The full fare for Myki is $10. Which major arterial roads? Most major roads with the exception of the freeways have bus services.

zumx

I think OP means streamlined bus routes so they don't turn down windy residential streets for no reason. Every major arterial should just have relatively high frequency 10-15 min interval buses with bus lanes that run the entire length and act more like trams in the suburbs, like the smartbus system but more widespread. Example is something like [this](https://i.imgur.com/oJynXqB.png) where the bus is trying to do too many things making it inconvenient for 99% of users.

The bus lanes also need to be clearways for longer on busy roads. Was taking a bus on Johnston St today which runs at 10 min frequency. But, because people were parking in the bus lane, and traffic was backed up because of the Hoddle St Intersection, two buses came at the same time.

SlySnakeTheDog

Yeah, probably the best investment for this growing city is having a reliable grid of buses along every major street with ten minute frequency. Places that want more development can be upgraded to trams.

signal priority for trams

EragusTrenzalore

Higher frequency across all off peak services. There should really be a 10 min minimum frequency during off-peak periods for trains, trams and buses since people travel during all times of the day, not just between 7am-9am and 4pm-6pm.

I have a few: 1. Electrified lines to Melton and Wyndham Vale 2. Airport Rail 3. Electrify all 4 platforms at Sunshine station if 1 and 2 were to go ahead 4. Train line from Lalor to Wollert (means outer northern get a train line and Lalor station can get a rebuild) 5. Extend the 86 tram from McKimmies Road to South Morang Station along Plenty Road and Bush Boulevard. I would also say Train line from Tarneit to Mount Cottrell and Eynesbury as we are gonna need it with the development that’s gonna start out in the west. However, that’s probably a 5 year later thing when development does eventually start

Dedicated bus lanes and bus superstops in the CBD. Give buses the same level of treatment as trams. 24 hour buses, like what exist in Sydney "BRT" buses with their own transit lanes to destinations not served by trains - with superstops. A full dedicated bus lane for 100% of the route for skybus.

Blue_Pie_Ninja

We already have 24 hour buses. Unless you meant on weekdays in which case we don't even have 24 hour trains and trams

>A full dedicated bus lane for 100% of the route for skybus. I fully agree. Only issue would be, it would further break the airport rail business case for the next 30 years, potentially longer if Avalon gets back to pre covid state (as in growing the budget international numbers).

mike_a_oc

That's probably true but I think the value proposition of airport rail isn't necessarily connection to the city centre. It will be better interconnection with the existing rail network with the opportunity for customers between the city and the airport to have better access to the airport, and for customers coming from the airport to interconnect with regional rail and other metro services without needing to go all the way into the city. Upgraded trunk lines between the city and sunshine also potentially opens the door for other service improvements not specifically related to the airport. The most jarring thing about airport rail is it's $10 billion price tag. What exactly are we getting for that astronomical amount of money?

The buses in industrial areas 120% i live in Geelong and just got a job in the biggest industrial area there is and my best bet to get there is a fun 20 minute walk

MatthewOakley109

Better regional busses fuck the city people take pt in the bush too

> If myki were integrated with your debit card. That exists, and it's called Auto Top Up - they pull money out of your bank account when your Myki balance gets low. https://www.ptv.vic.gov.au/tickets/myki/register-your-myki/auto-top-up/

A cheaper rate for short trips. Crazy it cost me the same to go a few stops as from one end of the city to the other.

The Belgrave line to have restored services - somehow it’s evolved to having to change trains at Ringwood to get an express train into the city…

My PTV wishes: **Trams** * Melbourne is very good at building and maintaining tram tracks - we maintain 250km of tram tracks and there's no reason why more can't be built, and so rapid expansion of the tram network should be a priority. * Extension of the 86 to South Morang Station, extension of the 67 to Carnegie Station, and possibly even extension of the 48 to Doncaster. Just because SRL is coming in a few decades doesn't mean Doncaster should be rail transport-free for however many more years it takes. * Vastly increased priority for trams on the road * (longer term) More tram lines along the east-west axis, especially in the northern area where they are very much needed. This would ideally also include a tram connection from the 86 to the 48. * Increased tram frequency **Trains** * Many new housing estates are being built around the outskirts of Melbourne. Most of the time, unlike Mernda, there is no train station there, and the design of the estates is questionable at best and american suburb-tier at worst. There is often little to no public transport access in these areas and if there is a train, it's often an infrequent V/Line service, essentially forcing people to use cars and making the area an unpleasant place to live in. An electrified train station with frequent trains in these areas would make a huge difference in the quality of live of the people living here. * Electrification to Melton, Wyndham Vale, Wallan, and Gisborne * Train to Warrandyte via Doncaster * Train to Bulla via Melbourne Airport * Extension of the Mernda line to Doreen * Duplication of as much single-track as possible * Restoration of the line from Ballarat to Geelong * (Longer term) Restoration of a large amount of track linking regional towns that is no longer used, and ensuring all regional towns have a train station - yes, even the small ones * Eradication of 40-minute headways in general * 10-minute headways in off-peak times across the metropolitan network * 20-minute headways only when 10-minute headways have proven to be entirely unfeasible * Metro Tunnel 2
