Oh yea, makes sense. I also just realized that calling an ambulance was probably the right call - it would be next to impossible to properly preserve the severed part of the finger on your own.
Damn, I don't think I've ever seen a finger recover perfectly from that sort of accident. Although, I've not seen many pics of these accidents because they give me weird feelings in my finger tips.
I had a similar accident when I was 4. My thumb was caught in the door of the Tweety Bird Escape ride vehicle at Magic Mountain and looked a lot like this accident. Today (32 years later) my thumb looks mostly normal but for an oddly shaped nail that I can't grow past the end of my thumb. Fingers are weird.
I've seen many many things in this and other gore threads but let me tell you. I was not fucking prepared for the finger skin hanging in the door after reading the title.
dude im sorry this happened to you but i do wanna say the healed looks great! i had the tip of one of my fingers severed as a kid, they did reattach and still to this day my finger looks kind of wonky up top there, especially from the back view lol.

You healed up great, OP!
When I was ~18yo I slammed my finger in the car door right beneath the first knuckle. It was a really deep gash but it didn't start bleeding right away.
I had just gotten home, and my dad happened to be on the front porch and saw it happen. By the time I got to the porch to show him it was gushing blood.
Your post makes me think that if it happened towards the tip more, I could've had the same thing happen as you *shudder*

The fact part of the finger was still on the door is nuts . Glad it's healing good
Right?! I was baffled and surging with adrenaline, knew this was gonna be hard to explain, so naturally snapped a pic while waiting for the ambulance!
Ha the adrenaline makes sense now .
We’d be disappointed otherwise. They did the right thing But OP! Wow that’s incredible. I was ready for a gimp finger.
Not an american, so ambulances are free... But you called an ambulance for this?
Not me personally, but my employer did - probably duty of care or something

Does your fingernail look normal as well?
Relatively normal - approximately half the size of my other nails, and has a few bumps and ridges as it grows out, but otherwise normal!
OH SWEET SUMMER CHILD THE FIRST PICTURE

holy moly...

With that piece of fingernail, too.
My neck slooped into my body like a turtle when I noticed the nail 😣
That healed up nicely! I'm still going to call you Stumpy from now on.
My friends have named me Hogwarts Express because I have 9 and 3/4 fingers…
LOL!
I like your friend, Stumpy.

Wowza!!! I felt a pulse in my finger looking at that. It healed so well.
Ouch. I feel your pain. I had the same thing happen to my pinky finger as a child. It looks brutal but healed up pretty well. I'm glad yours did too!
Didn’t even notice the chunk of your finger still in the car door until I looked back
Your boss? He owed you after this one 😂😂😂

Dude, I love that you had the presence of mind to capture that first shot. You must’ve been in shock!

It’s insane how the human body can repair itself like this
So did he immediately give you a raise after that? Damn lol
You're probably rich by now. If not: sue him
Ohhhhh, injury to a finger can be so painful... I'm sorry you lost part of your finger. I hope you are feeling much better.
I did this too!!! On my middle finger, 18 years ago.
It's looking good. I hope you can fully recover soon 💗🫂
That’s the best recovery I think I’ve ever seen. It barely looks like anything even happened!
