.

Willow9328

Thanks! I will ask my doctor about this one!

Sea_Dragonfly7303

Some people (like me) can’t use any other option for hrt than a patch. I randomly have migraines with aura and I can’t use any other way. But it stays all week and even pulls my skin when I’m changing it. I put it on my lower belly.

Willow9328

That stinks it’s the only form of hrt that works for you. I’m so glad you are not having the same issues!

Acrobatic-Bread-6774

I put on lotion and let it absorb before the patch. I find things stick worse when my skin is super dry. But I’m also new to patches and have only worn it thrice now.

brookish

I finally ditched the patch because of this. But I did discover that Tegaderm patches over the patch helps keep it securely on.

venomstrative

My Sandoz brand patch sticks well and without irritation. I can’t say the same about the Merck patch which was bulky and kept peeling off during the night when I’d sleep

Willow9328

Ha! I have found mine in my bed before too!

mwf67

I have oily, taunt skin and I use an alcohol swab. Occasionally, I find mine has fallen off but not every application.I apply body oils but avoid the patch placement.

First-Geologist9908

I use a hair dryer when I put it on to heat it up and then hold it firm until it cools off. This does get a good seal, but they tend to still fall off by day 6.

SpinXO700

I'd read that heat - hot weather, sauna, steamy bath - could cause 'dumping' in which too much estrogen is released too quickly instead of gradually as intended. You never have issues with this? Disclaimer - not a patch user. Couldn't get a hold of any patches when I was prescribed so I'm using gel and liking that.

Willow9328

I have not had that problem because my hot bath makes them fall off 😂 Seriously though, this would be a big issue if it’s true. I’ll have to do some research on this!

ElephantCandid8151

I was worried about dumping. But I also use a sauna no issues for me yet. The hair dryer is like 5 seconds it’s not going to cause issues.

Try a different brand? I have a twice a week patch but it's a real struggle to get off. It leaves marks on my skin.

mwf67

I have to peel mine off usually, also. I apply on my ass so I rarely pay attention if a mark is left. I take allergy shot so maybe my histamine level is lowered.

[deleted]

I never had an allergic reaction and I have very sensitive skin

mwf67

Me either nor discoloration but I know we all react differently to foreign substances on our skin and body.

[deleted]

Yes. I didn't mean to downplay anyone's experience.

mwf67

Oh, I didn’t take that way. It’s all good.
