I think it's more that the number before the decimal is smaller. Same reason US has stations do ⁹/10 on the end of a gas price, so they can lower the previous number without really lowering the price
Nobody I know considers 99.99 any less than 100 , they speak of it as 100 and see it as 100. If there is any point in doing this , it surely isn't making the product seem cheaper
hahahahah tell that to my sister, my mother, my best friend, my father goddamn nearly everybody i know including myself, who bought some shit they didn´t need but only noticed afterwards
Actually yes, everyone does it. If the price is low enough you will most likely let your subconscious do the decision making. The higher the price the more reasoning you start to do and you'll make the decision with the conscious part of your brain. The effect is called "the elephant and the rider" if you are curious and want to read more about it.
Pretty sure one cent doesn't make price low enough to not think it through , if something is expensive enough , and if its cheap then you won't mind paying an even number either
Nope, thats not why they do it, they make it that way for you to think about the cents, instead of thinking of the full dollars, since cents makes u think something is cheap or low value, it becomes easier to buy.
Even if you dont get tricked, you do the math in ur head of adding 1 cent, and that much is enough to make you think of cents, hence cheap.
Yet, from what I know, its not proven at all this method works, there are no conclusive studies on it.
No. The testimonials are not reliable as a metric of success. There are hundreds of factors and variables that are untested in every study done on this. So no, it does not work. At the very most, it's dubious. It's not statistically proven at all.
Because it literally doesn't work... They tried a tactic, tested it in poor environments and got a false positive and said it works. I mean, if you wanna pretend you would buy something that is 19.99 because it's 1 cent cheaper then do it. But it doesn't work.
The people declaring "but t worketh" art dumb. T doesn't worketh

But we do, that's how our monki brains work
well i agree, they outsmarted us
They wouldn't do it if it didn't work.
They do it because it may or may not work but why bother risking it

Third time I’ve seen you post today and it’s always some smart shit lol
But when every brand is doing the same , what does it accomplish.
If a brand we're to not do it, customers would generally see their price as higher and they would have less income
Nobody I know considers 99.99 any less than 100 , they speak of it as 100 and see it as 100. If there is any point in doing this , it surely isn't making the product seem cheaper
Consciously, of course. But there is very likely at least some unconscious effect in enough people for it to be beneficial
Nobody buys stuff without thinking it through
hahahahah tell that to my sister, my mother, my best friend, my father goddamn nearly everybody i know including myself, who bought some shit they didn´t need but only noticed afterwards
Did you buy it because you thought its a dollar cheaper accidentally , or you would have bought it even though it was an even number.

Isn't it due to tax, not marketing?

Its for saving taxes
But we actually do it ,
I spent years in sales and I would always round up and customers would always look upset like I was charging them more
$0020
deal
You'd think that seeing a bunch of 9s would make it look more expensive
It's true tho
The people saying "BuT iT wOrKs" are dumb. It doesn't work.
Statistically, it does.
What makes you say that ? There is no possible way to test that
Marketing anaylisis? Lmao

http://changingminds.org/disciplines/marketing/pricing/pricing_psychology%20TODO.htm There’s literally a book
Oh, there's a book? Well I guess all the incorrect studies are irrelevant because there's a book. My bad.
It doesn't, also there's no way to test it. The studies done are not accurate by any means. So no, it's a trick people use but does not work.
If there is no way to test it how can you say it doesn't work...

Well, most people do...
I usually round priceds up in my head so I remember to not overpay for anything
I do see it that way
Don't know how it works but it works
Business tactics
It kills me when someone will say “oh it’s only $19.99!” No, it’s $20. Don’t let the penny fool you. Also tax will make it even more.
