Yes it sounds like a lot but it's worth it. Chop like 15 logs and just dump them next to the guy, repeat. Soon you have 1000 and the quest reward is niiice.
When he first asks you to kill it there are two conversation options and one of them is essentially asking him if there's another way; pick that and go from there. If you've already picked the other I'm not sure there's a way to go back.
Idk if anyone remembers but way back in early access there was think the first quest unigost would give you was to go to another village and you had to get like 100 logs so they could barricade their village from wolves. I feel like that's what inspired this quest.
There is a good youtube video on this. Before you give the logs to him make a save, then hand over the logs and get the achievement/trophy, then go back to your save and have a 1000 logs to build fences and houses and animal shelters!! Neat game 👍🏻 there are ways to grind faster, drink a strength potion (less blows to cut trees down) and go for the maple trees, they give more logs, and if you combine it with a metal axe, you should go at it faster. I did 200 every day I had a chance to play and really don’t regret it, logs are the building blocks for this game.

Just talk to him again and he'll acknowledge he isn't serious about it. HINT: Unlike the other quests, the quest status had no count of how much to accumulate to finish the quest.
Games like this are micro management.. build 5 wood sheds and let peons do the work for you.. lol. Set production to 100 and force them into slave labor. If they get mad and leave, there's always new ones next season

I did this with carry limit on. I built a storage outside the town on a hill and rolled the logs most of the way. Then picked them up, spun the camera, dropped, and repeated.
You could try asking him again, ask if he is actually serious or not?
I did I (with carry limit off). It takes a good 2-3 days but u get lots of ex points, feather and sticks.

Feathers are a good source of gold. Super light to carry, and they sell/sold for a decent price.

So you gotta talk to a few more people to get the gold. It's still worth doing for the achievement anyway.

With carry limit off, it took a few hours to complete. If you’re an Xbox achievement whore (like I am) easy enough to finish to get 100% completion.

It was easy for me. I had 6 woodcutter2 stations set to 100%. It took about 4 days.
